The NYT is just being consistent.

Phony-Semitism
An early New York Times article about Adolf Hitler catastrophically misjudged the authenticity of his anti-semitism.

After listening to and understanding AM radio in the early 90’s, then understanding Bircherism which came before it, and hearing the language morph through the last three decades, it’s pretty clear that we’ve normalized all kinds of cretins and outcasts. Long ago hatebreeds like Mark Levin and Dennis Prager would only be on late at night in some markets but after Limbaugh they became a commodity. Ailes capitalized on the TV with Fox. Then internet blogdom exploded.

Now we’re calling Nazis ‘dapper.’ The rot started long ago. And here we are.

I boughtthe game Wolfenstein 2. I am a fan of the series. But the commercials and the ads made me say awesome…

Because all it does is put in your face two things
1. Nazis are bad
2. Kill them in the game.

It is a great story and fun and well worth it. But it shows how stupid and normalizing the nyt is helping to normalize its ideals. The games make no bones (like the tweets shown here as I have no twitter account) how terrible they were and are.

And yet here we are in a society that is having interviews and profiles about them trying to make them normal.

And then I look at wolfenstein 2 and their ad campaign and think thats how you talk about Nazis and show how they are: desperate and terrible people who deserve nothing but a time of terribleness in history and to be used as fodder in movies and videogames.

Rant over.

Good article by Martin Longman in the Washington Monthly that covers a Facebook post by Konstantine Rykov on November 12, 2016. In today’s wingnut Christianity:

Jim Bakker: Apache Helicopters Are Mentioned in the Bible (goes to Right Wing Watch, with video):

On his television show on Friday, prepper pastor Jim Bakker said that people would realize that the End Times are upon us if they would simply study the Bible because if they do, they’ll be able to recognize that the signs mentioned in the book of Revelation are already happening.

For instance, Bakker said, people who have studied the Bible will realize that Apache helicopters were mentioned in Revelation 9:

The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.

“Everything in the Bible is not a fairy tale,” Bakker said. “It’s all things that you can learn [if you study] … Do you know the Apache helicopter, I think, is in the Bible. John the Revelator saw it, he heard it, he saw it, it’s there. It said it had a face of a man; look in the helicopter, there’s the face of a man. It had a blue breastplate; it’s there. It’s so easy to understand the revelation if you read it.”

Targetpractice  Nov 25, 2017 • 5:11:13pm

The Nazis were not aliens who just popped up one day and turned a nation into a charnel house. They were people you knew in your everyday life who had been allowed to let their prejudices find root in fertile soil. Your father the war veteran who’d been convinced that the Great War was lost because the bureaucrats and the bankers “stabbed us in the back.” Or your destitute friend who lost his home and his business and blamed the Jewish bankers. Or the butcher who you saw every day who was convinced that the local band of gypsies were responsible for the rash of illnesses in town.

At first you’d scoff at their remarks or their ranting for the sake of politeness. Then eventually you started counseling them to watch what they said as it might upset the neighbors. You started to noticed the rallies and people around you wearing armbands and considered it a passing fad, people looking for meaning in the depths of the Great Depression. But eventually you started to notice that you were the exception rather than the rule, that everyone around you was now openly railing against the Jews, the bankers, the bureaucrats, the aristocrats, the communists, the unionists, and others who the man with the funny moustache told them to hate.

By then, it was too late. If you were lucky, you could find a way to escape to safer shores. If you weren’t, at best you’d find yourself simply forced to pledge allegiance to a madman and his hatemongering regime. At worst, you’d find yourself in a jail cell or a camp, labeled a political prisoner for the high crime of not signing onto the hate.

75
Stanley Sea  Nov 25, 2017 • 5:13:14pm

The group’s next target is Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.), whose district includes Chesterfield and who earlier this year complained that “the women are in my grill no matter where I go” — a reference to the activists who protested against efforts by Brat and other House Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Given the historical photographs of him and Ivanka and what he’s said about (and to) teen and preteen girls, I would not be surprised if Trump has abused her; just get how he is defending Moore right now.

Hal Lindsey was going on about this in his books back in the 1970s. I specifically remember reading about how killer helicopters were mentioned in the Bible in one of Lindsey’s post “Late Great Planet Earth” books around 1976. *rolls eyes* Jimmy Bakker is a piker.

Considering how PharmaBro Martin Shkreli got hoodwinked out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in Bitcoins, that’s not out of the realm of possibilities..

And - oh, yes - Shkreli is still behind bars for this stunt (Wikipedia):

On September 13, 2017, his bail was revoked following a Facebook post offering $5,000 for a strand of Hillary Clinton’s hair which the judge perceived as solicitation to assault, which is not protected under the First Amendment.[116][117] Shkreli’s post was preceded by others that suggested he might have plans to clone Hillary Clinton.[116] According to him, this was satire, and according to his lawyer, this satire may have been tasteless, but was not made in a threatening manner.[116] Shkreli edited the post to add a disclaimer that it was satire,[118] and later said he did this minutes after publication.[119] Shkreli was sent to the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn[3] to serve out jail time until his sentencing hearing on January 16, 2018,[120] during which his ultimate sentence will be determined.[121]

I hadn’t heard that joke in the Navy, but I’m not really surprised. When I was in in the 90s, all you had to say was “telephone pole” and everyone nodded in agreement.

Well, it’s a joke about the Navy, so I’m going to guess the origin is the Army.

It could be, but I wouldn’t put it past some people in the Navy to come up with it either. Sailors can be pretty self-deprecating.

Plus, I bet, like every joke I’ve heard, the same joke is probably told with Army, Air Force, or Marines substituted.

I remember that kid. At the time Krohn was a kid wonder conservative, Limbaugh and Hannity and all the rest of the radio grifters were tripping over their own dicks praising him and begging for interviews, the undying love they professed was very weird and kind of disgusting.

As in “like shooting fish in a barrel”?

It’s based upon a dirty joke about being at sea for a long time.

New York Times writers now trying to ignore the shitload of angry tweets about that appalling Nazi puff-piece, and praising each other for being so great.

Maybe this will lead the NY Times to finally realize their error in their prior attempts to explain Trump voters: that , in fact, too many Trump voters are basically racists and/or Nazis.

Religious-Right Activist Says Roy Moore Can’t Possibly Be Guilty Because ‘Godly Men’ Can’t Fake Innocence [Video]

One of Moore’s most avid backers, Janet Porter, is a member of the group Faith2Action. Porter appeared on MSNBC to defend Roy Moore in discussion with hosts Stephanie Ruhle and Ali Velshi.

Porter explained:

“I know the man that is good, who has a character of impeccable values. He is godly and that’s just not something you can fake every single day for 40 years in a row. It just can’t be done.”

This is the end result of 40 years of Republican co-opting of religion. If this was the USSR, Janet Porter would be a Party apparatchik following the Party line on everything!

I am sure they see the State Department as the non-military arm of the imperialist menace called the USA, so good riddance.

Hillary once ran it, so it’s the most evil thing ever.
