How Donald Trump Spent Christmas

Politics • Views: 38,731

There’s no better way to get a picture of how deranged and unfit for office Donald Trump is than to review the tweets he spewed over the Christmas weekend, relentlessly attacking Hillary Clinton and the FBI, repeating far right talking points from Fox News, randomly capitalizing words, lying and boasting. This creature is a toxic bottomless pit of need, bigotry and desperate malignant narcissism, and it’s America’s shame that he squats in the White House today.

Oh yes, and one more thing — on Christmas Eve, he decided to retweet an ugly “meme” featuring an image of a bloody shoe sole labeled “CNN,” posted by a follower of a violent neo-Nazi criminal.

My comment at the end of the last thread…

Yeah. And it REALLY doesn’t pay to be a smart woman and a godless liberal. When everything stupid is glorified, it’s a ridiculous time to be alive. It’s not even the living in interesting times curse. Stupidity is just stupid. It’s not at all interesting.

Looks like time to go stock up on food again. Oddly, we seem to keep eating up what I buy. I’ll swing by the library while I’m out as well. It looks to be a quiet week here, so I’d best have some reading material.

BBL

Funny how that works. Good thing we got into town before the massive snow dump on the 24-25th. I still haven’t affixed the plough and chains to our Smart car.

We have enough food until Spring thaw.

No details yet, but with all the snow Scottsbluff got over the last two days, there isn’t going to be much of a high-speed chase if it comes down to that. He fled the store on foot.

LOL

Like MAGA itself, the [challenge] coin revamp (which replaces the color scheme with a “very gold” coloring that calls to mind the literal gold-plated toilets that Trump shits in) is pitched to perfectly troll anyone with an ounce of taste or decorum, from the GOP establishment to the anti-Trump left. It’s something between a souvenir casino poker chip and a chocolate coin given away by a crooked used-car dealership. It’s like eating KFC and Burger King in the Oval Office or dusting Air Force One with Swarovski crystals.

Paul Nehlen, Paul Ryan’s ‘Alt-Right’ Opponent, Goes On ‘Shekel-For-Hire’ Rant

Hitting a new level in his anti-Semitism-laced tweets, Republican congressional candidate Paul Nehlen lashed out at his critics, hinting they are geting paid by the Jews to attack him.

Nehlen, who is aiming to unseat Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in the 2018 Republican primary in Ryan’s Wisconsin district, was criticized for tweeting memes on Friday with the words “It’s okay to be white” and “The Goyim know” — both common trope of online anti-Semites.

At least we can be sure he is very “pro-Israel”, right?

wonkette.com

Wonkette calls out the lefty site CounterPunch over a series of articles that were written against Hillary Clinton, from a person who doesn’t seem to exist.

The “writer” started with a non-descript article about cyber-warfare, then a couple calling out US policy in Venezuela and Syria, then went all in on Clinton-bashing.

It would appear that CounterPunch didn’t bother to verify that they were getting their articles from a real person. They are now trying to defend themselves with a bunch of deflection “should we be checking ID as if this was a TSA checkpoint” and such nonsense.

Trump and Politico are looking for any angle to end the Iran nuclear deal, which has continued to effectively keep Iran’s nuclear program in check.

Any move to end that deal will mean Iran goes back to their old games, and they’ll certainly learn from the North Koreans not to trust anything Trump does and that beyond his bluster, Trump hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing.

as if there weren’t enough reasons to avoid going into a nursing home…

Reacting to the demands of lobbyists, the Trump administration has struck down several regulations that have governed the nursing home industry. The New York Times reports that this now means several common citations that used to result in fines will either see reduced penalties or no penalties at all.

These citations have included “failing to protect residents from avoidable accidents, neglect, mistreatment and bedsores.” Americans can now know that their grandparents, parents, or great-grandparents can be neglected and abused without the government exercising oversight.

snip

In his eagerness to undo as many regulations as possible, regardless of consequence, Donald Trump has thrown those policies out the window after the lobbyists for companies that operate the homes got the ear of his administration. A memo from the Trump administration referred to these fines as penalizing a “one-time mistake.” Even if that “one-time mistake” killed someone’s grandmother.

The Times notes one nursing home where the failure to monitor and treat a patient’s wound led to a pain-medication pump slipping through a ruptured suture, protruding from her abdomen. Under the Obama rules, the nursing home at fault — Lincoln Manor in Illinois — was fined $282,954. Under Trump, the home where a person died because of neglect would be fined less than $21,000.

With the firehose of lies from Donald Trump, it is tough to pick out the biggest whoppers.

NBC News took on that thankless task however, and came up with their top nine.

NBC should be cautioned the year isn’t over yet.

nbcnews.com

1. More people watched his inaugural than ever before.
2. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote because of voter fraud.
3. Michael Flynn did nothing wrong.
4. “Look what happened last night in Sweden”.
5. Obama bugged Cheeto Tower.
6. Russian meddling in the election was “a made up story”.
7. Counter protestors in Charlottesville lacked a permit.
8. America pays the most in taxes.
9. Tax “reform” will cost me a fortune.

