Trump Is Attacking the US Justice System: “A Joke” and “A Laughing Stock”

Politics • Views: 35,655

Our so-called president Donald Trump has been tweeting a non-stop series of fear-mongering comments after the terror attack in Manhattan, pushing his ban on immigration and lashing out at Chuck Schumer, parroting a talking point from his favorite Fox News propaganda show, Fox & Friends (of course).

Now he’s even lashing out at the justice system, calling for swifter, harsher punishment like a freaking medieval tyrant.

As I’ve pointed out before, Trump is doing exactly what the terrorists want. Demonizing all Muslims and causing hysterical overreactions is one of the prime goals of terrorism.

A Putin fan would be opposed to the right of counsel, due process, trial by jury, and the concept of innocent until proven guilty.

Fox & Friends has been claiming all morning that NY terror attack was caused by someone on a “diversity visa,” and blaming Schumer. BUT! pic.twitter.com

Compare/contrast:

Middle aged white guy has arsenal of high power rifles and bump stocks - murders 59 and injured nearly 600 in under 10 minutes. Trump refuses to act on banning bump stocks or cracking down on gun sales.

Middle aged white guy tears through crowd of protesters in Charlottesville because he opposed their opposition to Nazis and white supremacists. Driver is a white supremacist.
Trump refused to call it an act of terrorism and equated those protesting the Nazis with the Nazis themselves (including the one who murdered a woman protesting the Nazis).

Guy who turns out to be a Muslim drives through crowd of bicyclists and pedestrians in NYC and Trump loses his shit calling for more “extreme vetting” and other nonsense that has already been found unconstitutional, then attacks Sen. Schumer for something that didn’t actually happen, and then throws up more chaff to deflect from reality.

Then GOPers take turns suggesting that the driver in NYC should be sent to Gitmo (McCain, etc.). Handful realize that’s … um… UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Yeah, the GOP are a bunch of authoritarians who don’t care about the rule of law or facts. They just want power and are using these terror attacks to further accumulate power in their cabal while degrading our collective rights protected under the Constitution.

Yeah. To be fair, Trump’s instinct is to walk away when the pressure gets to be too much….he’s done that repeatedly in his business life. However, this is a different kettle of fish, and walking away is not so easy now. He can’t just settle this out of court with a Hefty bag of cash and an NDA.

You get a Pence pardon and he’ll be a laughing stock. The GOP will start saying “We hardly knew him, he was just a president for a few months, wasn’t really important or anything. Really just a guy who hung around and got covfefe for the adults, just a kid”

If the GOP’s internal polling shows that Trump is going to be the cause of an electoral massacre in next year’s mid-terms, they’ll turn on him so fast, there won’t be enough whiplash collars in all the USA.

Patterns in the horseshit: the president keeps claiming we’re being laughed at and not respected, and the sovereign “remedy” is to be more cruel, less respectful of rule of law.

I keep saying it, and I’m saying it again: there’s no actual “policy.” It’s all about their feelings of inadequacy and their fantasies of retaliation. Any formal or informal social system that stops or slows them from lashing out (and getting that good rage fix) has to be destroyed or subverted.

Researchers warn state system to catch voter fraud has 99% false positive rate

A database system that will now be used by Indiana to automatically purge voter registrations that have duplicates in other states is 99 percent more likely to purge legitimate voters, according to a paper published last week by researchers from Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Yale, and Microsoft Research. Using the probability of matching birth dates for people with common first, middle, and last names and an audit of poll books from the 2012 US presidential election, the researchers concluded that the system would de-register “about 300 registrations used to cast a seemingly legitimate vote for every one registration used to cast a double vote.”

The Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck Program is a system administered by the office of Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach—the vice-chair of President Donald Trump’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. Crosscheck uses voter roll data from 27 states—pulled every January by election officials and uploaded to an FTP site—to check for duplicate records across states, based on full name and date of birth, as well as the last four digits of social security numbers where that data is collected by voter registration (which is not consistent from state to state).

In short, it’s doing exactly what Trump and Kobach want it to do - disenfranchise voters.

We’re being attacked on so many fronts now it’s hard to keep track of it all.

Bannon recently told people he’s not sure if Trump would survive such a vote,” wrote Sherman.

