Juanita Jean weighs in on Bryan Fischer’s Christian take on the allegations against Roy Moore.

I am certain that most of you know Bryan Fischer of American Family Radio. He’s a radio evangelist and a big supporter of Roy Moore in Alabama.

Fisher has been defending Moore by claiming that he can only be judged by “Biblical Standards” that there must be more than one witness to a crime.

Well, as other women began coming forward, people thought Fischer would admit that Moore should be judged. But, no. Here’s how that works.

“The Bible is very, very clear that you never condemn anybody on the testimony of one witness,” Fischer said. “If there is a crime that has been committed and you only have one witness, you do not convict on that basis. Now what we’ve got here is four people that claim a crime of some kind, or something inappropriate happened, but in each case, there is only one witness. We don’t have two witnesses to any of these accusations to this point, which means from a standpoint of biblical justice, we have to hold our fire, we have to withhold our judgment, we have to wait and see if more information comes out.”

So, under these standards, the only rapes that could be tried are those that are done in front of audiences.

I mean, why don’t Fischer just go ahead and admit he’s a pervert, too?

Thank you for continuing to bring us these wonderful musical pieces, Mr. Johnson.

Aside from political and social commentary here, I have learned a great deal about music and musicians I’ve never seen or heard before.

The Washington Post has fought off much more substantial suits than this (and aside from that, truth is an absolute defence against slander or libel if you have the money and evidence to back you).

I seriously doubt the Post would have opened themselves up to a libel suit on something like this. Moreover, Cocktober is traditional in US politics (though not usually in November).

I wandered over to Freeperville and the vast majority of that fever swamp’s denizens were most unhappy with Lumpy and his ‘ultimatum’ to Moore.

Good to see how they’ll rally around a child molester just because he’s a Republican after they howled for weeks about Weinstein since he’s a Democrat. Hypocrisy is so real.

10
Kragar  Nov 15, 2017 • 1:20:07am

A year ago, Democrats threw $200,000 and a first-tier candidate at Senate District 37, trying to unseat incumbent Republican Dan Newberry.

They lost the conservative west Tulsa County district by 15 percentage points.

This year, with Newberry leaving the Senate, Democrats entered a lightly funded, little-known 26-year-old lesbian.

She won by 31 votes.

Allison Ikley-Freeman’s victory Tuesday over Republican Brian O’Hara continued a string of Democratic special election upsets over the past two years. It gives Democrats three special election victories in predominantly Republican districts in the Tulsa area in the past two years, including two this year.

The whole point of that particular media feeding frenzy was to be able to write “Clinton supporter and donor Harvey Weinstein….” at the start of every article about his sexual misconduct.

Something scientifical to start your day:

14
wheat-dogg  Nov 15, 2017 • 2:29:37am

Some more science: Doggerland. nationalgeographic.org

Things aren’t always what they seem on the surface. Looking at the area between mainland Europe and the eastern coast of Great Britain, you probably wouldn’t guess it had been anything other than a great expanse of ocean water. But roughly 12,000 years ago, as the last major ice age was reaching its end, the area was very different. Instead of the North Sea, the area was a series of gently sloping hills, marshland, heavily wooded valleys, and swampy lagoons: Doggerland.

Rising sea levels from global warming will result in similar changes in landmass.

Hey seeing you and the reminder about hurricanes triggered a thought. I finally heard about my friend on Vieques. Not directly but through other friends.

She said the island is a total disaster, but she is staying to help out at the doggie shelter and her own dogs. She does some work at some kind of a resort on the other side of the mountain where she stays. If I remember correctly, the guy who designed it made it hurricane proof. I guess it stood the test. Also, her communications are a mess. I’m just glad she is okay. She is a tough gal.

Sorry for the late reply.

I’m very glad she’s fine! The east coast was one of the areas hardest hit by María.

If you read this story, there are links to several others just like it.

Man, I am giving up on society. Have you noticed that some television shows have literally no decent person on them (How To Get Away With Murder, for example. We watched the first four episodes in the first season and both thought, “Why do we care about these people? They are horrible, every last one.”)? I am seeing this more and more, it is definitely trending in the direction of not a single character having a redeeming factor. It’s like television is projecting that everyone is or should be a raging asshole.

