The job creators are going to have a Shitpot more money to create jobs!

Yippee!

And giving tax breaks to the highest earners will decrease the deficit!

Hoozah!

Except that it has never worked that way, and the poor and the middle class always get screwed.

I think Putin implemented this no doubt but a young tech savvy aide suggested it. I don’t know how much Putin keeps up with social media innovation but that’s what I think. Manipulating social media is a much easier process than what the USSR woukd have done 30 years ago. That’s the paradox of Social Media. It connects us as I’m to you all now but it can be just as easily used to ferment division and discontent. All technology is like this but I think nothing defines it more than modern social media.

re: #18 GlutenFreeJesus

I’d take it even further. Twitter’s founders in Putin’s pocket, and they created it just for this very reason. Eh. Dammit. Where’s my foil hat…

Yeah, that’s a bridge too far.

The founder’s of these social networks weren’t doing it for anything but cash. Did they leave big ass holes that could be exploited when they set up the original programming? Sure. They weren’t worried about that. They just wanted eyes on their content and ads, and the holes left openings for intrusion by bad actors.

Now, when the holes have already been exploited, and a bazillion fake accounts have invaded their platforms which click on their ads with automated click programs to make them money, they are being asked to clean up their sites. Why would they do that?

Here’s the thing. The folks who are really being ripped off are their advertisers, who see clicks as possible sales and, therefore money. Let’s say each click is worth a thousandth of a cent (blue sky figure, I have no idea). But if 20,000,000 million Drumpf Russian automated bots are programmed to click thirty ads a day on Twitter, with no intention of buying a damn thing, then Twitter’s business model collapses, because the people placing the ads will eventually twig to it.

They are stuck between a rock and a hard place until the ad buys to their site dry up. Then they will have to rework a business model that makes clicks worth the advertisers time, and that means getting rid of the bots.

It’s really up to the people that buy ads on these social networks to say “Hey! We’re getting screwed here! You aren’t really giving us value for what we paid for! 90% of our clicks, that we thought were potential customers, are just Russian bots! We’re done on this platform.”

The new Cyber Capitalism. Should be fun to watch.

One of the last things you do is put turfing on the base, using a mixture of water, woodglue and liquid dish soap, and whatever material you use for the base, in this case, a desert stone mix.

I heard that from some quarters during the campaign - “Trump was involved with the Mob back in the 70’s”.

Yeah….he was a real estate developer. In NYC. In the 1970’s. Having to cooperate at some level with the Five Families was pretty much unavoidable in that era, as the Mob basically owned the construction business back then. There was little else he could do.

I can’t stand Trump, but on that issue, well……. I’ll give him a pass, simply owing to the time and place. I don’t like it, but it was a very different time and things need to be understood in their proper historical context.

My boss, who’s from NYC, we were talking about this and he said, “Hell, the Mob practically ran New York City back then; Trump really didn’t have a lotta choice in the matter, not if he wanted to get anything done. That’s just how it was.”

Wouldn’t you agree tha in that time the hand of the mob in the city has pretty much turned to the Russians? And after the 80’s, Putin pretty much assumed that leadership as well? With all that the money laundering thru real estate was a easy follow. The man couldn’t get credit in the country to save his soul(what little there is)… And as we all know, Jr. said they had a resource on the Volga.

Yeah, the Russian Mob has a major presence all along the Eastern Seaboard. I’m sure the Five Families still have a strong presence, but it’s more hidden now. The ’60s and ’70s were the twilight of the Mafia’s “golden age”. It was all downhill from there, and the Russians stepped in to fill the vacuum.

I’d reckon Trump’s money laundering activities would’ve begun in earnest in the 1990’s, after the collapse of the USSR, when suddenly there was a whole lotta money that needed to be squirreled away.

Due to my prescription plan, I am unable to purchase from most pharmacies (I work at a refail company with pharmacies in-store “I owe my health to the company store”).

The drug I currently take for seizures is currently unavailable in generic form here, I think. 60 pills of Vimpat 150 mg costs about $800 (holy crap until I reach my yearly deductible, then $20 after that).

I checked a Canadian online pharmacy, and I can get 800 pills of lacosamide (generic form) for less than $500. THIRTEEN TIMES more, for two-thirds the price. OVER A YEARS SUPPLY.