I don’t think so. They won’t win any brownie points for turning on Trump, but they will lose the GOP base if they turn on him. Congressional Republicans are still less popular with the GOP base than Trump is. They need Trump voters to turn out next November, and they need to avoid primary challenges from Trumpists. So I expect them to stick with Trump at least through the mid-terms. From their pov, that’s the least bad choice in the run-up to the mid-terms.

I’d say there’s some level of coordination of talking points, but it isn’t necessarily a line between Trump and FOX. There’s so many intermediary organizations with similar messaging goals. At this point, I’d almost argue the opposite…Trump is a wild card influenced by whatever he hears last (that is flattering). Nobody’s coordinating with him, everybody is trying to maneuver him, and one of the ways of doing that is controlling his information-in stream.

So…imagine building a show around an audience of one.

What will really turn the GOP? Wait till next year, late spring or thereabouts.

If the GOP’s internal polling shows that Trump is going to be the cause of an electoral massacre in next year’s mid-terms, they’ll turn on him so fast, there won’t be enough whiplash collars in all the USA.

There are two counterpoints to this. One is that they will do nothing of the sort as long as their base remains devoted to Trump and the cause of authoritarianism in general. They will instead cower before Bannon and swear allegiance to the regime.

The second is that there can be no electoral massacre while cult media continues to push Trump as dictator, as their base will do whatever their media demands. If cult media were to turn on Trump, of course, then he would immediately fall.

This is good: America’s Victim in Chief.

Imagine growing up heir to a fortune in New York City, attending an Ivy League university, marrying a series of models, getting paid millions of dollars to host a reality-TV show, getting elected president … and then constantly casting yourself as a victim.

That apparent compulsion is defining Donald Trump’s presidency.

Scarcely a week goes by without Trump whining that he has been mistreated by the media, a political rival, a TV personality, or a legislator. He is John McEnroe; the presidency is his U.S. Open. We are the crowd, transfixed in spite of ourselves by unnerving tantrums, which betray the fact that he is too volatile and too weak to master himself.

His victim mentality is deepening along with Robert Mueller’s probe.

McEnroe would most likely object to the comparison, but it’s a good one.

re: #75 Big Beautiful Door

I don’t think so. They won’t win any brownie points for turning on Trump, but they will lose the GOP base if they turn on him. Congressional Republicans are still less popular with the GOP base than Trump is. They need Trump voters to turn out next November, and they need to avoid primary challenges from Trumpists. So I expect them to stick with Trump at least through the mid-terms. From their pov, that’s the least bad choice in the run-up to the mid-terms.

At some point, when the most crazy amongst the republican’s running can’t get through a general election in places like OK (two in the last two races), GA (almost got the last one) and other GOP strongholds, the GOP will finally be relegated to the dust bin of history with the Am. Nazi party picking up part of the vote and the Am. Goober party picking up the rest. But they are literally killing themselves.

I agree. Ironically, their own success in redistributing wealth to the 1% and pandering to racists and bigots has pushed them into a corner they can’t escape from. In order to shovel even more money to the rich, they have to pander ever more hysterically to racists and bigots to get enough votes to stay in power, which has led to its logical end point in Trump. Actually, given the record - worldwide - regarding these type of vehicle attacks, it’s somewhat out of the ordinary that Sayfullo Saipov survived to be taken into custody: the usual phrase associated with these attacks is something like “assailant(s) were killed in a hail of police bullets” (probably the perps’ intention, anyway) - an NYPD slug goes a few centimeters in another direction, and that might have been Saipov’s obit, too.

It keeps eating away at the good tissue and cells until it has completely taken over a majority of the organs, killing off any natural resistance from the immune system and the body dies.

The GOP will be the same. Crazy will continue until it takes over and the party dies. Until that happens the GOP will stagger around sick and unable to perform.

We are seeing that right now. They are sick and staggering. The immune system is a wreck because anyone capable of putting up a fight like an immune system has realized there is no hope to stopping the nuts and they are running from the party.

Meanwhile the party is becoming attractive only to the nuts and anyone remotely sane is running around calling themselves Independents. Not good for the sick party.

