Lyrics:

up on the hill to see the stakes
oh my lord, don’t ask me why
what if I’m just a big mistake
oh my lord, don’t ask her now

I stumble on my thoughts sometimes
no really, I stumble all the time
now if the echo is building up
oh my lord, let me quiet down

I run for the nearest drink of light
boy keep it on, just get it right
I ramble through the day
talk pyramids at night
some dance in this broken light

up on the hill to meet the day
oh my lord, don’t watch me now
what is so far it cannot see
what’s so near with hungry eyes

I fear what you don’t see in me
no really, I fear the things you find
windmills in front of wind machines
oh my lord, what a wicked time

I run for the nearest drink of light
boy keep it on, but get it right
I ramble through the day
talk pyramids at night
some dance in this broken light

and down in the valley hear them sing
oh my lord, let’s get alright
the last run just like the first it seems
oh my lord, this endless mile

I wake up in your love sometimes
no really, I get it all the time
like waves to my body in the sea
oh my lord, when I quiet down

so stay in the weather of your flight
but keep it on, just get it right
I ramble through the day
talk pyramids at night
I sound like this broken light

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Department of Homeland Security has called a Friday evening shooting at the Pennsylvania State Capitol building a terror attack.

A gunman, identified as 51-year-old Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty, intentionally fired at police officers at multiple locations around the capitol building in Harrisburg, according to local authorities. The suspect injured one officer before he was fatally shot.

DHS spokesman Tyler Houlton declared the shooting “a terror attack” in a Saturday press release.

El-Mofty became a naturalized U.S. citizen as a result of extended family chain migration, according to the DHS statement. “Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty was a naturalized U.S. citizen who was admitted to the United States from Egypt on a family-based immigrant visa,” Houlton said.

The DHS official said the shooting in Harrisburg highlights the Trump administration’s concerns about extended family chain migration.

So, here’s tonight’s story of rank incompetence of Big Cable, expereince # 367,289…

I finally managed to get my Home Theater PC rehabbed and up and flying with Windows 10, all nice and patched up to date and backed up - so now it’s on to provisioning the usual thing that throws spanners in the works - yes, folks, the dreaded CableCard….

I picked up a used HD HomeRun 3-tuner beast with Ethernet to replace my Ceton InfiniTV 4-tuner as the HD HomeRun has much more flexibility than the limited Ceton. So now I go and start the provisioning process, only to find out when I call up my cable provider, they don’t have a record of that serial number of that CableCard in their system….

DAFUQ, indeed…

Fortunately, since I pay for business-class serrvice, a truck roll is happening later this morning.

So with that, scaly dreams all….

Nighty night….

I say if the GOP insists that any FBI official or agent who donated to Dems must be unacceptably biased, it’s time to take them at their word, and insist that any who gave to Republicans are also unacceptably biased.

They’re trying to establish “Republican” as the default, along with “straight”, “white”, “Christian”, and “male”.

Well, he won’t know it so he may not be bothered, but we’re looking forward to family and friends gathering here tonight for a very tasty dinner, some great wine, and our gift exchange for the immediate family. Normally we don’t combine the dinner and the gifts, but this year’s schedule is complicated and this is what works. What works is what we do.

If only the Ghost of Christmas Present could bring Trump to watch as we eat grass fed beef, roasted green beans with shallot butter, potatoes, salad and a home made Yule Log. This year we’ll be adding in some wine Mr. C. blended himself at a winery event last year. Then we’ll open gifts-a few little token items like socks and See’s candy (can’t mess with tradition!) and then on to the donations we’re making in each other’s names. ACLU. Lambda Legal, Audubon, Swords to Plowshares, etc. Each one selected to delight the recipient and stick a finger in the eye of the GOP. I’m so looking forward to it.

A Mom Anon  Dec 24, 2017 • 9:12:47am

I’m home on a cold, dreary Metro Atlanta afternoon, making desserts (tiramisu, brownies stuffed with cookies and chocolate chips, and maybe a pumpkin cheesecake, we shall see). Turkey is thawing in the fridge, tomorrow we have the Thanksgiving we missed because we were in Florida (my mother in law made the worst meal I think I ever had on a holiday, it was bad), so it’s a small ham, a turkey and all the trimmings. Why I’m doing this for only three people is beyond me, but it’s therapeutic, a little. My parents are at my cousin’s in SC. My sister isn’t speaking to me AGAIN, for some drama queen reason, who knows? The inlaws are out of state so it’s just me and the guys and Miss Dog. I did no decorations, very few gifts and a few cards this year, that’s IT. And I’m ok with that. I kinda like it, but of course I’d trade all that for a house full of grandkids and family who could put their bullshit aside for ONE FREAKING DAY, but noooooo.

The Husband bought us Foo Fighters tickets last night, the concert is a few days before my birthday next year, so that will be a blast. We’re also going out west again for vacation sometime this Spring, so YAY!!!!

I hope wherever you are or whatever you’re doing that you find some joy, and love and peace over the next couple of weeks. If not, I leave you a gentle {{{{hug}}}} and a cup of hot cocoa.

{{{MomAnon}}} Your late Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner sounds wonderful. Sometimes a minimalist holiday is a good thing. It can just take some getting used to.
You can also think of it as getting back to The True Meaning of Christmas, which, if I understand correctly, was always “overindulgence.” Before the industrial revolution that meant food and drink. It was only with the advent of cheaper consumer goods that gifts were the big deal. So eat, drink, and be merry.

A festive Christmas Eve to all.

