Trump Attacks Parkland Police, Says He Would Have Stormed Into the School Himself “Even if I Didn’t Have a Weapon”

In another rambling, barely coherent statement on his latest really bad thoughts about school shootings, Trump as usual makes it all about himself, attacks the Broward County police over and over, and can’t help bragging that he would have stormed into the school himself even without a weapon.

Washington (CNN) — President Donald Trump said Monday he would have stormed into the Florida high school to stop the gunman perpetrating the nation’s latest mass shooting “even if I didn’t have a weapon” as he lambasted the inaction of a sheriff’s deputy assigned to the school.

“You don’t know until you test it, but I think, I really believe I’d run in there, even if I didn’t have a weapon, and I think most of the people in this room would have done that too,” Trump told a gathering of US governors at the White House.

Signaling more than one sheriff’s deputy was at fault, Trump said the Broward County Sheriff’s deputies who remained outside the school as the shooting unfolded “weren’t exactly Medal of Honor winners” and said “the way they performed was frankly disgusting.”

And to think he had plenty of opportunities to do this back in the 60’s by serving in Vietnam, save for a small matter of a few bone spurs.

For a guy who’s always claiming to be a straight talker who is easily understood, the GOP and his talking heads are spending all their time rephrasing/categorizing/limiting/reinterpreting every single thing he says so that it no longer reflects what he originally said.

In other words, everything has an expiration date, which is the nanosecond after he uttered it (mostly because he can’t remember what he said beyond that).

For someone who was in a situation like these kids were, they can smile and be thankful that they’re alive. That’s reason to smile, even as they reflect on the fact that their classmates were gunned down.

Why the hell were these companies ever NRA members discounts anyhow?

It’s common for big companies to grant discounts to large organizations. It’s a way to lock in some business with the hope that any discount will be covered by increased business from new customers brought by the organization.

What I would like to know is the politics of the FedEx board and how close they are to the NRA and the Republican party. They may be making a decision that could cost them and seem ready to live with it.

re: #114 HappyWarrior

Why the hell were these companies ever NRA members discounts anyhow?

Probably because they thought that offering a discount to members of the NRA (assuming the “millions” of members the organization claims) will bring in enough extra business to justify the discount off the “normal” rate.

Of course, all these companies that offer “affiliation discounts” aren’t losing money on the business: for, say, a national car-rental company,: there’s a “regular” rate of X dollars a day to rent a car, you ask for and get the NRA (or AAA, or AARP, or whatever) discount, and pay 90% of X. You can rest assured that .9X is still going to be profitable for the company, and be figured into the owning corporation’s business model. Probably down to the dollar.

Its probable that pissed-off gun nuts aren’t really going to have much of an impact one way or another with their threatened “boycotts” of NRA-shunning corporations: meanwhile, “virtue-signaling” by said corps might be considered good PR. Which is probably why Republican shits like Lt. Gov. Cagle seem to be getting so worked up:
the prospect that their huffy self-righteous threats on behalf of the gun-slaughter lobby will prove hollow and ineffective. We hope…..

FedEx does discount rates though based on the amount of business a company brings them. A company like Target pays a lesser rate than a mom & pop shop down the street.

So, what must be happening is they count NRA members as a group/company and base the discount on how much they as a group ship.

I worked in association management for 20 years, and those member discounts are meaningless. Every association, no matter what size, can negotiate them for many kinds of services. Almost no members ever use them and they have no real value, except to get that brand in front of members eyeballs during the year.

In return, associations like the NRA get to have a long list of benefits that don’t really mean shit but fool inattentive members into being impressed.

so i am gonna respond:

I’m a moderate.

Always have been. Moderate does not mean fence sitting or wishy washy. It means not being pigeonholed into that absurd conservative / liberal, left / right, r / d polarization. It means not holding extreme positions, which generally are black and white ones. It does not mean not holding strong or convicted opinions.

It also generally means facing each issue on its own merits and not having to see issue B a particular way because of how you see issue A.

Moderate mostly means non-ideologue

170

I watched a bit of Nicole Wallace on her MSNBC show and she had Michael Steele on talking about his radio interview with Matt Schlapp about CPAC and Steele being chosen to lead the party because he was Black and that was a mistake.

Both Steele and Wallace said they were friends of Schlapp and knew him for some time.

Steele said Schlapp did apologize but it was in a strange order. Schlapp started off with the apology and then proceeded to rip on him.

I didn’t see either Nicole or Michael say anything about dropping Schlapp as a friend. What does that tell you?

For one, you need better friends.

WTF?
School to close for church ceremony featuring AR-15 rifles

NEWFOUNDLAND, Pa. — A Pennsylvania school district says it’s canceling classes at an elementary school on Wednesday because a church down the street is hosting a ceremony featuring AR-15 rifles.

World Peace and Unification Sanctuary in Newfoundland is encouraging couples to bring their AR-15 rifles to a commitment ceremony.

The church believes the AR-15 symbolizes the “rod of iron” in the biblical book of Revelation.

The ceremony, to be held about a half-mile from Wallenpaupack South Elementary School, is expected to draw hundreds of couples.

