The Exodus Continues: Gary Cohn to Resign as Trump’s Economic Adviser, Because Who Can Advise Donald Trump?

Politics • Views: 31,396

Another one down. Gary Cohn has apparently had a sudden attack of principles and decided he can’t work for the Trump-thing any more after clashing over Donnie’s reckless and stupid tariff plans.

Gary D. Cohn, President Trump’s top economic adviser, plans to resign, becoming the latest in a series of high-profile departures from the Trump administration, White House officials said on Tuesday.

The officials insisted there was no single factor behind the departure of Mr. Cohn, who heads the National Economic Council. But his decision to leave came after he seemed poised to lose an internal struggle amid a Wild West-style process over Mr. Trump’s plan to impose large tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

The Husband is out of ICU. Today is day 12 in the hospital. Instead of skin grafts, they are trying a wound vacuum for the next few days to promote healing and help shrink the wound some before deciding what the next step is. The necrotizing fasciitis is under control, the antibiotics seem to be doing their job. I still don’t know how much longer he’ll be here. I was told to be prepared for him to need at home recovery time of at least two months. What a nightmare. If you or someone you love is neglecting their diabetes management please gently slap the nonsense out of them. This mess is directly related to unmanaged type 2 diabetes. The Husband is now most likely going to be insulin dependent now because he was a stubborn brat about it. So unnecessary and stupid. Sigh.

I’m not sure that Trump is necessarily worth this argument, but the potential chaos that several high ranking government officials and/or staffers coming out and saying that POTUS is any combination of unstable, ill prepared, uninterested, a moron, or generally in over his head could be dangerous to national security, the global economy, and lord knows what else. Not only because of what Trump might do in response to such comments, but also how other nations (both friend and foe) will react. Better to maintain the facade, in hopes of keeping Trump mollified - even if other nations are starting act as if those comments have been made out loud instead of in private.

Trump hired all the best people. This was one of the Goldman Sachs cronies that he spent the entire campaign railing against because Clinton did speeches there.

The GOP went silent the moment Trump picked not one, but a half dozen Goldman Sachs alums to join his cabal of cronies.

Trump’s entire admin is in chaos and he’s like: it’s not in chaos, you’re in chaos. Oh, and here’s another scandal to throw people off the scent of how awful everything they’re doing.

Carson’s busy engaging in a witch hunt in HUD to go after those who outed his idiotic expenses for office furniture. Carson has no business anywhere in govt in any capacity, but Trump got him for the token black guy and supposed loyalty to Trump.

Everywhere you turn, Trump’s sabotaging functioning govt and the GOP just turns a blind eye or assents to the actions.

Ryan is a prime example of this. The US Constitution - the very document that the GOP claims is their guiding principle and that they adhere to in an originalist view - is specific as to who controls tariffs. It’s not the president. It’s Congress, and yet Ryan defers like a beta male to Trump.

Ryan’s a pushover because he also knows his caucus is just as bugnuts insane as Trump and they would sack him if he actually did the right thing.

Sure you can say it - but until there is some realistic kick back from those who have worked with him & know first hand the disaster that is the administration things will get so much worse. I understand about the personal retribution from trump - but they well know about that before going to work for him.

There are few countries - other than Russia - who currently consider themselves friends of the USA. trump is doing all he can to alienate the former friends of the US - maintaining a facade related to trump will not make this any better.

Any real challenge to Trump is going to have to come from Congress - which is why the mid-terms are so important this year. There is a tremendous amount of damage Trump can do to the world order between now and then, and it’s pretty clear that he would have no problem reacting out of spite (which may well be his primary motivation late in life) to some perceived slight. I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I can understand why people don’t want to just walk out of the building and say “that guy is a fucking moron.”
