When has been being a bloviator a bad thing to the Trump GOP anyhow? And honestly how can these people say it’s lies? Rich Lowry isn’t in the WH. And neither is Podhoettz.

Watching Neil Tyson on the Late Show makes me feel somewhat better knowing what a insignificant speck we are, until I realize that my insignificant speck is currently being led by Donald Trump

I wanna post a rant I just did in the last thread regarding some of the criticism of Wolff’s book. It’s based on what I have heard and what is in Kragar’s (and Charles’ last thread) Tweet GOP “Liar and Phony” image. Thanks.

- - - -

That bit where Wolff gets criticized because he said he can’t be sure of the facts in it is a twist on what the book is about and how it was based.

I don’t know a damn thing about Michael Wolff, but I know he is quoting people in the White House. It is the premise of his whole book.

Book Theme: An expose of what is going on in the Trump White House and what people on the staff are saying about him.

What Wolff can’t say is true are the statements of the people he is quoting.

If someone has a grudge against Trump on his staff, they could say anything, even mocking lies, or overblown situations after the facts.

But they said them. And he built a book on them.

He said you can interpret them yourself…read the book.

It all shows what a mess the White House is and how Trump can’t even get a little respect from the people that work for the President of the United States.

Pathetic.

And if the people that work for him hate his ass enough to freely dump on him; hello America we have problems.

That is the goddamned book’s message!!!

If you ask a wingnut to prove that the DNC “exploits” black voters, they’ll probably be able to recite from memory the “quote” from LBJ saying that by signing the CRA, he’d “have those n*****s voting Democrat for the next 200 years.”

If you ask them if they believe the Clintons are racists, they’ll probably bring up the story about Bill telling Ted Kennedy about Obama that “years ago, this guy would have been bringing us coffee.”

Both of these “quotes” came from the same sort of books that now are totally unreliable and full of gossip and trash…so long as the book is about this joke of a presidency.

I’d love to think that Wolff’s book will make a difference, but really, why would it?

Trumpeteers will reject it as fake news. The R’s in power will yawn.

Sane people will point at it and say that Drumpf is a crazed Cheetodusted Jizztrumpet, that he presents a clear and present danger to the Republic and everyone around him accepts the fact and still sticks with the self-agrandizing Ego Masturbator. Nothing will happen.

And, scene.

Well, it did drive a personal wedge between Steve Bannon and everyone else. I also think that Trump is now more paranoid about the people around him.

It should completely lay to rest the idea that there’s some higher organization to the group. Yes, they’re making a mess that will have to be cleaned up. But we’re battling children with large hammers, not Lex Luthors.

Numbers. It’s all about numbers.

I think Decatur Deb used the word mathematics.

We want this book and all the other stuff we know about Trump to sway enough people to get out and vote to change this shit.

Democrats have the majority…just not the voters that always turn out. They need to be motivated to vote.

Women are the majority in this country. If 10% of the women that voted for Trump hold him and Republicans responsible for this craziness, that can swing the EC and maybe override gerrymandered Rep districts, and kick out some red state Senators.

Numbers. We need a few more our way and we can do this. Get Out the Vote…keep up the talk at places like here…on Facebook, Twitter. Talk to people.

We don’t need the crazy 25% of this country. We need to overpower them.

The problem as it exists today is Dems vs. Reps

It should be:
Sane conservative people vs. republicans
Young idealistic dreamers vs. republicans
Disillusioned Libertarians vs. republicans
Democrats vs. republicans
Independents vs. republicans
Disenfranchised minority groups vs. republicans

It is just a crying pitiful shame that that is what it takes to beat the republicans.

If it takes that broad of a coalition to keep the fascists from keeping control of our nation then I am fearful.

To me the funniest thing of the past year is seeing Jones whom in the Bush and Obama years always acted so paranoid about the executive branch becoming a cheerleader for it. His fear of government power was always a sham and it’s showing. He just wanted a guy that shared his racist and xenophobic outlook on the world and that man wasn’t Bush and it certainly wasn’t Obama so he embraced Trump.

