Trump Now Using Golf Tee Markers With the Presidential Seal at His Courses (Which Is Illegal)

Politics • Views: 45,051

Donald Trump continues debasing the office of the presidency by putting the presidential seal on his golf clubs’ tee markers.

In recent weeks, the Trump Organization has ordered the manufacture of new tee markers for golf courses that are emblazoned with the seal of the President of the United States. Under federal law, the seal’s use is permitted only for official government business. Misuse can be a crime.

Past administrations have policed usage vigilantly. In 2005 the Bush administration ordered the satirical news website The Onion to remove a replica of the seal. Grant M. Dixton, associate White House counsel, wrote in a letter to The Onion that the seal “is not to be used in connection with commercial ventures or products in any way that suggests presidential support or endorsement.”

This isn’t the worst thing he’s done, of course. But it’s especially galling after all the times this narcissistic hypocrite bashed President Obama for playing golf.

It is this sort of shit that convinces me we are destined to have a civil war. These scumbags will do anything to retain power, anything. They have no love for America or children or our Constitution. They do not believe that all Americans are equal under the law, they subvert human rights, many of them are literally Confederates, Nazis, and Russia puppets. The most anti American bunch we’ve confronted since the last Civil War.

The Confederates claimed they were upholding the true meaning of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution as well. Literally the first line from the South Carolina Articles of Secession:

The people of the State of South Carolina, in Convention assembled, on the 26th day of April, A.D., 1852, declared that the frequent violations of the Constitution of the United States, by the Federal Government, and its encroachments upon the reserved rights of the States, fully justified this State in then withdrawing from the Federal Union; but in deference to the opinions and wishes of the other slaveholding States, she forbore at that time to exercise this right. Since that time, these encroachments have continued to increase, and further forbearance ceases to be a virtue.

We’re divided but if it ultimately means the end, I don’t think it will be via shooting war. For one, the Feds have all the fire power. And I don’t see three percenters storming the local Air Force Base to get B-2 bombers being very successful. Same goes for when the cannons on Abrams tanks are pointed at them.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Investigators have determined that an old wooden wreck found on the Alabama Gulf Coast isn’t the last slave ship to land in the United States, the Alabama Historical Commission said Monday.

A statement released by the state agency said the ship remains found north of Mobile are too large and new to be those of the Clotilda, which was burned nearly 160 years ago after delivering captives from what’s now the west African nation of Benin to Mobile in 1860.

snip

State and federal experts who examined the wreck recently said the ship in the mud was about 160 feet (50 meters) long, while the Clotilda was 86 feet (25 meters) long. Also, the wreck had three masts, while the Clotilda had two.

The wreck in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta had what appeared to be marks indicating fire damage, but the review showed those marks actually were caused by wood-eating marine organisms, the statement said.

Also, the construction methods used on the wreck didn’t become common until after the Clotilda was built, and the wreck didn’t appear to include oak, which was used on the slave ship.

I’m just figuring that he really wants the investigation to end, and being as short sighted as he is, and being prone to short cuts, I could see him saying, “fuck ‘em, I’m pardoning everybody so they can’t touch us.” I mean, he already did it with Arpaio, so why not do it with his inner circle? So my only guess is that Ryan and McConnell told him he has to ride this investigation out and if he tries to pardon everyone to get out from under it, he’ll be impeached and removed.

I read that more as dicta than governing law. And especially since pardons can be made unconditional, there isn’t necessarily an implication of guilt. But whether that issue would ever actually be litigated is beside the point, I suppose.

You should have the smith inspect the barrel for quality and thickness as well. A proof test is also advisable. I’ve stayed away from those simply because there is very little in the way of standards since they are not designed to be fired. Of course they do: because they think that they will basically be allowed to get away with it. And they’re probably not wrong.

If it were just a matter of “law”, there wouldn’t be much of an issue, but unfortunately, since political figures are involved, investigations like Robert Mueller’s can all-too-easily be spun as mere “matters of politics”: and officials’ improprieties (and never mind actual crimes) can be waved away as “hardball politics” or “partisan sniping”. And of course, relying on political actors (especially today’s GOP) to effectively police themselves - whatever Branch of government - is a fool’s game.

Mueller has stuff on Trump, from before the election. He has stuff from years before he even entered the race because following the money means following it back to its source.

re: #82 goddamnedfrank

Exactly. Wilson tried to force a pardon on Burdick in order to force him to testify in a leak probe. Burdick fought for the right not to take it and won.

Lastly, the right not to take the pardon in Burdick was rooted, though not explicitly stated in these terms, in the Article III individual right to a jury trial, and the attached Fifth Amendment right to protest one’s innocence until found guilty through such due process. The pardon sought to bypass those constitutional protections of a person’s personal integrity and reputation.