The fact that Trump has not been indicted for violations of the Emoluments Clause, conflicts of interest, collusion and obstruction of justice is proof of that.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. The GOP tax plan is a dud, and the Senate will basically be starting from scratch because the plan is unsustainable and the CBO would fail it with extreme prejudice.

The GOP doesn’t do math, and they are again failing in the same ways they did with the Trumpcare fiasco. They push massive cuts for the rich, and screw everyone else, and the debt run up on this shows that they aren’t about fiscal responsibility but about shifting the burdens from the rich to everyone else.

Those burdens are direct and indirect. The GOP would use the debt as a demand to slash spending, which would be a second hit on the rest of the nation. All the while, rich folks see all the benefits and none of the burdens.

The passthrough scheme is essentially the Kansas disaster writ large. Passthrough tax rate cut to 20% means that corporations and millionaires like Trump could structure their businesses in a way that they’d pay less than anyone in the middle class.

That’s the point of the passthrough entity - the income passes through to the individual or corporate entity owner who pays tax at their income tax rate bracket.

Trump who if truly a billionaire with income to match would be paying 39.6% before deductions, would find themselves with nearly a 50% cut on passthrough income down to 20% before deductions.

Meanwhile, someone in the middle class would be paying 25% with limited deductions because the GOP eliminated the ones most likely to be useful to them.

The sad thing is, Mueller seems to be doing everything right, playing his cards close to the chest, and not betraying anything until it’s time for a hammer to drop.

Just that we as a country seem to need those regular updates to keep us from getting distracted by the latest ratfucking du jour and keep them from being seeded into the American consciousness (at least prevent it as much as possible, considering our Media would probably chase the squirrel regardless) and creating either an unpenetrable ‘both sides same thing’ environment, or worse, the situation the Vox article above suggested of ‘so who cares?’. We need constant, repeated reminders of just how much this is not fucking normal, in the face of the attempted normalization from the FNCs and Habermans around us.

I mentioned it yesterday but I’m very familiar with Chairman Perez since Montgomery County is across the river from me and he was Labor Secretary when I looked for work there. No doubt. She does and that’s why this is so frustrating. If we want to go after Sanders voters through the war of ideas, I’m fine with that but pandering to their conspiracy theories about the DNC stealing the nomination from Sanders even though despite it being a primary and there being less votes, Clinton actually got more votes than Sanders than she did from Trump. Look it up. She won the popular vote by 10+%. And before they complain about closed primaries, I’ll point out that Bernie heavily benefited from the actual undemocratic caucus system. You don’t get to complain about a party wanting its own voters to nominate its canddiates than push for more caucuses which is what his allies are doing.

Neither of which Trump has as skills. His idea of presidenting is declaring things will be done, then blaming others when they aren’t.

TBH I was worried that if Bernie were elected, he’d be forced into just doing a lot of Presidenting by EO and having a lot of his EOs reversed by challenges by Republican Attorney Generals. I really think a lot of Sanders diehards including a lot of people close to me just overlooked his weaknesses and were so happy to have someone who was unashamed to be a far lefty rather than a more moderate liberal like HRC and Obama though as some have pointed out, his record really isn’t that radical- he and HRC voted over 90% of the same together in office.

I do think you are being Tinfoil there in my personal opinion.

Seconded. I believe that the Russians put their finger on the scale during the primaries for him to stoke division on the left, maybe even steered some people towards his campaign, but I doubt Bernie knew it was happening, let alone actively participated in it. I’ll note, that it looks like they did some stoking of anti-Bernie sentiments on the Hillary side of things as well, so it’s not like any side is impervious to Russian meddling.

I would also like to note that while Bernie hasn’t exactly been helpful to the high profile Virginia races, he hasn’t seemed to take any actions that could be looked at as potentially harmful either. Brazile’s book on the other hand…While I doubt it will ultimately have an impact one way or the other in Virginia, the timing is just atrocious. She could have gotten the same right and left wing eyeballs by releasing it a week earlier or later without the potential to impact the Virginia and New Jersey elections.

