I was a clarinet major in college. I can’t say it was a living, but I did teach music for a few years before marrying a farmer. Look back on that time with great fondness!

Stuck at the end of the last thread after it had moved on.

re: #159 Hecuba’s daughter

I live in a Congressional district that was represented by old-style Republicans for decades: pro-choice, pro-environment. In 2006, we had a biracial Democratic challenger who hoped to win by bringing out the African American vote in the suburb of Waukegan. Despite substantial effort by the party, the vote was still low and the candidate lost in a close race. My sister who pollwatched in the district discovered that many of the residents actually did not have an official home; they lived with friends and did not know where they were registered to vote. We underestimate the effect of instability in the lives of the poor on their ability to participate in the political realm.

I don’t underestimate it. I was unable to vote at all from 1996-2008 due to homelessness. (I was married and secure again, but had not met the residency requirements to vote in the 2008 election.)

You can’t give your address as “my car” or “under the 11th Street Bridge” on a registration form.

For conservatives that is just fine. Better if you don’t own land, but you have to start rolling back voting rights somewhere.

She’s really into music. The clarinet is her main instrument, but she’s also been studying the oboe, guitar, and keyboard. She dabbled a bit with the French horn and bagpipes for a while, but dropped them because of schedule problems.

That’s wonderful. When I was in college, I decided I wasn’t dedicated enough to go for a solo career, so hit the music education path. For that, you have to be passable on everything (except guitar!), band and orchestra. That was a most enjoyable part of the whole experience.

Slowly. We’re at about 20% right now. As long as I can earn a good part of it, I might be able to cut a deal with one of the local store and make a good down payment and get some trade in value for her old one. Student models are just a couple hundred, but the professional grade ones for $1.5k minimum, with some going as high $3-4k.

Wow, this guy who wrote a letter to my regional newspaper is probably going to be put on high-level blast around here. His last paragraph says he used to be a member of the National Rifle Organization, but left when they became full of hatred.

I am in agreement with all but one item of Michael Shelter’s letter in the Oct. 5, 2017, edition. Forget Congress. There are too many of them that are National Rifle Association members.

What must we do is to enforce the Second Amendment of our Constitution. Here it is in its entirety:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Now, what is a “militia?”

“Militia includes all able-bodied men liable to be called into the armed forces in time of national emergency. The U.S. militia includes the Army National Guard, Marine Corps Reserve and Naval Reserve”

So, if you are not a member of one of those organizations, YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS! PERIOD! END OF DISCUSSION!

Now, I would allow long arms — that is, rifles and shotguns — but I would not allow the average citizen to own a handgun; that is, pistols. That includes revolvers and semi-automatics.

By the way, I was at one time a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), but they became full of hatred. The NRA all but shouted against any person who thought the average citizen should not have handguns.

Nope nope nope, not putting on boards with no brakes on my feet and pointing myself down a mountain. You do you, though.

Driving to Cheyenne tonight I had the first trouble ever driving in high winds. The wind was so high on I-80 near Pine Bluffs, Wyo. that the car was pushed in such a way the anti-skid system came on. (The only time that’s happened before is accelerating too fast on our sand streets, or on ice and snow.)

Geraldo Rivera Says Women “May Be Criminalizing Courtship” (goes to Huffington Post, more at the link, caution for auto-play video):

After longtime “Today” show host Matt Lauer was fired over allegations of sexual misconduct, Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera defended him, claiming that women who come forward with their sexual harassment experiences “may be criminalizing courtship.”

Writing over Twitter on Wednesday that he feels “sad” about Lauer’s termination, Rivera called the host a “great guy” who was “empathetic [with] guests” and “a real gentleman.”

“News is a flirty business,” he continued, later adding: “How do we explain so many newsroom courtships that have led to happy marriages?”

“It seems like [the] current epidemic of #SexualHarassmentAllegations may be criminalizing courtship [and] conflating it [with] predation,” he wrote.

Ayep, this is about getting the base to the polls. And when your entire line for weeks now has been that there’s a conspiracy to rob you of the election, saying that the other side is bringing in “illegal” voters is too good an opportunity to pass up. Even if it’s absolute bullshit, it’s bullshit that could be the difference between limping across the finish line or giving a concession speech in two weeks time.

