The “writer” started with a non-descript article about cyber-warfare, then a couple calling out US policy in Venezuela and Syria, then went all in on Clinton-bashing.

It would appear that CounterPunch didn’t bother to verify that they were getting their articles from a real person. They are now trying to defend themselves with a bunch of deflection “should we be checking ID as if this was a TSA checkpoint” and such nonsense.

Trump and Politico are looking for any angle to end the Iran nuclear deal, which has continued to effectively keep Iran’s nuclear program in check.

Any move to end that deal will mean Iran goes back to their old games, and they’ll certainly learn from the North Koreans not to trust anything Trump does and that beyond his bluster, Trump hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing.

I’m baaack. The larder is restocked, a bunch of stuff is in the mail (Mr. C. tends to go old school on sending checks for charitable donations as it’s easier to keep track of) and I’ve got some light reading for the rest of the week.

On the down side, Trump is still president and apparently the majority of conservatives are still idiots. I suppose it would be unreasonable to expect either of those to be fixed in a two hour random time span.

OK, re your points:
1) It’s an observation from Mike Huckabee: “stupid” is virtually guaranteed to be part of the message.
2) “Neville Chamberlain” - sadly for that statesman’s posthumous reputation - has become pretty much a catch-all buzzphrase (coming from the Right, anyway) for any sort of perceived diplomatic “error” - usually “insufficient warmongering” - so then, mostly meaningless (see point 1).
3) Of course President Obama boosted the US’ international reputation: it’s the main reason Trump and hs pathetic creatures are always trying to sling mud on him…

At the time of Chamberlain’s “Peace In Our Time” compromise, England was not even close to ready for war. The year of production - both at home and bought from the US made an enormous difference especially via the numbers of Spitfires & Hurricanes; Matilda II & Cruiser II; produced before the outbreak. I don’t think it was planned as such but I do believe Chamberlain understood that the English could not stop the Germans by force of arms in 1938 and needed more time to rearm against the threat that was Germany.

As I recall, President Obama tirelessly worked to rebuild our alliances and standing in the world after the last disastrous Republican presidency.

Trump praising Putin and tearing through our allies certainly doesn’t come close to Neville Chamberlain diplomacy. Trump is acting much more like Neville Chamberlain would have if he was an ally of Hitler. At no point in Prime Minister Chamberlain’s office did he support Hitler’s regime.

At the time of Chamberlain’s “Peace In Our Time” compromise, England was not even close to ready for war. The year of production - both at home and bought from the US made an enormous difference especially via the numbers of Spitfires & Hurricanes; Matilda II & Cruiser II; produced before the outbreak. The advantage we held was longer term - the Germans did not have the resources to win a prolonged war. Once the West took more than 6 months and they attacked east they could not win. Not enough coal, steel, tungsten, oil etc. “The Wages of Destruction” by Adam Tooze goes into this in depth. en.wikipedia.org Never mind the so-called Speer miracle, they were running out of materials from day one and forced to always be looking for shortcuts and work arounds.

Finally got around to seeing Split. A few thoughts:

1) Mcavoy did a great job with the different personalities. Anya Taylor-Joy was good too.
2) The “twist” was kind of lame. I actually had to look online to really understand it.
3) Logic holes - No one saw a dude get murdered in a busy shopping mall parking lot? No security cameras picked up a glimpse of the perpetrator? No one else who worked with the multiple personality guy noticed any of the messed up stuff he had there? The doctor didn’t think to have him institutionalized when she realized something wasn’t right?
4) I left the movie feeling very underwhelmed.

So much of the cultural depiction of Chamberlain is built upon lies that Churchill (his political rival) pushed into the public consciousness, so much of it tainted by hindsight and immediate post-war politics. The US and USSR had overtaken the UK and France as the dominant world powers, much of Europe lay in ruin, and Britain was still laboring under war-time rationing as it could not make the shift to a peacetime economy immediately.

So the fantasy that Churchill painted for them, of a Britain and France who had intervened earlier to nip Hitler in the bud when he was “weak” and thus prevented WWII and all the horror that came with it, was way too appealing to post-war Britons to debate whether or not either nation had been ready for a war in 1936. It was a matter of national pride, the idea that Britain had the power in 1936 to stop Hitler and Chamberlain pissed it away with appeasement…well it smacked just short of treason. And with the man who’d led the nation through war pushing this narrative, even those who’d known the truth were weary of saying such for fear of being tarred as a “defeatist” and “appeaser.”

As it turns out, this is something I know quite a bit about.

The presence of antibodies against B. anthracis antigens is evidence that he was vaccinated. You’ll probably find the same in a fair number of early Iraq War veterans. Why? Expected exposure.

It may suggest NK plans to, or is considering using bioweapons in case of war. Or it could suggest they expect US to.

Inhalation Anthrax is not ‘fatal to 80% within 24 hours’. It takes time to develop, and it’s easily treatable with antibiotics. Anyone remember the run on Cipro in late 2001/early 2002, after the Anthrax attack? How many even remember the Anthrax attack.

I did some work today, but also did some politic reading this evening, so my mini-log here for you:

Nancy LeTourneau delves deeply into the Politico push that Obama shielded Hezbollah in order to protect the treaty with Iran.

Martin Longman notes that there are now at least 20 named women accusing DT of some form or other of sexual offenses. Since he does these things while married means that he is using his wealth to own ‘his’ women, because otherwise they would slap him and walk out. Then he compares that to the cabinet meetings with everyone fawning and cooing over him to the same relationship, and the same thing he tried at the U.N.

The Rude Pundit takes on the war on Christmas in his usual rude fashion.

And washingtonmonthly.com again (I like her!) doing a round up of news that leads up to an interesting point from an economist from Venezuela, Andrés Miguel Rondón. His take is that a scandal will never bring down a populist, because they are in their position because they will hate the people you hate for you. But she lets Joy Reid have the final word:

The writer argues that only empathy for Trumpists ultimately can defeat Trumpism, which is a fairly common hot take these days among many progressives (though pointedly disputed by lots of progressive POC).

The counter-narrative, which I think was borne out in Alabama, is that outrage against Trumpism and its adjuncts (like Mooreism) is precisely what is required to defeat it, and that compassion (via policy) should follow victory, but not be a substitute for it.

And that’s what I think and what I believe a lot of the rest of us thing: I will run against Trump, and be angry at those that support him, but I will never pass a law - like this gawd awful tax law - that punishes his supporters. Anything passed will help them specifically because you can’t help just a subset of the population.

What I assume to be the second season had them going around the world - I saw episodes of them visiting Cuba and Japan. But right now they’re in Kentucky, where they just visited a horse farm and watched them collect semen.

Not your usual series. And Ozzy is a very funny dude.

I’ve been watching “Better Late Than Never”.

Henry Winkler, William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw and George Foreman last season went to Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Thailand. This year they’re going to Munich, Berlin, Sweden and Lithuania. They look really silly in Lederhosen.