On Friday, the superintendent of the Wallenpaupack Area School District wrote in a letter to parents that while “there is no direct threat to our school or community,” given concerns about parking, traffic and the “nature of the event,” students will be bused to schools about 15 miles (24 kilometers) away.

We’re doing the HS kids who are protesting gun availability and violence a disservice by calling them “kids”. They are demonstrating intelligence, fortitude, and knowledge far beyond their age as measured in years.

We should be identifying them as “young adults”.

I try to use students. It covers the ages from 8 to 24. And they are so well studied.

sadly, there is no way to stop any specific mass shooting
there are lots of things that can reduce or prevent many of them

Well, for one thing, Congress could designate a dedicated emergency alert system, maybe a huge orange spotlight, the Trump Signal, to sweep the skies over Mar-a-Lago, so that the president can rush to any scene within the fuel range of Marine One and dash in and kill the shooter or shooters single- and bare-handed.

Remember these clowns?

Christopher Reed, 28, of Lancaster, is one of the volunteers who have been guarding the Lancaster recruiting site following the shooting and killing of five service members at an unguarded recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, last week.

The volunteers were a group of citizens who are guarding recruiting centers across the country. Their goal is to not stop guarding the recruiting centers until members of the military at recruiting centers were able to arm themselves for protection.

According to a Lancaster police report, the shooting occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 12:01 p.m. outside the recruiting office, 1534 River Valley Circle.

“I was out here and was talking to a guy who wanted to look at my AR-15,” said Reed in an interview with the Eagle-Gazette. “I was trying to clear the weapon and hand it over to him when it went off. I thought it was empty and must have missed it.”

Exactly that happened in Lubbock a few weeks ago. An ammosexual was parading around nearby streets masturbating with his AR-15 to assert his right to do so. Several people saw him and called the school and the cops. The school was locked down and the cops started a house to house search for the gunman, They found him a few blocks away. He was questioned and let go, since he wasn’t breaking any laws. He was white.

If you add up all the public, private, and charter k-12 schools in the US and hypothetically had a mass shooting at different school every day, it would take 775 years to get to all of them (assuming 180 school days per year).

I don’t know, man. In New York my girlfriend and I were friends with a couple who had just bought a big old farm in Massachusetts. We had them over for Sunday brunch. I knew Alice was a vegetarian so I made simple bean-and-pepper tacos, with bloody marys to drink. Alice gave her drink a suspicious look.

ALICE: Does this have Worcestershire sauce in it?

ME: It’s a bloody mary. All bloody marys have Worcestershire sauce in them.

ALICE: I can’t drink this.

ME: Um … why?

ALICE: One of the ingredients in Worcestershire sauce is anchovies.

It was on this same occasion that she implored her husband, for what I gathered wasn’t the first time, to buy them a deer rifle. Not to shoot deer, of course, but to shoot deer hunters who strayed onto their new property.

“Yeah, that’s entirely par for the course and exactly what someone angling for a A+ rating from the NRA would do.”

Cagle is running for governor here and wants that NRA money. He knows the NRA will spend millions running pro-Cagle ads. The GA State Senate just voted to cut off Delta’s tax credits because Delta decided to stop giving NRA members discounts. Things here in GA are really f*cked up, and the sad thing is that millions will vote for Cagle while knowing that he doesn’t give a sh*t if their kids are gunned down in their schools. A kid was arrested here today because he made a threat to his school on social media. Law enforcement searched his home and found several guns. Call me crazy, but I simply don’t understand any parent permitting his/her kid to have such easy access to guns. If the kid likes to hunt with dad, I can understand that. What I don’t understand is dad not securing the gun after the pair returns from the hunting trip.

Those governors are just making things worse on themselves by delaying the inevitable. Republicans usually do much better in special elections for the same reason they generally do better in midterms, because of poor turnout. This year is shaping up differently of course, but I think they’re hurting their overall chances by playing so defensive and having fewer incumbents in office running for re-election in November.

Yeah, well the oafkeepers are having a webinar, so there:

On Monday evening, the Oath Keepers will be holding a webinar on this type of vigilante protection, titled “The Florida School Shooting and How to Counter Renewed Efforts to Disarm Us.” According to the event description, members will be urged to “standby for a formal call to action for all Oath Keepers across the nation to do the same” as Cowan in Indiana.

Idaho allows people who are legally blind to get guns.

How does that make sense when the NRA’s own rules of safety require that the owner be able to recognize the target and make sure the field is clear behind the target.

Oh, right - because the NRA doesn’t care about rules of safety. It’s only interested in pushing more gun sales.

“Tell me if I’m wrong.”

No, you’re not wrong. The racism and bigotry here is what I call the “soft” kind, meaning that real acceptance of others who differ from the majority is covered in public situations with a veneer of “southern hospitality.” Behind the scenes, it’s pure, 100% racism and bigotry writ large. These are the kinds of persons who will smile at you in public, giving the impression that they respect you and wouldn’t disparage in any way. It’s when they go into the voting booth and the results of elections are published that you discover they’re full of sh*t, and that they care nothing about equality or Christianity but a whole lot about preserving the status quo of white supremacy.