As I recall, President Obama tirelessly worked to rebuild our alliances and standing in the world after the last disastrous Republican presidency.

Trump praising Putin and tearing through our allies certainly doesn’t come close to Neville Chamberlain diplomacy. Trump is acting much more like Neville Chamberlain would have if he was an ally of Hitler. At no point in Prime Minister Chamberlain’s office did he support Hitler’s regime.

OK, re your points:
1) It’s an observation from Mike Huckabee: “stupid” is virtually guaranteed to be part of the message.
2) “Neville Chamberlain” - sadly for that statesman’s posthumous reputation - has become pretty much a catch-all buzzphrase (coming from the Right, anyway) for any sort of perceived diplomatic “error” - usually “insufficient warmongering” - so then, mostly meaningless (see point 1).
3) Of course President Obama boosted the US’ international reputation: it’s the main reason Trump and hs pathetic creatures are always trying to sling mud on him…

At the time of Chamberlain’s “Peace In Our Time” compromise, England was not even close to ready for war. The year of production - both at home and bought from the US made an enormous difference especially via the numbers of Spitfires & Hurricanes; Matilda II & Cruiser II; produced before the outbreak. I don’t think it was planned as such but I do believe Chamberlain understood that the English could not stop the Germans by force of arms in 1938 and needed more time to rearm against the threat that was Germany.

It’s so bizarre to me that the Republicans are still falling over themselves to treat Trump like America’s Kim Jong Un. Do they really think tying themselves so closely to such an incredibly unpopular figure is going to pay off electorally? Do they think he’ll bestow riches on the biggest sycophants?

As Jim Wright noted in his last column, they aren’t concerned about the next election. Like vulture capitalists who load up a company with debt and cash out, it would appear the current crop of GOP candidates are doing the same thing with the country.

They don’t care if they burn down their own party, because they will go away rich.

re: #73 William Lewis

At the time of Chamberlain’s “Peace In Our Time” compromise, England was not even close to ready for war. The year of production - both at home and bought from the US made an enormous difference especially via the numbers of Spitfires & Hurricanes; Matilda II & Cruiser II; produced before the outbreak. I don’t think it was planned as such but I do believe Chamberlain understood that the English could not stop the Germans by force of arms in 1938 and needed more time to rearm against the threat that was Germany.

It worked both ways, incidentally: despite what was generally thought at the time, the Germans (as since has been confirmed by historical research) were likewise, in the Fall of 1938, nowhere near as prepared for war as the Allies had been led ( by VERY effective German propaganda) to believe. However, Hitler was a consummate bluffer: the British and French unfortunately fell for it….

I’m not too sure about that claim from “American News” based on what’s on their “About” page.

American News was founded by Josh Riddle and David Rufful with a mission of reporting the truth and facts to America 24/7.

Josh and David started building websites as freshmen roommates at Dartmouth College in May 2009. They both also played college basketball and edited for the preeminent college newspaper, The Dartmouth Review. Prior to Dartmouth, Josh and David both studied at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts.

The advantage we held was longer term - the Germans did not have the resources to win a prolonged war. Once the West took more than 6 months and they attacked east they could not win. Not enough coal, steel, tungsten, oil etc. “The Wages of Destruction” by Adam Tooze goes into this in depth. en.wikipedia.org Never mind the so-called Speer miracle, they were running out of materials from day one and forced to always be looking for shortcuts and work arounds.

No one else who worked with the multiple personality guy noticed any of the messed up stuff he had there? So much of the cultural depiction of Chamberlain is built upon lies that Churchill (his political rival) pushed into the public consciousness, so much of it tainted by hindsight and immediate post-war politics. The US and USSR had overtaken the UK and France as the dominant world powers, much of Europe lay in ruin, and Britain was still laboring under war-time rationing as it could not make the shift to a peacetime economy immediately.

So the fantasy that Churchill painted for them, of a Britain and France who had intervened earlier to nip Hitler in the bud when he was “weak” and thus prevented WWII and all the horror that came with it, was way too appealing to post-war Britons to debate whether or not either nation had been ready for a war in 1936. It was a matter of national pride, the idea that Britain had the power in 1936 to stop Hitler and Chamberlain pissed it away with appeasement…well it smacked just short of treason. And with the man who’d led the nation through war pushing this narrative, even those who’d known the truth were weary of saying such for fear of being tarred as a “defeatist” and “appeaser.”

As it turns out, this is something I know quite a bit about.

The presence of antibodies against B. anthracis antigens is evidence that he was vaccinated. You’ll probably find the same in a fair number of early Iraq War veterans. Why? Expected exposure.

It may suggest NK plans to, or is considering using bioweapons in case of war. Or it could suggest they expect US to.