The head of Russia’s Orthodox Church is launching an investigation into whether the last Czar of Russia, Nicholas II, and his family were victims of a ritual murder carried out by angry Jews in 1918, Church leaders revealed in a statement Tuesday.

“A large share of the church commission members have no doubts that the murder was ritual,” Father Tikhon Shevkunov, the Orthodox bishop heading the panel, told The Associated Press.

Russia’s top investigative agency has also said it will conduct an independent probe into the theory.

As soon as I heard the announcement, that a complaint Monday evening resulted in a firing before start of business Tuesday… I knew there had to be significant evidence. No organization moves that quickly, especially against a highly-paid marquee staffer, unless they’ve got enough proof to know they can make an iron-clad case.

Oops - and please send a picture of what you’re wearing, Joe.

Texas Republican Congressvarmint Smokey Joe Barton ain’t done yet. The nakkid pictures weren’t enough.

Now the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has some more stuff.

An Arlington woman has shared a series of private messages — some with sexual overtones — she exchanged with U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, a week after he apologized for texting a nude photo of himself to another woman.

The boy appears unable to learn from his mistakes.

The messages, which were obtained by the Star-Telegram on Wednesday, included a mix of politics and questions about whether she was “wearing a tank top only..and no panties.”

Barton and the woman exchanged the Facebook messages in 2012 and 2013 while Barton was still married to his second wife, Terri.

Oh Joe, you gotta go.

The early years were pretty good. Keillor had not yet become a crotchety, long-winded senior citizen, the comedy sketches were passably funny, and the musical acts were usually quite good. Here’s the thing I want all the guys saying this is normal and acceptable behavior. Put the other shoe on. Imagine yourself being told by an older woman supervisor or superior, one who you’re not attracted to at all and simply want a business relationship with. Imagine constantly being told that the two of you should date, imagine being bought sex toys by them and being told you should use them on the purchaser, imagine being touched constantly when you don’t want to, etc. These are but many things a lot of women have had to deal with from male superiors.

Indeed. I’ve noticed the same thing ever since he took office. He sees something on F&F and immediately tweets about it, never stopping to consider he, as president, might have better information than they do. It’s like he is literally someone’s dotty old grandpa, and not the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth — so far anyway.

I still would like to believe that he never expected to win the office, and the election has him seriously disoriented, like a severely ADHD kid around too much stimuli.

Joe Scarborough just dropped a massive riff about the mental fitness of Trump. Wow. Every network should pick this up and replay it all day.

If he’s trying to atone for the dozens of phone-in “interviews” he did with Trump during the primaries, with no tough questions… too little too late. One in particular I remember, he asked about his birth certificate claims, Trump said “oh, I don’t want to talk about that anymore”, Scarborough said “okay, what do you want to talk about?” and then Trump got the next ten minutes uninterrupted to talk about whatever the hell he wanted.

Thing is, he doesn’t want any information that contradicts his version of reality. That would be “fake news,” because Trump makes his own reality. A very messed up, contradictory reality subject to change at the drop of a hat. But his reality.

I cannot imagine what working for this maniac would be like. Nor can I imagine why anyone would want to, unless they all want to go down with the ship, too.

And I think Erick would find those feminists he hates have a big problem with “sexy” outfits for four year olds but he’s too busy being a dick.

I never thought that sort of behaviour was normal and acceptable. I’ve never done any of these things, and called them out when I observed them.

In the military, I treated the women assigned under me precisely the same as men (within the bounds of Navy regulations). On my village board (where women are the majority), I treat the women as “trustees” not objects of harassment or conquest.

I don’t touch anyone (male or female) without permission. (At dinner last night, I had a waitress constantly putting her hands on my shoulder and neck, which I found disconcerting from a random person I do not know.)

I really don’t understand that sort of thinking or behaviour.

They might for their own families or close friends. “Who harassed you? I’ll go over and beat his ass.” Someone they don’t know? Well, that takes empathy for another’s feelings.

Thing is, I don’t even need empathy per se for that. “Do I want to be treated that way?” No. Therefore, I don’t treat others that way. It’s pretty simple. I really don’t understand how hard this is. It isn’t just culture (though that certainly plays a part). It doesn’t even have to be an overt determination to harass someone; just not thinking about “what I want to do.”

