but true reform would involve a lot of things that people will never accept, like a universal ID card for all citizens and legal residents. It can be as simple as issuing photo SS cards in one version for citizens and another for residents.
It would involve reforming labor laws.
And it would necessarily involve an amnesty for people who have live here, obeyed the law and paid their taxes.
It would involve controlling our borders. A wall is not an answer in itself, some physical restrictions might be needed, but the main restrictions should be legal and administrative.
It degenerates into “deport them all” because that’s what conservatives want to do.
Do you think for a second if I had my citizenship stripped I would be allowed to stay (or draw my VA disability compensation)? I would become a stateless person in an instant with no rights (because Poland wouldn’t take me either).

2. I don’t know about law, but airlines can reasonably be wary of carrying passengers who are close to term.

I know somebody who’s on the case. Two takeaway (because this person cannot say anything). Trump is no match for what he’s up against, and most of the stuff they find will never see the light of day. She said she handled him fine, but he bitched about how unfair she was and used his normal tactics of calling it a scam, blah, blah, blah.

It’s a BFD.
Both groups, whether wealthy from China or Russia or poor from Mexico are doing the same thing., i.e. taking advantage of our birthright laws. Ultimately, only the Russian children may be ultimately welcome as adults if they learn to speak perfect English and thoroughly assimilate. We have well demonstrated the xenophobia of our country the past few years, have we not?
The “buying citizenship” is BS. All of those children born here are citizens. What makes the wealthy ones okay to the Trumps and others at the time of their births is the profit they make from their mothers’ stays while they are here giving them their money. They don’t give a shit otherwise about the poor or the wealthy. They only care about the money right now.

But disengaging wouldn’t be the responsible adult thing to do, as desirable as it seems.
I’ve found that reading the comments and feeling the sense of community among the folks here reminds me of all the good people out there and of my obligations to resist.
So thanks lizards, for contributing to what sanity I retain. Even if occasionally I read interactions and want to post the video of the lizard farting in a bathtub in response. ;-)

Looking down through the breakdown by parties, Civic Youth cited above notes that in Virginia around 70% of the 18-20 vote went to Ralph Northam and Democratic candidates. 29% went to Ed Gillespie, and the last 1% to other candidates.
In 2013, the vote count was significantly lower for Democrats. (This might also indicate that a combination of disdain for Republicans and Democratic ideas and voter engagement is having an effect: Many voters form their political opinions early in life and do not change much.)

Awesome! Kris Kobach presented his voter fraud stuff in Kansas today (A Daily Kos article written by Chris Reeves, who did a lot to get voter turnout last year in Kansas).
But what rate of false positives exist in comparison to the alarming rate, as Representative Parker pointed out, of 1 potential voter at the top end in every 2 counties in the state? Is the false positive greater or smaller than the rate of totally unverified bad voters?
With that, Representative Vic Miller (D-Topeka) began to think about the statistics being discussed and pivoted to the question that shut down the room: “Secretary of State Kobach, per our records, it appears so far all of the voters prosecuted have been Republicans. Isn’t that an anomaly? Is it odd that 100% of the voter fraud in this state is by Republican voters?” Kobach, answering that he hadn’t checked voter registration in his cases, said he preferred not to speculate. “Maybe,” contended Rep. Miller, “Republicans are genetically predisposed to voter fraud?” the shot, a jab at racist commentary in a town hall by Representative Alford (R-Ulysses) was quickly followed with, “that’s how ridiculous it sounds,”.

Big conglomerate decided it should only offer one premium ice cream, so that breyer’s and B&J would not compete against each other. So, Breyer’s went cheap: no more all natural, no more simple ingredients — just more fillers, emulsifiers, and what not.
Now Breyer’s is really no different from any store brand ice cream, but I reckon people buy it because like me they grew up with fond memories. Brand loyalty.

It was a simple model. Breyer’s was hipster long before it was hip to be all-natural. Cost maybe 2x as much as other brands, but my parents decided it was worth it. You could really tell the difference between Breyer’s and other brands. Now not so much.
I also remember how crushed I was when I learned Haagen Dazs was not really an imported brand, but was just an overpriced domestic brand with a foreign-sounding name.

Like Isaly’s here in Ohio. Now the name is on Klondike Bars owned by some other corporation. For the longest time they had a great selection of real ice cream and killer sherberts. All that is gone. Oh yeah, a good snack bar too with their “chip chop ham” sandwiches that people loved.
But now we see the cycle come around again as Columbus has Jeni’s which is wildly popular…in spite of issues a few years back. She’ll probably grow big, sell off and then be gone too sometime.

I remember when Breyers’ was still part of Kraft and had no artificial additives in their ice cream products. After getting bought by Unilever, they have systematically not only reduced the size of their packaging (moving from 2 quart to 1.75, then to 1.5 quart containers), they also have completely abandoned the no-additives stance to the point that several of their products are no longer allowed to be called ice cream due to the fact they have almost no cream at all in them anymore.

Like Pylon, B-52s, and Swimming Pool Qs, I knew of Love Tractor from my older brother’s record collection (he DJ-ed at his small college in Ohio and brought home promo albums while I was in high school). I went to Atlanta in fall of ‘83. They may have been still going, but I didn’t get to see them. I didn’t have a car until my junior year and that’s when I started going to 688 and midtown (saw RuPaul dancing). I actually went to Athens to see cousins a couple of times, but I never went to 40 Watt or anywhere else to see the scene—huge regrets. When I was in high school late-night djs at the University of Illinois station WPGU were pushing the REM EP “Chronic Town” hard and i was a big fan, so I was excited to get to see them up close.