Going to be a quiet Christmas Eve and Christmas this year. Hanging out with Mr. pbac and his sister and the dogs. Will do a big walk in the giant park by The Base. Will probably have sausage and peppers for dinner.

Tomorrow we head to a friend’s for the real deal NM Christmas feast, including but not limited to, about 5 thousand homemade tamales. So ridiculously good.

Dude and I are going to see the Doctor Who Christmas special in the theater on Wednesday as our Christmas gift to each other. Sad to see Capaldi go, but really looking forward to the new Doctor.

Have a wonderful Christmas dear lizards. May your days be merry and bright.

My Xmas tradition is watching Sports Night (my favorite series of all time) for the bazillionth time and hiding out. The Sports Night “holiday” show (aired December 15, 1998) was about college football players and the confederate flag. Aaron Sorkin saw it all coming. The Six Southern Gentlemen of Tennessee. A classic.

I just finished the episode where Isaac (Robert Guillaume) comes back after his stroke and I suddenly have something in my eyes.

To those who are celebrating, have a wonderful time. To those like me, who wish it would just fucking be next year already, good luck. And to the vulgar talking yam at MaraGaudy—fuck you and all the horses’ asses you rode in on.

It looks like David Atkins got the short straw to do posts for the Washington Monthly’s Political Animal column today:

1. What to do when the President is a paranoid delusional racist?

2. Trump tells his millionaire friends the tax bill just made them a lot richer.

And 2a. El Jefe on Juanita Jean, same topic: Once in a while, the truth slips out.

and

3. A time of testing for FBI Deputy Director McCabe and the country.

All of which means that the next eleven months will be an incredibly dangerous time for the country. Both Trump and the Republican Party will be sorely tempted to circumvent accountability for the president’s likely crimes, to appoint a bevy of judges and enact radical policies designed to tie the hands of progressives for a generation, and to enact voter suppression schemes to mitigate future electoral disasters. They may even be tempted to scuttle democracy itself in order to protect plutocracy, patriarchy, and white Christian supremacy from a rising generation of diverse, secular and more economically progressive voters.

FINANCE Secretary Derek Mackay has stripped Donald Trump’s Scottish business of a lucrative tax break.

The US president’s luxury golf resort, Trump Turnberry, this year got more than £100,000 in business rates relief from the Scottish taxpayer. However, the SNP government has now changed the rules and called a halt to such rebates.

It is understood that the Scottish government’s move was taken with the Trump business in mind.

The exact cost to Trump from the change is unclear. While Trump clawed back nearly £110,000 this year from tax-payers, a Scottish government source estimated it could be around £20,000 in other years.

I disagree with you on this for Kristol, although it’s totally true for Flake. Kristol hates Trump’s foreign policy with every fiber of his being. He’s not like my deluded brother who sees a tripolar world run by the USA, Russia, and China. Kristol wants a unipolar world run by the US; he has no fondness for Putin. I doubt that Kristol really cares about domestic policy. And he hated with a passion Trump’s slogan of America First; he actually remembered its origin in the 1930’s.

OT: The mall was not too bad. When I was at Wegman’s I bought 2 boxes of Kosher salt because it is supposed to snow (the 4 letter dirty word) next weekend. I also went to REI and got some lighter fluid for my hand warmers. By the time I finished my walk to the mall the plastic bags were on the verge of breaking so I headed to L L Bean for a tote bag. I am home now watching PBS cooking shows.

A core Republican talking point during the net neutrality battle was that, in 2015, President Obama led a government takeover of the internet, and Obama illegally bullied the independent Federal Communications Commission into adopting the rules. In this version of the story, Ajit Pai’s rollback of those rules Thursday is a return to the good old days, before the FCC was forced to adopt rules it never wanted in the first place.

“On express orders from the previous White House, the FCC scrapped the tried-and-true, light touch regulation of the Internet and replaced it with heavy-handed micromanagement,” Pai said Thursday prior to voting to repeal the regulations.

But internal FCC documents obtained by Motherboard using a Freedom of Information Act request show that the independent, nonpartisan FCC Office of Inspector General—acting on orders from Congressional Republicans—investigated the claim that Obama interfered with the FCC’s net neutrality process and found it was nonsense. This Republican narrative of net neutrality as an Obama-led takeover of the internet, then, was wholly refuted by an independent investigation and its findings were not made public prior to Thursday’s vote.

So, long story short, if their lips move (or their fingers are typing) they’re lying. Who would have guessed?

But it wouldn’t be Christmas unless we traveled to another town that voted for Trump, found out what they all ate for lunch and heard their oh so informed views of the world at large. Sigh. Spit. Bah Humbug.

No. But when it snows all of the rock salt in Philly disappears. So I buy kosher salt because it is in the supermarkets almost all of the time.

THE. WORST. CHRISTMAS. SONG. EVER.
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” sung as an excruciatingly slow romantic ballad.

I have heard “Here comes Santa Claus” so many times today I have that dang ear worm from it. Hmm. Maybe the Nutcracker might get rid of it.

All of Trump’s policies are based on unsubstantiated lies so this is no surprise. We’re living in scary times when the man in the White House lies all the dang time and Republicans back him up by going after truth tellers like Mueller.

And, of course, Jesus wasn’t born at the solstice. We’re celebrating the return of light and by extension, life. A fine thing to celebrate, and if you want to tack a current religious holiday on to it, be my guest.

I’m inclined to agree. Case in point -

I follow Rick Wilson on Twitter. Fiercely anti-Trump. On the day the Rape the Poor Act was passed, I waited all day for him to even acknowledge it.

Not a word. I was disappointed, but not really surprised.

Yep. When Trump is gone we’ll go our separate ways.
