There also and I say this as a Slav were plenty of Slavs who willingly collaborated in the murders of Jews. Also, there aren’t “Jewish Slavs.” There are Jewish residents of Slavic countries but that’s different.

No, it’s New York.

Which is why we’re The Safest Big City in America.

In the 1980’s/early 90’s, we had 2000 murders a year; starting in 1994, Bratton started enforcing strict gun control. (the peak was 1990, with 2245 homicides)

2017 — 290.

So we’re down 85%.

The last time New York had less than 300 murders in a year, was 1959.

In a lot of cases, a choice must be made between safety and efficiency, and ease of maintenance. An airplane that must do everything AF1 does has the same issues.

Having said that, Republicans would have impeached Obama for asking for $24M for refrigerator changes.

I suspect that half the aircraft will have to be removed to access the refrigerators. It’s like working on a new car. Engineers build these fancy machines but have no idea how to repair them.

I suspect it has as much to do with who got the contract and how much they gave to Trump et al to get it.

So, last night the goofy coonhound came bounding up to the back door with a possum in her mouth and such a huge proud look on her face that said “Mom! Look what I found! Can I keep it?” (I think she had already named it George…)
I sternly told her no and to drop it, DROP IT RIGHT NOW!

Possum was dutifully dropped on the stoop and the dogs came indoors, radiating much sadness.

After about 20 minutes the possum started to move a little. After 35 minutes, it waddled off.

Right this damned minute, the damned possum is scratching at the backdoor (in the pouring down rain). I can’t tell if it wants to come indoors or if it wants the coonhound to come out and play.

Coonhound is apparently OK with either option. (Hint: not gonna happen)

Illinois for me. I don’t remember The Goodies, but I watched the Doctor Who with the long scarf (but it just didn’t take with me). But at the time I was listening to my brother’s Firesign Theater records and was developing a taste for that kind of absurdist humor.

I wanted to reply to him asking about that, but he’s got his replies limited.

They see that as pretty well limited to surveying stolen Indian land and getting it ready for transfer to private interests. Since that’s a done deal, the general welfare is no longer relevant.

Brooklyn teacher arrested for biting 5-year-old girl

A Brooklyn teacher chomped down on a little girl’s arm when the clingy child wouldn’t leave her side during class Friday, police said.

Shavonne Johnson, 37, a substitute teacher at Public School 66 on E. 96th St. in Canarsie, was arrested just before 1 p.m. and charged with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child, cops said.

Needless to say, the zombie sub has also been fired.

USA Today: Police: Michigan man celebrating birthday kills self after accidentally shooting friend

MERRILL, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a Michigan man celebrating his 21st birthday accidentally shot his best friend and then killed himself in grief.

WJRT-TV reports Zachary Woodcock shot himself minutes after he accidentally shot 21-year-old Richard Skillman, who died at the scene.

Saginaw County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Gomez says Woodcock was celebrating his birthday Jan. 19 with friends in his apartment in Merrill, northwest of Detroit.

Gomez says Woodcock returned from his bedroom with a handgun that “went off and struck Mr. Skillman in the chest.”

As others were helping Skillman, witnesses told police that Woodcock left the apartment.

Gomez says “they heard a shot, walked out and there he was.”

About 10 guns later were found in the apartment and Skillman’s car.

I’ve been reading a book called Respect Yourself about Stax Records. I knew about many of the artists on Stax, but I didn’t know much about William Bell and I’ve been playing catch-up on his music. He’s a great singer who wrote a lot of classic songs and he’s got a fairly new album produced by the great John Leventhal (who produced some of Rosanne Cash’s and Shawn Colvin’s best music). I wish he would have played his song “You Don’t Miss Your Water Til The Well’s Run Dry” for this Tiny Desk Concert, but it’s still pretty good.
