Breaking: Trump Praises and Defends Alleged Wife Beater Rob Porter Despite Photos, Wishes Him Well: “He Said Very Strongly That He’s Innocent”

Politics • Views: 33,150

This is what happens when America elects a misogynist president who unapologetically abuses and objectifies women: he defends other abusers.

Just the latest disgraceful episode in the ongoing sordid saga of this dishonest, corruption-riddled far right administration. And note that he’s almost certainly lying again when he says he “found out about it recently;” in reality, Trump and his aides knew about the allegations against Porter for more than a year.

UPDATE at 2/9/18 10:57:50 am by Charles Johnson

And to make it even worse, CNN now reports that Trump is blaming the whole mess on his communications director, Hope Hicks.

Every indication remains that the WH expected this to be yet another “he said, she said” story where they’d circle the wagons around Porter, they’d attack the press for repeating “rumors and innuendo,” and they’d attack the ex-wives as “looking for money.” They were totally blindsided by the photo and didn’t know how to address it other than to remain in total denial.

BTW, those looking for a stock-market trainwreck today will probably be disappointed: the DJ troughed again around the 23,400 level, but has bounced back (with which must certainly be help from our computer overlords financial advisors) to about the 23,600-700 range, which is probably going to be attempted to be established as a new “floor”/base. Maybe.

Trump jettisoned Porter because he became a political liability. Trump is keeping Kelly and Hicks on because firing them would be a political liability, just because they both know where all the bodies are buried.

This is what right wingers don’t get. They don’t get that their actions have consequences and they include both political and criminal.

It’s political, but it involves legal processes. It’s not a straight vote of no confidence as exists in most parliamentary systems. Rather, it is based on that nebulous phrase “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Whether or not that was originally intended to include things like “gross incompetence”, in practice it has come to mean “the president committed serious crimes.”

re: #50 Belafon

A suggestion: All accounts must get 50 or more karma before they are able to submit a page.

The code currently won’t let a new user post a page until they’ve been registered for at least 48 hours, and after that they need to have a karma rating of at least 10 or they’re limited to only one page per 15-minute interval. This prevents the mass dumping problem where they just post as many as they can as fast as they can.

These creeps are using compromised proxy servers in the US, and innocent-looking names and email addresses to register, so there’s no obvious way to tell at registration time. But every time one of them gets through, I add their IP’s CIDR range to a registration block list.

They’re hoping that sites aren’t monitored and won’t see/remove their spam posts, and then they get indexed by search engines so people searching for “AOL Support” have a chance of stumbling onto one of their spam traps and calling the bogus number.

I’ve found several sites where there are hundreds of these posts, in comment sections or places where users can contribute content, so to a certain extent this scheme is working for them.

But not here.

So this morning some random guy came and shoveled the sidewalk from the driveway to the house. Nowhere near public access, public sidewalk, nothing. It’s a good 40’ in from the street, 30’ or so from the public sidewalk.

I called hubby to ask if he hired someone. Nope.

I was willing to pay the guy… But he disappeared into the ether.

I don’t know what to think of this. It’s weirding me out.

At Christmastime, I was just starting to walk without crutches. I was limping, slowly. I went to the grocery store, limped around as I got my stuff, bought $250 worth of groceries, got it all out of the cart into the belt and realized I didn’t have my wallet. I’d either left it in the car or at the mail stop when I had just gotten my mail. The latter was now closed.

As I was ready to “run” out to the car, some random guy walks up to me and pays the bill. I said “I can’t ask you to do that” and he replied “Your not asking and I want to.”

I was blown away by the kindness. I thanked him profusely and told him I’d pay it forward.

I’m still shocked by that just thinking about it. And I’m tearing up at the memory of that kindness.

As many of you know, I met a girl online who has a very sick baby. Money for them is always tight. I came home from the store that night and sent her $250. It was the difference for them having the ability to have a real Christmas.

Holy cow. The president is functionally illiterate.

Can’t read
Can’t speak
Don’t ever see him write..except his variable signature

The way he speaks and reads off the teleprompter is a sure sign he has never read much of anything his whole life.

The fact he hasn’t read and has a poor grasp on just about everything tells you all you need to know about how he was as a student.

If Daddy hadn’t given him everything to get rolling, he’d be out on the streets and no one would know who he was.

Sad it didn’t work out that way as this country would have been better off never knowing who he was.

Traditional debates have the same exact weakness that I keep attributing to our political system: the assumption of good faith on all sides. Once one side learns to ratfuck the other side, all bets are off. And it’s usually the side that tries to act in good faith that gets punished for it.

Fox News pulled a column from its website that claimed that the U.S. Olympic Committee was trying to make the sporting event “darker, gayer, different,” created a backlash online. The piece was written by Fox News executive vice president and executive editor John Moody. Moody was responding to a Washington Post report quoting U.S. Olympic officials were are “pleased” that this year’s team “includes more African Americans and Asian Americans — and even the first two openly gay men — than recent winter squads.” Moody wrote: “In Olympics, let’s focus on the winner of the race — not the race of the winner.” Many groups, including GLAAD and Human Rights Campaign, criticized the piece. In a statement, Fox said the column “does not reflect views or values of Fox News.”

