Verse
I took off and I’m here to stay
I love the view from above the grey
I feel invincible
I can do anything
my now is wonderful
I love all that it brings

Chorus
I can’t tell if I’m wrong
I can’t tell if I’m right
what I’m learned in my life
must be clouding my vision
I can’t tell if I’m wrong
I can’t tell if I’m right
but I know that comes up
must come down

Pre-Chorus
after all the laughs, the fun
after all the joy, the sun
prepare for the cries, the pain
that often comes with the rain
everyone gets their turn
whether for bath or burn
I hope you enjoyed the ride
as soon as you reach the sky
know that the next stop is the ground

Verse
I can’t believe I’m still moving higher
I have more power
I’m on fire
I’m swimming in bliss
floating among angels
moments like these are real fairy tales

Pre-Chorus
Chorus

Liverpool 2-West Ham 0, early in the second half. I’m going to watch the end of the game, then take a nap. The vents in my room are working for the first time in 20 years. There’s a nice breeze. I like Saturdays.

I had a guy in here this morning who I haven’t seen for 17 years. He moved to Idaho to take care of his mom, and now he’s back. He had stories to tell for an hour and a half. Then some other customers came in, and he politely left. He has a different bike than the one he used to ride around here (and stories to go with it) but he still has the old one. He was told a brass bushing could be made to make the (full-suspension) frame work again, so he hung on to it. It’s the one he was on when he got a for-real snake bite flat. That’s one of his old stories.

saving everyone a click, here’s the entire thing:

KABUL (Reuters) - A U.S. service member was killed in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, the United States military said, without giving details of his identity or the circumstances of his death.

A statement from U.S. Forces Afghanistan Command in Kabul said the service member had died of wounds sustained during operations in Logar, the eastern province where another service member was killed last week after a helicopter crash.

This is not a well woman. I mean it. Brazile’s work, or its published excerpts, shows a combination of “My Immortal”- level writing and delusions of grandeur (and adequacy). Bad Sandbagger fanfic.

Key word being “ignored.” The misinformation is out there now. It’s an article of faith for the right and for the Bros, and furthermore the 1/3 or so of us who just don’t pay attention to what’s happening will always have the vague recollection of “Hmm didn’t I hear something about Hillary and the DNC rigging things to screw over Bernie?” File it alongside “Hmm I don’t know exactly what happened with the emails but I think it must’ve been bad.”

FFS, the truth doesn’t matter anymore.

Louisiana update: The stats are up for the first day of early voting and the news is… not great. White voters made up 73.4% of first-day voters, which is slightly more than the 71.4% of early voters from the first round (although this number generally drops as early voting continues). New Orleans turnout is down as a share of statewide turnout from the first round, and overall turnout is slightly up from the first-round pace, neither of which are good news for Edwards.

Still, only 16,357 voters have voted so far, barely half of one percent of the state total. Tell any LA Democrats you know to please give Edwards a try. He’s a bad campaigner, but a good man.

Today was a good canvassing day. No one mentioned Brazile or the DNC. Oh and I shook hands with Virginia’s First Lady, our current & our current and future Attorney General Mark Herring was there too as was a candidate for the House of Delegates. I did encounter a Republican volunteer who was actually pleasant.

Statewide, the Treasurer position has relatively little direct responsibility even though it’s often been a high-visibility role (two of our last three full-time treasurers, Mary Landrieu and John N. Kennedy, were later elected US Senators). Most of our local elections for the year were dealt with last month, and the New Orleans mayoral race has gotten down and dirty.

When somebody can assemble a variety of information sources—actual events, anecdotes, speculation in various public media—into a narrative that’s self-serving, they’re less likely to be disassociating or delusional than engaged in a mixture of confabulation and outright lies to validate themselves and/or draw sympathy. And people do that without having any pathology at all, because we’re shit, our memories are shit, we’re not inherently rational, and damage to the ego cause intense distress and pain.

Self-serving bullshitting and redirecting blame (“I saw it was all wrong”) could be narcissism, but it could also just be regular old ass-covering and/or thirst for attention and money.