A lot of people are worried about it impacting Virginia. I’m less so since Bernie really wasn’t popular here. I agree though. I think the Russians used his campaign to ferment chaos and division. I don’t see Sanders as a Russian agent. And I definitely agree that Bernie has been far from helpful here in Virginia. Someone who is supposedly as popular as he is with college students could be going to our college campuses near D.C. telling the kids why Northam is the better choice but he chooses those Town Halls that he thinks are his ticket in 2020. There’s a lot of legitimate criticism of Sanders to be made but I disagree that he’s a Russian asset.

After Charlottesville, More Counterprotesters Are Being Arrested Than White Supremacists

The “Unite the Right” rally on August 12 left one dead, 19 injured, and the city of Charlottesville in a state of turmoil and fear. In its aftermath, local leaders hurriedly vowed that justice would be served and order and safety restored. Most assumed this meant that the white supremacists who committed violent assaults on people of color, including the five men who violently beat a black man in a parking garage, would be punished. But instead, many of the people being arrested, including 10 new suspects the Charlottesville Police Department just announced they are seeking, are counter-protesters—and many of their arrests are happening solely on the basis of accusations being brought by white supremacists.

Yeah, I think I’m done for the day. It’s 10 am, and I already hate everything and everyone.

Honestly, instead of engaging in conspiracy bs, the Sanders campaign should have been proud of their accomplishments at the polls and used that as capital for their ideas and it does seem that the DNC platform committee was receptive to that. In my whole life I have never seen such and extreme sore winner pov from a President, or any officeholder in view.

Trump needs a fictional enemy, or he thinks he does. He has millions of very real ones, (political forces here) plus whole nation states that would kill him if possible. His Clinton fixation appears clinical at this point.

I can only hope. We’re going to be facing a lot of critical issues in the years to come. Some we already know i.e. NK, climate change, terrorism but others are uncertain too because well we can’t tell the future. He has no idea that he’s spuposed to be the President for all Americans. And of course, there’s the undetected (or unperceived) irony that the system of selecting Party candidates through primary elections was always, traditionally, a “left” issue, intended to give the general membership* more of a say (or at least approval) of the Party’s candidates, vs. the old system - mainly a slightly-altered version of the old “smoke-filled room” political-machine tradition - where Party “insiders” could more-easily manipulate the representation of delegates to isolate insurgents or other “outsiders”.

And let me say once again, Sanders lost by 11%. More than 3 million people- that’s more than several of Bernie’s Vermonts! preferred her over him. Anyhow. Here’s the thing. The SDs are NOT set in stone. Also, it’s natural why more Democratic elected officials would prefer Clinton. Complain about politics all you want but there’s a human element here. You don’t think those elected officials aren’t going to notice that HRC had campaigned for and raised money for their own candidacies while Sanders had until last year campaigned for no one other than himself? But here’s another more important thing. More registered Democrats preferred Clinton over Sanders and it wasn’t even close. You may not like the two party system, and I know its flaws but Sanders and Clinton were running for the DEMOCRATIC Party’s nomination so yeah I think Democrats should have had more of a say than some people who just wanted to use the Democratic Party as the country’s most viable left wing party to get the instant change they wanted without having to work to build a party. And another thing is Hillary and Bill have in fact campaigned for many of those who detract them now i.e. Sanders, Nina Turner, and Elizabeth Warren.

No, Trump wouldn’t want Pho. He’d have Vlad meet him at the Hanoi McDonalds. Come on, he’s a villain but he’s not a cultured villain and curse you for making me want Pho when the closest Pho place is a good drive away.

Well, just from reading a bit of today’s comments it looks like it is going to be a nutty Friday. Seems the Hillary running the Democratic National Party is the big story. Nothing sells like a Hillary story…but hey, America wants her to move on but won’t let her.

Being it is Friday, does anyone think we will get any more news about further indictments coming, like happened last week? Or, will Mueller hold off while Trump is out of the country? Who knows, announcing more indictments may cause Trump to set off some kind of world shit storm because he is all pissed off. Might be best to have him back in Washington for when he blows up.

re: #229 The Vicious Babushka

what in the utter fuck

Liz Crokin is a right-wing “reporter” and conspiracy theorist who is convinced that members of the government and critics of President Trump are part of a massive pedophile ring that attempted to kill Rep. Steve Scalise and was responsible for the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

Recently, Crokin appeared on “The Richie Allen Show,” to discuss the current Hollywood sexual abuse scandals. After nearly an hour of attempting to avoid the host’s persistent efforts to link the scandals to Jews, Crokin eventually stopped resisting the anti-Semitic undercurrent of the discussion and found a way to link the death of Rich to the supposed problem of “rampant” pedophilia within the Jewish community.