Nah. Shep’s useful to Fox News as bait for the trap.
1. Normal person stumbles across Shep segment, watches and thinks, “This guy is a pretty decent, straight forward journalist. Maybe all the things I have heard about Fox News being biased are wrong.” Then, one of the blithering foxbots comes on and while the blinding pain of the idiocy drives the person to change the channel, permanent damage is still done to that individual’s intelligence and logic centers.
2. Normal person stumbles upon Shep again and due to a combination of the damage from step one and memory supression doesn’t immediately change the channel until once again confronted by the foxbot.
3. This continues until the point where the person is so damaged that one day they keep watching even once the foxbot comes on.
4. Under repeated and sustained exposure to the foxbots, the normal person eventually devolves into a complete foxbot themselves.
5. The devolution is complete when they turn on Fox News, see Shep and think, “Not this libtard again. I hope he finishes soon so I can watch the real news.”

Whut???

I heard a report on the Today show the GOP is looking to have a major player write-in campaign for Senator in Alabama to try to hold down Roy Moore.

Excellent for the Democrats if they do it.

Guess the major player.

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III

Whut???

Oh yeah, as far as seating Roy Moore should he win. I heard last night that it is law that a duly elected candidate must be seated, the party or anyone else cannot prevent it. Then they discussed if you don’t like the guy, as soon as he sworn in you take action to have then removed.

But what is up with Sessions? Is Mitch The Turtleman working to save Jeffy’s career and trying to get him out of the Trumpville White House where he can have a true GOP loyalist in a Senate seat.

I hope this all blows up in the faces of all of them. Lose to a Democrat, piss off Trump over Sessions and maybe Donny fires him and Sessions is out of a political career. This election is going to be real interesting to see how anything plays out.

Getting Sessions to quit would theoretically allow Trump to get someone in there to fire Mueller. I suspect, though, that if they try, so many things are going to be released impeachment would be over before the nomination process is complete.

But, I just don’t see Sessions doing it. He’s getting to do a lot of damage right now, more than he could as Senator, and I think he really wants to be around to fuck with elections next year.

I don’t know enough TV history to be able to say if it was the first, or even the trend setter, but the major characters, and a whole lot of side characters, weren’t exactly the kind of people you’d put up with all the time.

And I only watched a few episodes as well. It just wasn’t my thing.

Alabama skulduggery might be even deeper. In one scenario, Luther Strange gives up his Senate seat, Sessions resigns from AG, Gov Ivey appoints Sessions to finish Strange’s term (which he got by filling in for Sessions), then Ivey cancels the election.

Even AL Republicans don’t know how much of this is legal, but right now they are making and interpreting the law.

Someone over at DK did the analysis of that. Legally, according to them, it wouldn’t fly because the election’s already under way since they’ve already had primaries. And Strange giving up his seat wouldn’t trigger anything new since he’s not the official office holder, but just a placeholder. The seat is still open.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. So, we know there was another mass shooting yesterday out in California (I know, it’s hard to keep the mass shootings straight when they occur like clockwork), but it appears that Trump didn’t know it occurred. Rather, he tweeted about the last mass shooting - the one at the church in California.

Trump simply can’t keep up with the news, and his apologists are working overtime on this. He conflates mass shootings and doesn’t pay attention to anything except what drivel is being run on Fox.

Speaking of which, he claimed he was forced to watch CNN while in the Philippines. That’s odd, since there’s this thing known as a remote control that allows a user to change the channel. My guess is that Trump caught Shep Smith demolishing Fox and Friends and Hannity’s pet conspiracy theory about the Uranium One deal and thought he was stuck on CNN.

Elsewhere in the world, everyone is laughing or ignoring Trump, and our State Dept simply is incapable of doing its job because Trump and Tillerson have hogtied it and sabotaged its function. That means don’t expect a US response to the ongoing events in Zimbabwe:

The military launched a coup and have Mugabe in custody. Mugabe has always been worse than awful, but the coup leaders aren’t any better.