A lot of those liberal college kids have their hearts in the right place, but haven’t dealt with the kind of concentrated evil that forms US conservatism. So it isn’t surprising that Shapiro often does well in these ‘debates’.

Have I mentioned recently my view that traditional debates are often a shitty way of arriving at truth? E.g., the vulnerability of many sets of formal debate rules to a Gish galloper.

Ben Shapiro’s whole debate style is the Gish Gallop.

I’ve dealt with that in one of my religion counter-apologetics posts, including Ben Shapiro (he argues for creationism), and the ways to defeat the Gallop.

Trump tapped former Ford Motor Company lawyer Jim Carroll to join McGahn’s team. Carroll has since moved over to the Office of Management and Budget, where he serves as general counsel. I dunno. I think there are a handful of former “Team Red” cheerleaders who have genuinely started rethinking things in Trumpworld. I don’t think Rubin, or Charlie Sykes for that matter, will ever be Team Blue, but I do expect that their worldview is going to look different even after Trump is gone. And I’m OK with that. We need those voices out there.

Sorry. I’m on my phone. From that article:

A second “dossier” is circulating among Republicans in Washington that they say shows the Clintons’ influence on the FBI’s investigation. But the evidence of that is lacking.

It covers just eight pages, misspells names, and relies on only one Russian intelligence source.

The so-called second dossier echoes many assertions about Donald Trump’s activities with Russians that former British spy Christopher Steele made in his reports, now called “the Steele dossier.”

And the “second dossier” is gaining increasing attention in Washington, where Republicans say it provides additional evidence of anti-Trump taint in the Trump-Russia investigation.

But to paraphrase the late Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, we’ve read the second dossier, and it’s no Steele dossier. It’s not even a dossier

Exactly. Has any intelligence organization in the history of the world ever offered to buy back documents after they’ve been in possession of the enemy? But then this is the Trump era, so I can picture the conversation:

Trump: Vlad, we’d like to get those documents back. Can we make a deal?

Putin: Of course. What’s more, I make what you call pinky promise that we never peeked at them. How about a billion dollars?

Trump: Sure. Make it a $1.1 billion. Put the extra hundred million in my usual account, OK?

Putin: No troubles, Don. It’s true what they say: You are master of the art of the deal.

If you find your Windows 10 start menu and the taskbar right-clicks not working, this fixes the issue:
1-
Right click on start menu and click on Run. “For those who the start
menu does not respond with right click, right click on taskbar - click
on Task Manager - from File menu on the left upper corner select Run new
task”.
2- Write the command regedit and click Enter.
3- Go to path [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WpnUserService].
4- Double click on Start from the right side.
5- Change the value data to 4 then OK.
6- Reboot.

I unfortunately found this solution after a Windows reset and reinstall of all my programs didn’t fix the problem.

Always been convinced that the root of the anti-choice faction is about cheap labor. Evolution has provided us with great progress as a species, with the exception of sexual maturity. The pro-business right knows all to well that a sizable number of economically poor young people will have intercourse and become pregnant. These individuals and their offspring will likely have little or no advanced education, thus leading to a ready supply of cost-effective workers. At the same time, the situation gives the “moral” right the ability to rail against pre-marital sex and any social programs that would allow people to escape their cycle of poverty. These folks might abhor Darwin, but they certainly subscribe wholeheartedly to Social Darwinism. All over a blastocysts. In the 21st century, these folks truly are monsters to their fellow people.

Is it an actual thing with dues?

Do any women claim membership?

My wife is a member. The non-local group (in Cheyenne) has more women than men.

I joined in 1980 when it was a very fun organization. The Houston chapter especially. There were parties most every weekend, lunch bunches, happy hours, dinner groups, and many special interest groups on a great variety of interests and lovely people. It was an instant social life that was most welcome. Now? No need for it anymore and it’s dying a sad death.

I did mention Shetland to you. Another great series that you would like if you enjoyed Broadchurch.

Yes, there are women involved, and whole families. I was at a science fiction convention in Michigan years ago that coincided with a Mensa convention, so I met a lot of them. They do know how to party, I’ll give them that.

Just a hint for that one. I accidentally had on the caption thing when I started to watch it and it turned out to be a good thing. Some of the characters have intense Scottish accents - one of the charms of the series - and the captions made them easier to follow. For instance, one of them talked about when meh fayther deed. Caption: my father died.

As we speak I’m looking at a Thai recipe called ma ho.

It’s pineapple topped with a savory-spicy peanut and meat mix.

Maybe it’s the general disquiet talking, but theoretically it would make a good pizza combo….

Challenge accepted.
