The MSM should be held accountable for the fact that many voters who are not into politics with the same interest as we are and who are focused on raising a family and paying the mortgage were not really aware of how terrible he actually was. If you listened to only a few of his speeches, he really connected with those who are the losers in the modern economy. People want the middle class lives that our parents had — where a working class family had a comfortable life — and company-provided benefits. They didn’t hear Trump’s comments that Americans were too highly paid — because the media and the Democrats failed to tell them.

What Trump is was not a secret. It was blatantly obvious to anyone and everyone who watched. While the NYT and CNN are desperately trying to give Trump voters excuses, they will simply embrace the next fascist who comes along unless they are held accountable for their actions and choices. If an acquaintance willingly and maliciously does something that he knows will hurt me or my loved ones, and then wants to make peace and be invited back into my circle, I’ll take him back, but there has to be apology and restitution. If he wants me to take him back while still insisting that his idea was right but the optics or something was wrong, then fuck that.
The counterargument to that is the same one David Brooks and his ilk make - that you have to respect and coddle redstaters and Trumpers so they don’t feel attacked, so their feelings aren’t hurt, otherwise they’ll stubbornly insist on doing more evil. Well, that’s gotten us exactly where we are today with regards to racism, fascism, guns, and everything else. No more. It’s not okay to blame everyone else for their malice. It’s not okay to rely on your white privilege to be excused for every terrible choice you make. It’s not okay to vote Trump and then declare that it was just a passing fad.
We don’t need them to win. That’s the same fallacy that leads us to argue that they need to be coddled and respected. And the band hubbed out of the very heart of Trump country, with a drummer who voted for Whatsisface. Gun guy, really conservative, but extremely upset with how Trump is mishandling immigration for some reason. Even admitted he might not vote for him again.

The issue isn’t the NYT and CNN excusing them today, it’s the fact that during the campaign the NYT, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, Washington Post etc provided billions of dollars of free coverage to Trump and really failed to cover his flaws; they focused on Hillary’s e-mails. Most people were not watching that much — or reading that much — they get a few minues each day on Morning Joke or one of the other morning shows. Not so much coverage of Trump’s real history but instead fluff piece profiles of the candidates.

I am not a networking expert but my understanding is the data free streaming occurs when the relevant data can be correctly processed and identified through AT&Ts network.
Apparently, and I do not know the technical explanation for this, the data has to be running through a device directly connected to the mobile network for the whole thing to bill, but for some reason devices connected using the hotspot feature on your phone or tablet are excluded.
Either there is some kind of network limitation there or AT&T is arbitrarily restricting the feature. The exclusion of the Fire Stick, Apple TV, Roku, etc. has always been there, deep in the fine print but, as I said earlier it’s seldom covered properly by AT&T reps when selling the service to customers.

There was a lot less coverage of Trump’s flaws than he deserved, that is true. But that was mostly because they presented her emails with at least equal time, giving the impression that these were somehow equal to his flaws. Any fair and equitable journalism would have resulted in 24/7 coverage of Trump atrocities, and their editorial boards would not have it.
But I don’t think it’s plausible or reasonable for anyone to say, ‘well, I thought Trump was a decent guy, just unconventional’, even with the endless media fluffing he got. If he’d been held up as some sort of paragon, or even someone normal, and people were fooled, then I can buy that. I don’t believe and can’t believe people looked at a man making fun of the disabled and bragging about his penis size on national television and thought that was somehow within the bounds of normal. No, if you lived in the United States, and after that 18 months of campaigning and media coverage you thought Donald fucking Trump was somehow an appropriate president, you weren’t fooled or hoodwinked. You just wanted to express your contempt and anger.

And I do not understand how I can watch the Directv Now app on a tablet through my Wifi connection, but I need to pay for more internet data on a FireTV device that gets the very same feed through the damn Wifi.
And, if I understand correctly. A Chromecast device would sinc up to my table, so I could get one of those and then sync my table to the TV to achieve the same damn thing. I don’t get it. So much makes no sense.
And it apparently makes no sense to the ATT people as they passed me from tech to tech on the phone. Then they got me a manager on the phone who gave me a number to Directv people who couldn’t help me with Directv Now questions and info as to how it works on my internet data plan.
Then I went to Directv Now online chat and was passed around three times between cell people and internet people that no one seemed to understand my questions and how it all worked.
The final guy I talked to say yes, it nicks your data usage and there is nothing he could do about it except charge me another $30 for unlimited internet.
I have more decisions to make and stuff to research…like can I sync my tablet to the FireTV device or do I try a Chromecast to do it.

As of midnight on the morning of March 1, the credit card processing company we use upgraded their systems software and now our system is incompatible with theirs. I’m not a systems tech so can’t sufficiently explain all the details, but long story short, after lots of recompiling and rebuilding, John has been unable to resolve the incompatibility issues without impacting the rest of our system and doesn’t want to risk bringing down our entire system

And - whatever one might think of the principle of the thing - demanding any sort of “contrition” from the electorate (outside of what votes they cast in the secrecy of the ballot-box) is probably a sure loser. I have a feeling enough Trump/Republican voters from the last election are suffering from “buyer’s remorse” to shift to a creditable Democrat in the next one. Doing anything - ANYTHING - to turn them off is likely to prove political suicide. And if means swallowing one’s snark and (however grudgingly) embracing the old “let’s look forward, not back” pitch (at least as far as a national strategy), so be it: we can mock the Trumpista fools later (post-impeachment?)….

The crew do a pretty big-time Florida-based Beatles tribute, and they’ve got quite a collection of Fab gear, if you will. I spent Saturday afternoon playing about half of them and really took a liking to the 345, and they slipped it into the trailer and sprung it on me at the venue.
The Twin was just a beast. The Fly Rig let me push the front end enough to get the growl without decapitating the audience.
And yes, a Varitone. The 345 is stereo. All the jangle you could ever ask for.

