Well, there’s another GOP moron; what a surprise! So in Sen. Tillis’ opinion, Trump can diss on - or dismiss - actual military casualties/veterans/their survivors: but as long as he makes a BFD over NFL players and “the Flag”, that’s “showing more respect for the troops than Obama did”???

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in some time. [Adam Kokesh]

I noted to my wife the ex-Libertarian that he is “not of your generation of Libertarians,” which got me a smack (for implying she’s old).

According to Wikipedia [citation needed], Mr. Kokesh plans to run on the Libertarian Party ticket for President on a campaign platform of “the orderly dissolution of the US government.”

I seriously doubt if the US government was dissolved, anything resembling “order” would come out of that (at least until you get the end result of any libertarian utopia, a dictatorship).

Conservatives have been indoctrinated in their hateful death cult all my life. Accelerating from Richard Nixon’s idea with Roger Ailes and a “GOP TV” to Ronald Reagan’s abandonment of the Fairness Doctrine.

All that lead to the rise of Christian hate radio, right wing hate cultists, and FOX News.

The Pro-Life(r) Party is at it again:

This is the damn truth but you’re still not gonna believe it.

A Republican candidate for governor in Georgia is giving away a “bump stock,” the rapid-fire gun modification linked to the Las Vegas shooting, in a campaign contest to highlight his opposition to new regulation on the devices.

State Sen. Michael Williams, who is positioning himself as the most pro-Donald Trump candidate in a crowded GOP field to succeed term-limited Gov. Nathan Deal, said the contest is a celebration of the Second Amendment.

Okay, okay, we can’t take about common sense gun control because it’s “too soon.” But, we can have a raffle to celebrate an instrument of mass destruction.

And the Republican Party is still claiming that they are sane, responsible and productive citizens.

If you want to let him know how classy you thin he is, here’s his email address: michael.williams@senate.ga.gov

Well, besides being reasonable activities for a night out in Atlantic City, officials who help prepare specific sports for Olympic recognition apparently think they could soon take their place alongside running, gymnastics and ski jumping in the world’s most prestigious athletic competition.

Herb Silverman of the Secular Coalition for America (disclaimer, I was on the state organising board for this state, and I was kicked out of the Boy Scouts for being an atheist, so I am biased), on the issue of the Boy Scouts allowing girls to enter the organisation and earn its highest rank:

There is a requirement that scouts and leaders must agree with a principle that says, “The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God.” Many open atheists have been refused membership or been kicked out of the Boy Scouts when they stopped believing in any deities. Apparently, the BSA does not consider honesty a core value and would rather youngsters pretend to believe. This certainly would teach them a lesson on how best to prepare for political careers, because open atheists currently have little chance of being elected. On the other hand, the military allows atheists to serve openly and honorably. However, even atheists with an honorable military discharge are not deemed fit to serve as Boy Scout leaders.

In a story published online Oct. 12 by the New York Times, critics accuse Prator of racism for remarks during the press conference in which he described prisoners in state prisons as “bad” and state prisoners housed in parish jails as “good.”

“In addition to the bad ones — and I call these bad — in addition to them, they’re releasing some good ones that we use every day to wash cars, to change oil in our cars, to cook in the kitchen, to do all that, where we save money,” Prator said, according to the New York Times. “Well, they’re going to let them out.”

I have never in my 46 years on this rock ever heard of anyone ever singing the national anthem before going to work. Which makes the anthem at sporting events even dumber.

Neither have I. We did the pledge in grade school. The national anthem before work in a coal mine sounds I dunno something outta the USSR.

Hey Donnie Two-Scoops, you do it like this:

Executive Mansion,
Washington, 21st November, 1864.

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln.

Rote and shallow is a plus because they often need justifications that people are (suddenly) “not one of us.”

As such, dissent or divergence of thought can be dealt with by ritual expulsion—you failed to do X, you aren’t Of The Body. That way you don’t have to discuss why dissent arose at all.

Case in point…the way that our host hasn’t just been cast off, but that’s there a shared just so story, complete with repeated phrases and stock jokes, that get wheeled out to thought-stop discussion of why he did what he did.

Edited because I forgot an important noun.

Bomb Kills Panama Papers Reporter, Malta’s Prime Minister Says

VALLETTA, Malta — A Maltese investigative journalist who had exposed her island nation’s links with the so-called Panama Papers document leak was killed Monday when a bomb destroyed her car as she was driving near her home, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.

Daphne Caruana Galizia, 53, had just driven away from her home in Mosta, near the capital, Valletta, when the bomb exploded, sending wreckage spiraling over a wall and into a field.

That report came up yesterday.

A whole lot of wealthy people and powerful corporations were exposed in the Panama Papers hack (the hacker claimed he simply waltzed right in to an unsecured server to get the information). I wouldn’t necessarily pin it on a Russian: about 200 countries’ wealthy and powerful were exposed, including ten presidents and prime ministers from other nations, hundreds of government officials around the world, &c.

Russian independent media network Dozhd talked to “Max,” who worked at the IRA in 2014 and 2015, and he shared some interesting scoops! “Max” is not his real name, because you know how Russia is about people who tell secrets about their awful government. (It is very murder-y.)

It turns out even in early 2015, the Russians had their knives out for Hillary Clinton, probably because they knew she would run for president, and because Vladimir Putin is still sorely offended she called bullshit on Russia’s fake bullshit elections when she was secretary of State.

According to Max, the IRA’s “foreign desk” had open orders to “influence opinions” and change the direction of online discussions. He says this department within the agency considered itself above the “Russian desk,” which he claims is generally “bots and trolls.” The foreign desk was supposedly more sophisticated. “It’s not just writing ‘Obama is a monkey’ and ‘Putin is great.’ They’ll even fine you for that kind of [primitive] stuff,” Max told Dozhd. People in his department, he says, were even trained and educated to know the nuances of American social polemics on tax issues, LGBT rights, the gun debate, and more.