Well, it helps to have some actual intelligence and familiarity with what it takes to do said job. Obama has a lot to offer, Trump…no so much.

Donny’s ego was bigger than the reality of the situation, which is pretty much the same as everything else he tried.

You know, people always say with Trump anything he says is the opposite. So, every time he told his adoring crowds at his election stops “I’m a winner” he really was saying “I am a loser.” The proof was there all along.

Just got a mailer in support of Ed Gellespie. Get ready for this: The pitch on one side has a screenshot of Trump’s pro-Ed tweet, the backside is two quotes from editorials basically saying “Vote against Ralph Northam because he said mean things about Trump.”

This nation is becoming a parody of itself.

Gillespie hopefully will have his political obituary written on Tuesday. I’m volunteering for Ralph, Justin, and Mark on Saturday.

That’s not a path, it’s a minefield. Democratic ads will be all about the lawless president and his pardoning of traitors.

This will be drowned out by 90% of articles in the NYT and on CNN asking ‘why are Democrats so divisive?’ Many other articles will hammer on Democrat presidential pardons and explain why they were worse. Chris Cilizza will blame it all on Hillary.

Every time I respond on FB with a few basic, pretty much incontrovertible facts about this, it shuts them up:

1. Rosatom can’t take the Uranium out of the US.
2. The US has all the enriched uranium it will ever need because we used to have 32,000 nukes and now have about 7000, and with a half-life of 703,000,000 years, 235U doesn’t go bad. We haven’t enriched any for weapons in 50 years.
3. Russia already produces 4x as much Uranium as the US, and has vastly greater untapped reserves.
4. Russia also has leftover enriched Uranium from the Arms Race, so they don’t need any more.

from the raw story article

You need a special counsel in situations where high-ranking people in the current White House are implicated in a criminal investigation, including potentially the president,” said former ethics czar to the Pres. George W. Bush Richard Painter. “That is why we appointed a special counsel in the Russia investigation and indeed we didn’t end up getting one until President Trump fired the director of the F.B.I.”

If the Trump administration genuinely wanted to investigate the Uranium One deal, a special prosecutor wouldn’t be necessary, said former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti.

“I don’t understand why you would need a special counsel when no one is really concerned that Jeff Sessions and anyone else appointed by Trump is going to be anything other than diligent,”
Mariotti explained.

the administration could “investigate” this tomorrow if it wanted to

Thought the Uranium for that deal was for power and not weapons?

That’s another point. However, if you say that, they’ll respond with “You could make it into weapons!” Which is true. SO that’s why I point out that neither we, nor Russia need any more weapons grade Uranium. It’s got a half-life twice as long as the entire existence of vertebrates on Earth. And Russia already has more Uranium than we do.

But the craziest thing I’ve seen on this was yesterday, when I saw this:

So much wrong with this, including but not limited to:
1) No export license.
2) Russia doesn’t need our uranium to sell to Iran.
3) Iran doesn’t need to buy from Russia, since Kazakhstan produces 40% of global U production.
But most importantly,
4) Iran gave up nearly all her enriched Uranium, and nearly all her centrifuges. Why would the give up ENRICHED Uranium for UN-ENRICHED Uranium?

Such is the lifecycle of conspiracy theories….

Something happens. Conspiracy theorist determines that there’s more to Something than it appears. Conspiracy theorist spreads his conspiracy theory, usually with selectively edited information about Something, a basic misunderstanding of how things related to Something work, and/or the absence of information regarding the Something that happened. Rational people establish that, yes, Something happened, but that the conspiracy theory is bullshit and do so by showing their work. Conspiracy theorist goes back to the drawing board, finds a new and/or different perceived error in the official story of Something and then relaunch their conspiracy theory about Something with minimal or no real changes (hoping that people will have forgotten, and not saying it loud enough for rational people to hear). Rational people ignore the conspiracy theory because, again, it’s bullshit; but some marks begin to believe the conspiracy theory, and so it goes.

Good to see you! Been a while.

Yeah. My whole world has been turned upside down lately. There’s been a whole lot of good - I have a great job with a company I like that has supportive management and fun co-workers. I finally got in good enough financial shape to buy a car (2016 Mazda 3) and some new furniture. But my mom’s health has declined. She’s been in a nursing home for a couple of weeks now and I’m facing the process of going through her house to figure out what goes where and to who. I’m also navigating all the family landmines of relatives who’ve been involved in her care. People have opinions, don’tcha know.

