Who Shopped the Fake Document Smearing Chuck Schumer? None Other Than Holocaust Denier Chuck C. Johnson.

Chuck may be in serious trouble this time
US News • Views: 57,432

For years I’ve been saying that with their ridiculously slipshod standards and willingness to believe and circulate any smear against their perceived enemies, right wing “journalists” and bloggers have been setting themselves up for a major hoax that would end up getting one or more of them in serious trouble.

That day may have come round at last.

The back story: someone has been shopping around to various media outlets a PDF document that purported to show sexual harassment allegations against Sen. Chuck Schumer by a former staffer.

Allegations of sexual harassment against politicians and other powerful men are big news right now, and as soon as they heard about this document, a slew of media organizations began the feeding frenzy.

The source tells Axios that reporters from the Washington Post, CNN, BuzzFeed, The New Yorker and ABC all inquired about the document Tuesday.

However — the document was quickly revealed to be a sloppy forgery, and the former staffer named in it has reported it to the Washington DC Police and Capitol Police.

The former staffer said she took the matter to Washington, D.C. police on Tuesday. She said the police told her they were unsure of their jurisdiction in the case. She said she now plans to go to Capitol Police.

She told me in a statement: “The claims in this document are completely false, my signature is forged, and even basic facts about me are wrong. I have contacted law enforcement to determine who is responsible. I parted with Senator Schumer’s office on good terms and have nothing but the fondest memories of my time there.”

And now for the kicker: guess who turns out to be behind this document?

Yes, it’s our old pal the Holocaust denier, Chuck C. Johnson, who hooked up with rape aficionado Mike Cernovich to spread the smear against Schumer.

Journalist Will Sommer highlighted some Facebook posts by the Rage Furby yesterday, boasting about this alliance with Cernovich. He also posted a screenshot of a tweet by Cernovich hyping the fake document, which Creepy Mike has now deleted; Cernovich is now trying to pretend he never hyped the document.

Now that the fraud has been exposed and he’s in big trouble, Johnson is desperately back-pedaling, claiming that some anonymous person “sent” the document to him, and offering $10,000 for the identity of this possibly imaginary individual.

Most people seem to be assuming the target of this hoax was Chuck Schumer, but if it’s true that Johnson didn’t create it himself (an assertion we shouldn’t necessarily take at face value because Chuck is an inveterate liar) I think it’s also possible it was a sting intended to bring down Chuck C. Johnson — because he’s recently been involved in a very nasty war of words with master ratfcker Roger Stone, and this has the smell of a setup to burn the Rage Furby and anyone who worked with him to promote it.

Our boy Chuck has had a serious run-in with the Capitol Police before, when he tried to crash a fundraiser for John Boehner last year. He was detained, frisked and questioned. So they’ll have a file on Chuck and his stalking behavior.

And just as a matter of record, Chuck has also stalked yours truly in real life, showing up at an apartment building where I used to live and posting photos on Twitter of himself standing outside the building. This is the kind of activity he enjoys.

But this time, Chuck may have finally crossed the line into outright criminal behavior, all because he was too excited about “taking down” Chuck Schumer to do basic fact-checking first. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Dear Santa,
I have tried very hard to be a good girl this year, under very trying circumstances. All I really want for Christmas is an arrest warrant for a certain pro-rapist rapey shitmuffin and an evil red demon elf. I promise I won’t ask for anything else and will leave you some lovely baked goods on Christmas Eve.

It’s widely considered one of the greatest monologues in cinema history. Chaplin wrote it himself and he did a damn fine job, I’d say.

Well, this is going to be a bit of a legal tangle.

Schumer probably can’t sue because Times v. Sullivan … but the staffer who was being used as a pawn is NOT a public figure, and spreading allegations without checking with her or verifying them in any way … to multiple news organizations … sure sounds like that would meet the standard of both “publishing” and “reckless disregard for the truth.”

At that point, yes, legal penalties would attach. And trying to ratfuck the Democratic Senate Leader will, shall we say, motivate some people to seek payback.

