Trump Does It Again - Torches GOP Plan to Hold Children’s Health Insurance Program for Ransom and Blame Democrats

Politics • Views: 31,162

Another classic Trump moment today, as he destroys the GOP’s plan to accuse Democrats who vote no on the spending bill of not caring about children, because the bill includes a short term extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

On Thursday morning, President Trump torched that strategy with a single tweet, indicating that CHIP should not be attached to the short-term spending bill at all.

The declaration upends 11th-hour negotiations on Capitol Hill that were already teetering on the edge of collapse due both to Democratic opposition and internal Republican divisions.

It’s hard to know which is more despicable — Trump’s incompetence at governing, or the Republican Party’s attempt to hold a vital children’s health insurance program for ransom, and blame Democrats for it.

So I think I’ll just go with: “Man, all of these people really suck.”

I didn’t think that the loose alliance of the GOP (the aristocrats) with Trump and his base (the barbarians) would last long.

I’m amused to see it implode in such a spectacular manner though.

Of course with Trump, he might sign a bill anyway if it comes to his desk with CHIP authorized. But if the GOP isn’t offering either an immigration bill or CHIP reauthorization, there is no reason for any Democrat to vote for it. That’s if the Republicans can even get a shirt-term bill passed in the House, which right now looks iffy.

The administration is a mess

WASHINGTON — The White House says President Donald Trump supports the House effort to avert a government shutdown and fund a popular children’s health insurance program for six years.

“The President supports the continuing resolution introduced in the House,” White House spokesman Raj Shah says in a statement. “Congress needs to do its job and provide full funding of our troops and military with a two-year budget caps deal. However, as the deal is negotiated, the President wants to ensure our military and national security are funded. He will not let it be held hostage by Democrats.”

This at 1:01 pm today. WTF.

The problem with that is that the Fascism is more popular than the Plutocracy, so the GOP isn’t likely to give up on it.

If they go as far as rounding up opposition politicians, the only thing I’m left with deciding whether seeking political asylum in Canada or Mexico would be better (since they are equidistant from my home).

Well, to a certain extent, every generation has young men who were awkward with women and such. I was such a person - I managed to get through all of high school and a six-year hitch in the Navy with zero dates.

After my first wife dumped me over epilepsy, I went another eleven years with zero dates. (Being homeless probably contributed to that.)

My wife now met me through a specialised dating site. She was looking for Romance scammers (working with the Webmaster) and flagged up my account due to conflicting information on it. (I guess my scam worked since we’re married for nearly eleven years now. /s)

Dating is strange and everyone doesn’t get it right away.

My branch is two blocks away and I can walk there if I have to. I know that they’re blood-sucking varmints not to mention straight-up criminals for their role in the mortgage meltdown and fake accounts.

I’d just like to note that not all of us who work for the stagecoach and horsies are blood-sucking varmints or straight up criminals. There are thousands of us on the tech side, and while I can only speak for my experience, I can tell you people were staggering around in a daze after the fake account scandal broke. We didn’t have a clue, and worse yet, there were no technological signs anything was wrong. I’ve thought about it a lot. How could we have detected the problems? In so many of the accounts, they were for legit customers and the accounts looked legit! It wasn’t like counterfeit money was being deposited.

People are still unhappy and angry about what happened, but don’t blame all of us-we didnot know.

I don’t blame the everyday workers at Wells-Fargo for the account fiasco (the clerks, the IT folks, &c). The blame belongs squarely on the upper-level management that required certain new account targets to be met, and the lower management that perpetrated the fraud.

I’m still not going to open a bank account with them.

I totally agree, as a formerly awkward tomboy (well, I’m still that, lol)….I guess maybe the anger over being rejected is what I worry about more than anything. So many of these young men seem totally unwilling to look at themselves, and when they do, they seem more worried about what the guys think of them then what women do. I know there’s a lot of misogyny baked into this, but it has to come from somewhere. The internet helps reinforce this, when it could help in being a solution. But a recurring theme in these men is this sense of really awful and destructive entitlement. That just because you’re nice or show interest in a woman she’s required to do something for you. Life and relationships are messy and when they are, there seems to be this giving up and resigning to hate. That hate can fester into violence.

