Haven’t been around much lately… life has this way of getting in the way. But I was just thinking after a friend asked why Trump still has a twitter account… what if there was a block Trump movement. Like people just start blocking him and posting the screen capture. Not sure it’ll do anything but the reaction from the wingularity fox and friends and then eventually Trump might be entertaining

I’m thinking the real reason Sarah Palin was in DC the other day was to give him turkey pardoning tips. It will be pretty difficult to beat hers.

We heard that tune for the first time while driving around the Bay of Fundy on vacation back in August. The station didn’t announce who did the tune, and we all agreed that the voice sounded really familiar but we couldn’t figure out who the hell it was.

Smokin’ tune, and I’m always a sucker for a big-budget video.

(And I’ll say it again - Josh’s face seriously resembles Trump’s at certain moments.)

re: #14 Kilroy was here

The question of what happened to lost biros/pens has already been explained:

Veet Voojagig, was a quiet young student at the University of Maximeglon, who pursued a brilliant academic career studying ancient philology, transformational ethics and the wave harmonic theory of historical perception, and then, after a night of drinking Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters with Zaphod Beeblebrox, became increasingly obsessed with the problem of what had happened to all the biros he’d bought over the past few years.

There followed a long period of painstaking research during which he visited all the major centres of biro loss throughout the galaxy and eventually came up with a quaint little theory which caught the public imagination at the time. Somewhere in the cosmos, he said, along with all the planets inhabited by humanoids, reptiloids, fishoids, walking treeoids and superintelligent shades of the colour blue, there was also a planet entirely given over to biro life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended biros would make thier way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely biroid lifestyle, responding to highly biro-orientated stimuli, and generally leading the biro equivalent of the good life.

Regardless, have we had any President that oozes and spews the sheer vindictiveness that Trump does? The moment someone decides Trump isn’t the end-all be-all god-king of all that is good in the world, he wants vengeance and hate all upon them.

The thought that other pressures might have had an influence simply doesn’t enter his mind, and now he wants them punished for insufficient deference.

And somehow, this is what actually attracted people to him?

The Kenyon-Barr project, named for two main thoroughfares in the area, was a city plan that razed more than 2,600 buildings, including 7,000 housing units, to make way for the industrial area known now as Queensgate. About 26,000 people lived in the area, according to city estimates, and 97 percent of them were African American. To them, it was just the West End.

City planners at the time considered the Kenyon-Barr project to be “slum clearance,” and many of the buildings destroyed did not meet code requirements. But the low-income neighborhood had a vibrant street life — pictures in “Finding Kenyon-Barr” show sidewalks full of men, women and children coming and going from homes and businesses — and a connected community.

really fascinating piece of Cincinnati history.

The Trumps certainly didn’t get the money they have claimed they have by running the businesses that the public got to see.

Of course many of those were duds. And there were all the known failures and bankruptcies. We know many of the real estate deals pissed off banks and local governments.

So the big money had to come from somewhere. There had to be enough to save him from all the stupid shit he did and enough to keep him in the running as “one of the world’s richest men” (BS). And everyone knows the best way to make big money is through various crime involving big money for big return.

re: #72 makeitstop

Part of this is because Trump and his idiot cabal of cronies are too stupid to know how deep into the weeds they are. Trump thinks he can just spew nonsense and make the investigation go away. His cronies don’t realize how much they’ve already done that puts them in indictment territory.

Kushner is a walking indictment, and that’s before we even talk the Russia contacts. Lying on the SF-86 is felony territory, for each successive form that omitted details. Since there’s at least 3 versions, and 2 of them omitted the pivotal June meeting, that means he’s facing 5 years on each. Losing security clearance is the least of his woes.

Donny Junior is in just as deep trouble. Flynn’s in even worse shape.

Pence is also on the razor’s edge of trouble - both because he was transition chair with Flynn, and he chose to look the other way while criminality ran rampant all over the transition team and they looked the other way as Trump’s people lied to everyone about their contacts.

The more Mueller talks to the Trump cronies, the more we see how incompetent and corrupt every last one of them are.

The conspiracy against the US is the charge, and all these folks meeting with Russian agents is in furtherance of the conspiracy. All these folks talking with Wikileaks is in furtherance of the conspiracy. It’s not going to end well for any of them.