I think that’s what happened last week when I started seeing videos posted in my timeline that I didn’t have anything to do with…

While I am not a big fan of letting some app post on my behalf, I might give that up, but there is no freaking way in hell I am going to allow them to see DMs, follow people on my behalf (all of a sudden, there is an influx of Nazi follows? Nope.) or update my profile.

There are numerous analytics sites I wanted to use but their agreement terms were things I couldn’t fathom.

Not sure how new that is; remember “The Shield”? Vile people, every last one of them. And yet, I loved that show. Their depravity was fascinating.

I loved that show. The entire cast was pretty much perfect.

Foreshadowed a lot of what ‘Sons of Anarchy’ came to be, as well.

The sad part, as per my #80, is that:

As of 2017, the full extent of Rampart corruption is not known, and several rape, murder and robbery investigations involving Rampart officers remain unsolved

And we’ll probably never know the full extent. It’s arguably one of the worst police corruption scandals in Los Angeles history.

The industry is just giving the viewers what they want.
Reality TV has shown that America like vile, spoiled, selfish, backstabbing pieces of crap.

Yes. Art always reflects real life. It is not always meant to be pretty. In fact throughout history the arts (all of them) record things that History books often fudge.

Add in the internet comment sections, forums, blogs (remember the ol’ term “flame wars”) where people can let their hate flow freely and good behavior is out the door.

How else do we end up with Trump if there was not a lot of hate going on now.

With Beauregard back in the Senate Trump can appoint Roy Moore to be AG. Everybody wins!

University could lose millions from “unethical” research backed by Peter Thiel

Questionable herpes vaccine research backed by tech heavyweight Peter Thiel may have jeopardized $15 million in federal research funding to Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. That’s according to documents obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request by The State Journal Register.

In August, Kaiser Health News reported that Thiel and other conservative investors had contributed $7 million for the live-but-weakened herpes virus vaccine, developed by the late SIU researcher William Halford. The investments came after Halford and his private company, Rational Vaccines, had begun conducting small clinical trials in the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis. With the off-shore location, Rational Vaccines’ trial skirted federal regulations and standard safety protocols for human trials, including having approval and oversight from an institutional review board (IRB).

Experts were quick to call the unapproved trial “patently unethical,” and researchers rejected the data from publication, calling the handling of safety issues “reckless.” The government of St. Kitts opened an investigation into the trial and reported that health authorities there had been kept in the dark.

Yet the regulatory evasion may have been key to drawing interest from the conservative backers, including Thiel, who view FDA oversight and rules as innovation-stifling. One investor called the trial a “test case” and argued that “the FDA is standing in the way, and Americans are going to hear about this and demand action.”

I have seen the future and it’s appalling.

America the Beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims’ pride;
I’m glad they’ll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine,
Choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain.

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God’s love
and a need to always pray.

We’ve kept God in our temples,
how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We’ve voted in a government
that’s rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb.

You think that God’s not angry,
that our land’s a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven
and forgive us of our sins,
He’ll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
if you don’t - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee.

OUR AMERICAN BIRTHRIGHT

A Poem By Alabama Judge Roy S. Moore - Ten Commandments Judge

One nation under God was their cry and declaration, Upon the law of Nature’s God they built a mighty Nation. For unlike mankind before them who had walked this earthen sod, These men would never question the Sovereignty of God.

That all men were “created” was a truth “self-evident,” To secure the rights God gave us was the role of government. And if any form of government became destructive of this end, It was their right, their duty, a new one to begin.

So with a firm reliance on Divine Providence for protection, They pledged their sacred honor and sought His wise direction. They lifted an appeal to God for all the world to see, And declared their independence forever to be free.

I’m glad they’re not here with us to see the mess we’re in, How we’ve given up our righteousness for a life of indulgent sin. For when abortion isn’t murder and sodomy is deemed a right, Then evil is now called good and darkness is now called light.

While truth and law were founded on the God of all Creation, Man now, through law, denies the truth and calls it “seperation.” No longer does man see a need for God when he’s in full control, For the only truth self-evident is in the latest poll.