To be clear, I am not worried about my son going that route (we’ve already had a long talk about Nazis and finding them at metal shows, he’s smart enough to run from that shit and has in the past), with him I worry about being lonely and sad and isolated. For now at least.

I’ve noticed the bolded a lot and I hate saying it, I see it a lot in the ASD community. There’s this guy I met through an Asperger’s Facebook group. He constantly tells me about how “easy” women have it compared to guys because of courtship rules. I mean yeah do I wish courtship were easier for men on the spectrum? Of course, I do. But I don’t blame women for that the way a lot of these guys do and you’re right. The internet seems to re-enforce a lot of this sexism. There’s gotta be away to help people who have real feelings of loneliness without resorting to sexist bullshit. Loneliness doesn’t play favorites with gender.

Well, to a certain extent the misogamy part has always been there (I paid for a dinner and movie and she didn’t put out?) but the Internet certainly helps put that on steroids. There are plenty of people who are quite willing to manipulate people through the Internet for nefarious purposes (so-called Islamic State was particularly good at that).

I can’t offer a solution here (my own son is in the same boat on dating I was) other than to teach a child to recognise extremism when it is presented to that child, regardless of the means (conversations, Twitter, &c).

Being on the spectrum can be so tough. You feel like you’re aware enough that people treat your fairly normally but aware of your limitations too. It’s different than having a physical handicap too. I’m not trying to wallow in self pity here because I’ve tried not to do that in recent years but it’s a tough middle ground that high functioning ASD people face.

What I want out of this world is people to respect their differences and acknowledge their shared humanity. I have no illusions about a completely color blind society but I do want people to treat people as people and in spirit with MLK treat people by their character not their skin color and or country of origin. There are so many immigrants I’ve met that I’d much rather associate with than native born Americans who make me cringe with their hatefulness and hostility towards anyone not like them.

Relationships are awkward in the best of circumstances, especially new people and figuring out where you stand with people and what they want or need from you. Hell, I’m 57 and I still can’t figure all that shit out. I also don’t think I’m typical for most women.

When I was a kid, I was the only girl on our block in my age group. I either played with the boys or had no friends. On one side I had the Flynn brothers, our other neighbors were the Myers boys. Down the street was the Glenn family and their two sons and my buddy Robert who used to walk me to school so the creepy Davis brothers wouldn’t pick on me on the way to school. My dad got me a boy’s bike that matched my brother’s and I spent my time with boys outside playing kickball, riding bikes and watching them do dumb shit while I laughed at them. In high school, most of my friends were guys, same with after graduation. I dressed then as I do now, like a teenager from the Grunge era, flannel shirts, tshirts, jeans, band tshirts, Converse sneakers or biker or hiking boots. It’s what I am comfortable in. I never fit with groups of girls, they annoyed me too much and didn’t want to do the stuff I did. I don’t wear makeup, rarely dress up and I wish I could still have guy friends but that doesn’t work well in a marriage, I mean I can’t even imagine telling my husband I was going out to party with a bunch of dudes, lol. Trying to fit with suburban housewives has NOT gone well either, so I find myself in a weird in between place, at 57 FFS.

So I get the isolation, the not fitting in part. I just feel sad that it seems so many men are just not willing to care a little less what “the boys” think and maybe care a lot more about what women they meet might care about. Instead they nurture this horrible anger, and it poisons whatever it touches.

Just posting this from Charles Pierce to remind everybody what totally worthless empty suits even the “renegade” republicans are.

On Thursday, the committee voted out 17 nominees to the federal judiciary and three crucial nominees to be assistant attorneys general. Because of the events of the past few months, the Judiciary Committee of the new Congress is now split 11-10, Republican to Democrat. Every single Republican voted for every single one of the president*’s nominees. Such all-wind-and-no-rain empty suits as Jeff Flake of Arizona and Ben Sasse of Nebraska barely looked up from their phones in order to say “Yea” to hand lifetime employment, and considerable prosecutorial powers, to some seriously dubious characters. (I guess Flake has no problems with a Stalinist president*’s putting people on the federal bench until they go off to that big CPAC in the sky.) Eleven of the votes taken—including all three DOJ appointments—went through along straight party lines.

Nevertheless, they persist in voting together continuously.