I have to disagree. Japan, although somewhat more liberal since the end of the war, is still a very striated society. The Ainu in Hokkaido are still treated as less than Japanese. The Korean immigrants, even after several generations, have a terrible time getting citizenship, and tanners are still treated as untouchables.

It’s a complex society, still coming to grips with itself. A work in progress.

Note that there was a poll out in December showing that 70% of the people already believed Trump did something at least unethical regarding Russia (40% said illegal). That was before Bannon putting the T-word in play.

I always feel bad due to my lingustic limitations abroad. I want to learn the native language or at least parts of it but I’m afraid I’ll butcher it so badly that I’ll offend more so I just stick to my native English. I’m sure they’re dreaming of Pulitzers with fine copy like:

“Thump found friends in strange places and in all shapes and sizes. Such as the frogs that croaked ‘KEK!’ They were full of surprises!”

and

“Thump was caught talking of grabbing all things pusillanimous. Protesters even made pink hats: their ire was unanimous.”

Ew—now I need a shower!!

IT really is a fucking cult. The Nazis would tell these guys to tune it down.

I’m still so happy that happened. I’ve never been to Alabama but that was one of the elections I got the most joy from because the difference between the two candidates not just on the issues but as men couldn’t be anymore stark.

I always feel bad due to my lingustic limitations abroad. I want to learn the native language or at least parts of it but I’m afraid I’ll butcher it so badly that I’ll offend more so I just stick to my native English. I mean if I know a phrase like please or thank you, I definitely do use it and I go out of my way to be respectful and eager to learn more.

Try as hard as you can with whatever you’ve got. Even if you are mangling their language, they’ll appreciate you trying to communicate in their tongue. Trust me on this. My French, Spanish, and Italian is horrible, and I can completely embarrass myself by trying to use it.

But it’s worth it.

Parisiens are notorious for being surly bastards, but I found that if you just made an attempt at speaking French, they were very accommodating. Surly, yes, but smiling and helpful. And not spitting in your food. Bonus. And having a pack of Gauloises was helpful.

One of my college buddies has a story about trying to order dinner at a restaurant when he was in France. He attempted to do it in French. When he was done and the waiter walked away a guy from the next table leaned over and said “You speak French like a Spanish cow.” He wasn’t sure whether to laugh or be insulted.

And——they’ll do it while they’re watching a video clip of him running from the press today as he headed for Camp David and after knowing he didn’t have the nerve to come to the podium, stand by SHS and make a comment yesterday. I had my problems with GWB’s policies and some of his decisions on issues, but I cannot imagine him running away from the press as much as I’ve seen the Talking Yam do it. His supporters won’t notice that this is very unusual behavior for a media hog, a man who has, in the recent past, never seen a camera he’d run away from.

re: #18 electrotek

“Why the fuck do white Americans see Japanese as caricatures STILL?”

I see the answer, elctrotek, being the same reason some of them seem to think that no Black Americans have jobs, and we all grew up in single-parent families in the ghetto with a mom who had/s five kids with five different men. Stereotyping and scapegoating, along with a dash of carefully-groomed brainwashing. It’s systemic, and I don’t know whether we’ll ever move past these things. If we ever move forward and abandon these negatives, I feel that there will be other things the society will focus on that will create divisiveness. As you probably already know, I grew up black in the South under Jim Crow, and although some things have changed, the aforementioned characteristics can still be found 50+ years later in some of our citizens. That’s why the Unite the Right Rally occurred in Charlottesville last year in the 21st Century with a whole new cast of characters pushing the same vileness that their predecessors pushed when I was a child.

One thing I use is the Czech for “Please excuse me; unfortunately, my Czech isn’t so good” as a preface if I have to ask a fairly complex question in a shop - the younger set here will ask if I speak English, the older folks I can speak German or Russian (German, yes….Russian, a tiny handful of words). And I’ve been told my Czech pronunciation is very good, particularly with ř, which is very difficult to master. Ř is a cross between a staccato rolled “r” and “zh” executed simultaneously.