But with man as his own master we fail to count the cost, Our precious freedoms vanish and our liberty is lost. Children are told they can’t pray and they teach them evolution, When will they learn the fear of God is the only true solution.

Our schools have become the battleground while all across the land, Christians shrug their shoulders afraid to take a stand. And from the grave their voices cry the victory has been won. Just glorify the Father as did His only Son.

The thing that really sucks is that many Americans, especially in Alabama, can’t see that these people are monsters who are running interference for a child-molester.

My best friend’s parents lived in Alabama for many years of their retirement because property is so inexpensive. They were disgusted by all the hyper-religious people that couldn’t leave them alone. They’re much happier in Florida now.

VOCABULARY WORD OF THE DAY:

Ephebophilia is when an adult is mostly or only sexually attracted to people in their mid-to-late teenage years, generally those in the age range 15-19.[1][2] An adult with this attraction is called an “ephebophile”. Ephebophilia is not just the sexual attraction to teenaged partners, but is when an adult prefers such sexual partners.[2]

Specific words are used by scientists for chronophilias (which is when people are mostly or only sexually attracted to specific age groups). Along with ephebophilia, another example is hebephilia, which means that a person is mostly or only sexually attracted to younger, pubescent people. The word pedophilia means that a person is mostly or only sexually attracted to children who have not reached puberty.[2][3] However, the term pedophilia is commonly, but incorrectly, used to refer to any sexual interest in any person under the age of 18, regardless of whether they are post-pubescent.[4]

Which reminds me, there was a great thread on Twitter last night, that I tried to retweet, but because I was having Twitter problems and had to reinstall the app, I lost the thread.

Anyway, it was an Alabama reporter addressing the issue of why reporters from Alabama didn’t track down the Moore story with the 14 year old and etc. The gist of the reporter’s comments were that the newspaper world in Alabama (which is probably true in many states if not most) just doesn’t have the resources. Local, independent media has just taken in on the chin in the past decades to the point the papers will have a couple of political reporters in the major cities, but they don’t have the resources like a national paper such as the Washington Post, which according to this reporter is growing and is able to do the move investigative stuff. Kind of chilling.

Due to NRA recklessness, assault rifle slaughters now hitting rural areas

Just paged this:

This is the world that the GOP and the NRA are forcing our children to grow up in:

At a small market at the entrance to the subdivision, one man said Tuesday that his cousin’s daughter was afraid to leave the house after the gunman shot into their car.

“Her daughter, she didn’t even want to get out of the house for now. She just wants to stay home. Wants nothing with the outside,” said the man, who would not give his name

Two other men said children in their family — pupils at the school ages 6 to 9 — had similar reactions.

“All of our nephews, they say they want to get out of this school. But I tell them, where do you want to go? Do you want to go to Vegas? Or to Texas?” the man said.

The random assault rifle violence that has hit America’s big cities is about to start reaching the rural “Red State” areas that have long voted to flood this country with unlimited access to any weapon they want. Outfitted with every possible accessory to make it easier to slaughter as many people in as short a time as possible.

Josh Marshall raises a very good point about the notion of waiting for Moore to get elected and then expelling him.

Over the last 48 hours, Republicans have been abandoning Roy Moore in droves. Last night on his Fox News show, Moore dead-ender Sean Hannity put Moore under a 24-hour deadline to prove his innocence or drop out of the race. In this climate it’s now widely assumed that should he be elected Moore either will be or should be expelled from the Senate over the multiple accusations of pursuing and in some cases assaulting teenage girls in the 1980s.

This is a very questionable idea.

Let me start by stating explicitly that Roy Moore is an execrable character. Before we ever heard of his sexual misconduct and alleged assaults, he had repeatedly and willfully disregarded the laws of the United States as a state judge. He is also synonymous with hatred and bigotry of various sorts. He’s awful. If he manages to get elected it will be a disgrace for the state of Alabama.