Inhalation Anthrax is not ‘fatal to 80% within 24 hours’. It takes time to develop, and it’s easily treatable with antibiotics. Anyone remember the run on Cipro in late 2001/early 2002, after the Anthrax attack? How many even remember the Anthrax attack.

There’s a licensed vaccine, which is awful. B. anthracis conditioned growth medium, precipitated with Alum, from strains that produce very little Lethal Toxin, so the primary antigen is Protective Antigen.

There was a recombinant vaccine, purified Protective Antigen, but in 2006 the US Government had lost interest in Biodefense after 5 years of no further bioterror attacks, and they finagled a way to get out of thecontract.

Oh, yeah - and the idea of loading it onto ICBMs? That sounds like bullshit. Because it’s so easily treated, especially if you get to it before it really ‘takes’, it’s a lousy Biowar weapon. Missile comes in, tracked from launch to reentry; warhead goes off; anthrax detected within hours; stockpiles of Cipro mobilized to that city.

Because it’s not contagious, there are no secondary infections. Easily contained, plus if an ICBM came over from NK, there’d be a shitload of them headed back that way, but not with silly bacterial weapons.

No. The toxin works primarily by helping the B. anthracis avoid immune destruction and proliferate, producing still more toxin.

And the proteins themselves are big. PA is 80,000 daltons. Hard to get that through the laveolar membrane in any quantity. And if you did, without the bacterial infection to back it up, it wouldn’t kill you.

Such holes are formed when the water temperature in the clouds is below freezing but the water has not frozen yet due to the lack of ice nucleation (see supercooled water). When ice crystals do form it will set off a domino effect, due to the Bergeron process, causing the water droplets around the crystals to evaporate: this leaves a large, often circular, hole in the cloud.

Since he does these things while married means that he is using his wealth to own ‘his’ women, because otherwise they would slap him and walk out. And washingtonmonthly.com again (I like her!) doing a round up of news that leads up to an interesting point from an economist from Venezuela, Andrés Miguel Rondón. His take is that a scandal will never bring down a populist, because they are in their position because they will hate the people you hate for you. But she lets Joy Reid have the final word:

The writer argues that only empathy for Trumpists ultimately can defeat Trumpism, which is a fairly common hot take these days among many progressives (though pointedly disputed by lots of progressive POC).

The counter-narrative, which I think was borne out in Alabama, is that outrage against Trumpism and its adjuncts (like Mooreism) is precisely what is required to defeat it, and that compassion (via policy) should follow victory, but not be a substitute for it.

Good thing Trump didn’t go to this year’s Kennedy Center Honors, not his sort of crowd at all.

Tonight’s honorees:

Gloria Estefan
Norman Lear
LL Cool J
Carmen de Lavallade
Lionel Ritchie

All of them hate him. The only one who can even pass as a white man is… a Jew who joined the army to kill Nazis.

I still dislike that image! Too many people get shit sandwiches for life, and you can’t tell me they deserved it, any more than that Koch grandson deserves his wealth.

And that’s what I think and what I believe a lot of the rest of us thing: I will run against Trump, and be angry at those that support him, but I will never pass a law - like this gawd awful tax law - that punishes his supporters. Anything passed will help them specifically because you can’t help just a subset of the population.

I’m watching that show where Ozzy and Jack Osborne go riding around America checking things out. It’s a lot better than I would have thought.

What I assume to be the second season had them going around the world - I saw episodes of them visiting Cuba and Japan. But right now they’re in Kentucky, where they just visited a horse farm and watched them collect semen.

Not your usual series. And Ozzy is a very funny dude.

The article is definitely not Fox, and the title is clickbait. It veers all over the place but doesn’t supply a whole lot of even polling that indicates how people feel about the answer.

I’ve been watching “Better Late Than Never”.

Henry Winkler, William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw and George Foreman last season went to Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and Thailand. This year they’re going to Munich, Berlin, Sweden and Lithuania. They look really silly in Lederhosen.

“You have to have empathy for Trump supporters in order to beat him.”

Uh, no, I don’t. In fact, that’s how we got in this whole fucked-up mess to begin with, portraying Trump voters not as narrow-minded bigots voting to overturn the past half-century of progress, but as simple folk dealing with “economic anxiety” who were voting for the “populist” candidate.

Wow, I didn’t know that.

It’s fun watching him hanging out with his dad.

When they were in Ark Encounter, a couple of Christians recognized him. And a woman who worked there told him she named her dog ‘Sharon’ and yelled at her like Ozzy when the dog was bad. Pretty funny.

Agreed. It will also exacerbate the trend of misleading or inaccurate headlines leading to misinformation when some people are not even able to read the source article.

In his first year in office, did Trump end the “war on Christmas”?

No.
There was never a War on Christmas, so he couldn’t end it.

No.
The people who think there was a War on Christmas will always play victim; Trump can never end their “war.”