An 11th-Hour Raid by the Wealthiest Baby Boomers
The Republican tax plan would stick young people with the bill, right as political influence is shifting to America’s diverse younger generations.

The baby boom is being evicted from the penthouse of American politics. And on the way out, it has decided to trash the place.

That’s probably the best way to understand the generational implications of the tax legislation Republicans are driving through Congress.

The House and Senate measures shower enormous benefits on households at the top of the economic ladder, a group that by all indications is older and whiter than the population overall. Then it hands the bill for those benefits largely to younger generations, who will pay through more federal debt; less spending on programs that could benefit them; and, eventually, higher taxes.

(snip)

Measured as a share of the economy, Washington today is spending nearly the lowest amount ever recorded on the domestic discretionary programs that invest in the productivity of future generations, such as education and advanced scientific research. By adding a projected $1.5 trillion to the federal debt, the tax bills will increase the pressure for further cuts. Compounding the effect, the bills would eliminate the deductibility of state and local income taxes; that will make it more difficult for those jurisdictions to raise revenue at a time when they are already retrenching their investments in education.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area.

Trump’s still pushing the insane tax scheme that the GOP is determined to pass at any cost - no matter how much it dumps on the middle class.

The JCT savages the proposals, which shows that the middle class gets screwed while the benefits flow to a select few and corporations.

The GOP really had to try very hard to find a bill that screws over the very people they claim it would help most. Actually, all they did was put together their wishlist of tax schemes to redistribute wealth to the rich and claim that it’s a middle class tax cut.

It isn’t. It ends up screwing everyone but the rich.

But wait, there’s more.

The Administration continues claiming that Trump will see higher taxes as a result of this proposal. That’s still completely bullshit since we know with absolute certainty that most of Trump’s businesses are operated as passthrough entities.

That means that the income passes through to the owner of the entity and they pay tax on it at their tax rate. Since Trump owns these businesses, he would be taxed at the 39.6% rate as it currently stands. If the passthrough income is taxed at 20 or 25%, then the tax cut to Trump is a 19.6 point or 14.6 point drop - he’d stand to see his taxes cut by nearly half. That doesn’t even touch the estate tax nonsense - which Trump doesn’t pay, but his estate would benefit from (therefor his spawn benefits from the repeal).

All the GOP does is lie about all of this, and they are impervious to facts or math.

The White House has developed a plan to force out Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson, whose relationship with President Trump has been strained, and replace him with Mike Pompeo, the C.I.A. director, within the next several weeks, senior administration officials said on Thursday.

Mr. Pompeo would be replaced at the C.I.A. by Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas who has been a key ally of the president on national security matters, according to the White House plan. There can be no consent given by a 14 year old. By law.

It’s statutory rape in AL to engage in sexual acts with a 14 year old. Moore is a sex predator who chose high school girls who were easily intimidated into acts. He could then cover up because he was in position of power.

From the article:

the irony is that older, white America needs more of younger, diverse America to ascend into the middle class so it can generate the tax revenue to support the baby boom’s retirement.

It’s not like the baby boom generation hasn’t been paying into the system for their whole lives.

This is a gem from the article:

Compounding the effect, the bills would eliminate the deductibility of state and local income taxes

Because young people can do that, if they own a house, which they probably don’t. Like it or not, the youth will be paying for medicare and social security for the baby boomers. It’s going to be a big bill.

1/ Said beginning that Donald Trump cannot be impeached. I still believe it to be a *political* impossibility. The numbers aren’t there. Mueller could produce a video of Trump giving Putin a lapdance for a sack of cash and promising the launch codes and it still won’t happen.

There are more than enough grounds with Mueller providing anything: conflict of interest, obstruction of justice, emoluments clause, but the political will is lacking.

That will only change when the GOP starts to see Trump as as a threat to their grasp on power and that has not happened yet

Maybe a failure to pass the horrendous tax bill will be enough to convince some Republicans to jump ship.

The two outcomes I see in the aftermath of the tax bill:

1. It passes, and once any Republican with half a brain realizes that they were snowed and what meager quality of life they currently enjoy changes drastically for the worse, the GOP will face electoral slaughter.

2. It doesn’t pass, and all that sweet oligarch donation money dries up within hours, putting the GOP at a severe fundraising disadvantage, leading to an electoral slaughter due to lack of campaign funds.