Someone might wanna point out that early signs of Reagan’s Alzheimers began appearing around the time of his re-election campaign in 1984. IIRC, it was during one of the debates with Mondale - Reagan definitely looked lost and confused, but he was able to soldier on because of his actor’s training.

But there were visible signs that, in hindsight, something was wrong with President Reagan.

I’m sure they’re dreaming of Pulitzers with fine copy like:

“Thump was caught talking of grabbing all things pusillanimous. Protesters even made pink hats: their ire was unanimous.”

Ew—now I need a shower!!

Acid bath with a Brillo. And, grammar and vocabulary ass, here. Pusillanimous may sound like pussy (cue Beavis and Butthead laugh) but that first sentence makes zero sense.

Literal translation — Grabbing things lacking courage.

WTF? There’s not even a vague hint at a metaphor to grasp at so it would make sense.

The old Ronald Reagan playbook?

It’s not a playbook when it’s reporting facts.

The fact that everyone around Trump knows he is a tangerine toddler who only wants to hear things that he agrees with and will treat anyone who argues with him otherwise as the enemy is well known and has been identified for years.

Trump is a sociopath and is mentally unfit for any elected office, let alone the presidency.

The GOP refuses to act because they’re continuing to get their way. The only way that changes is if the Democrats retake Congress, and the Senate will be an impediment because a guilty verdict on impeachment requires 2/3 vote.

There’s no way any of these craven GOPers will do that.

Very little new in the book by page 686, at least for LGF regulars. My major take away is nausea at what is revealed about the character of the characters. There is no class there. These are venal, incompetent, careless, willingly ignorant … never mind, my vocabulary is too big to go on. You really don’t want any of these people as neighbors: “In the Oval Office, in front of her father, Bannon openly attacked her. ‘You,’ he said, pointing at her as the president watched, ‘are a fucking liar.’ Ivanka’s bitter complaints to her father, which in the past had diminished Bannon, were now met by a hands-off Trump: “I told you this is a tough town, baby.’”

Seeing that every single person associated with this admin is a proven liar, of course truth is questionable. But it’s what and that they said it that’s the story. You’re 100% spot on.

He just looks perpetually shell-shocked. I feel bad for him, but the rest of them deserve whatever karma visits upon them.

Compassion, altruism really, is all that keeps us from being like them. Share it even with them - for does not even the tax collector love those who love them? Loving our neighbor as we love ourselves is hard and made all the harder when they are our enemy. But that is the lesson to remember.

Tuesday Landowners v TransCanada will be heard in the state Supreme Court.

The landowners are still seeking compensation from TransCanada for legal fees and court costs from fighting the foreign company’s eminent domain threats and tarsands export pipeline project for seven years. These same Nebraska farmers and ranchers have been to countless court hearings, intervenor hearings, state, federal and local public hearings and community meetings over the past seven years — and are still standing strong to resist this pipeline that threatens our land and water.

It won’t convince anyone who is part of the GOP crazification factor. That’s not the point.

The point is to hammer this home with the magic balance fariyists and the “I don’t vote because politics doesn’t affect me” crowds. Those are the people to convince.

I noted a statistic that broke out the voters in Texas in the last election. Unlike my state’s usual approximate 80% turnout, Texas is not a red state, it’s a non-voting state (the percentage of non-voters there is almost as high as the percentage of voters here).

Hmm. Voting Democratic? Excellent idea. Thank G-d my late mom taught me how to do it. :)

My mother taught me not to vote because I was in the military. I ignored her advice.

She was really upset when I ran for office (because veteran).

That said, when Mark Kirk and Donald Trump were on the Illinois ballot, her attitude was “hell no” and she registered to vote for the first time in her life.

I was really happy to see Kirk lose. That bigoted line he pulled on Duckworth.

Those are the people to reach.

you have a point there

This isn’t the first time Trump ran for office. He did it before, twice.

“Everything that I’ve done is 100% proper. That’s what I do, is I do things proper.” -@POTUS,

That should be ‘properly’. I guess “the best words” don’t include adverbs.

….to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!

Hang on, how many Presidents of the US were not elected on the first try? The only modern version (ie post WW2) I can think of is Richard Nixon.
