Ha nah I don’t think so. I think they simply saw Twitter and the anonymity it has yet the ability to spread information to large amounts of people and took advantage of it. Same thing with Facebook and Facebook groups.

I think Putin implemented this no doubt but a young tech savvy aide suggested it. I don’t know how much Putin keeps up with social media innovation but that’s what I think. Manipulating social media is a much easier process than what the USSR woukd have done 30 years ago. That’s the paradox of Social Media. It connects us as I’m to you all now but it can be just as easily used to ferment division and discontent. All technology is like this but I think nothing defines it more than modern social media.

The founder’s of these social networks weren’t doing it for anything but cash. Did they leave big ass holes that could be exploited when they set up the original programming? Sure. They weren’t worried about that. They just wanted eyes on their content and ads, and the holes left openings for intrusion by bad actors.
Now, when the holes have already been exploited, and a bazillion fake accounts have invaded their platforms which click on their ads with automated click programs to make them money, they are being asked to clean up their sites. Why would they do that?
Here’s the thing. The folks who are really being ripped off are their advertisers, who see clicks as possible sales and, therefore money. Let’s say each click is worth a thousandth of a cent (blue sky figure, I have no idea). But if 20,000,000 million Drumpf Russian automated bots are programmed to click thirty ads a day on Twitter, with no intention of buying a damn thing, then Twitter’s business model collapses, because the people placing the ads will eventually twig to it.
They are stuck between a rock and a hard place until the ad buys to their site dry up. Then they will have to rework a business model that makes clicks worth the advertisers time, and that means getting rid of the bots.
It’s really up to the people that buy ads on these social networks to say “Hey! We’re getting screwed here! You aren’t really giving us value for what we paid for! 90% of our clicks, that we thought were potential customers, are just Russian bots! We’re done on this platform.”
The new Cyber Capitalism. Should be fun to watch.

When you’re working on models, you have them mounted on plain plastic bases.
One of the last things you do is put turfing on the base, using a mixture of water, woodglue and liquid dish soap, and whatever material you use for the base, in this case, a desert stone mix.
For an urban environment, I chose the slate so it looks like broken concrete and rubble.

Yeah, the Russian Mob has a major presence all along the Eastern Seaboard. I’m sure the Five Families still have a strong presence, but it’s more hidden now. Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. The GOP tax plan is a dud, and the Senate will basically be starting from scratch because the plan is unsustainable and the CBO would fail it with extreme prejudice.
The GOP doesn’t do math, and they are again failing in the same ways they did with the Trumpcare fiasco. They push massive cuts for the rich, and screw everyone else, and the debt run up on this shows that they aren’t about fiscal responsibility but about shifting the burdens from the rich to everyone else.
Those burdens are direct and indirect. The GOP would use the debt as a demand to slash spending, which would be a second hit on the rest of the nation. All the while, rich folks see all the benefits and none of the burdens.
The passthrough scheme is essentially the Kansas disaster writ large. Passthrough tax rate cut to 20% means that corporations and millionaires like Trump could structure their businesses in a way that they’d pay less than anyone in the middle class.
That’s the point of the passthrough entity - the income passes through to the individual or corporate entity owner who pays tax at their income tax rate bracket.
Trump who if truly a billionaire with income to match would be paying 39.6% before deductions, would find themselves with nearly a 50% cut on passthrough income down to 20% before deductions.
Meanwhile, someone in the middle class would be paying 25% with limited deductions because the GOP eliminated the ones most likely to be useful to them.

If we want to go after Sanders voters through the war of ideas, I’m fine with that but pandering to their conspiracy theories about the DNC stealing the nomination from Sanders even though despite it being a primary and there being less votes, Clinton actually got more votes than Sanders than she did from Trump. Look it up. She won the popular vote by 10+%. And before they complain about closed primaries, I’ll point out that Bernie heavily benefited from the actual undemocratic caucus system. You don’t get to complain about a party wanting its own voters to nominate its canddiates than push for more caucuses which is what his allies are doing.

TBH I was worried that if Bernie were elected, he’d be forced into just doing a lot of Presidenting by EO and having a lot of his EOs reversed by challenges by Republican Attorney Generals. A lot of people are worried about it impacting Virginia. I’m less so since Bernie really wasn’t popular here. I agree though. I think the Russians used his campaign to ferment chaos and division. I don’t see Sanders as a Russian agent. And I definitely agree that Bernie has been far from helpful here in Virginia. Someone who is supposedly as popular as he is with college students could be going to our college campuses near D.C. telling the kids why Northam is the better choice but he chooses those Town Halls that he thinks are his ticket in 2020. And they could have switched to Dem for Bernie but chose not to. She beat him by 11%. I’m sorry but this wasn’t a rigging. This was a solid win. Honestly, instead of engaging in conspiracy bs, the Sanders campaign should have been proud of their accomplishments at the polls and used that as capital for their ideas and it does seem that the DNC platform committee was receptive to that. But a lot of them were angry when Sanders wasn’t nominated. I’m sorry but Bernie’s not the future. He honestly never was.