Indeed, the grace of a pardon, though good its intention, may be only in pretense or seeming; in pretense, as having purpose not moving from the individual to whom it is offered; in seeming, as involving consequences of even greater disgrace than those from which it purports to relieve. Circumstances may be made to bring innocence under the penalties of the law. If so brought, escape by confession of guilt implied in the acceptance of a pardon may be rejected, preferring to be the victim of the law rather than its acknowledged transgressor, preferring death even to such certain infamy. This, at least theoretically, is a right, and a right is often best tested in its extreme.

It just occurred to me. Wasn’t the NBC release of the news last night about Mueller asking for these emails stated as being ONE witness and his emails to the list of people?

Here is the opening paragraph of the NBC story from last night:

WASHINGTON — The grand jury investigating alleged collusion between Russia and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has sent a witness a subpoena seeking all documents involving the president and a host of his closest advisers, according to a copy of the subpoena reviewed by NBC News.

Link to the article if anyone missed it.

NBC - Special counsel wants documents on Trump, numerous campaign associates

You know who’s name wasn’t on the list?

Sam Nunberg.

As long as Rosenstein is still there and keeps playing it straight, he’s got the Federal criminal justice system. If the GJ indicts for obstruction, and he’s convicted and sentenced, only a pardon prevents him serving the time.

That’s mostly it. I was just wondering if, for grins, Sam tore up the summons on the courthouse steps, what Mueller could do to make him go inside or go to jail. It’s been answered. Like I said, I think he’s acting this way because they’ve taken Jackson’s “Let them enforce it” to heart.

I thought there were two rulings: That they were an implication of guilt, and that you didn’t have to accept them for that reason.

My reading of it is simply that you have a right to refuse a pardon for any reason. Pardons can be conditional or unconditional, so it can be conditional on an admission of guilt, but it isn’t required.

156
darthstar  Mar 5, 2018 • 12:51:30pm

The pardon in Burdick was unconditional.

And the reason I don’t see the bit about acceptance being an admission of guilt as mere dicta is that the entire reasoning behind the decision hinges on this idea. That in forcing a pardon on someone the President would be bypassing important protections that the Constitution gives them to fight for their own reputation in Court and be judged by a jury of their peers.

The pardon in Burdick was unconditional.

Which is why I read the acceptance of guilt part as dicta. I think it can be interpreted either way, I just tend to lean towards dicta since it wasn’t a direct issue in the case.

I’d be curious if there was a case where someone accepted an unconditional pardon and was later sued and found liable based in part on the acceptance of the pardon.

I once ignored a third-party federal subpoena in a civil case with no repercussions. That’s because the cheap-ass Church of Scientology expected me to show up without paying the required witness fee. After checking, this essentially rendered the subpoena invalid. So I said nothing (so as not to give them the opportunity to cure their mistake) and didn’t show for the deposition. Nothing happened.

Cut to Huckabee trying to clean up after Nunberg admitting that Trump knew about the meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower that is the very heart of a conspiracy (NOT “collusion” - there obviously is no such criminal charge) conviction.

Nunberg’s already burned that bridge with the apparent claim that his lawyer was going to dump him.

Listening to that song, the bassist (Misa) is superb and their drummer, Akane Hirose, is brilliant.

I’m pretty impressed with the vids you’ve posted. From what I can tell, they’re actually playing their own stuff and they know how to lean into it.

I was leery after seeing Babymetal, but these young women seem like the real deal. Any live stuff out there?

That’s an entirely different universe of actions than what we’re seeing here from Nunberg.

Civil v criminal for starters.

And Mueller’s team of investigators aren’t going to take a refusal to respond with inaction.

Dammit. Meant to post this. Although it’d be better if it was a giant truck-sized vacuum, trying to clean up a total dumpster fire …

About as useful as anything else right now…

I got nostalgic typing it!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Roger Stone’s part in this—aside from Assange connection—is bringing Jill Stein in as Green Party candidate. He did the same with John Anderson in the 1979 election on behalf of Reagan.

Different rules apply when the government is the party that issued the subpoena.

The server need not tender the attendance fee or mileage allowance when the United States, a federal officer, or a federal agency has requested the subpoena.

Technically a member of Mueller’s team could show up at Nunberg’s kid’s little league practice with the Marshal Service, present him with a compulsory immediate presence order and drag him to the grand jury right then and there.

Civil depositions and grand jury testimony are very different creatures.

Usually what happens in a deposition, particularly of third party witnesses, the deposing attorney will reach out to the witness or their counsel to arrange a date, time, and location. Witness fees are often paid at the deposition, so you got lucky there. The parties will also usually confirm a day or two before that the deposition will be going forward (I’ve had a few cases where depositions were continued several times). And if the witness isn’t critical to the case, it might just get called off.

Yes. Zoey Tur is her father. Zoey is also the woman who was going to crush one Benny Shapiro’s manhood in her hands.