Nope. So I made him sit there and warm up the car and handed him an ice scraper, lol. Yep. Even with a car port we still end up with snow on the car (wind tunnel effect) I clear everything while the card is warming up. Rear window defroster are great, but you still need to clear the side windows (and mirrors) as well.

Same here, minus the car port. When there are big snow dumps here, it’s amazing how many people who should know better around here drive with a small hole scrapped on the windscreen and the driver’s window rolled down leaning out to see other traffic.

This still amuses me probably far more than it should, given the context — I mean, I expect it in Westword, the local free(spirited) newsmag, but in the totally middle-class suburban coupon mailer?

You folks who purchase will have to tell me if these are good prices:
$99 Flower Oz
20% off 100MG Edibles
$18 Flower 1/8th
$19 Gram Wax
$19 Gram Shatter

Then there are the specials:
Early bird special from 8-10 AM - $18 8ths Top Shelf!
Every Tuesday you can get 20% off cartridges and disposable pens!
Every Wednesday you can get 20% off edibles!

Plus discounts for veterans and medical card holders.
There’s even an ATM on site so you don’t have to carry cash around, since the Feds still won’t let these folks bank like a normal business.

Most consumer-grade rubbing alcohols are already a shade over 2:1 isopropyl alcohol to water; you could stick that in a spray bottle “straight” and use it. The only reason I can see to add extra water is to stretch the alcohol.

The Power of Capitalism compels you:

Stormy Daniels Once Claimed She Spanked Donald Trump with Forbes Magazine (goes to Mother Jones)

I do not eagerly await the release of that sex tape at all.

Daniels was serious enough about running [for the US Senate] that she embarked on a May 2009 “listening tour” of the state and held discussions with local political consultants. Those conversations included coming up with possible campaign contributors. According to a May 8, 2009, email written by an operative advising Daniels, who asked not to be identified, Daniels at one point scrolled through her cellphone contacts to provide her consultants with a list of names. The email noted that the potential donors included Steve Hirsch, the founder of an adult entertainment company; Theresa Flynt, the daughter of Hustler’s Larry Flynt; Frazier Boyd, the owner of a strip club chain; and Jenna Jameson, the so-called “Queen of Porn.” Also on the list: Donald Trump.

This email was sent to Andrea Dubé, a Democratic political consultant based in New Orleans. In response, Dubé expressed surprise that Daniels was friendly with Trump. “Donald Trump?” she wrote. “In her cell phone?”

“Yep,” the other consultant replied. “She says one time he made her sit with him for three hours watching ‘shark week.’ Another time he had her spank him with a Forbes magazine.”

Dubé and the other consultant confirmed to Mother Jones they exchanged these emails.

mr. klys gave me a set that does different colors for Christmas two years ago and I really need to figure out where/how I want to use it. Because I love silly lighting effects that involve rainbows.

Well all I am looking for is something that will give me enough light to see the keyboard /desk top and reduce eye strain from the monitors. The fixture I am retrofitting is a two (40W) tube florescent shop light. Figure I am going to have to go with 4, 4 foot strips.

If this works out, may also seriously consider the bright white to use as emergency lighting throughout the house.

It was the same way in 2014, taxes were sometimes prohibitive and the black market kept flourishing. We’re more than four years into full legal here in Colorado, prices and taxes have stabilized somewhat, and the industry is consolidating. There was once many hundreds of weed stores in Denver, that’s been whittled down by market forces, and now we have chain stores! Oy.

Well my LED strip and power supply came in today. Using them to replace the florescent tubes and ballast that croaked out on the fixture above my computer desk. If it works out, will probably retrofit some of the florescent fixtures in the house as well.

I’ve been rotating LED bulbs into my house for the last 3ish years. Any time an incandescent burns out, in goes an LED, though not necessarily in the same spot - if it’s a rarely-used light, I’ll swap a more-used incandescent out and put it in the rarely used fixture, and put the LED in the more commonly used one. The only complaint I have are the track lights in the living room, that sometimes flicker weirdly for no obvious reason. Otherwise, they’ve been great.

