It’s simple: Tell them exactly what they want to hear. If they bomb, write a tell-all book about their incompetency. If they don’t, congratulations, you just got a promotion. Rinse and repeat.

Mia Love and Tim Scott call him out but those other folks … what could be the difference here?

Samantha Bee has it exactly right. Quit with the euphemisms (“racially-charged”) and use the word that actually represents Mr. Trump’s position on the issues: racist.

I sometimes wonder if Pulitzer Prizes should be extended to comedians, since they actually do the investigative work that many news outlets don’t.

Peeved by price gouging and shortages, hospitals will now make their own drugs

For four of the country’s largest hospital systems, enough is enough.

Sick of drug companies’ eye-popping price hikes and ridiculous shortages, the feisty hospital systems announced Wednesday that they’ve banded together and formed an unnamed non-profit to make their own steady supply of affordable generic medicines.

The leading hospital system, Intermountain Healthcare, released a statement explaining:

The new company intends to be an FDA approved manufacturer and will either directly manufacture generic drugs or sub-contract manufacturing to reputable contract manufacturing organizations, providing patients an affordable alternative to products from generic drug companies whose capricious and unfair pricing practices are damaging the generic drug market and hurting consumers. The company will also seek to stabilize the supply of essential generic medications administered in hospitals, many of which have fallen into chronic shortage.

Standing with Intermountain Healthcare is Ascension, SSM Health, and Trinity Health. The US Department of Veterans Affairs is also collaborating with the group. Together, they represent more than 450 hospitals across the country.

As she pointed out in her video, no investigative work needed. Trump has been publically known since the late 70s. Since he has run for president just about everything he says and does is racist. All you have to do is look, listen and deduct a bit and you come up with…the racist is a racist.

No, while Trump is certainly a racist he’s more than that. He’s a full blown white supremacist just like his senior aide and speech writer Stephen Miller.

Racist is used too much and has lost its power. Let’s start using the accurate term from now on.

It’s amazing how our local media avoids that, along with FOX News Channel.

When you only have conservative-leaning sources for news, that sort of thing does not get reported.

I wish Tim Steyer would by our local newspaper.

The best hope is that the NC case will be decided by the Wisconsin and Maryland cases which the Supreme Court has accepted and heard oral arguments. I think that seems likely that they didn’t need a third case mucking up the works. It might allow NC to delay redistricting until after 2018 which is bad, the appellate court ordered a change this month.

What I’m hoping from this whole thing is that it sends as many Republican politicians, strategists, and pundits to prison. I don’t think the conspiracy stopped with Trump and his campaign. It was all over the GOP map. You could probably find Russia contacts with every Republican Congressman, their staffs, a lot of Republican-leaning media types, and maybe even state level politicians. I don’t think it’ll actually be possible to do this kind of house-cleaning, but it’s probably one of the few ways we have to save the country.

Right. I mean I remain staunchly pro choice, lgbt, etc but I was baptized Catholic and the Catholic teachings imparted to my folks through theirs and in Dad’s case the Catholic school system definitely impact my philosophy. Reading the stories of others who have escaped indoctrination by their various churches and those positions (gays are evil, &c) makes me glad I was never subjected to that which has no evidence.

It also informs me of just how hard it is to escape lifetime indoctrination and immersion by an entire culture that pushes the same. I didn’t have to worry about being thrown out of my home and cut off from my family if I announced I didn’t believe in something asserted without evidence (though all my Methodist cousins but one did).

The United Methodist Church is not normally associated with “the religious right.” They nevertheless feel the same way as just about every other Christian church vis. atheists: We are to be shunned.

A lot is said about JWs and Seventh Day Adventists about shunning, but the reality is nearly every Christian church does it.

I am not welcome in any of my cousin’s homes but one because I am an atheist and no other reason.

It’s sad in a way that their religious faith is more important than their family (and they lost their damn minds when my sister was married), but that’s their problem.

Someone can be better than others and still have many weaknesses and blind spots. I’ve never said that he was perfect just a hell of a lot better than Bennie (heck, I don’t even hold that the Incarnation was “perfect” in that sense. See how he had to be taught by the Cananite woman for an example). He still upholds as dogma doctrines that I certainly don’t believe.

If I complain about puritopians getting in the way of some progress here, does that mean I should do just that in this realm too? Now I realize that those who hate religion will always believe that the only progress in to get rid of it but I don’t accept that. I’ll take what I can get to movie the world more forwards that backwards just as I do politically here.

I don’t know, I was raised Episcopalian, and we didn’t get that memo either. I have to say that, even though I left it long ago, the Episcopal church is about as close to a YMMV faith as I know of. No Catholic guilt, no Baptist hellfire, no evangelical end times. Also no bullshit about how the “wine” in the Bible was really grape juice. OTOH, listening to an Episcopal congregation try to sing hymns is like listening to a hundred gerbils rustling sawdust.

Hitchens was too busy hating to notice he was as good a poisoner as any religious person. But considering it’s fundamentalism far more than religion per se that is doing the poisoning, perhaps that’s not especially surprising?

Let it be remembered that MLK was an ordained minister. There’s a lot of legit gripes with religion to be had but religion like ideology is ruined not by Gods or non Gods but men and women. I choose not to believe but if religion guides people like William and other believing Lizards to do good, I can’t get in their way. I just wish and I know they do respect my agnosticism not as an attack on their faith but another perspective in understanding this world of ours.

Some are better singers than others :) Grace in Madison WI has a good choir, an exquisite organ and a very talented organist. The music there is a revelation in and of itself. I loved it when they used a Haydn mass setting as the service music one week.

Now the little church I’m at now? Not that good at all but a bit better than gerbils