But we’re dealing here with issues which must be given due weight and consideration apart from Moore’s alleged crimes. Our entire constitutional system is based on duly constituted elections for public officials. The ability for a house of Congress to expel one of its own members is a power so great that it contains within it the power to overturn our entire system of government. Our whole system of government is based on the idea that the people of individual states decide who will represent them in the Senate rather than the Senate deciding who will or won’t represent a given state.

TBH, I think if Moore winds up being elected, his Senate colleagues will drop the expulsion idea like a hot rock and we’ll never hear about it again. But Marshall is correct in pointing out that expulsion is historically rare and is a power that should be used sparingly, if at all.

Want to buy a machine gun over the internet? $2,000 says you can!

You can choose from many makes and models of full-auto machine gun on GunBroker, and it will be delivered right to your door!

The sad truth is that big cities were just the canaries in this endless, nightmarish coal mine. Assault rifle violence hit here first. We screamed at the top of our lungs to stop the flood of assault rifles into the hands of crazy people. And rural Americans just shrugged and said “tough shit.”

It’s their turn now in the barrel. As a practical matter, it is way, WAY too late to get the guns out of the hands of all the batshit crazy GOP voters who have snarfed them up - particularly in the last 8 years, under Obama, when the “Buy an assault rifle to protect yourself from the Scary Negro In The White House” dogwhistle marketing campaigns really got traction.

They voted for this. This is what they wanted.

But other U.N. delegates and critics say that the American stance could set back international efforts to secure legal protections from violence for women and children around the world. For instance, Russia largely decriminalized acts of domestic violence earlier this year.

American conservatives have long been suspicious of what they see as U.N. threats to U.S. sovereignty, and especially U.N. efforts to broaden the rights of children. They view those efforts as a threat to parental control over their offspring and to the practice of corporal punishment, which is still legal in public schools in more than 20 states in the United States, particularly in the South. The United States is the only country in the world that is not party to the 1990 Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In the America of earlier centuries, women who expressed their anger in public were sometimes fitted with iron masks that covered their faces and depressed their tongues. “Scold’s bridles,” as the devices were called, served a dual purpose: public humiliation, and, via the tongue depressor, a more pragmatic assurance that mouthy women would be mouthy no more. The bridlers understood what remains true today: that anger, particularly when it comes from a woman, can be disruptive. Intemperate, immodest, impatient with the demands of the demure, indignant with a world that disqualifies women from full participation in it—feminine anger can shake the world, right at the foundations. It can take a cudgel to the fragile framework of the status quo.

So, in regard to the situation in Zimbabwe, here’s what I’ve gathered from a friend of mine in Nairobi, Kenya.

Basically, this putsch seems to be the handiwork of China. She explained it like this: VP Mnangagwa, who was sacked last week, was Beijing’s choice as successor since 2015, but Grace Mugabe and her allies have recently started causing way too much trouble. That’s why the Zimbabwean army acted.

Mnangagwa and China go way, waaaay back. Mnangagwa has possibly the longest relationship with China out of any the ZANU-PF leaders, going all the way back to 1963 when he led the first ZANU guerrilla recruits to the PRC for training, back when Mao was still running the show. He’s very much seen as a businessman more than a politician (his dealings over Zimbabwe’s purchase and re-selling of military fuel showed that) and he is seen by the UK and the USA as far less polarizing - not to mention less unstable - than Grace Mugabe.

That being said, Mnangagwa is not exactly “Mr. Clean”; he was instrumental in the Gukurahundi killings in the mid-1980’s, which left at least 8,500 dead….and possibly far more. But, he’s viewed as less erratic than Robert Mugabe and seeing as he’s buddy-buddy with China, which is now a major investor in Zimbabwe, things will probably be copasetic.

The general view is that this has been in the works ever since the Chinese state visit in December 2015. And if it is in fact an example of China pulling some wetwork, well…..then it’s truly a brave new world we’ve entered.

That means you actually have to be a Federally licensed dealer and have a letter from some law enforcement agency indicating they are interested in purchasing automatic weapons from you and you have to prove every few years that you are actually a legitimate dealer or you need to sell them to someone who is. I saw what was billed as a thoughtful response to the piece in last week’s NYT piece on whether blacks can be friends with white people. The author of that piece speaks longingly of the midwestern college town where he grew up in the 1980s and 1990s as a place and time where race wasn’t important.