Everyone advising Trump has gotten this wrong. None of them know how to deal with Gold Star families. No one knows how to script it so that Trump stays on message without sounding like a total jackass.

And that’s for good reason. Trump is a total jackass and this is who he has always been. It’s impossible for Trump to show compassion or empathy because he’s always lacked both traits.

His supporters don’t care or think this situation is just fine. That’s even as he attacks soldiers’ families and the GOP still claim to be party of law and order and supports the troops where Democrats don’t. That malicious lie has been circulating for years, and it’s been weaponized to the point where Trump can literally fuck over a despondent family member, promise a family $25,000 in funds, and then not follow through on any of it.

All Trump does is lie.

Well…….apparently the father made a comment to the yam that the benefits were going to his ex-wife

In his call with Trump, Baldridge, a construction worker, expressed frustration with the military’s survivor benefits program. Because his ex-wife was listed as their son’s beneficiary, she was expected to receive the Pentagon’s $100,000 death gratuity — even though “I can barely rub two nickels together,” he told Trump.

The president’s response shocked him.

“He said, ‘I’m going to write you a check out of my personal account for $25,000,’ and I was just floored,” Baldridge said.

In other words, Trump sympathized with a man who was getting screwed by his ex-wife, then was such a fucking cheap-skate that he couldn’t even afford to write a $25K from his vast riches to keep a promise.

Has Kelly come out publicly and personally said he found Trump’s statements to Johnson’s widow to be respectful or are we just supposed to take Huckabee-Sadists’ word on the matter? And even if we assume it’s true why the fuck should anybody take Kelly’s assessment of the President his job is to defend over the family who says Trump disrespected them?

Kelly has not said anything directly.

We can only assume that Christian Liar and Hate Radio Candidate Huckabee-Sanders made it up.

If John Kelly had any honour left, after Trump exploited his own son’s death to promote a political lie, then watches Trump trash another Gold Star Family, he would resign and cite Trump’s contempt for the grieving.

Kelly knew Trump did this sort of thing going in (with the Khan family and John McCain’s captivity). He threw his honour away the second he accepted Trump’s offer to be the shortest-term DHS director in history (now Chief-of-Staff).

He won’t say anything. For a general, he is an amazing study in cowardice.

So in 24 hours, we’ve learned that Trump thinks telling a pregnant widow that her husband’s knew he was being sent to his death is compassionate, and that he emphasizes with a father who is angry that his dead son’s survivor’s benefits will go to his ex-wife rather than to him.

By this point, I don’t believe it’s cowardice anymore. I don’t believe Kelly is keeping his mouth shut because he’s afraid of Trump or of the consequences of leaving the job. I honestly believe that he’s a perfect fit for this White House, another power-hungry asshole who is willing to suffer anything if it gets him higher up the food chain. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been taken aside and assured that all this is temporary, that Trump will eventually be gone and Kelly will be serving under a Pres. Pence for years to come.

“Of course, miss, first you’d need to meet Christ Jesus and begin to live the way he teaches people to live? Would you like to hear the Good News? Would you like to live like him for whom whatever you do good for the least of them is done to him? Or perhaps live like his brother James who teaches that if you don’t feed, cloth & house the poor you don’t really have faith and that if you show preference for the rich over the poor you don’t have faith? Are you ready to really love your neighbor as yourself while understanding that everyone embodies Christ Jesus and that as a result everyone is your neighbor? Perhaps then we can both turn around (the real meaning of repentance) and walk towards the good & the light together?”

Feh. Who am I kidding, it’s not like any of these actually want to hear what Jesus actually taught, they only want the heresy of the pulpit pimp and the prosperity gospel.

Tomi Lahren’s comments remind me of Mike Ditka who said recently that there’s been no oppression in America in the last 100 years. Lahren, Ditka, and others like them are not POC, LGBTQ, or veterans who’ve been having to deal with mental, emotional, and physical issues, Muslims and Jews who are hated simply because they’re Muslim and Jewish, and they’ve probably never been stopped by a police officer who viewed them as being “guilty of something” at first sight. I think their problem is that they’ve been insulated from what some of the rest of us have been/are experiencing and having to deal with, but it doesn’t stop them from sharing their out-of-touch-with-reality opinions with us, and it doesn’t stop Fox News from providing a platform for them to do it.

Trump attacked the Khans for criticizing his anti-Muslim rhetoric, the wingnuts responded by accusing the Khans of being “paid actors.”

Trump insulted John McCain by declaring he preferred war heroes “who didn’t get captured,” the wingnuts responded by attacking McCain for his negative comments about Trump.

Trump used the wife of a dead Navy SEAL as a prop for his first SOTU address, wingnuts were orgasmic over the length of the applause.

Trump spent weeks avoiding mention of the deaths of 4 US soldiers on his watch, wingnuts act as though it’s no big deal.

Trump disgusts the family of one of those dead soldiers with a tone-deaf phone call, wingnuts buy into the accusations that the witnesses are liars and express “outrage” that liberals are drawing attention to the shoddy treatment of Gold Star Families.

But these fuckers have the nerve to claim that their “outrage” over NFL players kneeling is a lack of “respect” for our soldiers.

Kelly is screwed: He has now been there too long to have any other major political job, because Trump is not exactly a good reference. So how can he soften the landing? Hmmm … Y’know, Kelly, it’s time to cut bait. In a way that will have optimal consequences, as in take the bastard down and probably others with him. Your career would be over, but you’d be a hero.