I’ve been saying for a long time that the GOP has painted themselves into the Mother of All Corners by even attempting this shit. If the tax bill does not become law, the dirty-money foundation of the modern GOP will be blown to dust.

And that may be the marginally better outcome.

Congratulations, you are not an entitled prick!

Aucun pays pour les vieux ennemis  Nov 30, 2017 • 8:07:52am

I got an email from Bernie Sanders asking me to fight the mad tax plan. We wouldn’t be in this mess if not for Sanders!

Dear MoveOn member,

Throughout my political career, I have asked us all to imagine what our nation’s future could be: a country with a minimum wage that is a living wage; with students graduating college without crushing debt that stifles their ability to pursue their dreams; where health care is recognized as a right for every man, woman, and child; and where we lead other nations in the fight against climate change.

I have asked us to believe that we could level the playing field and create a vibrant democracy where the billionaire class would no longer be able to buy and sell our candidates and elections.

I will always believe in that vision of America—even as I watch Republicans try to pass a tax scam that is literally the opposite agenda of what you and I have championed over the years.

As they continue to fight for more tax giveaways for their wealthy Wall Street donors, less health care for ordinary Americans, and more debt for college students, we must stand up, fight back, and make our voices heard.

That’s why I’m hitting the road—with MoveOn and other partners—to share the message that we must reject this outrageous corporate giveaway. Instead, we need to invest in our communities and build an economy that works for all of us, not just the one percent.

Together, we’re bringing this progressive agenda—which is supported by the vast majority of American voters—to Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania next weekend, with big rallies to push members of Congress to reject this tax scam.

Click here to chip in $3 to help MoveOn, as we go on the road to stop the destructive, obscene, and immoral GOP budget and tax plan.

Over the summer, I went on the road with MoveOn to help defeat the Republican “health care” bill that would have thrown as many as 32 million Americans off of the health insurance that they currently have.

And I’m going on the road again because we have to defeat this bill, too—a tax bill that will slash taxes for the rich, raise taxes on working families, and lay the groundwork for a massive attack on the most vulnerable people in our country.

This bill is an immoral disaster. If it passes, 13 million fewer Americans will be insured, and health care premiums will surge for tens of millions more. Further, the Republican budget cuts Medicaid by $1 trillion over 10 years and Medicare by over $400 billion. In order to give huge tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations, the Republican budget also makes enormous cuts to education, nutrition, affordable housing, and transportation—and will crush college students and college graduates struggling with debt.

In short: This budget will do incalculable harm to tens of millions of working families, women, kids, the sick, the elderly, and the poor. We have to fight this budget and stop it. That’s why I’m hitting the road with MoveOn, and why I’m asking you to support the work that we’re doing.

Can you chip in $3 and join the fight with me?

Now is exactly the time to demand the agenda that we fought so hard for.

Together, we must build a progressive grassroots movement across this country that not only defeats this disastrous legislation, but which leads the struggle to create an economy and government that work for all of us, not just the one percent.

Instead of cutting taxes on the wealthy, let’s increase them—and use that money to pay for universal health care and free tuition at public colleges and universities. Let’s raise the minimum wage to a living wage—$15 an hour—lead the world in combating climate change, transform our broken criminal justice system, and pass comprehensive immigration reform.

This is your agenda. This is my agenda. This is the MoveOn agenda. And we need to fight for it—and against the GOP’s efforts to undermine it. Jeff, I need to know if you are still with me in this fight. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I am in the fight for the progressive agenda.

In solidarity,

-Senator Bernie Sanders

Want to support our work? The MoveOn community will work every moment, day by day and year by year, to resist Trump’s agenda, contain the damage, defeat hate with love, and begin the process of swinging the nation’s pendulum back towards sanity, decency, and the kind of future that we must never give up on. And to do it we need your support, now more than ever. Will you stand with MoveOn?

Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford.

re: #220 Interesting Times

I meant the state party’s apparent refusal to help the Jones campaign. This isn’t the first time a candidate has complained about lack of support from Dem infrastructure (though in that case, it’s the DNC being accused of not helping the state party).

Don’t know why the state party would be doing that. But I can tell you here in Virginia, there is a lot of cooperation between the local and state party. And that’s really why we nearly took the state legislature here. A lot of good lessons can be learned from the Virginia Democratic Party’s experience this year. Perriello was the most gracious losing candidate I’ve ever seen. He went to bat not only for Northam but other candidtes in the state.

