Ppl look to journalists to report things, and that isn’t just repeating things you “hear” verbatim, but providing context for it to create a factual view. Too many have fallen into the #FoxNews trap of thinking “he said she said” is not only good reporting, but the only reporting
— Jingle All The K still sez “Ban Nazis!” (@Citizen_Kryptik) December 29, 2017
Listening is what good journalists do, this is true. But they also have to, you know, report. And simply transcribing what someone said without further context or elucidation is not journalism; it’s stenography. We want you guys to commit to journalism over stenography.

Very respectfully, I don’t think it’s a choice between “let Trump say anything he wants” and “play prosecutor and interrupt constantly.” Interviewers can - and do all the time - politely challenge wildly false claims without derailing the whole interview. https://t.co/RGSvohQbRd

In ruling upholding $135k fine against bakers who refused to make cake for lesbian couple (https://t.co/wWUMVWkrvx), OR App Ct says bakers’ logic would let businesses “oppress and humiliate black people … by recasting their bias in terms of conduct rather than race.” #orpol pic.twitter.com/XUpUSXchx9

Naked Capitalism: Erica Gardner
While we know that Erica Garner is not dead, it is almost certain that her voice is lost. That is not just a tragedy but a disgrace. An activist who sometimes found it hard to come up with Metrocard fare so she could participate in protests was almost certainly short-changed by our money-driven medical system. It may be that “I can’t breathe” will come to be not just a reminder of how police brutalize African Americans, but how they are also mistreated by the health care system.

Spooning your dog, eh?
So over 30 years ago, my brother, who’s a fantastic artist, created stipple portraits of my first two kids (from baby photos). Stipple is a technique that uses only dots (no lines).
In a drawing or painting, the dots are made of pigment of a single colour, applied with a pen or brush; the denser the dots, the darker the apparent shade—or lighter, if the pigment is lighter than the surface. This is similar to—but distinct from—pointillism, which uses dots of different colours to simulate blended colours.[1]Wikipedia
My older daughter mentioned to my brother that her younger sister was sad that she never got a portrait. So, despite working insane hours and fighting some health issues, my brother created a portrait for my youngest.
These are true works of art and match the actual photos exactly. Amazing work. The new portrait is below (with his signature removed for privacy). Can’t tell you how thrilled I am that my youngest daughter finally got her own portrait (and how thrilled I am to have a complete set of my kids). Best Christmas present I received.

My husband, an Iranian American, says don’t get to excited about the unrest in Iran. He said it’s not a generic uprising like before.
According to Iranian sites starting two weeks ago, the Iranian ambassador to the US under the Shah, his brother-in-law, was in Saudi. Most feel that their money is financing this.
Next month if it still going on it will really mean something, if it last, because that will be the anniversary of the Revolution. Saudi may have started it, but they won’t benefit from it, but neither will the Shah’s son. Too much bad blood.

Thanks folks! My brother’s primary interests are sculpture and photography these days, but his drawings and paintings are astounding. I bugged him to do a portrait of my youngest for years, but he demurred because of the effort required. So I’m thrilled that he finally did this one.
Since I mentioned his sculptures, here’s an amusing note: Between shows, he keeps his sculptures stacked around his house. Many are incredibly lifelike human sculptures, so much so that he invited the police over to view them, being concerned about what his neighbors would say seeing them being carried in and out on the way to shows. Also, they can’t get a pet sitter or repair folks to come to the house after one visit (they get very creeped out by the piles of “bodies” laying around). When his sculptures are displayed, people insist on touching them, sure that they are real people.

Ah. Take can of sauce, cut with can of plain tomato sauce. Mix. Pour. Hopefully within my spice range.

A group of Mormon cult leaders is being charged with organizing sexual religious rituals with underage girls and threatening them with damnation if they did not participate, according to court documents filed in Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday.
Defendants Warren Jeffs, Lyle Jeffs, Seth Jeffs, and Wendell Leroy Nielsen are members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), an offshoot of the Mormon Church that still practices polygamy over a hundred years after the mainstream Mormon Church abandoned it. The Southern Poverty Law Center has described the group as a white supremacist, antigovernment, totalitarian cult.

And here’s all that matters to the yam:
Trump was enthusiastic about the interview and liked that the New York Times was at his golf course, people briefed on the interview said. The president, they added, enjoyed the coverage afterward and noted that it dominated TV most of Friday.
(Gotta say, I’m a bit disappointed that this WaPo article actually includes a bit about them reaching out to Howie fucking Carr to get a quote from the yam at maragaudy—and such a quote—“Tell them I am relaxing and enjoying myself and I’m in very good spirits because I’ve just had the most successful first year any president has ever had in American history,” Carr said the president told him.
Gah

Not only that, but NYT won’t let you go! I cancelled (I thought) my online subscription several months ago, and the emails stopped immediately. I’ve never had a problem with Sirius billing. When my satellite radio died, one phone call switched me to their internet service.
I’ll tell you the company that made my life MISERABLE when it came to billing and that was Verizon charging me for services I never requested. Finally stopped when I quit them and went over to AT&T.