“Pedophilia is rampant within the Jewish religion, from what I’ve researched,” Crokin said. “I’ve also discovered that predators prey on children at Jewish camps. Now, it is interesting how pedophilia has been exposed within the Catholic church but there hasn’t been a huge scandal about the pedophilia that goes on within the Jewish community. We do know that the Jews control most of the mainstream media and Hollywood, so you’re probably on to something with that.”

I think Trump is too late to pull that move. At this point with the majority of Americans thinking he is up to no good, firing Mueller would make those people and more damn sure he is obstructing. If he was going to do that he should have done it a few months ago. Now he just has to sit there and take what is coming.

Bernie Sanders’ response over the next day will be a true indicator of what kind of person he really is. Does he shut down Dotard declare this is a nothingburger or does he side with Dotard and stir the pot.

He’ll do some lukewarm signal to his supporters and say he is sad this is how it worked out and he had hoped it would have been fair but it wasn’t.

He won’t even mention Hillary, that is his cover.

But he will explain how Bernie can change all that if we all follow him now to that Great New Deal in the Sky.

Portrait of Las Vegas gunman: A narcissist on a losing streak

Police say the man who shot and killed 58 people and injured more than 540 others in last month’s deadly massacre in Las Vegas was a status-obsessed narcissist who had lost a “significant amount of wealth” in the last two years, something authorities now believe may have been a “determining factor” in the Oct. 1 attack.

[…]

But Lombardo cautioned that investigators still have not settled on the precise reason for why Paddock suddenly unleashed a deadly barrage of bullets onto the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival from the windows of his 32nd floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino a month ago. Lombardo, as he has repeatedly warned in recent weeks, again said Paddock’s motive may never truly be understood.

Though ISIS claimed credit for the attack, Lombardo said investigators had found no links between Paddock and any terrorist groups and no evidence he had been radicalized. Paddock also did not appear to have any strong political beliefs — though, according to the sheriff, he had recently told an associate that he was happy with Donald Trump’s presidency “because the stock market was doing well.” “That’s the only thing we’ve seen referencing politics,” Lombardo said.

Pro-Trump group’s Fox News / Tomi Lahren fundraising page disappeared after Media Matters for America asked Fox about it

When Great America Alliance senior adviser Tomi Lahren was hired as a Fox News contributor, the pro-Trump group celebrated by creating a fundraising page prominently featuring Fox News’ logo and asking people for their email addresses and donations to celebrate her new job.

That fundraising page, created in late August, was recently taken down after Media Matters asked Fox News whether it approved the use of its logo.

Great America Alliance is a 501(c)(4) group that was started by Great America PAC in December 2016 after Donald Trump won the presidential election. According to Ed Rollins, a strategist for Great America PAC and a Fox News contributor, the PAC launched the group in its attempt to do “all we can to support and advocate” for Trump. As The Washington Post reported, both groups are also connected with breitbart.com’s Steve Bannon and his “political patrons, the wealthy Mercer family. The former White House strategist does not have a formal role with the organizations, but he helped install [former deputy White House political strategist Andy] Surabian as the top strategist at the advocacy group.”

Churches as havens for “dark money?”

And both Little and Hackney pointed to a larger issue that could arise in the absence of the Johnson Amendment: The influx of so-called “dark money” — political funds whose sources remain undisclosed — into churches. Churches are not required to publicize their large donors, meaning an individual could pump money into a church during an election cycle without ever having to make their donation public. The difference between a church and a Super PAC — neither of which are beholden to finance laws used to reign in campaign donations — would effectively vanish.

“You could have unlimited dark money flowing to a campaign if this gets passed, and there is nothing the IRS could do about it,” Little said. “They would be getting a double benefit.”

