They did, though it was less important than on the mainland. Taino people, food and agriculture.
Contrary to mainland practices, corn was not ground into flour and baked into bread, but was cooked and eaten off the cob. Corn bread becomes moldy faster than cassava bread in the high humidity of the Caribbean. Corn was also used to make an alcoholic beverage known as chicha.

At least, for as slow as your DSL connection is, your Upload and Download speeds are damn near the same, making your DSL connection symmetric - which is nearly impossible here either with Cable of DSL stateside unless you have Verizon FIOS or decide to install an 0C3 link - and that ain’t cheap….
When I was living back in the Twinc Cities, the ILEC CenturyLink kept sending out folks to get them to switch over from Comcast to them. All I had to do is ask them: “Are you Fiber to the Home or Fiber to the gateway ?” Once they said “No”, I said “Come back to me when you have Fiber to The Home - and don’t bother sending over any more door-to-door reps asking me to switch.”
Also, they were bundling DIRECTV in their package as well. Well, since I had a Ceton 4-channel CableCard tuner in my Home Theater PC, that also made my decision much easier as well..

I recently watched an interview where the guest talked about staving off Alzheimer’s. One critical item was to get sufficient sleep because that apparently protects against development of the amyloid plaques in the brain. Isn’t Trump notorious for getting insufficient sleep? And with a family history of Alzheimer’s, it is certainly possible he doesn’t really retain any recent facts, even if he is reminded of them periodically.

Like I said, not as simple as some people would like to think it is. I remind anti-abortion proponents that we know what happens when women can’t get a legal and safe abortion. We resort to illegal and unsafe abortions. And we know this because we can see it happening in countries like Brazil and El Salvador, where legal abortion is very, very limited and hospital wards are full of women recovering from illegal abortions (Brazil) or women are being sent to prison when their miscarriage is considered an abortion (El Salvador).
What would be better would be to make birth control methods easily available, but anti-abortion proponents think this just encourages premarital sex, or that the Pill is some sort of evil abortifacient, or condoms aren’t safe. We know that making birth control methods available to all women, regardless of age, brings down the birth rate and the abortion rate, but gee, it also makes sluts, so Colorado discontinued its program. Fuck that noise.

I served a 5 year apprenticeship with night and weekend classes, plus on the job training at reduced wages through a program run by a local union. I live in a blue state that is union friendly but have watched them whittle away at the benefits labor has won through hard battles and bloodshed. Last time I looked “life” predates any conception. I recall Mr. C. and myself both being alive when our kids were conceived. He’s talking about a novel combination of genetic material occurring. Doesn’t sound quite as definitive, but there it is.