And the author of the ‘thoughtful response’ picks up on this, that in many ways it was a different time, more hopeful, etc.

The responses, of course, are telling. The most telling to me?

…and what destroyed the peace and progress of the late 80’s and early 90’s?
—> O. J.

Which I realized is probably how white conservatives see it. For white people, OJ’s guilt was obvious, because cops don’t plant evidence, and cops aren’t racist. Below that? OJ went from Magical Negro to Angry Black Man, with a side of sullying white purity - this subtext most won’t acknowledge, but it’s there. And black people were saying they thought he was innocent, that maybe the LAPD set him up.

And they had their reasons for thinking that way. It was just a couple years before that that Rodney King was beaten mercilessly by LAPD officers, on film. White America had a chance then to prove that “the peace and progress of the late 80’s” was real, but Rodney King was turned into a thug in the popular white imagination, and the cops got off scot free.

So, no. It wasn’t black people believing OJ was innocent that “destroyed the peace and progress of the late 80’s”. It was white people believing the LAPD’s innocence in direct contradiction of what you could see with your own eyes.

Just passed across my twitter feed; this looks like a good read…

“…In debt but defiant as ever, Royall reinvented herself and launched a literary career at the age of 57. She announced her intention to publish a book on her recent sojourn in Alabama as a “serpent-tongued” traveling writer in the 1820s, introducing the term “redneck” to our American lexicon. She added a Southern and frontier view to an emerging national identity, and challenged the prevailing mores of “respectable” Christian women through one avenue suddenly available: the printing press.

Traipsing across the rough country as a single woman, she quickly published a series of “Black Books” that provided informative but sardonic portraits of the elite and their denizens from Mississippi to Maine. The books became prized possessions, if only for the delight of devastatingly funny descriptions of her “pen portraits.” Power brokers sought out her company—or locked their doors. President John Quincy Adams called her the “virago errant in enchanted armor.”

Royall may have limped after a brutal attack in New England, been scarred from a horsewhipping in Pittsburgh, and lamented being chased out of taverns on the Atlantic Coast, but she relished the attention in the nation’s capital.”

I know, usually she limits her visuals to external genitalia…

re: #339 Blind Frog Belly White

I saw what was billed as a thoughtful response to the piece in last week’s NYT piece on whether blacks can be friends with white people. The author of that piece speaks longingly of the midwestern college town where he grew up in the 1980s and 1990s as a place and time where race wasn’t important.

And the author of the ‘thoughtful response’ picks up on this, that in many ways it was a different time, more hopeful, etc.

The responses, of course, are telling. The most telling to me?

Absolutely.

And of course, Dodge started using that primarily as a reference to their Dodge Ram pickups. Kinda ironic to that their oh-so-masculine Ram logo looks so uterine….

FCA has separated the old Dodge Truck Division and renamed it Ram, since they were calling all their trucks that anyway, so I think as of 2012, Dodge cars lost their uteri. I know that there aren’t any on my 2014 Challenger.

The enduring issues that she challenged in her time—the stranglehold of financial and religious interests in the polarization of politics, the fragmentation of national unity, the unending debates over the balance between freedom of religion and freedom of speech, the role of anti-intellectual mediums to disenfranchise the powerless from public participation, and the shifting and historic role of women in the public arena and media—make Royall’s complex story worth reconsideration today.

Maybe this time they’ve been wrong footed by the timing and the nature of the accusations against Moore. For one, the image of Judge Roy that’s been set in the public mind (though not so much, apparently among AL GOP) - that of a skeezy jailbait-cruiser - isn’t the sort of thing that can be easily whattabouted with it looking too overtly like a transparent hack-job on Doug Jones. Secondly, there are still four weeks til the election: by the time a smear-job can get properly ginned up, it will have enough time to debunked or forgotten.
A 12-point lead sounds untenable optimistic, but at least there’s a fighting chance, now….