I went to my favorite bakery this morning, and the two women behind the counter were trying to figure out what to do with all the cut-in-half-and-wrapped oatmeal cookies they had left from yesterday from some cookie-shortage incident that they had now recovered from and had the whole cookies they needed for today. ‘Let’s throw them all in a bag and give them to the wench’—[sort of] was said before I knew what they talking about. I got my loaf of bread sliced, put it in the same bag, paid and threw a quarter in the tip jar as I always do.

It’s a problem I can handle, half a cookie at a time.

re: #408 meteor

Few have noticed that Donna Brazile’s “damning” document — the agreement between the Clinton campaign and the DNC — is not online. We have to rely purely on her word that the thing exists and that it reads the way she says it reads.

This absence is suspicious. Why no link to a pdf?

The same thought may have occurred to you that occurred to me: If this document is real, then why didn’t we see it when the Russians hacked the DNC? This morning, Josh Marshall published a fascinating find…

There is what at least appears to be a draft of the agreement in the Wikileaks Podesta cache of all places and from what I can tell it doesn’t include any of this.

By “this,” Marshall refers to the parts of the agreement that are not “kosher.” We know about these parts only from Brazile; we have no other evidence that this material exists. Everything in the document we have is, in fact, perfectly “kosher” and innocent.

Marshall goes on to offer these caveats:

Again, that version is just a draft. The final copy could definitely have included other codicils or side agreements. It’s possible I’m misinterpreting the document. I’d ask campaign types to take a look.

You can find the Wikileaks version of the agreement here. It’s a Word document. It doesn’t look like a draft to me. Absolutely nothing about it indicates a draft. It’s very detailed and well-formatted, with a codicil and spaces for signatures.

Moreover: The file is not labeled “DRAFT.” It is labeled “FINAL.”

It seems obvious that either the Russians or stateside Trump supporters found this FINAL agreement in the DNC cache and decided to use a falsified version to whip up some Hillary-hate just when things were looking bleak for Trump. By washing the falsifications through Brazile, they don’t have to show an actual document. She can function as the fall guy if and when the whole thing is shown to be bogus.

I’ve signed a few agreements in my time. I have never seen a draft agreement labeled “FINAL” — and neither, I’m pretty sure, have you. Lawyers are very careful about such things.

Let us suppose, hypothetically, that the Wikileaks document really did bear the label “DRAFT.” Have you ever seen so drastic a rewrite between the draft and the final version? Offhand, I cannot recall reading about a legal agreement which was drafted to say one thing and then massively re-worded to say something extremely different.

Why did Brazile go along with the plan? I don’t know, but I suspect that she had an encounter with some James-Spader-as-Raymond-Reddington type. I don’t know the carrot and I don’t know the stick, but I do know that nearly everyone can be manipulated and pressured.

As a result of Colin Kaepernick’s collusion grievance against the NFL, the league has asked Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Texans owner Bob McNair, and Patriots owner Bob Kraft to turn over their phones, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Those three might not be the only ones, either:

Others owners, teams and league officials also will be deposed, but those individuals have been confirmed for now.

Here’s my response to my conservative friend trying to both sides things and try to claim Trump was a Democrat ergo liberals accusing him of racism are hypocritical or whatever:

Actually (name) he’s changed party several times. I honestly don’t care that he used to be a Democrat. He is a racist. Anyhow, since you brought up identity politics. Here’s where we disagree. I think the right has been pushing identity politics and not the other way around. It’s been Republican legislatures that pushed transgendered bathroom bills that require people to use the bathroom of their birth gender. TG people aren’t simply men in skirts or women with beards. There’s plenty of transgendered men who look no different from you or me and you wouldn’t know that they were born female unless you asked them. And the state gay marriage bans that were overturned by Obergefell were in response to states telling consenting adults who they could and could not marry. As for the CSA stattue issue, I really would advise that you look at when these statues went up. They went up during the highest time during the revitalization of the KKK and beginning of the Civil Rights movement. They were meant in their sculptors and the elected officials dedicating them to “preserve the Anglo-Saxon race.” I know you and I disagree on a lot but I still consider you a great friend but I do think it’s more complicated than that. I agree with you about tribalizing too hence why you’ll always get my own personal thoughts based on my experiences, readings, and philosophy.
