In Which Steve Bannon Gets a Subpoena for Grand Jury Testimony in Mueller’s Russia Investigation

Politics • Views: 30,509

Today we’re learning about the drop of a rather large shoe in Robert Mueller’s investigation of the Trump campaign’s Russia connections: Stephen Bannon has been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury.

This comes on the heels of Donald Trump’s reckless, vicious attacks on Bannon, which makes it especially interesting.

WASHINGTON — Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist, was subpoenaed last week by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, to testify before a grand jury as part of the investigation into possible links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

The move marked the first time Mr. Mueller is known to have used a grand jury subpoena to seek information from a member of Mr. Trump’s inner circle. The special counsel’s office has used subpoenas before to seek information on Mr. Trump’s associates and their possible ties to Russia or other foreign governments.

I was not expecting him to be called to testify, at least not at this point.

Monkeys use trees to catapult themselves out of Japanese laboratory

I wonder if one hero monkey had to stay behind to launch the 2nd to last monkey.
Unfortunately for the monkeys, they had no step 2 to their plan, and failed to run away.

And where, exactly, is this point? Can you show me on a map? Or in the script? It always feels like the beginning of the end, wherever that is.

Craig’s advantage in this is that no one would have sex with him, so there’s no chance of being a revenge porn victim himself.

My favorite part of his whole skeevy skam is this:

Mr. Brittain’s past exploits as a revenge-porn website entrepreneur who carried “ads” from a “lawyer” who offered to help take down nekkid pictures from the site, for the low low filing fee of $250 bucks — oddly, that “lawyer’s” website was registered/owned by by Craig Brittain.

In other news…Wallaby in custody after bouncing over Sydney Harbour Bridge

A police spokeswoman said the marsupial started in lane eight before hopping across a number of lanes on the bridge and exiting onto the Cahill Expressway and turning down Macquarie Street, heading for the Conservatorium of Music.

The speed on the Harbour Bridge was reduced while the wallaby was making its way south, and police pursued the animal before taking it into custody at the Conservatorium, the police spokeswoman said.

Interesting factoid from Krugman’s NYT OpEd today regarding how the south and midwest have fallen well behind the rest of the country in wealth generation:

“…the 2016 election largely pitted these rising regions against those left behind, which is why counties carried by Clinton, who won only a narrow margin of the popular vote, account for a remarkable 64 percent of US G.D.P., almost twice as much as Trump counties.”

His OpEd is titled “Know-Nothings For the 21st Century”. It is very on-point, as usual.

Technically no (it’s like that old joke, “What weighs more? A pound of feathers or a pound of lead?”) It’s just that fat cells take up a lot more space than muscle (that is, muscle cells are denser…so, fat vs muscle is sort of like a cotton ball vs. a pea)

And, as someone who used to be 5’10” but is now 5’9” - and 70 years old - I find his apparent growth in height from 6’2” to 6’3” over the last decade or so to be unbelievable. There is no way he is not at least an inch or more shorter than he used to be.

As #179 KingKenrod suggests, the “normal” purpose of these reports is to reassure the American people that the president isn’t going to have a heart attack behind the desk in the Oval Office. Trump has fucked up so many norms that nothing seems to really work right. I don’t think the military is compromised, and I don’t think we are going to have a coup. There is too much diffused power in our system to make a coup a real possibility.

Perhaps whatever group issued this assessment would care to be more specific about which counties, precisely, are “ungovernable.” They may be poor, they may have problems, they may need help, but ungovernable? I think not.

I don’t know what it’s like when the president comes to your clinic, but knowing how a routine clinic visit goes, and knowing how things change when a VIP comes through, I have some guesses about the report.

First of all, I doubt he was weighed. Weight is gotten before you see a doctor at all, usually by the aide taking you in. I can imagine that a president, surrounded by Secret Service, is going to come in, a polite aide asks him to step on the scale, and Trump, in that dismissive way he usually has when addressing people, just shakes his head. Nobody’s going to make him step on the scale, nor would they make any regular patient step on the scale if for some reason the patient couldn’t or didn’t want to. They’d just ask him how much he weighed. And he’d say 239, which would be written down, and that’s just what it is. If there was some specific disease process that they were looking for where weight mattered (and, unfortunately, just being a tub of lard doesn’t count), then they might investigate further, but a routine process like this isn’t something anyone’s going to fight over. Similarly, if he was measured for height at all, nobody’s going to press the slide and muss his hair, which easily adds 2 inches to his height. All a doctor is going to see is what’s written down, and he’s unlikely to embarrass any patient, much less a commander in chief, by looking at a weight and going ‘hmm, I suspect you’re more of a fatass than this’.