GAB.
Hello everyone,

This summer the crowdfunding campaign for our seed round was one of the most impressive campaigns in crowdfunding history. We reached our maximum investment amount of $1,070,000 in just over a month’s time and oversubscribed the round by hundreds of thousands of dollars. More importantly we invited you, our users, to become investors in Gab.

After this wildly successful crowdfunding campaign, we are now excited to announce our next stage of financing. Gab will be one of the first companies in the world to launch a Regulation A+ ICO (Initial Coin Offering.) Through this new form of crowdfunding Gab will be able to raise capital from both cash holders as well as those who hold cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

The SEC allows us to launch what is called a “testing the waters” campaign and allows investors to reserve their spot for the Regulation A+ round. Make sure to grab yours early, we’ve already reserved almost $500,000 for the next round.

We have a big vision for the future. One that takes Gab to the next level and defends the free and open internet for generations to come. We’re calling this The Exodus Protocol. You can learn all about it here and reserve your spot on our testing the waters campaign page.

Gab’s growth has continued to surpass our expectations and we have a lot of exciting new updates, including the ability for you to make money on Gab as a content creator!

GabTV is now fully launched with video uploading and live video/audio broadcasting with tipping enabled for GabPro users.
Gab’s Premium Creator monetization tools are now live. Creators can earn tips and charge a monthly subscription for exclusive subscriber-only premium content. Yes, you can now make money by creating content on Gab.🐸

Finnish court bans Neo-Nazi movement | Yle Uutiset yle.fi

Pirkanmaa District Court has banned the Nordic Resistance Movement (Finnish acronym PVL), a Neo-Nazi organisation with links to similar groups elsewhere in the Nordic countries. The organisation has been disbanded as it ‘flagrantly violated the principles of good practice’, according to the court.

Although it was not a legally constituted association, the police viewed it as an ideologically driven, unregistered association.

The court ruled that it was a violent group that exhorted followers and members to violent acts. The court said that the group was not entitled to freedom of speech protections as its actions violated the human rights of others.

Last year a member, Jesse Torniainen, was sentenced to two years in jail for an aggravated assault at a demonstration in Helsinki. The victim later died in hospital although the court in that case did not agree with prosecutors that his death was down to the injuries sustained in the assault.

wow guys, an unwanted kiss that landed on the cheek of a woman and she is scarred for life.

After the interview, the woman tells us, “I reached out my hand to shake his.” Then, she says, “He took it and leaned toward me with his mouth open. I turned my head away from him and he landed a wet, open-mouthed kiss awkwardly on my cheek.”

The woman says she was in disbelief. “I was stunned and incredulous. I felt demeaned.

The other new Franken accuser said he groped her breast for possibly 5 seconds or more as they posed for a photo during a USO tour.

This sounds like serial bad and juvenile behavior and it should be called out. He should be shamed. But is it a fireable offense?

Times are tough:
Man steals Ferrari, arrested when asking for gas money

A man who was on the run after stealing a $300,000 Ferrari was arrested when police found him soliciting people for gas money.

The Los Angeles Times reports Israel Perez Rangel, 38, walked into the Ferrari & Maserati of Newport Beach and stole the Ferrari 458 Spider while it was parked in the service center Oct. 19. Security footage reportedly shows the man wearing a Ferrari jacket, looking in a few car windows and then driving off. The newspaper reports an employee had left the key on the passenger seat.

Israel was eventually apprehended by police when they approached him at a gas station where he was asking for gas money. The car appeared to be in rough shape, having “cracked fins, a destroyed gearbox, emblems torn for the engine and body and missing paddle shifters and vomit caked on the side.”

I hate Barton with the heat of a thousand fires and don’t have a lot of sympathy for him. He is a complete hypocrite. And I certainly think his sending a dick pic is gross and stupid. However, it appears that he was engaged in a consensual sexual relationship with an adult woman.

If we start calling for heads over adultery or hypocrisy, then we won’t have many congressmen left. That said, I am delighted he will not run again.

It wont matter as far as balance of the House though. His district is blood red.

As always, he’s full o’shit.