It’s been an experience, that’s for damn sure.

So, Ari Melber is asking quick questions of Michael Caputo about Monday’s indictments.

He seems to be adamant that George Papadopoulos was a nobody in the Trump campaign, a complete no-nothing that should never have been a part of the campaign. He is stressing that Papadopoulos wouldn’t have any ability to know what he seems to be acting like he knows in his testimony because of his vast nothingness in the Trump world.

Uh huh, sure Mike. Why do I think you are just another smoke screener? If anyone looks into your background they shouldn’t trust you on, say, Russia. Or, really anything else. You have a good history of working with some pretty sleazy candidates.

Heh. Just did a Google search on recent news for Michael Caputo and came up with this from CNN. Looks like he is out working the circuit with a Trump talking point. That is: no one ever knew George Papadopoulos. Who is he again???

And now Tweety Matthews is talking about this very thing…no one knows Papadopoulos.

Ex-Trump campaign adviser: Papadopoulos was just a ‘coffee boy’

Washington (CNN)Former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo downplayed George Papadopoulos’ role in the 2016 campaign, calling him a volunteer “coffee boy” — despite the fact that then-candidate Donald Trump called him an “excellent guy” last year.

“He never showed up at Trump Tower. Never had any interaction with any of the campaign leaders around me, and the leaders of the Washington office of the campaign didn’t even know who he was until his name appeared in the press,” Caputo told CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday.

…cut…

“He was the coffee boy,” Caputo said. “You might have called him a foreign policy analyst, but if he was going to wear a wire, all we would have known now is whether he prefers a caramel macchiato over a regular American coffee in conversations with his barista.”

Caputo added that the former foreign policy adviser’s “contact with alleged Russians is completely beyond the scope of his volunteer duties.”

…cut…

Been looking over Trump’s casino doings in Atlantic City. Question is, how do you really lose serious money over many years on casinos, especially in times when your competitors in the same town are raking it in? I used to think there were only two answers, either grotesque incompetence or stealing off the top (not just straight grabbing, of course: it would take all kinds of tricks involving debt restructuring etc.). Then it hit me that there’s a third way: Is there any better possible vehicle for laundering large amounts of money from, oh, I don’t know, let’s say Russian criminals, than busting out a casino?

Then it hit me yet again: All of ‘em, Katie.

Then it hit me yet again: All of ‘em, Katie.

My understanding was that he didn’t get into bed with the Russians until no US (or possibly Euro) bank would touch him because of his repeated business failings. My guess is that most of it was incompetence - one of the casinos went bankrupt before it even opened, which means he was overspending on construction and decided to fuck over contractors. I don’t think Trump is or was smart enough to embezzle from his own company, nor does it particularly make sense (especially since it is a privately held company, so it’s ultimately an alter ego of the family).

Nah, it was incompetence, because the guy is basically a mark born into way too much money. He was born on third and somehow managed to steal second.

I very much doubt Mueller would step on that landmine, too much risk of blowback, accusations of “bugging the White House.” Also low chance of reward, that somebody with an official position in the administration would say something incriminating to Papadopoulis who’d just be there on a visitor’s day pass. Much better to set up an informal meeting somewhere else in DC like a restaurant or bar where alcohol could loosen their tongue.

Honestly, with all due respect to the late Molly Ivins, I never liked the triple line for H.W. Bush because to H.W.’s credit, he was the Navy’s youngest fighter pilot in WWII, he did work his way up in politics, etc. It’s still a great line but there were others on the right who deserved it more IMO.

The GHW Bush zinger I always remember was Ann Richards, “Poor George, born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

re: #314 KGxvi

My understanding was that he didn’t get into bed with the Russians until no US (or possibly Euro) bank would touch him because of his repeated business failings. My guess is that most of it was incompetence - one of the casinos went bankrupt before it even opened, which means he was overspending on construction and decided to fuck over contractors.