IT WAS A SIGN YOU FOOLS

Burns and other evangelical leaders were in the Oval Office on Monday to present President Trump an award in gratitude for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the state of Israel. Then something unusual happened: “A spider almost ate him,” Burns said Tuesday.

In Burns’s account, he was standing behind Trump, who was seated at the Resolute desk in the Oval Office, when he noticed a white spider the size of a half-dollar making its way up the president’s back.

“I just thought I was dreaming,” recounted Burns in a telephone interview. “Is that really a spider running up the back of the president of the United States?”

We aren’t the only country suffering from the depredations of Christian fundamentalism:

Rio’s Pentecostal mayor takes on the capital of Carnival

The mayor of this sultry metropolis slashed funding for Carnival, its gay pride parade and a procession honoring an Afro-Brazilian goddess. Mayor Marcelo Crivella, a Pentecostal Christian, calls the moves fiscal prudence. But Rio’s libertines see a thinly veiled crusade to impose God’s law from city hall.

As political polarization intensifies in the United States, Latin America’s largest nation is locked in its own escalating culture wars, with the rise of an increasingly powerful religious right.

Evangelical politicians such as Crivella — a 60-year old bishop and former gospel singer who once claimed homosexuality could result from botched abortions — are finding enormous success in Brazil. Their rise comes as conservative Protestant faiths make massive inroads in this predominantly Catholic country and as corruption scandals taint traditional parties, causing more Brazilians to vote outside the box.

Torts is a huge doggie fan and runs a foundation to help rescue and place dogs along with other activities. The guy doing the radio interview (97.1 FM Columbus The Fan) is also a supporter of Torts’ foundation.

True: Bernie seems to base his whole political shtick on the classic (but always-dubious and now, VERY old-hat) socialist analysis that “working-class anxiety” is virtually exclusively a matter of sheer economic interest, and that the less-savory aspects of said “anxiety” (and in America, those would be endemic racism, sexism, near-paranoid xenophobia, religious nuttery, etc) can be hand-waved away by appeals to “self-interest”. Patreon reversed the fee change that cost a lot of people their $1/mo patrons.

The Bob Cesca Show posted
Patreon Cancels Fee Change

Some of you who support the show through our Patreon page have expressed anger and disappointment with the new Patreon fee structure. Simply put: Patreon decided to charge the credit card processing fees to subscribers (patrons) rather than deducting the fees from the monthly total paid to creators like me.

For example, with the old system, a $1-per-month subscription only netted creators like me 80-88 cents. In the new system, this change would’ve added around 38-cents to each $1 monthly charge instead of deducting the 38-cents from the payment to creators. Same goes for $5, $10 and $15 subscribers. Ultimately the change meant I would’ve been able to keep 95% of the monthly subscriptions, whereas before, creators only kept around 80-88%.

Long story short, subscribers revolted, and I lost at least a dozen-plus subscribers in the process.

Today, we received word that Patreon is reversing course and returning to the old fee structure in which I and other creators absorb all of the processing fees.

I got this from the Jones campaign…

—-, I’m so proud to tell you:

We WON the U.S. Senate race in Alabama!

Seven months ago when we launched this campaign, there weren’t a whole lot of people who thought a Democrat could win in this state.

But you did. Thousands and thousands of good Americans stepped up to win this race for Alabama and for our country. We ran a historic campaign and gave Alabamians something to be proud of, —-.

We went to the people and talked to them about the issues that mattered to them: affordable healthcare, creating good paying jobs, and making this a more fair and just country.

And most importantly, we listened.

This historic victory is yours as much as it is mine. So every single day I serve as Alabama’s next U.S. Senator, I will remember that.

I will remember the single mother who is worried her child might lose health insurance if we don’t fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program. I will remember the former iron workers whose jobs were shipped overseas at no fault of their own.

I will remember the courageous women who used their voices to speak out about the pain brought upon them by our opponent.

And I will remember the hope felt by the thousands of people I met across the state who want a better future for this country.

In the U.S. Senate, I will be a voice that hopefully makes you proud, whether we agree or disagree.

