“True Facts about Animals” is one of those holes of internet content I disappear into when sleepless or tipsy.

Speaking of which, don’ make a “Death in the Afternoon” in the afternoon and expect to be productive. Or do, and binge watch Penny Dreadful; it’s an absinthe kind of show.

What was it, a few weeks ago we were discussing Rep. Mast, and how Patrick Murphy, or some other Dem might regain that seat?
And, how the only path would likely be Mast royally screwing up. Seeing as he lost both his legs in Afghanistan, while serving as an EOD tech.

This wasn’t him screwing up. Hell, he may not even need to campaign now.

A Democratic win here is about as statistically probable as a virgin giving birth to a yeti drinking Crystal Pepsi…

Only people that have filed against Mast in the 18th are two Dem. women. One a former Navy lawyer, the other worked at the State Department under Obama (so she have “Hillary” hung around her neck from the start.).

More on the Charen story here.

“I’m disappointed about our side about being silent about serial harassers and abusers, including the one sitting in the White House,” Charen said, “because they happen to have an R beside their name.” This was an obvious reference to President Trump, who has been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct by more than a dozen women. He has denied all those allegations.

The hall erupted in booing and some shouting, a stark break from the cheering and applause that have marked the four-day conservative conclave. Charen is a National Review writer who worked in the White House of Ronald Reagan. But although Reagan was—and always is—repeatedly invoked during CPAC, this is now the party of Trump, and to question his conduct towards women amounted to an act of treason.

Seemingly unfazed by the crowd’s dismay, Charen continued, “You can’t endorse Roy Moore, credibly accused of child sexual abuse,” a reference to former chief Alabama judge Roy S. Moore, who lost a senatorial race in that state last December. He was defended by many prominent Republicans, among them President Trump, despite credible evidence of misconduct against young women, including teenagers.

“Not true,” someone in the audience shouted, as the panel’s moderator, publisher of conservative Regenry Books, Marji Ross, tried to steer the conversation towards safer topics: the excesses of the #MeToo movement, Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual assault.

Charen would not have it. She urged conservatives to “separate” themselves from “the men on our side who’ve behaved atrociously towards women.” Not quite done yet, she wondered why French ultranationalist Marion Marechal-Le Pen had been invited to speak at CPAC. “The Le Pen name is a disgrace,” she said of the family behind the National Front party in France.

Wow, going off on Trump and Le Pen. No wonder they threw her out.

So does the nut have a facile answer to the question of why so very few (none AFAICR off the top of my head) of these Parkland-style mass shootings are carried out by any of those “breakdown” folks from the “inner cities”? Despite their “socioeconomic, moral and societal” problems? I’m sure that there’s plenty of gun-related violence in *those* neighborhoods: but it tends to stay closer-to-home and be either gang-related or personal (the latter being a huge component of overall firearms deaths/murders among everybody - but blaming “welfare n******s” is the good old racist standby. he persists in denigrating the importance of stopping massacres since the sheer volume of handgun deaths is several times that in massacres. so he postulates that it’s not worth it to try to prevent massacres and individual handgun deaths are the “real” problem

I would love to see Carter Page get the next indictment.

I’ve said here before…I cannot figure out Carter Page and to me he remains the biggest enigma in the whole Russian Trump Saga.

And then sometimes I think he is so odd that he may be a creation. Created by an agency of some government. But I then cannot figure out whose government.

I’d be just as happy with Nunes being next.

Though as in many other instances, both would be better than just one…

The advantage of Page would be that it would “prove” that ALL the warrants were proper. At least to sane people.

I just heard Peter King (R-IRA) shout down the Schiff memo with the exact same Nunes talking points as before: it’s all because of a bogus DNC-funded dossier using a nobody (Carter Page) as an excuse to listen in on the Trump campaign. CPAC response to Nunes confirms that the new memo won’t move the needle for GOP congress people nor for his core supporters.

Oh so President Shithead decided to get testy with the President of Mexico…

washingtonpost.com

Tentative plans for Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to make his first visit to the White House to meet with President Trump were scuttled this week after a testy call between the two leaders ended in an impasse over Trump’s promised border wall, according to U.S. and Mexican officials.

Peña Nieto was eyeing an official trip to Washington this month or in early March, but called off the plan after Trump would not agree to publicly affirm Mexico’s position that it would not fund construction of a border wall that the Mexican people widely consider offensive, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a confidential conversation.

Speaking by phone on Feb. 20, Peña Nieto and Trump devoted a considerable portion of their roughly 50 minute conversation to the wall, and neither man would compromise his position.

One Mexican official said Trump “lost his temper.” But U.S. officials described him instead as being frustrated and exasperated, saying Trump believed it was unreasonable for Peña Nieto to expect him to back off his crowd-pleasing campaign promise of forcing Mexico to pay for the wall.