…but add in that this is a book and its related ad campaign. Misdirection and unsubstantiated claims are part of the sell, consequences be damned, because prurience and fast takes drive the consumption market. And chances are pretty good it’s a book written with a specific audience in mind, so…frame things in a way that sells. Porn that’s niche enough to have enthusiasts but not so outre you weird out casual buyers.

Occam’s Razor applied to mental illness: unless you know the person and have seen a long-term pattern, their new hot mess is less likely to be the kind of extreme mental illness that is very visible, and more likely to be shitty human habits at slightly higher volume.

There is a tiny bit of truth behind this “The air is too clean” statement: kids need natural irritants, like dust, pollen or spores to get them used to such things and help strengthen their immune system, but not necessarily industrial pollutants.

Every day of the Trump administration is adding at least a year to the time it will take to recover and straighten out the damage to our nation’s economy, health, legal and social system…

There isn’t enough truth to it to make that statement. That’s a statement with no evidence behind it whatsoever. An immune system does benefit from some presenting antigens, but that doesn’t have anything to do with air quality.

re: #51 Backwoods_Sleuth

This is some weird attempt to associate immunity with alveolar irritation. Which is bullshit.

Our immune system evolved to respond to ‘stuff’. In the absence of something to respond to (e.g., in a sterile/hyper clean environment) the immune system will respond and make antigen to things it shouldn’t, hence the idea the exposure to common dirt and other things will help create a strong and properly reacting immune system.

Lung alveoli did not evolve in the presence of shit in the air all the time and don’t have a ready mechanism to get rid of lots of irritants. The result is a negative impact on lung health and the possible deveopment of a lung oriented syndrome. Never good.

That talking point is complete crap and scientifically illiterate and irresponsible.

O do I hate these guys and how they love to sound “science-like” in a way that suggests you’re an asshole if you don’t believe that the human body and spirit are miraculous enough to make inhaling quartz powder no big deal. It’s always this fake optimism—“we’ll come out strong is there’s more radioactive cesium is the water…or can’t you hack it.”

Your immune system can’t fucking “adapt” to tar or ash like it can pollen or dander, because tar and ash are only superficially one substance: they’re a fucking smoothie of organic molecules looking to react with other organic molecules on the finest level (which is fucking bad)—smaller than the kind of assemblies immune systems target—but also because they’re literally just particle matter that obstruct alveoli and are way too big to just be defeated.

Hence emphysema in all its fucking forms.

Donna is nuts, like Rosanne Barr nuts. She’s experiencing a dissociative meltdown, reality & her are moving in opposite directions. Her publisher seems to be exploiting her sickness for a quick cash grab but it’s pretty clear that Donna is sick and sadly probably won’t get the help she so desperately needs.

I wonder if she’s deep in debt/overextended and needed to do something drastic to come up with some fast cash. Of course, that doesn’t forgive any of this BS.

My gossipy neighbor told me this morning that 5 minutes a day walking your dog will boost the dog’s immune system to a longer life. I prefer that line of gossip to all her talk about that neighbor boy who is destined for no good for all her reasons which are no good. And she should stick to her own (her dog) when it comes to gossiping with the neighbor.

Even so, this kind of purge (which is what it sounds like) seems a little extreme for KSA: which, unless I’m misremembering things, used to like to keep their “game of thrones” stuff quiet and private. And piecemeal: Sounds like MBS is looking to seriously clean house… (the House of Saud, that is)

Still in pieces. It’s been hours. I’m going to have to drag it in when I close. Or take it around the block and throw it in the recycling. Ooooh, that contains appropriateness.

Its line of succession fascinates the hell out of me.

Its line of succession is basically a power struggle. The sons of Ibn Saud have been passing the crown around depending on who is in power. The interesting thing is that the current named crown prince is a grandson. He would be the first grandson of Ibn Saud to become king. Given the number of sons Ibn Saud had (something like 3 dozen lived to adulthood), it wouldn’t surprise me to learn there are well over 100 princely grandsons. Apparently Alwaleed bin Talal (one of the princes supposedly arrested) is one of those grandsons.