The general assumption is that Trump was not because Hicks was/is a cut-out who passed on what he “needed” to know. Will she try to save Trump at the expense of, let us say, Kushner? Herself? How I miss Obama. I seem to be so full of hate lately - I snap and yell and grouch - regardless of where I am & who I talk to. When President Obama was running the world :) - I used to like myself.

Yup. Also Hope Hicks is about to find herself in the middle of a meat grinder. She was copied on a bunch of emails. The general assumption is that Trump was not because Hicks was/is a cut-out who passed on what he “needed” to know. Will she try to save Trump at the expense of, let us say, Kushner? Herself? She may be a tough cookie but she’ll be facing quite remarkable pressure. I believe her interview is scheduled for just after Thanksgiving.

It appears since they are interviewing her after people like Flynn, Manafort, Page and Junior she is at the very least a pivotal character and/or a major connection to the next level which is Trump and Pence.

There must be a huge case building underneath her and when she gets to the interview they are going to put tons of pressure on her as one that ties it all together and then explain her options for a future as a free person.

That’s my take anyway. I hope she is prepared for the heat.

So he’s following the exact example he set with Wealthcare: Instead of working to turn “No” votes into “Yes” votes, he’s tearing down the “No” votes in such a fashion that they actually gain street cred for telling him where to shove his bill.

The Franken thing is really tough. When men have been excused forever of bad behavior with “boys being boys” or “context matters” and I have agreed with those who have said “enough is enough,” I find myself wanting to say with Charles that it is awful to have acted in such a boorish and unthoughtful way, but it’s really not the same as trolling malls for young teen girls or Harvey’s rapes or Louis CK’s exposure and masturbation. What’s tough is that many of my liberal friends—especially women—are not bending at all on this. And I understand. If we are going to change things overall there can’t be tolerance, and Charles made clear that there should be consequences. But I can’t help but feeling that something is going wrong here. Maybe I like and respect Al too much as a politician now and hate the idea that we may lose him. I’m confounded. I know I can say that here. I get no sympathy in other places I have posted my thoughts—I’m an apologist for bad male behavior. I’ll say no more. Just wanted to vent a bit.

I agree with you, I’m pretty sure. I have caught some flak elsewhere for suggesting that we all wait awhile. That’s partly to see if other women come forward with similar complaints (doesnt seem to be happening) and partly to gain a sense of proportion. I stand by my first, instant response at Balloon Juice, where Cole, whom I love dearly, went off as he tends to do. It read, in its entirety:

Oh, fuck off, Cole. Zero to resign in 10 seconds? That’s bullshit.

Franken fucked up, I agree. But I want to wait a month or so before sentencing him, and that delay is exactly what the Senate Ethics Committee will provide.

Also, this furore must be scaring the shit out of some people who thoroughly deserve it. But I don’t want to burn Franken just as an example. That doesn’t seem right to me.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump would not insist on including repeal of an Obama-era health insurance mandate in a bill intended to enact the biggest overhaul of the tax code since the 1980s, a senior White House aide said on Sunday.

The version of tax legislation put forward by Senate Republican leaders would remove a requirement in former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law that taxes Americans who decline to buy health insurance.

“If we can repeal part of Obamacare as part of a tax bill … that can pass, that’s great,” White House budget director Mick Mulvaney said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “If it becomes an impediment to getting the best tax bill we can, then we are OK with taking it out.”

I heard some Alabamians say Roy understands Alabama and is good for the people of Alabama.

I hope the women of Alabama are watching and thinking about some of those statements. They seem to be saying Roy Moore going to Washington is more important than the women of Alabama that were probably abused.

I guess he isn’t really all that good for ALL the Women of Alabama and those that want all of them treated fairly. I hope they consider that at the voting booth. I hope they consider some of them are still being abused.

You are soooo right.

The 2020 Census is going to be problematic no matter what happens now. It’s a large, complex task that requires expertise, major planning, and sufficient lead time to prepare. The preponderance of armed sov-cits makes collecting data in certain areas a dangerous task. The preponderance of Republican governors & state legislators will make it more difficult to accurately count urban areas.

If Trump’s not out soon and we can’t start replacing the worst of his incompetent minions by next summer, then yeah, we’re going from problematic to crisis mode.

Trump admin pulling numbers out of their ass about the costs of opioid epidemic. $500 billion a year?

Seriously? Who makes these numbers up?
60,000 people die from opioid epidemic, and many thousands more are injured requiring treatment.

