Stephen Colbert: ‘Tis the Season for Treason: A Very Mueller Christmas (As Trump Rants Crazily)

Humor • Views: 39,006

YouTube

The three kings came bearing gold, frankincense, and myrrh; but only jolly ol’ Robert Mueller could bring charges to Manafort, King, and Papadopoulos.

Meanwhile … on Twitter, Donald Trump is raging and ranting and lying like, well, like he always does.

Re-upped from below:

“… it’s important to reckon with the scope of what Trump and his allies are alleging. The idea is that Mueller — who was originally appointed to head the FBI by George W. Bush, and who became special counsel because of Trump’s own firing of his FBI director over the Russia probe — originally participated in a hallucinatory conspiracy to cover up Clinton collusion with Russia. Now Mueller is using the current investigation to distract from it. In this alternate universe, all of that is the crisis (Hannity’s word) we face, and the only way to address it is for Trump to close all of it down. Dem strategist Simon Rosenberg is right to point out that Trump’s trafficking in all of this — his endorsement of the idea of preposterous levels of corruption and conspiracy theories unfurling at many levels throughout the government — itself raises questions about Trump’s fitness to serve. We need to confront the insanity and depravity of all this forthrightly, and convey it accurately.”

Oh, I have no doubt we’ll see some domestic terrorism if he’s removed from office. Protests, whining, “lone wolves,” gun-fondlers marching in the streets, etc.

But, I have absolutely had ENOUGH of what the right wing has done and is trying to do to this country. They won’t be happy until the country is burned down and rebuilt in the way they want it to be. So if we have to fight every single one of them to preserve this country and this democracy, bring it. I’m done.

Khal Wimpo (the extinguisher of tiki torches)  Oct 31, 2017 • 11:30:15am

The annotations on this in the WaPo are DEVASTATING. I just paged this, because it provides the road map for how the Feds are going to break Trump’s balls in a giant hydraulic crusher.

A sampling:

4. In furtherance of the scheme, MANAFORT used his hidden overseas wealth to enjoy a lavish lifestyle in the United States, without paying taxes on that income. MANAFORT, without reporting the income to his tax preparer or the United States, spent millions of dollars on luxury goods and services for himself and his extended family through payments wired from offshore nominee accounts to United States vendors. MANAFORT also used these offshore accounts to purchase multi-million dollar properties in the United States. MANAFORT then borrowed millions of dollars in loans using these properties as collateral, thereby obtaining cash in the United States without reporting and paying taxes on the income. In order to increase the amount of money he could access in the United States, MANAFORT defrauded the institutions that loaned money on these properties so that they would lend him more money at more favorable rates than he would otherwise be able to obtain.

I still believe that Saturday Night Massacre II: Stupid Watergate would have the same conclusion at Act II that the original did. The GOP powers that be will tell the president that he either resigns and gets a pardon or he is impeached and removed. Act III probably won’t go the same way as the original, because sequels always have to be bigger and better.

IT’S THE MONEY, STUPID:

“Company A and Company B were paid for their services not by their nominal client, the Centre, but solely through off-shore accounts associated with the MANAFORT-GATES entities, namely Bletilla Ventures Limited (in Cyprus) and Jeunet Ltd. and Global Endeavour Inc. (in Grenadines).”

This is classic laundering.

Behind all the lies: PUTIN

The fact that Mueller has tracked down the shell companies here to Cyprus & Grenadines - both of which are notorious for being used by Russian Mafia to launder drug/sex slave/weapons money …

… that is bad news for Trump.

The Greater LA Metro Area has, until recently, been more split politically than the Bay Area. Orange County is, at best, purplish. Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, until the last decade or so, were more reliably Republican. Even Ventura County was (and remains) fairly evenly split (per the 2017 Secretary of State report, D/R/I/T registration is 41/32/22/5).

So while the state as a whole leans Democratic, there is a Democratic power base in the Bay Area. That gives Bay Area pols a leg up in planning a statewide run in a state where those are very costly.

