Let’s Cut Right to the Chase: James O’Keefe Is a Lying Weasel

Iframe

Here’s a stunning example of the kind of right wing “journalism” James O’Keefe practices. Watch the video above, then watch the following ridiculously deceptive, heavily edited video O’Keefe put out to make himself look good.

And if you want to know what I think about this, it’s in the title above.

“…One of the reporters who shared video of the scuffle, Connor Sheets, said one of the campaign staffers “physically attacked a cameraman.”

Fox called it an “altercation” and noted that the photojournalists were standing on public property at a city-owned community center.

Serrie said on the air, “It’s not unusual for people to get bumped around a bit in the media scrum. This was not a scrum though. It is highly unusual for members of a political campaign to physically engage in this manner with members of the press.”

fun stuff that genealogy research can turn up; Meghan Markle’s ancestors (from wiki):

Research compiled in 1997 by historians including Markle’s great-uncle, Mike Markle,[65] found that her paternal great-great-great-grandmother was New Hampshire landowner Mary Hussey Smith (1823-1908),[66][67][68] a descendant of nobleman John Hussey, 1st Baron Hussey of Sleaford, who was beheaded in 1537 at the order of King Henry VIII.[69][70][71] Through Lord Hussey, Markle is a descendant of King John.[72][71] Markle is also a descendant of Captain Christopher Hussey, Esquire (d.1686) who was appointed in 1679 by King Charles II to govern the Royal Province of Hampton, New Hampshire. He was a Founding Father of Nantucket.[73][74][75]

Markle is a distant relation of Prince Harry. Their common ancestors are Elizabeth Bowes (1505-c.1572) and her husband, Richard Bowes, son of Sir Ralph Bowes of Streatlam Castle and High Sheriff of County Durham—ancestors of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (née Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon).[76][77][78][79]

Markle’s maternal great-great-great-grandfather was a slave on Georgia plantations before being emancipated with the abolition of slavery in 1865.[80][81]

Genealogical research is so much fun. I’m on a few brickwalls right now but I’m confident they’ll be cracked down eventually. I like learning about the culture of the places wehre I have family from. I was very happy to see the German wheat beer I bought last week was brewed in Frankfurt, not too far from where my surname’s forebearers lived for generations.

Let’s not forget:
1) O’Keefe entered guilty pleas on trying to access phone lines of then US Senator from Louisiana Mary Landrieu. Misdemeanor charges, probation. (slap on the wrist IMO).

2) O’Keefe sought to get a reporter on board a boat, essentially kidnapping the person, and then use the video to show the reporter in the worst possible light as possible. This should have been prosecuted as conspiracy to kidnap and federal charges should have been forthcoming.

This is who O’Keefe has always been. He’s a grifter, con artist, and a criminal. Millionaires continue backing him because they want his agitprop out there to shape events to their liking.

Another grifter/con artist who is soiling their pants because they know deep down in places they don’t want to talk about, that Trump doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing and has no response to anything North Korea’s doing.

Or why North Korea’s doing what they’re doing (hint: it’s because Trump’s a reactionary know nothing who only knows how to bully and bluster - and when that fails, he doesn’t have any fallback).

Indeed, it sort has a hymn feel to it rather than the original version is which more reflecting on current events of the day. That’s the fun of a cover though. You can create a totally different take on a song. Sort of how Johnny Cash made NIN’s Hurt his farewell song.

What was even more infuriating, though: was they way everybody (mainly Congress and the media) jumped on ACORN following O’Keefe’s bullshit stunt, and turned it into an instant pariah: my feeling is that it was a significant setback for the cause of voting rights in this country - a cause that one Party seems hellbent on suppressing, and the other seems oddly indifferent to.

This latest launch would likely signify a range increase of roughly 20 to 25 percent, or an estimated range of roughly 7,200 miles. Such reach would put almost anywhere in the Continental US within striking distance for Pyongyang, including Washington DC and New York City.

Well the film wasn’t belittling Pocahontas either. It was actually a pretty respectful tribute even though they made her a young woman instead of a child, did the fabricated John Smith romance that never existed at all but they did have a Native-American voice Pocahontas who also was the physical model for the character. I know these people are trying to sell bullshit to their base that a movie called Pocahontas about a real person is the same as Trump using it as a slur but still.

I guess it’s time to quote from Shirer’s Rise and Fall of the Third Reich again. Here, after describing the Nazification of culture and especially of the media, he recounts from his own long experience of Germany, the effects of these changes on ordinary people:

Often in a German home or office or sometimes in a casual conversation with a stranger in a restaurant, a beer hall, a café, I would meet with the most outlandish assertions from seemingly educated and intelligent persons. It was obvious that they were parroting some piece of nonsense they had heard on the radio or read in the newspapers. Sometimes one was tempted to say as much, but on such occasions one was met with such a stare of incredulity, such a shock of silence, as if one had blasphemed the Almighty, that one realized how useless it was even to try to make contact with a mind which had become warped and for whom the facts of life had become what Hitler and Goebbels, with their cynical disregard for truth, said they were.