Secondly, I don’t doubt that he does have good genes, and it’s not uncharacteristic for a doctor to say so. For a 70 year old, he’s not in bad shape. Some might even say good shape - I’ve seen a lot worse. He’s active and plays golf a ton, hasn’t had multiple surgeries, doesn’t appear to be taking a ton of meds for blood pressure, diabetes, and the like, and is able to perform all activities of daily living and then some. These are low bars, but they’re good enough for an average 70 year old to declare them reasonably healthy. To be 70 and able to do light outdoor exercise almost daily while also dealing with only mild dementia is pretty fair. To be lucky enough to not be dealing with cancer or any chronic condition like arthritis, diabetes, and so on is in fact a sign of good genes, doubly so when you consider that he eats like shit. Some people are just lucky like that. It’s part of why I also believe when he says he doesn’t drink - light drinkers and nondrinkers are much more likely to be like that, as well as nonsmokers.

The 30 point MMSE he describes is not for dementia, it’s used to assess acute delirium or confusion. Nor does it say anything about sociopathy, narcissism or language skills, which are his major deficits. Not sure I believe the BP and HR, but it’s not impossible, I guess. I did not hear any particular toadying in what the doc said, though it’s not quite a normal way of reporting it, but I attribute that in no small part to the scrutiny in the room and that the whole event is under in general.

Isn’t Ambien the one where people get in their cars & go driving without knowing a thing?

Under state law, the effects of Ambien and other sleeping pills count as impairing driving. The law says that any drug counts if it affects the brain, nervous system or muscles, which Ambien definitely does. Additionally, drowsiness from any cause leads to unsafe driving, and the effects of Ambien on driving are well documented. This is true even when taken on its own, in recommended doses—your doctor should warn you not to drive while under the effects of this drug.

He can ask for the nuclear football and codes but can’t drive…
More seriously, lets say he is two hours into his sleep pattern and on Ambien. An aide with a Pentagon General in tow rushes in with some horrible news of some incident like a dangerous looking missile launch from some hated place. Some “shithole”.

The average height loss for human beings is roughly half an inch per decade after age 40, with somewhat accelerating loss after 70. So if Trump was ever 6’3” he should be about 6’1-and-a-half”. To me it was never about whether he was healthy or not, it was about finding one thing that he couldn’t “doctor”. Well, this one ain’t it, the fix was in here too. Maybe the doctor, like Cotton, never “heard” anyone say that Drumpf staffers filled out the entire form in advance, and the admiral doctors job was to assess those numbers. Just like Bornstein.

I’ve had mornings where I wondered how something ended up where it is, but whatever it is, it happened before I climbed into bed. I know better than to EVER drive after taking the stuff.

Yeah, not having to worry about money and having people to attend your every need tends to make things pretty easy on you even if you don’t have the best lifestyle habits.

More people need to shed light on John Kelly’s bigotry. He’s not some innocent bystander, he’s a willful accomplice in Trump’s race hatred

bystander? kelly might in fact be the puppetmaster

I’m of the opinion that stress might be the absolute worst thing for people’s health; even worse that obesity, alcohol use, and smoking.

That said, a medical professional, I am not.

Psychopathy also seems to be a life-preserver, since no conscience = no stress (see Pinochet who lived to his 90s, Mugabe who’s around the same age and still hasn’t croaked, ancient Nazi war criminals, etc)

The thing is, New California wouldn’t be a Republican state; Hillary Clinton carried it by more than 640,000 votes. Honestly, Democrats need to start sponsoring these kinds of measures to increase Californians’ clout in the Senate.

Just from that screenshot, if he’s 6’ 2”, he’s got to be every bit of 300 lbs. No fucking way he’s 239 unless my body is a serious outlier.
