The President’s new tax bill appears to favor the average golf course-owning, private plane-flying millionaire. Sound like anyone we know?

Which is why the real problem is GOP power in Congress and the state houses. For a party of cranks, creationists and cretins led by rich psychopaths, they are way too good at seizing and holding power.

I’m coming to the conclusion that the reason US politics basically worked for much of the 20-th century was 40 years of uninterrupted Democratic control of the House of Representatives.

Certainly and we wouldn’t have that prick Gorsuch on the USSC indefinitely either. I’m never goign to stop being angry about that. I wanted to throttle DF when he defended that cowardly bullshit by McConnell. I hope should one of the liberal justices die while Trump or any Republican is President, the Dems pull the same stunt in return. It goes against everything I beleive in but you know what, they stole that seat from us. They stole a chance to reverse a lot of the bad decisions made by the court when Scalia was there because they simply couldn’t accept that Scalia died in a Democrat’s presidency.

Except if the Dems did try and pull that, the full force of the media machine would likely result in mass resignations and/or impeachments from the sheer volume of outrage.

Our system is so inadequately designed to handle regular bad faith operation that it routinely punishes the former and rewards the latter.

If Trump gets removed from office for crimes etc. and the Democrats end up with the presidency and large enough Congressional majorities, I think wholesale removal from office of all Trump appointees would be thoroughly justified.

I don’t see it happening before the vote on Wealthcare. Why? Because as soon as that happens, his legislative agenda is pretty much DOA and Republicans will run screaming from any bill he’s touched. So Cobb is probably working extra hard to keep him from blowing his top tonight, on the assurances from Yertle that this bill will pass.

And if things look like they’re moving toward impeachment or criminal charges, the entire legislative agenda comes to a screeching halt as all attention becomes focused on that.

It is for that reason the Wealthcare for Billionaires bill is being pushed so hard now: They may view this as their last chance.

Look. I used the word I thought described the person. I understand that for some here in the US, it is the the worst word a person can use. But fortunately I have had the opportunity to travel to many places around the world, and if you have spent any time in pubs, sporting events etc, the word is definitely thrown around, but in a different way than here. And definitely dont go to Australia.
If my using the word offended anybody, I apologize to them, and I don’t harbor any ill feelings towards those who took shots a me because of my initial post. There are a lot more important issues going on around us these days than to get hung on the small things like this.
And if some people still want me to leave this forum, I will. Just point me toward another place where there is intelligent conversation like there is here.

Just conform to local custom with respect to that usage and there will be no further trouble. On the other hand, you should expect to get more static if you insist on using that word here going forward. The fact that it is more acceptable elsewhere is thoroughly irrelevant.

Most of us have given up using ginger to describe Chucky J because it’s considered a very specific insult in Great Britain.

I don’t think you need to leave. It’s just one of those words that a number of us have sworn off of. And I know some of the women think it’s OK, and it’s probably their right to use it, in the same way that I can’t use the n-word.

Decades? They were pushing it in the late 1800’s. That same push brought us the Great Depression, and made it worse when Herbert Hoover’s Treasury Secretary, Andrew Mellon (one of the richest men in the world at the time) pushed for tax cuts for the wealthy during the Depression.

And Hoover was Nazi-curious as well, speaking favourably of Hitler when he came back from a trip to Nazi Germany.

I don’t get why people keep claiming “the GOP changed but I didn’t.” They have always been this way: The only change has been to pull the racists out of the Democratic Party after Wallace.

So they are going to pass a bill that nobody can even READ, purely on the grounds that a Republican proposed it and a Republican will sign it. What the fuck is wrong with the partisan politics in this country.

Tax reform is taking over Washington, so much so that more than half of all registered lobbyists have disclosed working on the issue, according to an analysis from Public Citizen, a government watchdog group.

There are just under 11,000 active lobbyists in the nation’s capital, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), and more than half of them — 6,243 — have reported working on taxes this year, according to the report, which relies on CRP data.

Spread out over Capitol Hill, that means there are more than 11 lobbyists working on taxes for every member of Congress.

Von Clownstick’s use of US nukes is related almost entirely to how he sees the Mueller investigation proceeding.

If he ever does feel a real threat from that, he’ll immediately make himself a ‘wartime president’, with a depressingly high chance of that leading to complete political victory on all fronts.

So let’s all hope his advisors are so good at plying Trump with happy-fun news to stroke his ego that he gets caught completely by surprise and doesn’t have time to launch nukes before he’s arrested.

Huntsman may have been the least objectionable GOP candidate in 2012. One may as well ask who was the least evil top Nazi.

IIRC this supposed ‘moderate’ wanted to completely eliminate the capital gains tax. That’s kind of like a RWNJ equivalent to the modest proposal of nationalizing all means of production.

I think this action by Republicans is because of two things. The first is obviously the donors saying give us money or we won’t give you any. But the second is that Republicans have been scared by the elections since the beginning of the year. They’ve had to fight for ones they should win easily, and they got shellacked in VA. They keep losing on Oklahoma. They know what’s coming next November, and all they can think to do is pile money on top of themselves in hopes of surviving the metaphorical bomb that will go off.

re: #314 JordanRules

Nazis have been all up in the GOP, on police forces all over America etc, etc.

When I compared what was happening to 1930’s Germany, my RW brother mocked me and declaimed that anyone who resorts to Nazi comparisons has lost the argument. Looks like the Republicans are infested with actual real life Nazis. So we are transitioning from Ayn Rand sociopaths like McConnell and Ryan who worship the power of wealth to hate-infused racist sociopaths like Congressman Steven King with Trump as the intermediary who has a foot in both camps.

Yep guys like King are going to be the mainstream of the party. Fewer and fewer Millenais may associate with the GOP but those who are very very very racist. and they will be leading the party in the years to come.

Does your brother understand that declaring the other side has lost the argument isn’t actually an argument?

I am taking just a smidge of comfort inn the fact that we’re pushing within a few minutes of midnight and there is still *something* keeping the Shit Sandwich Act of 2017 from getting a final vote rammed through.

Every minute it stays exposed to scrutiny makes this thing look worse to the voters of 2018 and 2020, and the GOP knows it.

And they STILL have to make anything that survives tonight pass through conference committee.

I’m getting juiced up to go stand outside in DC and make noise. Who’s coming?

Fighting of the despair with booze, but tomorrow always comes. My husband threw out his back and can barely move right now. He’s recovering from a heart attack. He MUST exercise, but he can’t. The walls are closing in. He has diabetes also. When we can’t afford insurance after this Republican shitfest, Insulin will cost at least $500 a month. Probably a thousand as the merciless insurance companies jack up the price. We are about to be thrown into the dumpster and Republicans could not give one shit.

This is not how either one of us ever thought our country would turn out. Jesus.

Fuck.

I’m terribly sorry to hear about your husband’s plight.

As for the GOP “shitfest,” it ain’t over yet for the Democrats.

He claims he is repeating what others far more intelligent have said. OTOH, after the Democratic convention, he is the one who said to us that the “Democrat” convention appeared to be orchestrated by Goebbels. He reassured us that the tax plan would lead to 4% economic growth. It is amazing how he regurgitates all the wing nut memes; but living in Texas can do that to you.

On a 50/50 vote on an amendment, does Mike Pence have to come in and break the tie?

Mike Godwin revoked that rule, considering we’re dealing with actual Nazis.
