Thank you!! This “we must honor the troops” meme is becoming tiresome. We do honor the troops on specific days and through scores of government-funded programs. Can Republicans stop using the troops as shields for their awfulness? I didn’t know that military members and veterans were Republican tools but that appears to be how Republican politicians such as Trump see them.

When you’re a guy, it’s easy to disbelieve allegations of abuse against another guy, because you’d never have seen it. Abusers save the abuse for more private settings. It’s one reason they get away with it - knowing how and when to do it so nobody knows.

Disbelief is one thing. Calling his victims ‘character assassins’ - that’s a whole ‘nother thing.

What’s wrong with Democrats that they can’t just be clear about what they’ll do if they win in November by flipping Congress? Just be straight up and stop acting polite. They should run on stopping Trump’s agenda and impeaching him. We all know that they will need Republican Senators to impeach him but it’s still something they should run on — especially if Mueller provides them with strong evidence of wrongdoing by November.

To be honest, when I found out/was reminded that Nov. 11 this year is the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI*, I thought that a military parade of some sort to mark this notable date might be some sort of appropriate reminder.

Personally, I would prefer it to be something of a period piece: a battalion or so of soldiers in campaign hats and puttees close-order marching behind some Model T trucks, with a horse-cavalry detachment, and maybe a few teams pulling some French 75s. Who of course would halt right at 11:11am, and stand for a minute of silence as a tribute to the 116,000 or so Americans** (and who-knows-how-many-millions-of others) who died in that awful conflict.

But of course, Donald Trump has to have a hand in it, and as usual, it makes even the best idea turn to shit: what might otherwise be “sold” as a respectful Centennial memorial for the First World War just HAS to turned into a ego-boosting public spectacle for The Donald’s pathetic preening: and of course, all of it wrapped in the faux-holy rhetoric of “honoring The Troops” to try to deflect any criticism.

* of the combat on the Western Front at least: books like this remind us that fighting (often quite bloody fighting) went on on the peripheries for another 5 years or so.

** Figures for US casualties in WWI seem amazingly variable: this is just more-or-less the best “died in the war” number I could find.

I don’t understand how Rob Porter could have been handling all the paper flow to the president, handling all his documents, and not had a security clearance politi.co

And if you’re just a normie, you’re sweating your security clearance application, trying to figure out where you lived for two months five years ago and who to call about that, when exactly you got that speeding ticket two years ago, and if you need to report that you’ve been Facebook friends with the Irish girl you met last year. And if you got this stuff wrong, you could jeopardize your clearance and your entire career. Meanwhile, these criminal assholes are tossing top secret information around with no scrutiny whatsoever.

Reminder: Mueller’s got a lot on his plate (and he’s got a lot of smart and experienced lawyers looking at all of these):

He’s got RICO and financial crimes specialists. He’s got FISA specialists. He’s got subject matter experts for all of those various aspects. His lawyers are better than Trump’s team, especially as we’ve seen thus far.

Mueller also has better operational security around the grand juries and their workflow than the WH does, which leaks like a sieve.

None of this bodes well for Trump or any of his cronies, which is why they’re so desperate to smear and undermine the Mueller probe. The facts will out that Trump and his criminal syndicate were up to no good all along.

That’s a myth. At least in acoustic bicycles. Only bike stolen from me was a spray-painted piece of junk. First thief abandoned it when a pedal fell off. Second thief (after it was fixed) removed the $5 basket and took the $2.50 bike.

well as long as we’re going there…
my first was a yamaha R5 350. it was a 2 stroke street bike, not made for distance, but fast/slow/fast/slow riding. i wanted to tour so badly, i loaded it up and took it on the road, overheated it and melted a hole through a piston.

then i bought a cb750 as well. had that about 6 months.

What’s left of it.

The whole scalp reduction/bald spot on the back of his head thing reminds me of a joke my Dad told me.

Two guys are in a bar, and strike up a conversation. After a while, one of them says, “Look, I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I can’t help noticing that your mouth seems very small, and you have almost no lips.”

The other guy says, “No, no! I’m not offended! I used to weigh 500 lbs, but I went on a strict diet and exercise regimen, and lost 300 lbs. I felt great, but i had all this loose skin, just hanging off me. I went to a plastic surgeon, and what he did was to pull all the loose skin up to the top of my head, then he tied it up like a purse string, and cut off the excess.