Here’s part of the “fair and balanced” email his buddy Lindsey sent out yesterday:

TAX REFORM IN THE SENATE

Dear Friend,

The United States Senate will begin debating tax reform tonight and I want to hear from you on this important issue facing our nation.

Supporters of Tax Reform:
President Trump supports tax reform and has pushed the Senate to pass this important piece of his agenda for America. In fact, he came to the Senate yesterday to push Senators to support this plan. His pitch was simple – hard working Americans should be allowed to keep more of what they earn. According to the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, in South Carolina the average family would be allowed to keep $2,391 more in their pocket. The legislation also will benefit business by creating more than 13,000 jobs in our state.

Opponents of Tax Reform:
Opponents of tax reform have said they believe it is unnecessary and the Senate should defeat it when it comes up for a vote. They have expressed concerns that tax reform could benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle and lower income Americans. They have not offered an alternative proposal and feel our current tax system is working as intended.

Also full o’shit.

Brief Thanksgiving tale. Not much political conversation around the table (although my nephew did tell he that he had it out with his banshee mother a few days earlier—she was still going on about Obama being a Muslim, and my nephew called her a racist—good times). My brother’s big concern seemed to be whether cartoon characters ever blink. Families are such fun.

As always, he’s full o’shit.

Here’s part of the “fair and balanced” email his buddy Lindsey sent out yesterday:

Also full o’shit.

Brief Thanksgiving tale. Not much political conversation around the table (although my nephew did tell he that he had it out with his banshee mother a few days earlier—she was still going on about Obama being a Muslim, and my nephew called her a racist—good times). My brother’s big concern seemed to be whether cartoon characters ever blink. Families are such fun.

“Have not offered an alternative” because it doesn’t need to change for the worse.

There is no benefit to be gained from not seating Franken’s duly appointed replacement. McConnell would still need 50 votes to pass the tax bill. 49 is not half of 99.

Also remember, they just need a flat majority with the shenanigans they are pulling right now since they use reconciliation rules…and 49 to 47 still wins.

Legislation could pass with Pence breaking a 49:49 tie. Lets them have an abstention/absence in addition to 2 no votes.

Apply to ACA vote. Franken’s gone, vote’s held with McCain still back in Arizona. ACA overturned 49:49 with Pence breaking tie.

Not there, not voting or…not seated. It gives McConnell one more vote he can afford to lose.

Two things to remember:

1)Merick Garland
2) McCain unexpectedly sinking the Obamacare reform bill.

McConnell will break all the metaphorical china in the legislative giftshop to keep another McCain incident from happening. Keeping one more Dem out gives them that much more room.

Yes I do, actually. The count of women Franken has harassed is now at six and rising. And its not “gamesmanship.” Its about being the Party that actually cares about women’s right to be full participants in society. For Democrats to be that they shouldn’t be the Party that only cares about sexual harassment of women if its the other guys who do it. Let the GOP be the Party that supports sexual predators. I like Franken too. I liked him on SNL; I bought his books. But he is not irreplaceable. on the count of women, you are, and (sadly) were correct from the start. you said the number would grow and it is growing.

as i wrote now 10 days ago, i think using the word “harassed” is an error:

ill state right off i dont know all the facts and ianal

this is co-opted off the eeoc and wikipedia - ymmv

i dont see sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, use of nasty or threatening language. it doesnt appear that there was any hostile or offensive work environment. and no one seems to have complained to anyone in authority at the time.

the incidents seem to be open to differing and questionable interpretations. incidents that do not impose a “general civility code” tend to be excluded as harassment.

i dont see asymmetrical power, no bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, no unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors

that’s why its not “harassment”. which has a specific and legal meaning

i would use another word instead of “harassing”

He’s apologized, he’s volunteered for an ethics investigation and will submit without complaint to whatever the ethics committee decides. He probably won’t run for reelection. Why isn’t that enough?

Whatever happened to sense of proportion? Are we really going to go zero tolerance? Is TPing a house on Halloween deserving of the same penalties as throwing rocks through a window? Is patting someone’s ass for a second during a photo op really due the same consequences as making a staffer come to your office or hotel room and making them look at your dick?

There has to be some kind of sliding scale;

If we start calling for heads over adultery or hypocrisy, then we won’t have many congressmen left. That said, I am delighted he will not run again.

It wont matter as far as balance of the House though. His district is blood red.
