In this era of relative peace, people have a hard time conceiving of states like Russia as “hostile”. They’re not at open war with us, and the Cold War is over too, so can’t we just be friends? The thing is, the Russians still don’t like us because we won the damn Cold War. They were left to play catch-up and have been failing, and they are doing their damnedest to sabotage us so they can take our place. That is a hostile state, regardless of if they’re openly fighting us.

It’s in tune with the “deals” with China that his supporters are playing up: The details are vague, what we know isn’t all that exciting, and odds are we got screwed royally because Xi knew how to distract Donny with shiny trinkets. The idea that he’s prepared to sell us out to Moscow so he and Vlad can be golfing buddies is not that far-fetched.

A tweet posted by Teresa Jones on Friday slams the U.S. Senate candidate by stating information she says she knows from her time working with Moore as a Deputy District Attorney in Gadsden.

“As a Deputy DA in Gadsden when Roy Moore was there, it was common knowledge about Roy’s propensity for teenage girls. I’m appalled that these women are being skewered for the truth,” she wrote.

Jones told CNN on Saturday Moore often went to high school events and to other local hangouts. “It was common knowledge that Roy dated high school girls, everyone we knew thought it was weird…We wondered why someone his age would hang out at high school football games and the mall…”

She also told the network that co-workers thought the situation was odd, but no one confronted him about it. “You really wouldn’t say anything to someone like that,” she said.

The joys of dealing with large files:

1) Microsoft is crap. Every once in awhile I think they do a good thing, but then I try to use their software and I’m reminded of how f*cked up they can be.

In this case it’s a file too large for Excel to import. But the size limits of Excel are well known. But try to find what exactly the online version of Excel can or cannot do. Why do I have to resort to using Google to try and find out what Microsoft software can or cannot do? Why can’t Microsoft have online help that actually helps?

2) Apple: Sigh… Numbers is slick but it’s very limited capability in regards to large files is also well known. Funny thing is that in iCloud the online Numbers can recognize a spreadsheet is a spreadsheet, but won’t tell you it’s too big until it spends a couple of minutes trying.

3) Google: Yeah, freebie online tools up the wazoo, but as nifty as some of them are as freebies, they too are very limited in size capabilities.

So now I’ve got to roll my own quick and dirty software to handle data files of a couple of hundred megabytes each.

I’ve spent most of the last two days trying to run down why, exactly, my database is locking one of its tables - and only one of its tables - in a decidedly un-standard fashion during every single insert or update to that table. I thought his dad was bigoted and a hypocrite but I never doubted his belief and the idea that in his own twisted way, he thought he was serving Christ. Franklin? I’d bet that in his heart he is without any faith at all and is out for as much power and money as he can accrue to himself. re: #58 William Lewis

If you think that’s some you should check this out:

One: Roy Moore did not get along with his colleagues in law school or on the Supreme Court. The arguments were not over Christianity.

In law school, the arguments arose from what Disraeli called “falling into a deep groove of illogic and being helpless to allow reason to pull you out.” If Moore’s analysis of a case was tantamount to thinking 1 + 1 = 3, and his classmates reasoned otherwise, there was no backing down by Moore. The class was willing to fight to the death against illogic that no legal mind but one in America would espouse.

Moore never won one argument, and the debates got ugly and personal. The result: gone was the fulfillment a teacher hopes for in the still peace of logic and learning. I had no choice but to abandon the Socratic method of class participation in favor of the lecture mode because of one student: Roy Moore.

And there’s more of Moore….

So, for the guitar players, I was in my hometown for the week for training for the postal job. I brought my Casino Coupe along and then stopped in at the local guitar shop.

They had a new Fender 65 reissue Princeton Reverb on the floor.

OMFG. I have never loved the sound of an amp like this one before. I’ve used Silverface PR’s and always wanted one but this was a whole different creature, especially doing odd things like cranking it to 10 and using powerchords. Even with the 2 6V6 breaking up there was still that freaking Princeton chime in the sound. Metal/Pop Punk with that chime is an amazingly different thing - makes you want major keys and sunny chord progressions

Even simply doing the things it’s supposed to be used for at lower volumes, it was a revelation to hear two P90 pickups on a fully hollow body guitar. Surf punk heaven. “Walk Don’t Run” was a joy to play, though I probably had the spring reverb tank cranked higher than most people would enjoy :D

I’ve always loved the Princeton sound I knew before but this 65 was that and then some. $1000 so it isn’t going to come to my house soon, but I hope I can get one someday.

That is so cool!

I wouldn’t return to that grim time for anything but they did have a glorious sense of style.

The oddest thing! There is a junco hanging on my window screen, not a foot from where I type. I opened the curtains and he just looks at me. Flutters away, hovers and comes back.

That’s a new one! Had the usual yard full of deer, possums and raccoons when I got home after dark with groceries, but now a loving junco.

Have I said lately how much I hate it being dark so early???

Alabama state law gives the governor broad authority to set the date of special elections, NYT reports Gov. Kay Ivey may order a new date for the election—sometime early next year—giving Republicans time to ease Roy Moore from the race

If you look at Jack Posobiec’s Twitter timeline, it’s unreal. This guy is tweeting hundreds of hate-tweets every single day, every few minutes, sometimes only seconds apart. There’s something seriously weird going on here.

More than an individual human could manage?

Is he a team of people, or a bot with multiple programmers?

Republican senators and their advisers, in a flurry of phone calls, emails and text messages, discussed fielding a write-in candidate, pushing Alabama’s governor to delay the Dec. 12 special election or even not seating Mr. Moore at all should he be elected. In an interview, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, declined to say whether he would agree to seat Mr. Moore should he win. Mr. McConnell deferred a question about a possible write-in campaign by Senator Luther Strange, the current occupant of the seat, to Mr. Strange.

Now just imagine the fits that Republicans would have thrown if the Massachusettes Senate Race in 2010 had been manipulated this way by Democrats to delay Scott Brown’s seating…

Republicans would have let all hell break loose!

Democrats: At least we don’t promote pedophiles.

“Why won’t Democrats run on something other than being anti-Republican?” No one had better say for a long time.