Time to re-post a comment I made in early October last year:

Maybe the States should use the Second Amendment to manage firearms and create official “State Militias” and require that, in order to own and use any firearms in the State, you must be a trained, card carrying, insurance covered, and dues paying member of said State Militia.

This would meet the 2nd Amendment requirement of “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,….”.

To get your official “State Militia” membership card you must attend so many hours of certified firearms training, complete an extensive background check and demonstrate competence in using and handling firearms. You must also have to show a secure place/location for the storage of the firearms you own. The dues you pay would be used to pay for the training and background checks.

If someone elects not to join the State Militia, then any firearm(s) they own would be subject to immediate confiscation when discovered, followed by fines and/or jail time and the weapons destroyed.

True. It’s just so astoundingly pathetic seeing it play out in real time.

Trump is sinking to new lows today. Now he’s editing out things from Fox he does’t like and posting his version, which is 100% false.

How long do we have to put up with this? Is there no remedy at all?

The Trump crime organization is up to no good in Panama.

Trump officials fight eviction from Panama hotel they manage

One of President Donald Trump’s family businesses is battling an effort to physically evict its team of executives from a luxury hotel in Panama where they manage operations, and police have been called to keep the peace, The Associated Press has learned. Witnesses told the AP they saw Trump’s executives carrying files to a room for shredding.

Representatives of the hotel owners’ association formally sought to fire Trump’s management team Thursday by hand-delivering termination notices to them at the Trump International Hotel and Tower, according to a Panamanian legal complaint filed by Orestes Fintiklis, who controls 202 of the property’s 369 hotel units. Trump’s managers retreated behind the glass walls of an office where they were seen carrying files to an area where the sounds of a shredding machine could be heard, according to two witnesses aligned with the owners. The legal complaint also accused Trump’s team of improperly destroying documents.

At some point we’re going to learn that one of Trump’s family businesses is running a child pornography/slave labor ring, and the GOP will just say “but Clinton!”.

That’s wingnut logic for you. Basically, it amounts to:

1) Somebody on Faux News says something completely unsubstantiated, unhinged, or both.
2) Somebody picks up on it and runs with it, spamming it all over social media.
3) Faux News picks up the story (again), this time with tweets and other “evidence” to support their case.
4) Now it’s right-wing gospel, and no matter how you try to argue, there’s “concrete proof” and they will not be dissuaded.

We had a bathroom bomb go off during first period when I was a sophomore in high school (69-70). I think one girl was injured more from the concussion than from shrapnel. AUSTIN, Tex., Aug. 22— An out-of-court settlement has been reached in a suit filed against George Christian, the White House press secretary under President Johnson, by the widow of a teacher who was shot by Mr. Christian’s son.

Judge Herman Jones of the State District Court ordered the settlement sealed. The terms were not disclosed. Wilbur Rod Grayson, 29 years old, was killed by John Christian, then 13, in a junior high school classroom May 18, 1978.

nytimes.com

It happened 1st period, I was in the classroom next door and heard the whole thing. We thought it was a play, the sounds of the shots sounded like books being slammed against the floor…we laughed……we laughed.

The teacher went out of the room and into where the shooting happened to see what was going on, I will never forget the look on her face…she locked us in our room.

She told us that it was not a play, we were 12 and 13 years old.

We stayed there for hours until we left via an adjacent door through the library.

They did not cancel school nor any classes, everything continued as normal.

We went about our regular schedule.

I first cried during lunch talking to my friends about what happened, the rest of the school day went on as all was normal

I walked home, as usual, my parents said that they heard on the news that something bad happened at the school today…..they heard that a teacher got shot and that all kids were safe.

I shoot those rifles and various other things at a friends land, he has 6 sections of land. There are 640 acres in a section. Here are 43,560 sq, ft, in an acre. Figure it out. Even with that much info and topo maps we know where the hell we are shooting.

Fuck right off with that.

People are freaking out because the .223 round was specifically tested out and demonstrated to fucking rip apart people when they destabilize in tissue, which is why the military actually favored them: the incapacitated more people than the big bullets that just plowed through.

For all of their clinging to minutiae of firearm components, these folks seem to aggressively ignorant about what bullets actually do. If they feel that flubbing “clip” versus “magazine” means a person can be discounted from the discussion, then I think not knowing what a bullet does inside the body should discount all of them.

Fucking man-children with toys. It’s fun! It’s a fucking tool. Dickwads waving around chainsaws and racing forklifts are not fucking heroes; nor are people who take the idea of firing a weapon frivilously.

One thing you see a lot is comparing .223 to other rifle calibers, so they can say “It’s not high powered!” But the real comparison is with handgun calibers, because they are the other possibility for mass shootings. Nobody’s going to run around a school with a BAR.

.223 may not do the damage a .30-06 does, but it also doesn’t kick like .30-06 does. It does WAY more damage than 9mm, and because the barrel is much longer, it’s both more accurate and easier to aim.

Once you start looking at it that way, you understand why the AR15 is so popular with mass shooters.