So from the bottom of my heart, —-, I thank you so much for your support in this race. We made history and no one will ever forget what we did here in Alabama.

Eternally grateful,

Doug Jones
U.S. Senator-Elect

Nice letter.

I would propose that you could actually take most of the elements of the prequels and make a far more satisfying film trilogy that would feel like a good Darth Vader origin story and a satisfying crash of the Republic.

Of the prequel films, Revenge of the Sith was pretty decent. What saved it was a masterful performance by Ian McDiarmid (and a solid performance by Ewan McGregor) and that the script was given an uncredited polishing by the playwright Tom Stoppard. Even with that, the dialogue was a bit clunky here and there.

If GOP isn’t scared pantless by this outcome in Alabama then more power to them…. the Dem’s have been making a difference in big races and small ones….

from places like New Hampshire and Oklahoma, local races, Democratic candidates are winning in districts that we’re thought to be unreachable… the Virginia gerrymander was overcome in November, we nearly brought off the congressional Georgia race, Montana was also close and the win in New Jersey statehouse.

This is indeed a wave and as the GOP attempts to burn the fields and bring up the ladder behind them, people are paying attention and holding them accountable. Watching them piss on how lawmaking is done, doing their deeds in secret all the while decrying their opponents as actors in bad faith.

As the Russia investigation plays out, the battle hasn’t been won as of yet, but once the financial and logistical ties of assistance from a foreign power to not only Trump but the entire GOP there will be a reckoning and as we watch, we’re seeing the self-immolation of a political party unfold before our very eyes. In a way that scares the crap out of me because as a Democracy, we need at least two relevant parties, arguing on behalf of a set of principles and ideas as I have no illusions that the Dems have the market cornered on good ideas and yet, the GOP has abandoned all good faith in both the function of government and the ideals of the country to find themselves adrift, morally bankrupt and ethically devoid of purpose, unless you consider IGMFY an ethos for a rational national party.

The fundamental problem with the trilogy that is irreparable is that Anakin never went through a character arc. We all knew he was going to be Darth Vader some day but it would have been a much more interesting story if he was a likable good guy like his son that got corrupted by the dark side of the force.

See that would have made Return of the Jedi’s ending more meaningful as well. Consider Anakin facing the emperor alone (without his father) getting the same choice Luke was provided but in his case he chose dark.

We would have known that was going to happen going in but it could have been a good story and more tragic, only to be redeemed in Return of the Jedi.

They way they tell the story now is Anakin was always kind of an angry jerk so why did he even bother helping Luke in the end? That kindly old dying version of himself never existed in the prequels so where did he come from?

Hey Roy Moore, looks like there’s a job opening at FLDS.

bbc.com

A former leader of a breakaway polygamous Mormon sect has been given a nearly five-year sentence for fraud and fleeing house arrest in Utah.

Lyle Jeffs admitted to orchestrating what authorities have called the nation’s largest scheme to defraud the federal food benefits programme.

He was arrested in June after nearly a year on the run and has pleaded guilty.

His brother and former Mormon leader Warren Jeffs was jailed in 2011 on child sexual assault charges.

Warren Jeffs, the former president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), was found guilty of forcing two underage girls into “spiritual marriage” and fathering a child with one of them when she was 15.

Lyle Jeffs, a former FLDS bishop, told a federal judge in Salt Lake City on Wednesday that he “humbly and respectfully say I acknowledge my mistakes and decision-making”.

re: #224 John Carter

The fundamental problem with the trilogy that is irreparable is that Anakin never went through a character arc. We all knew he was going to be Darth Vader some day but it would have been a much more interesting story if he was a likable good guy like his son that got corrupted by the dark side of the force.

See that would have made Return of the Jedi’s ending more meaningful as well. Consider Anakin facing the emperor alone (without his father) getting the same choice Luke was provided but in his case he chose dark.

We would have know that was going to happen going in but it could have been a good story and more tragic, only to be redeemed in Return of the Jedi.

