Which is actually a better argument than cars, I think. It directly points out that:
1. There are more rights than are just listed in the Bill of Rights or they wouldn’t have needed an amendment to end it.
2. That even though we have made alcohol legal, we have put restrictions on it for reasons having to do with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of the general population.
People are like “You can’t ban guns! It’s in the constitution!” as if we didn’t once in our nation’s history randomly decide that there would be no more alcohol allowed

Oh, and the breakfast tacos in Austin are Killer Bee. We don’t really have taco trucks, they’re mostly repurposed Airstream and bespoke trailers.

Indeed. That is one of my favorite things to do, to spend a day road tripping to see wildflowers. Last year a friend and I went with our boys - had lunch at a wonderful tapas place in Brenham that allowed dogs. (Since we had never taken the boys to a restaurant before we decided it was best to try it out of town first just in case =O.) Came back by a different route to see more bluebonnets, paintbrush, fields of color. Very fun day.
I think I may do that again this year. :)

One of the best concerts I ever attended was Waylon at a not very large joint called the Stumble Inn, in Tucson Arizona, in the mid-1970’s. Jessie Colter was the opening act, and a grand old time was had by all (and we’re still talking about it all these years later).

German immigrants brought beer with them, it quickly became popular, and the rapid spread of brewery associated saloons of that era were quickly demonized by many as a public blight and organizing point for subversive political movements. That allowed the temperance crusaders to take a ready made external enemy and associate it with the public face of drunkenness.
Looks like Roy Moore is facing financial bankruptcy - I think that’s maniacally appropriate, as it’ll match his moral bankruptcy quite nicely. In any event, he’s begging for money, blaming “the political Left”, which, according to Moore, “is filled with men and women whose sole aim in life is to overthrow our God-ordained rights which are guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution”.

After reading about his latest fundraising appeal, I was glad to find out he hasn’t come anywhere close to the $250,000 he says he needs to defend himself against Leigh Corfman’s lawsuit. He seems to have spent every year since he became a judge and politician begging for money from others. Grifting has benefited him well throughout the years, and I suppose he sees no reason to stop now. He might still have his license to practice law in Alabama and could defend himself since he is a former prosecutor and has trial experience. You were kind in offering him thoughts and prayers. If I could talk to him face-to-face, I’d say things that would set his entire body on fire.

Located directly off Intersate-80 in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming stands the largest Marian Statue in the United States.
The sculpture is 30 feet (5 stories) high, and weighs 180 tons. Erected in 1998, by Ted and Marjorie Trefren this Shrine greets Interstate travelers everyday in any kind of weather.
Robert Fida was commissioned to design and sculpt Our Lady of Peace Shrine.

I do not believe we can get anything past them that is stricter than California currently is. I had to pull a part from the action to make it into a single action revolver and mail the part in a separate envelope. She could then, fully legally, replace the part and have a fully functional double action revolver again. Pure stupidity.

Fortunately, the market took a tumble Friday, so by fucking up my order he probably saved me a couple hundred dollars, but I would not really want to be him having to explain to the floor boss Monday how he managed to fuck this up, especially considering he read my order back to me so there was no question I was buying share amounts and not dollars.

IIRC, after WWII, there was a serious movement by government (exacerbated by the Republicans’ taking control of Congress after the 1946 elections) to try to return to the traditional American “post-war” practices: i.e. demobilize, demilitarize and return to a more-or-less isolationist foreign policy. Pay off those millions of GIs with “The Thanks of Their Country”, and send them back into the civilian economy - which, since so much else of the world really was a “smoldering wreck” - would be booming.*
The main thing that changed that (at least IMH**O) was the fact that the only other major Power to come out of the war in an “improved”*** geopolitical position was the Soviet Union: seen (and not unjustifiably) as an aggressive, expansionist power; and one basically opposed to the US in most everything. The isolationists may not have cared, but the prospect of even greater Soviet influence was scary enough to convince the Truman Admin to shuck the wartime marriage-of-convenience with Stalin, and take a more aggressive role in international “leadership”. Which turned out, in the short term anyway, to be quite profitable besides.

That’s another thing. I mentioned the other day that here in NW PA most of the old mills are torn down or are something totally different now. Same with rail tracks. We still have some, but not half as many as we used to.