And by that logic, gun violence should be in the ballpark of $250 billion a year. At its height, $400 billion a year.

I’m going to have to revise and extend my remarks, because it does seem that these numbers start to make sense, if we base them on fact that studies into gun violence found the annual cost in excess of $225 billion a year - factoring in direct and indirect costs.

motherjones.com

That’s the thing though. We can figure out direct costs based on incarceration, medical, etc. but the indirect costs are harder to figure.

Not one story says the cause of death for the border patrol agent - I’m going to guess car accident.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent died this morning as a result of injuries sustained while on patrol in the Big Bend Sector.

Agent Rogelio Martinez and his Big Bend Sector partner were responding to activity while on patrol near Interstate 10, in the Van Horn Station area. Agent Martinez’s partner reported that they were both injured and in need of assistance. Responding agents provided immediate medical care, and transported both agents to a local hospital.

Big Bend Sector was later told that Agent Martinez expired from his injuries. His partner remains in the local hospital in serious condition.

Border Patrol agents from Big Bend Sector and the Culberson County Sheriff’s Department secured the scene. The Border Patrol’s Special Operations Group and agents from CBP’s Air and Marine Operations are searching the area for potential suspects or witnesses.

The Culberson County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Office of Inspector General, and CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility are investigating.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Agent Martinez and his family, and with the agent who was injured.

Gaah….

Democrracy Now: Chomsky: CIA Targeting of Julian Assange of WikiLeaks is “Disgraceful Act”

AMY GOODMAN: Noam, I wanted to, before we get to your book, your latest book, ask you about this latest development in the United States. The director of the Central Intelligence Agency gave his first major address, and he focused on WikiLeaks. And it looks like now the U.S. is preparing an arrest warrant for Julian Assange, who’s been holed up in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London for almost five years now. Pompeo calling WikiLeaks a “hostile non-state intelligence service,” calling Julian Assange himself a “demon,” and said he’s not protected by the First Amendment. Your thoughts?
NOAM CHOMSKY: Well, I think it speaks for itself. WikiLeaks has released lots of information that governments don’t like. It’s overwhelmingly information that citizens should have. It’s information about what their governments are doing. And perfectly natural that systems of power don’t want to be exposed, so they’ll do what they can to prevent exposure. I think it’s a disgraceful act. In fact, I think it’s disgraceful even to keep Julian Assange holed up in the Ecuadorean Embassy. I did visit him there once, but you can guess yourself. It’s, in many ways, worse than imprisonment. At least if you’re in prison, you can see other prisoners, and you can get out and look at the sunshine now and then. He’s in a small apartment, where he can’t go out. You know, he can go to the balcony, but that’s about it, a small—basically, a couple of rooms inside a small apartment. It’s not a big embassy. The embassy is like a kind of an apartment in London, surrounded by police and so on. There’s been no credible basis for any of this. And to go on to try to raise it to the level of criminal prosecutions, I think, is, again, one of these efforts to look tough at home, and the kind of effort that a government would carry out that is dedicated to trying to protect itself from exposure of facts that citizens should have, but systems of power don’t want them to have. I think that’s the crucial issue.

First off, there’s a difference between leaks and trading in stolen merchandise - Wikileaks specifically trades in stolen merchandise and weaponizes it.

The Majors Iron Rule of Weaponization: Any Good, Service, or Technology the can be weaponized WILL be weaponized.

VAN HORN, Texas — Authorities are searching Texas’ Big Bend area for potential suspects and witnesses after a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent was fatally injured responding to activity there.

CBS News has learned that the agents responded to the scene in separate cars. One agent was investigating a tripped alarm while the other agent was there as back up. Officials haven’t yet established why an alarm was triggered or what transpired in the attack.

re: #242 teleskiguy

“This is Zoofi….”

Thanks for the clip. When I saw Zoofi trying to catch the snow from inside the house, it reminded me of my Penelope after I had an interior patio door installed between the kitchen and the family room about a month ago. She was accustomed to going into the family room whenever she wanted. I had the door installed to keep her out because she’d push all of the cushions off my sofa, get on my tables and the TV stand and pull things off of them and get into everything in the room and leave a mess for me to clean up. She’d do it while I was busy cooking or working on one of my little home projects. After the door was installed, she saw her reflection in the window panes of the door and began to bark and growl at herself. It may have been wrong, but I laughed at her and she knew I was laughing at her.