They way they tell the story now is Anakin was also kind of an angry jerk so why did he even bother helping Luke in the end? That kindly old dying version of himself never existed in the prequels so where did he come from?

There was a blog post where a guy suggested what he called “Machete Order” for watching the movies. That is.

IV A New Hope
V Empire Strikes Back
II The Clone Wars
III Revenge of the Sith
VI Return of the Jedi

With 1 left out, as a way of dealing with some of those structural issues. It’s especially useful for introducing someone to the series.

Just as an aside, best to worst: V, Rogue One, IV, VI, VII, III, II ……………………………… I

That too. The whole notion of light sabers indicates a colossal disdain for the viewer’s intelligence.

But they look cool.

Star Wars requires the same level of suspension of disbelief as any other fantasy story. If something like the force actually existed, the killer moves in force duels would be things like ‘collapse lung’, ‘blood clot in the foes brain’ and ‘testicular torsion’, instead of lightsaber moves and stupidly tossing the scenery at each other.

Yeah Republican voters embraced Moore.

And I’ll go with Charlie Pierce’s final word on the story:

I choose to believe that Selma put Doug Jones over the top because I believe that the country owes that particular place a debt that it only has begun to repay, a debt on which it reneged for decades. His entire campaign was based on getting repayment of that debt back on schedule. Indeed, his entire public career has been dedicated to that. He’s smart enough to recognize what a small miracle his victory actually was for the disenfranchised people on whose behalf he fought and won, and decent enough not to turn his back on them.

Perez seems to be doing pretty well. I think we can stick with him.

I think Whitebeach has missed some of Perez’s comments on his strategies now that he is in charge. He is planning to try his best to run a 50 State strategy. He just needs to reconfigure the funding as it was set up to push the top ticket too much. He even mentioned Nebraska as a target which I had posted a few weeks ago in a comment to anymouse.

He has to also gather the party back together from some of the Sanders damage. He’s trying to work with him, and I think he is trying some tough love in doing it so he can get some of Bernie’s backers to stay with the party.

re: #236 whitebeach

Nah. The fundamental problem with SW is that they are so-so car-chase movies set in space, with elements of bad pirate and war movies thrown in. Issues of character development are about as relevant as they would be in a white-hat/black-hat Western.

Westerns are typically not epics that take place over 9 episodes.

The prequels were fundamentally a Darth Vader origin story.

I agree the special effects, the sword fighting, the weird aliens and the spaceships are the main attraction but would it kill them to string a decent story together?

Anyway, I don’t think so because a lot of people complain about how they don’t like the movies and just go out of some sort of nostalgic obligation.

Yup. Mr. Perez is working with our new state party leader Jane Kleeb (who was a Sanders supporter) and working to get Jane Reybould elected over Sen. Deb Fischer.

All the alleged advantages that Sen. Fischer would have in an election are taken away from her. Jane Reybould is a woman, a farmer, lifelong Nebraska resident, &c. All the fluff of a campaign would be taken away and it then comes down to simply issues.

Mrs. Reybould is looking to run a campaign similar to Senator-elect Doug Jones (!-! Congrats Alabama), focusing on so-called “kitchen table issues.”

Today he learned to open the dresser drawers to burrow under my clothes. Then he went over the back of the drawer and got stuck behind it. Got him out, turned my back, and he did it again. My dresser is now protected with bungie cords. The little shit.

The view of the leadership is so long as they get Wealthcare passed, next year will take care of itself. Enough people will see a “cut” in their taxes next year to fool them until November. And when the cornholing starts to happen in 2020, they just blame the Democrats and promise more “cuts.”

“It has come to our attention that Vice President Pence intends to make an official visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and asked me to receive him officially,” Adeeb Joudeh, who is responsible for the keys to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, wrote in a letter on Wednesday, according to Israel’s Channel 2 News.

“I absolutely refuse to officially welcome the American Vice President Mr. Mike Pence at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and I will not be physically in church during his visit,” he continued.

Calling yourself out for a fundamental wrong is the hardest part. Moreover, he opens himself up to lawsuits with his published admission. He opens himself up to taking his public lumps, and maybe destroying anything left of a career he has. He did that willingly.

