Anti-Trump Inauguration Protesters Found Not Guilty on All Charges

Law • Views: 32,162

Here’s a bit of good news as we approach the end of a week of awful news: Inauguration Protesters Found Not Guilty On All Charges In Jury Trial.

The first trial — for Jennifer Armento, of Philadelphia; Michelle Macchio, of Asheville, N.C.; Oliver Harris, of Philadelphia; Brittne Lawson, of Aspinwall, Pa.; Christina Simmons, of Cockeysville, Md.; and Alexei Wood, of San Antonio, Texas — started in mid-November.

The jury began deliberating on Dec. 15. The six defendants faced seven charges: Five felony counts of property destruction, along with two misdemeanor counts of engaging in a riot and conspiracy to riot. The felony charges carry maximum penalties of 10 years in jail and a $25,000 fine. The misdemeanors have maximum penalties of 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The defendants initially faced an additional felony charge for inciting a riot, but Judge Lynn Leibovitz dismissed that count at the end of the trial. Leibovitz denied a motion from the defense to dismiss the rest of the charges as well, though.

There was no evidence presented at the first trial that any of the six defendants were the ones who broke windows on Jan. 20. The prosecution’s theory was that they were all still criminally responsible because they were there to support the rioters.

So the first outrageous attempt by the Trump administration to criminalize dissent has been shut down. However, Trump’s corrupt DOJ is still planning to attempt to prosecute nearly 200 more protesters.

Here’s a legal question…so this judge found that none of the people charged in this trial were guilty of any of the stupid charges leveled at them…there’s 200 more protesters in line to be tried for the same things. Isn’t this a huge waste of time and money? Can the court say “nope, this is stupid we’ve been to this rodeo before”?

Also too, using the DoJ’s logic here, wouldn’t the Nazis who were in attendance in Charlottesville be complicit in murder since one of their guys actually killed Heather Heyer and was charged with her murder and found guilty? Where are their charges?

That’s probably true. Most voters in red-states will have substituted propaganda for news, so they’ll think the tax-scam is great.

On the other hand, the fact they held firm might help galvanize and motivate apathetic Dems who otherwise wouldn’t bother to vote (or, who would’ve stayed home had those red-state Dems gone along with Cheeto Benito)

re: #63 Charles Johnson

When I open an an avocado, I take the following steps.

1. Cut around lengthwise
2. Twist off 1 half
3. Wack my knife into the pit
4. Twist the knife it to pull the pit from the flesh
5. Scoop the insides from the skin with a spoon

I’m going to guess that steps 1, 3 and 4 up the chances of a knife injury. With a lot of fruits and veggies you’re keeping the thing you’re cutting on the cutting board and keeping digits out of the way by guiding the blade with your knuckles.

That’s the way I’ve always done it, the way I was taught to when I worked in kitchens. I’ve never cut myself because if you keep your knife sharp it doesn’t take much effort and the blade is easier to control. If your knife isn’t sharp you have to use more force and it can slide off the pit.

re: #66 Charles Johnson

Here’s what you do. You take a steak knife and cut around the avocado. Then pull the avo apart. You do NOT need to whack the pit with a sharp knife to pull it out. (I’m guessing this is where the injuries happen.) Just take the half with the pit and gently squeeze. Pit will pop out no problem. Then, if you are dicing the avo for guac, just do a few horizontal and vertical cuts with the avo halves still in the skin. Take a spoon and scoop that shit out.

Never a chance to cut yourself.

re: #70 Weaselone

When I open an an avocado, I take the following steps.

1. Cut around lengthwise
2. Twist off 1 half
3. Wack my knife into the pit
4. Twist the knife it to pull the pit from the flesh
5. Scoop the insides from the skin with a spoon

I’m going to guess that steps 1, 3 and 4 up the chances of a knife injury. With a lot of fruits and veggies you’re keeping the thing you’re cutting on the cutting board and keeping digits out of the way by guiding the blade with your knuckles.

I don’t eat avocados, but couldn’t one just scoop the pit out with a spoon?

Prying with a spoon leaves apprentice marks on it, no good if you’re serving $5 avacado toast.

What I gather from this thread is that avocados are not to be trusted and should be avoided to avoid amputation.

Yes, I’ve always removed the pit with a spoon, too. That must be how I’ve miraculously escaped horrific injury.

Well that’s me, living on the edge all these decades. Never got a scratch despite using the knife to chop into the seed and twisting.

He’s one who got caught.

Mr. Milken was among hundreds of people who donated stock to charities near price peaks or a few weeks before the stocks tanked, a Wall Street Journal analysis of federal data shows. Such donations occurred more often than chance would dictate, according to researchers interviewed by the Journal.

Totally off topic, but thought I’d share…
Back in middle school, The Kid really started getting into a band called Slipknot. He saw them live a couple of times with The Husband, but I only found a couple of songs listenable. Anyhow, fast forward, and a couple of years ago the lead singer, Corey Taylor, did some work for the You Rock Foundation, which helps prevent youth suicide. I became a fan of him, and his other band Stone Sour. This afternoon I listened to a whole live all acoustic show he did in London a couple of years ago. It’s online and free at thecoreytaylor.com. It was fun, and he did songs by Johnny Cash, The Cure, The Eagles, The Buzzcocks and a lot of his own. Plus there’s about 45 minutes of Q&A with the audience. I really loved his connection with the audience and you can tell he’s grateful to do what he loves and he loves his fans. It’s something different and fun, and he curses like a motherfucker so be warned.

The fundamental problem with people and knives is that 99.9% of the population don’t know how to sharpen a knife. A sharp knife is a safe knife.

Corey’s great, in both bands. And he did a track with Grohl and Rick Neilsen from Cheap Trick for the Sound City soundtrack that I really liked, being a fan of CT forever.