Often in my own life and in the comments of many here, I recognize exactly what he’s saying: how useless it is even to try to make contact with those who have converted to the faith of hate and darkness.

Never say it can’t happen here. It’s happening here right now.

My brother and I were talking about this disconnect we see with many who proclaim to be devout Christians but show no compassion or kindness to anyone in a situation less well off than them.

The end result of 40 years of the Religious Right infecting churches and synagogues. I left my old synagogue when they came out for Arnold in the California recall and they passed out voter guides from the Christian Coalition because they were “pro-Israel”…

My brother and I were talking about the eruption of flat-out racism. We’re both grew up in the Deep South in the bad old days (as opposed to the bad new days we’re now experiencing). He said he hadn’t realized how much of this stuff was still around. This kind of sheltered naivete is why he’s still the kid brother at age 71.

Yeah there’s that too. I imagine the emergence of people who revere the Nazis is especially stumping for your brother and you who knew many adults who fought in WWII.

Racism wasn’t confined to the South. It was everywhere. Before the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, people of color and Jews weren’t allowed at our borough swimming pool. The pool was “restricted”…

My father enlisted in the Army Air Corps before Pearl Harbor and served throughout the war. No one would call Daddy a liberal, but this Nazi garbage would have enraged him. Same with my WWII vet uncles. All of them are gone now, and the loss of them and others like them may help explain why these noxious weeds are cropping up all over the fields.

I have the same theory. The passing of men like your dad and uncles makes the war more distant unfortunately. The Nazi fans terrify the crap out of me.

I was lucky to know my mom’s uncle, a WWII vet. He probably was the first WWII vet I ever met. I was young when he died but he was a younger man, he’d take my mom’s brother to his reunions. Uncle George had no kids or grandkids of his own but he was the best to his nieces and nephews. I can’t eat kielbasa without thinking of him. He also was kind to my Dad too and he had a good sense of humor. That’s what we should remember from WWII and that generation. Not genocidal Nazi thugs.

I read that sentence incorrectly and felt sad for the families that got rendered, but then thought “at least they went together.”

“Just one? No family with him? Sorry, you at the wrong place. Try that plant down the road there.”

jaunte  Nov 28, 2017 • 3:17:50pm

2012:
Did Elizabeth Warren check the Native American box when she ‘applied’ to Harvard and Penn?

“…The Globe obtained a portion of Warren’s application to Rutgers, which asks if prospective students want to apply for admission under the school’s Program for Minority Group Students. Warren answered “no.”

For her employment documents at the University of Texas, Warren indicated that she was “white.”

But Penn’s 2005 Minority Equity Report identified her as the recipient of a 1994 faculty award, listing her name in bold to signify that she was a minority.

The Herald has twice quoted Charles Fried, the head of the Harvard appointing committee that recommended Warren for her position in 1995, saying that the Democratic candidate’s heritage didn’t come up during the course of her hiring. “It simply played no role in the appointments process,” he said. “It was not mentioned and I didn’t mention it to the faculty.”

The Herald later quoted Fried, a former U.S. Solicitor General under President Ronald Reagan, saying, “I can state categorically that the subject of her Native American ancestry never once was mentioned.”

I gotta remember that!

Mom, in all her feminism, tried to get me a job there, like all my male cousins had. Her older brother said something about me needing to get big enough to roll a 50 lb. barrel full of…something…around the plant. Fortunately, my father moved us out to California, and now that I think of it, he may have done that to save me from such a fate.

Ohio Johnny Kasich pulled a similar stunt. Would not surprise me if Trump somehow got the idea from it.

Here is a bit of a story about it, and a link to the full piece at Plunderbund.

Plunderbund - Kasich claims unions are divided, union leaders say that’s “total crap”

This morning the press was called over to Riffe for a big, staged, Kasich event in which he tried to paint the unions as unwilling to compromise or bargain.

Kasich’s people set up big tables with name cards as though they were seriously ready for a meeting with union leaders that had been planned for months.

Kasich knew the unions weren’t going to show up. The whole event was nothing but a big theater production and everyone, including the press, knew this going in.

Still, the press did show up and, to be fair, they asked some good questions. Marc Kovac has videos of the whole thing up at Ohio Capital Blog. But I wanted to focus on one thing Kasich said in particular.

As soon as he gets the mic, Kasich says of the unions “I think frankly that they are pretty divided.”

Which is pretty damn funny considering he was talking a table full of empty chairs
