Video: Sen. Bob Corker’s Scathing Comments on Trump: “He Debases Our Country”

Politics • Views: 34,227

YouTube

Sen. Bob Corker, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, went on ABC’s Good Morning America today and doubled down on his recent scathing comments about our awful Narcissist in Chief. Corker is a Republican who supported Trump, but he increasingly sounds like someone who’s almost ready to openly advocate impeachment.

CNN followed this up with another interview in which Corker makes it extremely clear that he considers Trump to be a pathological liar who “debases our country.”

YouTube

When asked, “Is the president a liar?” Corker responds, “The president has great difficulty with the truth.” Pretty sure that’s a “yes.”

Corker says Trump is not a role model for young people, and when his administration is over, “the debasement of our nation is what he’ll be remembered for.”

Watch this CNN interview, because Corker emphasizes that he’s not just talking off the cuff; he’s thought about these issues extensively and would never support Trump again. This guy is done with Trump. We need more Republicans to get to this point, because every day Trump remains in office he does more damage.

From last thread:

azcentral.com

So basically Flake is admitting that he’s not enough of a mindless leader-cultist wingnut to make it through a Republican primary in Arizona? Mainly because:

Among Republican primary voters, there’s overwhelming support for Trump’s positions and “behavior,” Flake said, and one of their top concerns is whether a candidate is with the president or against him.

So: one has to wonder just how big a segment of the AZ electorate those “Republican primary voters” comprise. Enough to elect a Senator?

Also: I wonder if the Arizona voters won’t be having TWO Senatorial elections to contest? Depending on whether or not Sen. McCain is still around: IIRC, any interim appointment would have to be up at the next general election: i.e. Nov. ‘18

Wel,l considering that we have the absolutely wretched and grotesque Kelli Ward here in Arizona, this is not hard to imagine. Remember, Ward is the woman who told John McCain to resign when he revealed he had brain cancer so that Governor Doofus, oops, Ducey could appoint her to his seat.

At least I don’t have to re-register as a Republican. I was actually considering doing that because even though I don’t agree with Flake on a lot of things, he did push opening Cuba and for that he gets an attaboy. Also he went to a mosque and talked to them after Friday prayer last year and in a time when most Republicans were staying away. I don’t blame him for not wanting to go through this crap.

This isn’t an alliance. So far neither of them has taken a single meaningful action to oppose Trump. They both voted to repeal the ACA and for his medicare & medicaid gutting budget. So far all they’ve offered is some milquetoast platitudes, it’s just a bunch of toothless yammering. Call me when they grow actual spines instead of just play acting at having personal integrity.

Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski have done more to oppose Trump than either Jeff Flake or Bob Corker. Both men voted for the “Skinny Repeal” when the women voted against it. We’d be better off looking to ally ourselves with them than two blowhards who only now “stand up” to Trump when they’ve nothing to lose.

I was really disappointed in Bob Corker when Trump first got elected because Bob had generally supported Trump since Bob is a Republican. I sent Bob Corker lots of letters asking him whether he was going to allow Trump’s nominees through and whether he was going to support Trump’s legislative agenda. He basically told me that he was going to allow Trump’s nominees through and that he was going to support Trump’s legislative agenda. That further disappointed me.

I think the Big Sort is not going to end up sorting North and South, but states that are the future and states that are the past. We’ll be losing the Rust Belt but gaining the Southwest and growing sunbelt states.

And good, Flake and Corker have seen the light. So, what are they going to do about it?

Yeah I think that’s the future. And I think you’ve seen that with the DNC having its conventions in Denver and Charlotte. I know Colorado isn’t the SW technically.

Trump’s “rage fans” are likely to rage away regardless: come 2020, I’m guessing; they will be doubling/tripling down on the rage, especially if the Democrats get control of one or more Houses of Congress: few things fire up the existential anger of an extremist minority more than having their minority status thrown in their faces by electoral losses.

When it came time for Germans in the Weimar Republic to support the Nazis, oppose the Nazis, or stand aside and do nothing, too many chose to stand aside and do nothing.

We now have an actively malignant Republican party in the US, with Trump merely being the most readily apparent symptom of that malignancy.

Anyone who chooses to stand aside, or to peddle both-siderism, or to continue to vote GOP out of habit or ‘because tax cuts’ is enabling Trump, Sessions, Bannon, Moore and the rest of these cancerous haters, bigots, clowns and trolls.

The argument is that if Flake truly holds to these convictions, then he needs to run on them. Best case scenario is he wins and shows the way forward for other anti-Trump candidates. Worst case scenario is he loses and a Trumper replaces him, proving that the party is too rotten to salvage. Saying he’s not running for reelection but he’ll stick around to vote does nothing but send the message that there’s no way to be anti-Trump unless you’re prepared to sacrifice your seat.