When I explained the caucus system to my brother, a casual Sanders supporter, he hated the idea. It’s actually part of why he didn’t vote. He’s got a family, full time job, and is attending school. I really much prefer primaries to caucuses.
And of course, there’s the undetected (or unperceived) irony that the system of selecting Party candidates through primary elections was always, traditionally, a “left” issue, intended to give the general membership* more of a say (or at least approval) of the Party’s candidates, vs. the old system - mainly a slightly-altered version of the old “smoke-filled room” political-machine tradition - where Party “insiders” could more-easily manipulate the representation of delegates to isolate insurgents or other “outsiders”.

When I was in grad school, we had a beer and pizza deck party once month at school and the pizza always came from Papa John’s because it was close and cheap. And once a month I always had lower GI issues after said party. I haven’t had their shitty excuse for pizza in over 15 years and never will again. Interestingly, Pizza Hut is trying to get back into the Czech market. They were here for awhile - I remember there was a Pizza Hut in central Prague for a few years, but it closed sometime around 2004 or thereabouts.

Remember back when Pence went to Chili’s, or Applebee’s, of whatever restaurant he went to after being picked as VP and people complained about him going to that restaurant instead of one of the infinitely better restaurants in NYC? Remember back when Pence went to Chili’s, or Applebee’s, of whatever restaurant he went to after being picked as VP and people complained about him going to that restaurant instead of one of the infinitely better restaurants in NYC? I concluded that he went there because it’s a safe, known choice. Well, my wife is one of those safe, known choice types of people, so we eat Pizza Hut. My son and I like to experiment when it comes to food, not her. Not everyone is like us here.
Related to food, the sushi stand at the Kroger in my town produces some great sushi.

Few have noticed that Donna Brazile’s “damning” document — the agreement between the Clinton campaign and the DNC — is not online. We have to rely purely on her word that the thing exists and that it reads the way she says it reads.

The same thought may have occurred to you that occurred to me: If this document is real, then why didn’t we see it when the Russians hacked the DNC? This morning, Josh Marshall published a fascinating find…
There is what at least appears to be a draft of the agreement in the Wikileaks Podesta cache of all places and from what I can tell it doesn’t include any of this.
By “this,” Marshall refers to the parts of the agreement that are not “kosher.” We know about these parts only from Brazile; we have no other evidence that this material exists. Everything in the document we have is, in fact, perfectly “kosher” and innocent.
Marshall goes on to offer these caveats:
Again, that version is just a draft. The final copy could definitely have included other codicils or side agreements. It’s possible I’m misinterpreting the document. I’d ask campaign types to take a look.
You can find the Wikileaks version of the agreement here. It’s a Word document. It doesn’t look like a draft to me. Absolutely nothing about it indicates a draft. It’s very detailed and well-formatted, with a codicil and spaces for signatures.
Moreover: The file is not labeled “DRAFT.” It is labeled “FINAL.”
It seems obvious that either the Russians or stateside Trump supporters found this FINAL agreement in the DNC cache and decided to use a falsified version to whip up some Hillary-hate just when things were looking bleak for Trump. By washing the falsifications through Brazile, they don’t have to show an actual document. She can function as the fall guy if and when the whole thing is shown to be bogus.
I’ve signed a few agreements in my time. I have never seen a draft agreement labeled “FINAL” — and neither, I’m pretty sure, have you. Lawyers are very careful about such things.
Let us suppose, hypothetically, that the Wikileaks document really did bear the label “DRAFT.” Have you ever seen so drastic a rewrite between the draft and the final version? Offhand, I cannot recall reading about a legal agreement which was drafted to say one thing and then massively re-worded to say something extremely different.
Why did Brazile go along with the plan? I don’t know, but I suspect that she had an encounter with some James-Spader-as-Raymond-Reddington type. I don’t know the carrot and I don’t know the stick, but I do know that nearly everyone can be manipulated and pressured.

I think the right has been pushing identity politics and not the other way around. It’s been Republican legislatures that pushed transgendered bathroom bills that require people to use the bathroom of their birth gender. TG people aren’t simply men in skirts or women with beards. There’s plenty of transgendered men who look no different from you or me and you wouldn’t know that they were born female unless you asked them. And the state gay marriage bans that were overturned by Obergefell were in response to states telling consenting adults who they could and could not marry. As for the CSA stattue issue, I really would advise that you look at when these statues went up. They went up during the highest time during the revitalization of the KKK and beginning of the Civil Rights movement. They were meant in their sculptors and the elected officials dedicating them to “preserve the Anglo-Saxon race.” I know you and I disagree on a lot but I still consider you a great friend but I do think it’s more complicated than that. I agree with you about tribalizing too hence why you’ll always get my own personal thoughts based on my experiences, readings, and philosophy.
