Ari Melber did an interesting piece toward the end of his show. It was about how Russia doesn’t care who knows and they might have wanted to be caught.
The reasoning: it shows Putin’s power and how he can influence the world’s political systems.
He wants to prove how vulnerable a democracy is because it is based on trust instead of a strong smart man like Putin. If he knows these systems so well, think how great a leader he is.
It was pretty thought provoking and a slant I had never considered. It goes to your worry about Mueller. He may be doing exactly what Putin wants.

ESPN - Papa John’s, NFL make ‘mutual decision’ to end sponsorship deal

Papa John’s is no longer the official pizza of the NFL.
CEO Steve Ritchie said on the company’s earnings conference call that the league and the company mutually decided it was in their best interests for Papa John’s, which became the official pizza of the league in 2010, to give up the designation.
The brand is the first NFL sponsor to leave in the midst of its deal. The company said on the call that there was no additional cost for undoing the deal.
“The NFL and Papa John’s have made a mutual decision to shift from their official league sponsorship to a focus on partnerships with 22 local NFL teams, presence in broadcast and digital media, and key personalities in the sport,” the league and company said in a joint statement.

It was nearly four months ago that Papa John’s founder John Schnatter, then also the CEO, said players who staged protests during the national anthem hurt business. The company pulled the NFL shield off its commercials during game broadcasts and took the shield off its pizza boxes.
“We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this,” Schnatter said at the time.
Twelve days later, after the company’s stock had dropped 12 percent, Schnatter apologized for his comments.
Schnatter, who was the face of the brand, was later replaced as CEO on Jan. 1. The company’s chief financial officer, Lance Tucker, will leave after this week to become CFO at Jack in the Box.

I remember when this happened. When the bill was being written, right-wingers were all for it because they were 100% sure undocumented immigrants were to blame for “taking their jobs [and everything else] from them.” After Deal signed the bill into law, migrant workers fled the state, crops began to rot in the fields, and Deal got the “great” idea to hire probationers to replace the migrant workers, and guess what happened? Many of the probationers who decided to take the jobs quit before noon on the first day on the job or quit before the end of the first week on the job because the work was just too hard. Since this happened, I haven’t heard much from the anti-immigration tools. This was one time that they got what they asked for and paid dearly for it.

Honestly, we used to get it a lot back in fish country before I moved out, and I would call it “okay”. Domino’s and Pizza Hut both reinvented their crust options and flavors and I find them to be tastier than Papa John’s, which is still essentially a piece of cardboard with some decent cheese and toppings.

“Closer Look” is posted on YouTube *before* airtime, at least where I’m at.
So, imagine this. You are teaching a third grade class and hear BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG (etc.) coming from down the hall. The local school district has provided you with a 9 mm pistol and minimal training, compared to any LEO.
You have two choices. You can lock the door, and put a chair underneath the doorknob and get you 30 students into a closet and hide. If the shooter gets into your room, you can take a last gasp shot at him (it’s always a him) and he will probably kill you and then the kids, but at least you tried. Or, he will simply walk past the barricaded door and look for a softer target, and your gun will not have cleared leather.
Or, you can bravely open the door and get into a shooting match with a gunman with a rifle while you have a pistol. Which you are most likely going to lose. You haven’t locked the door, it’s open behind you. You haven’t put the chair under the door, and you haven’t shoved your kids into a closet. They are, in fact, easy targets now that you are incapacitated or dead.
Gee? Which would I choose?
The point, of course, being that even arming teachers will not make them do something that would, odds on, be more likely to result in their kids being killed.

FedEx claims they do the same thing, but, according to the memo, they offer two or three day shipping to certain groups. It makes shipping cheaper, which means they’re getting more shipping traffic.

He made a note of my complaint and wrote me out a citation for operating a vehicle without a license plate.

I guess the days that the Feds were required to buy their furniture from UNICOR are over. UNICOR is the brand name for products produced by inmates in the Federal prison system.
They made battleship gray or cream colored desks, chairs, tables, filing cabinets, wall dividers, etc. This “furniture” was some of the toughest (and ugly) stuff ever made. Practically in-destructible. Lasted for years. I swear some of the furniture I had was brought out to the west with the Custer campaign.

The gun shop owner in my town uses the US Postal Service’s Registered Mail service.
When we had the post office fight here to keep our post office and the USPS claimed no one really used the office much, the gun shop owner dumped thousands of dollars in Registered Mail receipts on the desk in front of the person from the USPS.
According to him, the law requires shipping guns and certain hardware (with rare exceptions) by Registered Mail, not UPS or FedEx.

I left upgrade training at Castle AFB and went to K. I. Siberia (oops, Sawyer) AFB in the spring of ‘80. In ‘81 Reagan pushed through a massive increase in military spending. The problem was, it had to be spent by October 31, 1981, and there were not enough weapons systems in the pipeline to come anywhere near to absorbing the cost.
It was a puzzlement! What to do? The money had to be spent or it would look really bad.
So, we got new alert trucks. Everything on base was painted. Every piece of furniture was replaced (even if it was brand new). Typewriters. Fencing. New guns for the guards. New guns for the air crews (.38’s which may have had 30 rounds put through them were tossed). New arctic gear. New tires and spares for the planes. New engine starters and heat huffers for the planes. New Oshkosh snow blowers for the runway. Somehow we spent enough useless dollars to meet our allotment.

I guess the days that the Feds were required to buy their furniture from UNICOR are over. UNICOR is the brand name for products produced by inmates in the Federal prison system.
They made battleship gray or cream colored desks, chairs, tables, filing cabinets, wall dividers, etc. This “furniture” was some of the toughest (and ugly) stuff ever made. My agency, like all other Fed agencies, had to spend or obligate all their funds by the end of the Fiscal Year. I always maintained a wish list of extra items my staff and I could use if there were any extra funds. The biggest item I purchased was a 60” color plotter for producing maps. That thing wound up being used almost daily so it was a good investment.
Being a Fed it was always difficult to do any meaning-full budgeting and planning. First of all, the continuing resolution process got you into the middle of the FY before you got your final budget. Then you wound up with 6 months to complete all your targets.

We chased down a corrupt energy deal while I was there, teaming up with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, which earned me a threatening phone call from the boss of the company involved. I also covered a train wreck in Hanna (?) and a murder trial, and ventured on to the Wind River Res, where few reporters had previously visited.

Chuck Johnson — a far-right troll and occasional adviser to Trump’s administration who is famous for publishing the home addresses of reporters whose work he doesn’t like, suggesting an Amtrak crash was caused by the engineer’s sexuality, questioning how many Jewish people were killed in the Holocaust, and propagating a claim he pooped on the floor at his college — once made an audition tape for “Survivor.” We have obtained that tape, which you can watch above.

Kidding aside, @TheRickWilson makes an important point: the fact that Kelly finally busted Kushner doesn’t mean what Kushner - who needs cash - knows isn’t still dangerous: ” What he knows after a year in this position makes him the juiciest intelligence target in the world.”