Thing is that Flake and the rest of the quitters speaking out are correct - they can’t speak out and run again in the GOP. There is no place left for honesty or even simple humanity in the Grand Old Fascist party. They have to be beaten into the ground, hopefully electorally, but given the core of white supremacist support that Trump has I’m not sure they can be. I mean, sweet fucking Jesus, a majority of white folks are STUPID enough to claim whites are being discriminated against.

GOP Delenda Est.

Literally, the GOP needs to be completely destroyed. In California, we’re getting there, as a result of reactionary Republicans screwing up the state and alienating the fastest growing segment of the voting population. I don’t know what will happen exactly, and the Dems might also split (which would be unfortunate), but some hope remains. It’s a race between GOP collapse and neo-fascist dictatorship, and we probably have to choose. I’ll take GOP collapse, and if Peter Thiel emigrates to New Zealand, that’s a bonus.

Yep. That’s why I personally don’t blame him for bailing. Sure maybe the honorable and proud thing would be to stick around and fight against this thing that you aided in growing, but at this point that may not be a fight that can be won. Something to keep in mind: Flake is very open about being a Libertarian and his voting record pretty much confirms that.

What he is saying now is that extreme Libertarianism is NOT EXTREME ENOUGH for today’s Arizona GOP.

There is no bottom for libertarian extremism. Murray Rothbard, one of their more famous thought leaders (i.e., cranks) had views on liberty and parenting I’ve never seen before — babies are obnoxious little moochers, and nobody (including parents) should be compelled to take care of them. Rothbard would have us believe it’s OK for parents to do nothing as their child starves in its crib (while fatuously asserting that child abuse is immoral).

i’d add a third thought

that the “critics” he aims at - in fact targets, very often are private, individual citizens

not public figures
not members of an organization with which he “disagrees”

just citizens all of whom he is supposed to represent

and he does this using the power and tools and trappings of the office - not as an “individual”

Sure thing we have a lot of nuts, but there is going to be a shaking out the nuts from the people that are being turned off by all of this. I think Trump is shrinking the party down to just the nuts. So, he may drop from 46% of the vote to somewhere below 40%.

I still have faith there are more normal people in this country than what it seems. Normal people are not as noisy on social media as wingnuts, bigots and other flotsam. I think we sometimes get caught up in the noise and take it for the majority.

Mainly agree, tp; but I’d posit that the “worst case scenario” is that Flake (or any other GOP “moderate”) loses, a Trumper replaces him - and wins the Senate seat. The Republican Party may have done their best to damage it lately, but we still have a Constitutional/institutional framework for our government: even if one Party is “too rotten to salvage”, it makes little difference if the Opposition can’t take advantage of it. And the biggest problem on that account, IMO, isn’t so much gerrymandering, or idiot media, or the bottomless well cesspool of “political money” gurgling around, but the corrosive (and cumulative) poison of RW propaganda that has undermined this country’s two-party system by painting said Opposition - the Democratic Party - as, often literally, the Party Of Satan, and whose legitimacy will always be held to be suspect.

Found a roasting pan in the back room, hmm, lots of cans tomato juice and diced tomato in the pantry, oh and a can of pineapple rings.

Little bit of minced garlic left in the fridge, some carrot and a small onion. Plenty of my favorite herb mix.

Pop the cast iron skillet on the stove and brown the veggies and the sides of the roast. Put them in the roasting pan and cover with pineapple rings then pour the tomato on and around the roast. Sprinkle Herbes de Provence - savory, marjoram, rosemary, thyme, oregano & one or two others - liberally. Gave it a half hour in a hot oven then turned it down.

I’ll make some rice to put it on in a couple of hours & then we’ll see. I’m hoping this will be good enough to see the week out since it is a three pound roast.

But do we have to look at it all through the eyes of wingnuts salivating at the chance to get even crazier?

I want to see Flake vote against GOP tax cuts. That would be an anti-Trump action to go along with his anti-Trump words.

For me, changed voting patterns are much more important than a change in party affiliation. After all, I define Republicans as those who habitually vote GOP in contested general elections, independently of how they are registered.

And the way he (and all the GOP) screamed about the deficit during the Obama years - they should ALL vote against the tax cuts - but the US norms - GOPers spend/reduce taxes then scream at the Democrats who raise taxes to fix the deficit and are then voted out - again and again.

We hang all of this turmoil and sensible* GOP politicians quitting and all the problems of Trump on ALL Republicans.