It was mainly about shifting debt onto shareholders and bondholders. A lot of this was technically fraudulent and should have been prosecuted. As it was, there were many out of court settlements, in which the screwed parties recovered only a fraction of what they had been cheated out of.

I don’t think Trump is or was smart enough to embezzle from his own company, nor does it particularly make sense (especially since it is a privately held company, so it’s ultimately an alter ego of the family).

See above. A lot of it involved dropping personal debt onto shareholder-held entities. Rubber-stamp boards allowed this. Again, should have gone to jail then and there.

Nah, it was incompetence, because the guy is basically a mark born into way too much money. He was born on third and somehow managed to steal second.

Like I said, all of ‘em.

That was my thought after my initial post. He may not have worn a wire to the WH, but could have worn it a lot of other places.

If it is done with a court order and totally legal, is that bugging the White House?

I know what you are saying and how it would be sold, but these may be special times and a judge and a jury may have seen this as necessary.

All of which is by way of saying that for once, a Democratic-aligned outside group, the Latino Victory Fund, has released a scare-you-to-the-polls commercial that made us gasp (and stopped your Editrix’s heart). Titled “American Nightmare,” the ad shows a big black pickup with a Gillespie bumper sticker, a Confederate flag, and a “Don’t Tread On Me” front license plate chasing after a bunch of terrified minority kids like the demonic old tanker truck in Duel. It ends with the truck cornering the kids in an alley — and then we see each of the little kids waking up from the nightmare, scared but safe at home. Or are they? The ad ends with parents watching TV footage of Nazis in Charlottesville marching by tiki torch, as a voiceover asks ominously, “Is this what Donald Trump and Ed Gillespie mean by the American Dream?”

This thing is scary effective. Before you watch it, we hope you’ve got your shittin’ pants on:

He honestly gave Reagan a pretty good fight given that he probably lacked the name recon. Remember Reagan had nearly beaten Ford in 1976. It honestly is too bad that Bush did not win the nomination in 1980. I think the H.W. Bush of 1980 probably doesn’t bring ratfucks like Atwater and Ailes on board. I do think H.W. Bush is the best full term Republican President since Ike left office.

Mitt and Trump are similar in that they both so desperately wanted to be part of the blue blood elite, but had various disqualifying characteristics. Yeah I don’t like what Baker later did for his old boss’s son in the Florida recount but he performed admirably as SoS in the lead up to the Gulf War. I think H.W. Bush does deserve some props, Americans with DIsabilties Act, the Clean Air Act, and in fact the immigration act that Trump blamed Schumer for today. That’s true. Had Mitt been Episcopalian from New England, he probably gets in with that crowd more easier. And yeah you’re right about Trump too. He’s old money but he acts like a ganster. Public service was what you did in that family.

But I never got a feeling from him of why he wanted to be President. I mean, he REALLY wanted to be, or he wouldn’t have gotten as dirty as he did to get there. But what was his guiding principle?

Reagan wanted to push the Overton window to the Right, cut taxes, deregulate, and pursue a more aggressive foreign policy. Clinton and Obama both wanted to use the power of government to improve peoples’ lives. Trump wants to make himself richer and make people he hates suffer.

Before 9/11, GWB REALLY gave me the feeling of someone who had no real purpose in being President, way more even than his Dad.

You know, I don’t like John Smoltz’s personal politics (He’s quite homophobic unfortunately) but I like him as a color commentator. Fox did a good job hiring him after McCarver finally retired. He’s got great perspective as a guy who pretty much was always in teh playoffs in his career and pitched a couple Game Sevens himself.

Anyone is better than Tim McCarver. I may be biased though. Since he never failed to show disdain for the Mets.
And, Buck & McCarver working games together practically made them unbearable.

I do wonder if he might blame the Deep State and Establishment for not getting anything done (especially if tax reform fails) and pretend to quit in protest.

Cole is currently a semi-denier - accepts mass gassings of Jews and the extermination plan, quibbles over Auschwitz and some smaller stuff. He’s less of a denier than Chucky.

Yep, that’ll do a number on your world. Wishing you strength and wishing her comfort, as far as possible. And hoping the “going through” process doesn’t blow up too many of those landmines. It’s never a fun task, but sometimes there are good memories to be savored.
Hang in there.