The “compromise” where the South gets to keep its slaves, it gets to spread slavery into the western territories, and the Northern states vigorously enforce the Fugitive Slave Act. Go ahead, General Kelly, admit that protecting and expanding the institution of slavery is the “compromise” that would’ve kept the Union together.

From what I remember, when we went out in the neighborhood the only “costume” I wore was one of those cheap masks. Sometimes they came with those silly pull-over wear, but I don’t remember wearing that stuff.

Probably Ben Cooper costumes, one of the first companies to focus on Halloween costumes and to make licensed pop culture costumes.

When you do a Google image search for “Halloween costumes” for every decade from the 1950s-1980s, almost all the results are for Ben Cooper costumes.

NYC incident isn’t a terror attack: NYPD.

It started with a vehicle altercation between two drivers, and one of them then plowed into a crowd of bicyclists near Stuyvesant HS at the West Side Highway.

If they only had guns, they could have settled their dispute honorably.

100% down 31.5% = 68.5%
68.5% up 7.8% = 73.84%
Still down 26.16%

An effective change of 5.34% compared to the high 10 yrs ago.

This makes no sense. Why was Lee an “honorable man”? Why was he a “great man”?

Oh wait, I think I know….

Because we have too long read Jubal Early and The Lost Cause’s view of him. Most people who praise Lee praise a myth. Every state in the Union sent volunteers to protect her. Lee’s Virginia sent the most volunteers after Tennessee of any CSA state. Where are their memorials? Where are the salutes to men like Sam Houston, Winfield Scott, and George Thomas who chose country over state?

The Indian wars East of the Mississippi were mostly before his time, and “winning the West” was mostly 1870’s/1880’s. Although I suppose he could have been the right age to participate in the Trail of Tears.

Just checked: In the late 1850s he was stationed in West Texas and had some fights with the Comanches. His remarks quoted in Long, “Memoirs of Robert E. Lee,” regarding the Indians are typical of the time, in other words racist in the extreme.

250
Dr Lizardo  Oct 31, 2017 • 1:42:23pm

Ladies and gentlemen, Lizards of all ages, Nigel Farage:

Former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage opined Monday on the what he said is the disproportionate influence that the “Jewish lobby, with its links with the Israeli government,” has on American politics.

During his call-in show Tuesday on the British radio station LBC, a listener asked about the difference in attention paid to Russian meddling in the 2016 election in the United States — during which Farage campaigned for Donald Trump — and “AIPAC and the Israeli lobby, and their involvement in American politics and elections.”

AIPAC, or the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, is perhaps the most influential pro-Israel lobbying group in American politics, and presidential candidates and other political figures regularly address its annual convention. Both Trump and Hillary Clinton did in 2016.

But, rather than addressing the Israel lobby as such, Farage described it as a “Jewish lobby.”

“That’s a reasonable point,” he began in response. “Because there are about 6 million Jewish people living in America, so as a percentage, it’s quite small, but in terms of influence, it’s quite big.”

They have to tread carefully with this kind of stuff but given the obvious targeting of media by the Russian influence machine, and the incestuous relationship between RWNJ media and conservative politicians, it is entirely possible that certain media figures will end up being indicted. The same is probably true of certain televangelists. In right-wing America, it is sometimes hard to draw a line between media, partisan activism, and religious zealotry, especially at the lower levels.

Especially George “The Rock of Chickamauga” Thomas, whose quote I pull out whenever somebody on FB rants about “southern history & heritage”

Efforts made by the defeated insurgents since the close of the war have been to promulgate the idea that the cause of liberty, justice, humanity, equality, and all the calendar of the virtues of freedom, suffered violence and wrong when the effort for southern independence failed. This is, of course, intended as a species of political cant, whereby the crime of treason might be covered with a counterfeit varnish of patriotism.