I’m with you. He knew he was doing wrong when he did it in most of his admitted “failings” so he can’t claim some new revelation. The overall tone screams martyr, IMO. No. Can’t give him that when he’s left such a trail of hurt by being an asshole.

We should now give him a cookie for rising to the level of a decent human being?

He doesn’t ask for forgiveness in the letter. He accepts responsibility and vows to do better.

Does he get a cookie? No, he’s probably going to get one or more lawsuits.

The only thing I would give him a cookie for is admitting he was wrong and saying he intends to do better (trust but verify applies). How many other powerful and unknown men will never admit they were wrong?

I hope he does. I think what makes the warning light go off in my head about it is the public nature of it, like a Jimmy Swaggart weeping “I have sinned!” for the cameras so he can continue the grift all shiny clean and forgiven. Feels about as sincere.

Just not feeling that forgiving. But then I don’t have to be. His issue is with the women he has damaged. They are the ones he should be talking to.

re: #385 Stanley Sea

So many good quotes.

This bit about The Ramones is

so

dead on.

It seems like any idiot can do it. I can take my guitar out of the basement and hand it to you and in half an hour you can play Louie Louie but you have to have something else for it to be great. Have you ever met the Ramones? Joey was a fairly smart guy with a lot of problems. He had to put his coffee cup down a 150 times—and Dee Dee, he was literally like the idiot savant. I had the manuscript of his first book and literally he used to like, type letters backwards—it’s actually a pretty good book. But to be like that, to be hopeless and retarded and still make something really great out of it … part of it is the chemistry, the time, the place … like my favorite picture of them on the subway, Johnny’s got his guitar in a paper shopping bag! But it was real. He could afford a guitar but he couldn’t afford a case with it. The case was ten dollars extra. Who had ten dollars?

The first show I played with the Ramones was in a club with a raised dance floor, and when Joey came in he took the first step up 5 times before he stepped up. I thought he was just too high to step up. I learned later it was pretty extreme OCD.

That can’t be done with just a law. A current Congress cannot legally bind the actions of a future Congress.

A Constitutional amendment would get the job done, but if we start amending the Constitution to deal with every possible Republican dereliction of duty, it would end up being 10,000 pages long and not even close to complete.

Good old-fashioned retaliation is the best response.

Yeah makes me wonder about how these guys were raised and taught.

A lot of boys were not taught that it was wrong. There may have been some vague handwaving, but probably not. And some people need to be told, in the same way that people need to be told not to plagiarize.

I, on the other hand, have told my kids I will hunt them down from beyond the grave if they ever do something like that.

Ms. Manigault is going to be on Good Morning America? Why does the media insist on pushing wingnuts in front of the cameras? Betcha they don’t even have someone on for “balance.”

One reason I don’t own a television set. (That and no signals or cable service here, but I didn’t have a TV before I moved here.)

Saying “they were never taught” absolves such men of being responsible for their own actions. I don’t believe I ever met a parent that would allow a male child to make remarks or be grabby with women (or anyone) without a rebuke.

I don’t stand for that sort of conversation around me either.

A lack of partisan balance for this is much more forgivable than usual. She’s going to be on Good Morning America because the show hopes that she will gossip about the Trump White House, and I sure hope she has lots of juicy material to share.

Given the positions that Moore espoused and still managed to win an overwhelming margin among the white voters, this wouldn’t be surprising at all, especially in this White House. Think about how Kelly insulted Frederica Wilson a few months ago.

I knew that some busted perv would off himself if enough of them were busted. Consequences to the perpetrator, self inflicted or not, should not be a consideration when these creeps are exposed.

In this case, I definitely consider it to be an act of cowardice and shame, because it denies Johnson’s victim(s) their day in court to get their measure of justice.

It could also be an act of total despair and hopelessness. His sins were not private; they were published for all to see. He may have been totally corrupt and hateful, but that doesn’t mean he is exempt from normal human reactions to facing contempt from all those who may have respected him or cared for him.