Well, when both these factors go against you, what can you do?
In theory, perhaps: in (political) reality, probably a pretty bad strategy.
The upcoming elections are a midterm: 435 local elections and 34 statewide ones: while approval/disapproval of the Administration is an unavoidable background to all of them, the last thing the Democrats need, as the default Opposition, is to turn off ANY potential voters. And - whatever one might think of the principle of the thing - demanding any sort of “contrition” from the electorate (outside of what votes they cast in the secrecy of the ballot-box) is probably a sure loser. I have a feeling enough Trump/Republican voters from the last election are suffering from “buyer’s remorse” to shift to a creditable Democrat in the next one. Doing anything - ANYTHING - to turn them off is likely to prove political suicide. And if means swallowing one’s snark and (however grudgingly) embracing the old “let’s look forward, not back” pitch (at least as far as a national strategy), so be it: we can mock the Trumpista fools later (post-impeachment?)….
But where does that leave us in 2 years when we’ve done nothing to address the wrong-headed thinking that gave us Trump? We gave these folks a pass after 2000, thinking that Gore was just a poor candidate and “buyers remorse” would win us 2004. But instead Dubya did just well enough that all those folks mumbling about how voting for him in 2000 was a bad idea were “willing to give him another chance” because they feared what would happen if went with the “surrender party.” In 2 years, Trump may be doing well enough in the polls that these folks right now expressing regret might just shrug their shoulders and vote for him again.

There were ATT reps working my neighborhood a couple days after I signed up for the Directv Now app. They gave me a phone number to ATT’s Retention of Customers Department. I asked them who do you call if you really have issues. I am glad I asked, as I had a feeling I would be needing it.
I will be calling them tomorrow and sending them PDFs of the online chats to let them know how screwed up a system they have for customer service. It will read like a Marx Brothers routine.

And I also don’t believe that not embracing them will be political suicide. As I noted up above, if what’s driving this “buyers remorse” is public perception of Trump, then anything that might shift that into the positive territory for him could be the game-changer in 2020. As we’ve seen over the past year, he doesn’t need much for his poll numbers to edge upward, just a period of no negative news will do that. Or negative news for the DNC that takes the public’s attention away from him long enough for the public to forget why they don’t like him. Betting on people having a negative perception of him, of his own bad news killing his chances, is how we got a second Dubya term.

Normally I’d agree with you, but after reading the article about Richard Ojeda I linked to in my #116, I’m thinking there’s an opening after all, under some circumstances in some states. The Sanders-to-trump supporters who now regret that vote are indeed worth pursuing in the states where they’re the only ones who could make the difference between a win and a loss.

The only way to ‘win back’ the Trump supporters in the WWC is by being more racist than the GOP, which would mean abandoning everyone else in favor of white people.
Again, there are some circumstances where that might not be true. To put it in a simplistic yet still accurate manner, consider the following:
1) trump voters who were motivated 60% by racism/bigotry, 40% by “economic anxiety”
2) Sanders-to-trump voters motivated by the flip side, 60% economic anxiety, 40% racism (or indifference to racism)
The second group is indeed winnable with a populist message tailored to what they care about (e.g. the Pennsylvania trump voter who said she’s “going back to her Democrats” because she realizes the GOPers will cut social security to pay for the tax cut. That right there is a perfect campaign ad for the Dems to run in districts filled with similar likely voters). And again, you don’t have to have anything in the least bit racist or pandering to racism in that message.

I know. And nor does it have the strictest gun laws in the country.
Thing is, I get it, we hate thinking the worst of those people we know or otherwise have positive impressions of being a Trump voter. We wanna entertain the idea that these folks all had “good intentions,” that their circumstances or those of people they themselves know made them ripe for a pied-piper like Trump to come along. But if all you do is pat them on the head and tell them that it’s okay, we don’t hold it against them, just so long as they vote against Trump next time…what has really changed? They didn’t come around to our thinking, they didn’t acknowledge that their “good intentions” were wrong, they just got a pass and will happily follow along the next piper who shows up.
If all you do when your child makes a mistake is pat them on the head and tell them that they “meant well,” then they’re likely going to keep making that mistake. Eventually it won’t become a mistake…it’ll become a habit, and those are far harder to break.

Much like the CFPB and the EPA, the Trump objective is the opposite of their statutory mission.
Hell, in 2008, we had folks who swore up and down that Dubya was the worst president ever and they’d never make that mistake again…and then voted for Trump 8 years later. Why? Because Dubya’s sins were in the past and people had forgotten why his was such a train wreck of a presidency. I fear winter is coming to an end and we’re still short of rain. I was hoping this would be a wet year, but even though in my part of the county it has rained more than the previous several years, it’s been too little.
This has been a relatively warm winter, too. Only the past couple of weeks has the temp been down to what we’d consider normal, and now we’re going to warm up for the rest of the week.
Sure, it saves (a lot) on my heating bill, but for the sake of the loquats I’d prefer the rain storms.

I guess I was lucky. My dad sent me to a real driving school. Bob Bondurant I think. It was an advanced course, how to drive out of emergencies like debris on the freeway at speed. Or a skid, black ice etc. Maybe he slept better when I went out in the rain. Grandpa was a hunter, so before I got a .22 bolt action gun I had to pass an NRA hunter safety course. Parents had a small plane on a “lease back” deal with a school. So I took the FAA test and flew as a student when I could. All of these things are not for the irresponsible. The sum of all that was I learned that education and training made fun, dangerous if abused activity accessible. Safe enough.
But am I the only guy that hates back up cameras because they make you look the wrong way to back up?