Jeff Flake quitting gives me an opportunity to bash Rob Portman for being a wimp and not standing up against Trump and speaking out.

It gives us a chance to say that the Republicans are not backing their own and are allowing more and more craziness.

It allows Democrats to use the healthcare and taxes BS that a majority of Americans are not happy with against the spineless Republicans unable to stand up against Trump where the Democrats have stood together to fight all of them.

*Sensible - I know there are no sensible Republicans, but it is time to use this stuff creatively. There are people that voted for Flake and Corker and probably agree with them now. We need them to crossover, go independent, etc.

If folks like McCain and Corker and Flake are serious about putting country ahead of party, it is going to take a lot more than talk. They are going to have to talk action. If they are willing and able to do that, I will gladly praise them.

This is basically a class division between 1%ers who exploit bigots and the bigots themselves. The revolt by Flake and Corker reflects a belated recognition that the 1%er Frankensteins have well and truly lost control of their monster (as we have known for years) and, further, that they have lost all hope of regaining that control.

The only thing that I would question is “the same realization that you and I had about Donald J. Trump two years ago.” I had the same realization circa 1971, when I first landed in New York and Trump and I were both in our twenties. Not a single thing I’ve seen from or about him in all the years since has joggled that realization at all, but only reinforced it. I wish that just this once the country would have listened to the people who know Trump best and despise him, New Yorkers.

Anyone who has been as dedicated a GOPer as Dinesh will likely prefer annihilation for all to the unbiased verdict of history.

Perhaps this is part of why the GOP is turning into an apocalyptic death cult. They are scared shitless of any history they can’t write to suit themselves.

Fresno student pelted with juice boxes and called gay slurs at school on her Sweet 16

Logann Pruneda, a student at Bullard High, says she was pelted with full juice boxes at school on Monday for being gay. It was her 16th birthday.

The Fresno Unified sophomore said that after a fire drill outside the school, she was hit with three boxes of apple juice from behind, leaving an abrasion and bruise on her neck. She was also hit in the back and ribs.

She heard a male call her “a faggot, a queer, a lesbo” during the attack, but did not see who did it, and did not recognize the voice.

“They were pretty hard throws,” she said. “All I heard was them calling me really mean names that involved my sexuality.”

This is the other California, the one on the east side of I-5. It’s not much different from Texas or Alabama.

Not that Democrats can’t win. Not that the country is starting to have a real revulsion to Trump and the fuckclowns he’s foisted upon all of us.

It’s that the DCCC prefers to live in a Cloud Cuckoo-land where everyone is kind, generous of spirit, and unafflicted by partisan hate.

Yes, that’s why the FBI suddenly created a black identity threat, and Fox News promoted the idea that Black Lives Matter is a terrorist group. I remember a few years back that the Tea Partiers could show their natural-born *sses in public 24/7/365 [ some of them with guns] and no one called them a threat to America or a terrorist group. Imagine that! Trump & Co. thinks we’re stupid. Black Americans know that his objection to some NFL players kneeling during the national anthem doesn’t have sh*t to do with patriotism or respecting our vets and troops. It’s about control via maintaining the status quo, promoting divisiveness, and painting us a being un-American “Others,” but don’t anyone dare call it racism.

If my kids grew up bilingual, I would not be opposed. Sure, I’d like them to speak English primarily because that’s the only language I know fluently, but if they went to Spanish or Japanese or *GASP* Chinese as a secondary language, who gives a fuck? Means they can communicate better in the truly global economy. What’s the universal language most likely to be, anyway?

Nonetheless, I did read the dissertation last night. Members of the Lawyers, Guns and Money community have asked for my opinion. I would not characterize it as a work of scholarship. I am confident that it would not earn him a doctorate at any reputable academic department in the United States. Indeed, it would be unacceptable as an undergraduate thesis for the Department of Government or the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. My guess is that Gorka wanted to call himself “Doctor,” and his PhD-granting institution was happy to oblige.

Oh, yes, came out very nicely. By being fairly small and in two chunks it cooked quite well in that amount of time. Nicely tender. The tomato, pineapple & juices combined to make a nice slightly sweet sauce that went well on a bed of rice. Could have used a bit more garlic but I used all I had left but that would probably be my only change next time unless I went with tomato sauce instead of juice to thicken the final sauce a bit more.

I’ve got a good two more meals left and unlike some leftovers, I’m actually looking forward to the next serving.

Just like ham & pineapple - either in a pot or on a pizza. It’s a good flavor combination. The other thing that works well with either ham or a roast is applesauce or a slow cooker full of apple juice - that’s especially nice if you have potato or cabbage to cook with the roast or a ham.