“So, what is now my mouth used to be my belly button.”

“That’s amazing!” said the other guy. “That explains why it’s so small!”

“If you think that’s amazing,” replied the former fat man, “You should see what I wear for a necktie.”

re: #177 makeitstop

I saw him with The Attractions at the Ritz in NYC around the time of ‘This Year’s Model.’

He’s written some great songs since then. You gotta wonder how he picks a set list at this point, there’s just so much to choose from.

Hoping for primo tickets - the Capitol Theater in Port Chester is a great venue. We saw Dylan there last Spring.

Yeah. When I saw him in ‘07 he did about two solid hours or more. He got a lot in, but like you said, there is just so much material. He was doing a lot of “When I was Cruel” and “The Delivery Man.” I also saw him around 1982 or so and he did Imperial Bedroom and a ton of his early stuff. So luckily I got to hear a bunch of his material with the two shows.

Side fact. The guy that played bass in many of the bands I was in worked for the Columbus Dispatch and took the photo of Costello that was used in many national newspapers. Why was the photo used? It was the concert before Costello got in the famous fight at the downtown Columbus Holiday Inn bar during a drunken conversation with Stephen Stills and Bonnie Bramlett when he said some not nice things about Ray Charles. My buddy was right there in the bar trying to get some time with Elvis.

This photo…

My problem with Clara is that (IMHO) she overstayed her welcome. It would have been better to retire her with the end of Smith’s run, but instead they kept her on which left us with a season where she seemed less like a companion and more like a bitter ex.

According to fringe sites, countless right-wing Twitter personalities, newfound Trump family friends Diamond and Silk, and r/TheDonald, someone just leaked all of former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner’s contacts with the promise of more to come. The most popular theory is that the leak was perpetrated by a rogue FBI agent.

Unfortunately for them, it’s bullshit. The contacts that were released are actually from the original Guccifer hack of longtime Clinton family confidant Sidney Blumenthal in 2013. This specific list has been online since at least August 2016.

Being able to make a big parade happen, show off the killing power at his command, control all of those dangerous men, freak out people who think this is weird and are “weak” because they don’t like war, wave his death-cock at the rest of the world…this is 100% the dude’s fetish groove.

Hmm, makes good sense! Kinda like this guy:

Death-cock on the other hand is an entirely necessary term for discussing modern US politics.

Bitcoin is booming today after the US Senate discussed the possible introduction of new laws to combat the volatility of cryptocurrency and stop digital currencies from being used by scammers and terrorists. This morning, the price of Bitcoin soared by almost a third and all the other major cryptocurrencies also showed price growth too. The price of one Bitcoin is now sitting at just under $8,000 (£5,744) after skyrocketing from a low yesterday of just over $6,000 (£4,308). The surge may have been prompted by a US Senate hearing on virtual currencies in which Jay Clayton, chairman at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), said: ‘We may be back with our friends from Treasury and the Fed to ask for additional legislation.’ If America imposes strict new rules on the trading of Bitoin - but doesn’t ban it outright - it would make the notoriously wild and unruly cryptocurrency markets more stable.

Capaldi.

For the record, to me the shades & guitar are as much a part of my concept of him as Baker’s scarf.

Mrs. Fish doesn’t like Eccleston at all, but I thought he made a very fine Doctor. The fact that I like him least of the four new Doctors isn’t because he was bad, but because the whole group, in my estimation, was so good.

Tomi (of course) helps illustrate the reality at the core of wingnut opposition to DACA and any program that would provide amnesty for undocumented immigrants: That no matter how much they assimilate, no matter how much they and their children work towards the American Dream, no matter how much they will resemble the pasty white fucks who take “pride” in tracing their ancestry back to the poor schmucks who fell off the boat centuries earlier…they will never be “Americans.” They will always be outsiders, they will always be looked down upon, and they will never be seen as anything than the “cause” of America’s problems.

“Regret” implies they feel or will come to feel that their actions were wrong and shameful. Anybody who’s followed the antics of the GOP and their wingnut base in recent decades can tell you that there is no such thing as “regret” among them because they will always find a way to justify their actions. Before this is all over, they’ll insist that going after the FBI was “necessary” and they totally found evidence of “abuse of power” that needs “reform.”