Absolutely at no time did Trump improve the US position on any issue he’s touched anywhere in the world.

US national security is demonstrably worse.
US foreign policy is demonstrably worse. Trump and Tillerson have sacked the State Department and rendered it incapable of doing its job. They’re the ones who do the deals and negotiate in concert with the Commerce Department, which was also gutted.

The experts aren’t sticking around and there’s no leadership anywhere at any level within the Trump admin, because he simply doesn’t give a shit and neither do any of his underlings.

Who benefits from this chaos? China, Putin, and our rivals.

Our allies are in worse shape. Trump props up despots and dictators, ignoring human rights abuses and civil rights, which gives those same despots a freer hand do crack down on civil and human rights.

So, how is any of that improving the US. Just because Trump spews it doesn’t mean it’s factually accurate, or even related to reality. This is another fact-free Trump diatribe that is untethered from facts or logic and that means the Fox News crowd will love this shit.

Then Trump responds to how Fox loves this shit and treats it as though the nation approves Trump’s actions, and we get the unending cycle of derp.

If he runs for and wins Ohio governorship, good for Ohio, but his leaving the CFPB opens up avenues for bad (read Republican wet dreams) in so many ways.

“Article II Section IV of the Constitution of the United States of America was drafted for a time such as this and a president such as Trump,” Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, told reporters at a news conference at the Capitol today. “This president has committed misdeeds that merit impeachment.”

The five articles of impeachment the lawmakers introduced today are:

1. Obstruction of justice regarding the Russia investigation and firing of FBI Director James Comey 2. Violation of Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution - Foreign Emoluments 3. Violation of Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution - Domestic Emoluments 4. Undermining the Independence of the Federal Judiciary and the Rule of Law 5. Undermining Freedom of the Press

In addition to Green, Reps. Steve Cohen, Luis Gutierrez, Marcia Fudge, John Yarmuth and Adriano Espaillat — on the far left of the House Democratic Caucus - have taken the step against the wishes of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Whip Steny Hoyer.

“We’ve made the judgment that the facts aren’t there yet,” Hoyer, D-Maryland, told congressional reporters during a roundtable discussion in his office today, citing a “number of investigations” that “should run out” before pursuing impeachment.

@pzmyers has 178,000 followers. No blue checkmark. Hmm.

Fuckin’ @DweezilZappa has no blue checkmark, the only Zappa sibling to not have one.

Dunno, have they filled out the forms to request verification? Maybe they didn’t want to give their phone numbers to twitter or something? The whole verification process is too cryptic.

Way off topic, but I need the Lizard collective mind. Since my car was totaled on Monday, (fortunately no injuries beyond a couple bruises for anyone) we are now in the market for a new car. We were thinking Prius 4 because great mileage and all the safety warning beepers and stuff (I’m nervous for some reason…)
Anyhoo, they apparently don’t come with a spare tire. Not a huge deal around town, but when we take to the open road where we may or may not have cell service and other cars only come along occasionally, I’d be mighty nervous.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a temporary spare for the Prius 4? I’d like to be armed with some information when we talk to the dealer.

Sadly a lot of cars no longer have the tire well in the trunk for the spare. A lot cars have the run-flat tires on them. I hate that whole concept. You can go 50 to 60 miles on a run flat, but what are the odds you will find a place to service the now flat tire and what if it is too damaged to fix?

You can always buy a new tire with maybe a steel wheel, but then you have to ride around with it in the trunk taking up room.

Yeah, it sucks.

Sucks is right. I wouldn’t need the spare most of the time around town, and wouldn’t want to have to haul an extra wheel along with everything else when we travel.

re: #453 Dr Lizardo

In some fairness to Trump, whenever I’m done with a long flight, I have a stuffy nose and generally feel blecch. Tired, jet-lagged, etc. The last thing I’d contemplate doing is a presser after a transoceanic flight. Maybe the following day.

Trump give no “fairness” to anyone else - He was the idiot who wanted to do this presser - he is too darn stupid to even realise it might be an issue. I give him nothing, absolutely zero