The best pizza place in St. Paul, Savoy, recently closed after the death of the owner. There are a couple of smaller take-out/delivery versions of Savoy, but none of them are anywhere near my neighborhood.

I have to wonder what the BernieBros told Brazile to stroke her ego or promised her to cause her to stick a shiv into the DNC and also into Hillary, a person I’m sure that considered Brazile to be at least a loyal ally for decades (and, maybe even a friend, though I don’t know how close they are/were, TBH).

Although, it may be as simple as selling out everyone and everything for that book and speaking circuit cash; apparently, Brazile decided that “taking care of #1” also meant “fuck over your allies, your party, and your country” in order to get it.

Then I wound up having to visit the dentist four times and they convinced me that I need a good electric toothbrush so I just ordered that on Amazon. Also needed to get new all season tires for the car so I got that done today because we’ve already been getting snow. Got a front end alignment as part of the tire replacement. It’s been pouring on my rainy day fund.

I shouldn’t have bought that new turntable last summer. This is going to be a very cheap Christmas.

Manafort proposes $12.5 million bail package
Assets to be pledged include Trump Tower apartment.

Currently he’s under house arrest and has an ankle bracelet.

Interestingly, the package doesn’t include (so far as I can tell) the brownstone discussed in the initial filing, the one he bought with money (if I remember correctly) that was funneled through Cyprus that he then turned around and used as collateral on a loan.

If it were *me*, I’d say, “keep him locked up.” But I’m not a federal judge.

I have to wonder what the BernieBros told Brazile to stroke her ego or promised her to cause her to stick a shiv into the DNC and also into Hillary, a person I’m sure considered Brazile to be at least a loyal ally for decades (and, maybe even a friend, though I don’t know how close they are/were, TBH).

Although, it may be as simple as selling out everyone and everything for that book and speaking circuit cash.

I just checked to see what Hillary said about Brazile in her book—the only mention was when she talked about the convention and hoping it would boost her momentum—

Instead we were now dealing with a divided party and distracted press corp. Democratic leaders, especially Congresswoman Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Reverend Leah Daughtry, and Donna Brazile, helped bring order to the chaos.

No diss—no ass-kissing, but nothing negative about Brazile.

I always marvel at these wingnuts who think they’re making a great argument when they try to claim any criticism of a black person is automatically racist, ignoring all the context and history of true racism and reducing it to a meaningless insult. People who do this are essentially very simple-minded creatures, who never matured past the “I know you are but what am I?” level of debating their viewpoints.

The thing of it is, we always say that their criticisms of black people are racist… but that’s because they are. They can’t make valid criticisms of women or people of color, they just lash out and scream and gibber. But when we make rational (if impassioned) arguments, they think it’s funny and effective to apply the tactics of a six-year-old child in order to frustrate their opponents.

That’s right. I’d forgotten.

Trump brags about being a master of managing debt, but in fact he only succeeded because he found buyers for his failed ventures. IIRC, he bought the Plaza for a lot more than Al-Waleed bought it for.

re: #63 The Ghost of a Flea

Excellent post, agreed. IMO Donna is at the end of her career with the DNC/Democrats, especially with her having never really ever led a winning campaign. She always talked a good game about being a leader but IMO she’s just not one. One possibility is that she may be jumping on the Bernie gravy train, hoping to milk a new crowd by feeding them their preconceived notions about the DNC and Hillary. In addition, she may be angling for a spot as a ‘Democrat’ on Fox as this crap she’s spewing in her book is right up their alley. Either way, this is about her staying relevant, somewhere. Anywhere. The Seth Rich crap she’s on about now really makes me believe she’s really aiming for a spot at Fox.

I saw her a lot on CNN after Gore lost and I didn’t care for her then as she came across as self-serving in her commentary. Same with MSNBC.

For me, nothing’s really changed about her except the date.