A popular weed store in Parachute, CO (80 miles from the Utah border on Interstate 70) called Tumbleweed is opening a huge new store in Eagle, CO (closer to all the ski areas) sometime next year. They’ll be competing with the OG Eagle weed store Sweet Leaf Pioneer, right down the street, though the new Tumbleweed will be closer to the interstate than Sweet Leaf Pioneer.

It’s… well, weed is fully legal here, has been for four years now. I still think it’s a trip.

I use both incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, depending on where. My basement has a 300W incandescent to keep my kitchen pipes from freezing. My kitchen has fluorescents, and my living room has CFLs that I replaced the overhead fluorescents with. Other rooms which we don’t use much have 40-100W incandescent lamps.

Tonight they’re shredded and sauteed in bacon grease, then adding back the bacon, some garlic, kalamata olives, butter, lemon juice, and a few spices. Then pasta and some kielbasa, because I wanted a little more protein in it.

Does grass mix with skiing? If anyone ever lit up (or cracked a beer) on our skydiving drop zones, we’d shut down for the day and send the helicopter home. I went to one DZ in upstate NY that didn’t play that way, and left without jumping. Months later they crashed a jumpship with all on board.

Trump administration appointee Carl Higbie resigned Thursday as chief of external affairs for the federal government’s volunteer service organization after a CNN KFile review of racist, sexist, anti-Muslim and anti-LGBT comments he made on the radio.
“Effective immediately, Carl Higbie has resigned as Chief of External Affairs at CNCS,” Samantha Jo Warfield, a spokesperson for CNCS, said in a statement.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Higbie’s resignation.

The point was harassment of the protestors (and journalists arrested) with an eye to quell future protests.

Considering the charge brought (property damage, levelled against all of them though the DOJ could never identify which if any were actually involved in that), I can’t think of another reason why Sessions pushed this.

Yikes! Talk about lax immigration screening. An actual honest-to-Cthulhu cannibal managed to get into the country. He has the right skin tone though and Canterbury is not a shithole in any case (though it does harbor some weirdos).

Nurse convicted of plotting to eat 14-year-old girl detained in Nebraska

That was put up yesterday here. He is not an immigrant, he is a US citizen. He was deported from the United Kingdom after serving his sentence there.

Programming note to Mr. Johnson about weird behaviour on an image upload.

I’m using Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge at the moment, and on the image upload attempt I got this (replacing the LGF page):

{“success”:true,”tweetFlag”:false,”imageUrl”:”http:\/\/littlegreenfootballs.com\/weblog\/img\/anymouse\/2018\/01\/18\/confederate_snowflake.jpg”,”imageName”:”confederate_snowflake.jpg”,”originalImageWidth”:532,”originalImageHeight”:399,”scaledImageWidth”:532,”scaledImageHeight”:399,”fileSize”:35171,”fileTime”:1516322917,”fileDate”:”Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 4:48 pm PST”,”thumbWidth”:200,”thumbHeight”:150}

The image did upload correctly according to the library, but I was bounced out of the article. The image in question is in my next post.

I responded to their advert (a special Website they set up as an application). I got an automated response saying they would weigh applicants and get back for a 2017 series of shows. They never got back with me or any other person here I know (several of us applied, none were responded to).

I spoke to the household Chancellor of the Exchequer (my wife) about how we are financially situated if the Nihilist Caucus of the GOP manages to scuttle the financing bill … she says we have sufficient funding (and our bills are paid far enough ahead) we could last a year or more (if we’re frugal).

So I guess we’ll be okay, but that isn’t the situation for most people who draw government pay or benefits.

Prosperity Gospel pimp Kenneth Copeland celebrates the delivery of his new Gulfstream V last week.

Kenneth Copeland Ministries Takes Possession of Gulfstream V

(Facing camera) “Are you seeing this? ARE YOU SEEING THIS? I hope so, because you paid for it!”

Copeland, 81, is an avid pilot and owns (excuse me, his MINISTRY owns) a number of other aircraft including a WACO sport biplane. These are based at the Kenneth Copeland airport, which is attached to his tax-free 6.3 million dollar “parsonage” outside Fort Worth.

In the meantime, desperate seniors all over the country are literally sending this bastard their grocery and prescription money, not to mention their children’s inheritance, in the hope that GAWD will reward them ten fold for the sacrifice.