Lucian B. Wintrich ✔ @lucianwintrich
Anyone with even a remote sense of military history knows what a brilliant general Lee was

Makes you wonder how much military history, esp. Civil War military history, this Wintrich jerk knows. Sure, the Lost Cause school painted Lee as a genius and Grant as a blundering butcher, but for quite a while now that view has been seriously questioned. Lee’s invasion of Pennsylvania was a disaster, rife with errors and culminated by an insane attack across open terrain against fortified defenders on higher ground. (Lee’s loses for the three days of Gettysburg were greater than the Union’s losses for any three-day period under Grant, and altogether for the war, Lee lost more soldiers under his command than any other general, including Grant.) Throughout the Overland Campaign that ended in Lee’s surrender, he was outmaneuvered by Grant, who continually forced him closer and closer to Richmond and the final siege at Petersburg.

Don’t get me wrong, Lee was a talented commander. But he wasn’t the god of war that his swooning admirers try to make him.

Grant and especially Sherman were the guys who understood what war had become.

This is true, but it’s also important to realise that these aren’t his own thoughts. He doesn’t really have any thoughts other than the constant need for approval and the desire to humiliate others.

These are the thoughts of FOX and cult media, which he consumes constantly, just like a significant proportion of America. He repeats what he sees, they report on what he repeats, and thus are ideas created out of nothing. We can agree on what a repulsive human he is, but the desire to mainstream white nationalism and authoritarianism is not his - it comes from a source far bigger, and far more powerful than Trump.

And in any case, came to the US some years ago - well before Trump’s incumbency, so no: in this case, The Yam isn’t responsible.
Though dumping on Trump is usually always a valid point, one way or another.

Actually, I CAN dump this on Trump.
He’s responsible for the Muslim hysteria and any resulting backlash.
This is all on him.

Yikes! Now that’s serious. No wonder it was their “finest hour.”

If Lee was so great, then why did he lose?

I know, you’re going to say the odds were stacked against him — an industrial North was superior at war-making to the agrarian south, blah blah blah.

It’s a historical fact that many generals won against far greater odds.

The flip side to that is the depressing fact that if we get Adolf Hitler v2.0 in a major European power, just about everyone in the Republican party would be an enthusiastic supporter.

Quite a few of them were enthusiastic supporters of the original.
America First Committee.

Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan has praised America First and used its name as a slogan. “The achievements of that organization are monumental,” writes Buchanan. “By keeping America out of World War II until Hitler attacked Stalin in June 1941, Soviet Russia, not America, bore the brunt of the fighting, bleeding and dying to defeat Nazi Germany.”

A reporter really should have asked SHS what contributions the traitor and oathbreaker Lee made to the US.

Treason and oathbreaking by Lee are always conveniently left out of the Lost Cause myth-making.

In a related bit of trivia, there’s a joke ‘cabbage’ opening in chess.

In common chess notation, the columns are labeled a-h, the rows are labeled 1-8 and the notation for moves by a pawn is to identify the square the pawn goes to. So c3, a3, b3, b4, a4, g3, e3 as the first moves spells out cabbage.

It’s a lousy opening.

Currently doing a quality check on the goodies to be dispensed this evening. Discovered the “Fun Sized” treats have shrunk to a “No Fun Size”. Today’s Trick or Treaters are getting ripped off by Big Candy Companies.

Our house has a strict rule: No more than 2 pieces of candy per treater. (Have to have some leftovers for the old farts.)

Trick or Treaters never show up here at TheBackwoods

I haz all the candies for me.

And this year, Reese’s has a new (at least new to me) fun size candybar called the FastBreak.

We bought a 5 pound bag of small candy - lollipops, Tootsie Rolls, jawbreakers, Smarties, etc. By the time my wife was leaving the office, it was all gone, so my wife stopped for more and got 4 bags of ‘fun sized’ Kit Kats, Almond Joy and Milky Way.

Since she got home, we had four trick or treaters. Looks like I’ve got midday snacks for a while…
