I swear, it feels like we’ve reached the Gish Gallop stage of the Trump presidency, where the shitstorm of news updates has made it impossible to keep things straight from day to day. Things that would have killed a presidency even a decade ago now are practically soundbites on the nightly news.

He basically said that Kirsten Gillibrand blew him for campaign donations, and no one gave a shit. Trump is a deranged animal that destroys everything in his path.

It’s trendy the past couple of years for people to talk about the “dark web”, but there has been a hidden structural boil in international world for many years, and that is commercial banking.

That is, the movement of trillions of dollars around banking and investment structures, across countries, often through countries with little incentive to provide transparency to what is really going on.

Tax havens and hideouts for criminals exist, and who knows how many American politicians have been influenced by the flow of money via off-shore assets.

Obermayer & Obermaier, “The Panama Papers.”

It’s not an exaggeration to say that people die so that rich people can stash their money overseas, because the dictators and the mobs use the same havens and laundering processes. Everyone’s mingling their cash with blood money.

I bothered to chase that story several layers down its rabbit hole, and it thins out more in every telling. Four or five levels deep it barely mentions the military involvement and never gets to name, rank or serial number.

Stephanie Clifford, known professionally as Stormy Daniels, signed both the agreement and a side letter agreement using her professional name on October 28, 2016, just days before the 2016 presidential election. Cohen signed the document the same day. Both agreements are appended to the lawsuit as Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2.

The “hush agreement,” as it’s called in the suit, refers to Trump throughout as David Dennison, and Clifford as Peggy Peterson. The side letter agreement reveals the true identities of the parties as Clifford and Trump.

I’m not a lawyer, but it doesn’t seem like you should be able to enforce the terms of a contract if you don’t use your real name.

Neither am I - but AFAICR, “Stormy Daniels” accepted that check made out to “Stephanie Clifford” - at least that’s what Michael Cohen said - so I don’t think any “real name” dodges aren’t going to fly.

I guess a reasonable analogy would be if some studio paid Martin Sheen $1MM for an appearance in something, and then tried to cancel the check/block the payment because it wasn’t made out to “Ramon Estevez”, they wouldn’t get very far in any court….

Adviser to Emirates With Ties to Trump Aides Is Cooperating With Special Counsel

Mr. Nader was first served with search warrants and a grand jury subpoena on Jan. 17, shortly after landing at Washington Dulles International Airport, according to two people familiar with the episode. He had intended to travel on to Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump’s Florida estate, to celebrate the president’s first year in office, but the F.B.I. had other plans, questioning him for more than two hours and seizing his electronics.

Since then, Mr. Nader has been questioned numerous times about meetings in New York during the transition, the Seychelles meeting and meetings in the White House with two of Mr. Trump’s senior advisers, Jared Kushner and Stephen K. Bannon, who has since left the administration.

The meeting in the Seychelles also took place against the backdrop of a larger pattern of secretive contacts between the Trump team and both the Russians and the Emiratis. In the weeks after the 2016 presidential election, Crown Prince Mohammed aroused the suspicions of American national security officials when they learned that he had breached protocol by visiting Trump Tower in Manhattan without notifying the Obama administration of his visit to the United States.

The thing about the Stormy Daniels affair isn’t about whether she has broken her agreement, but rather about drawing publicity to Trump’s attorney’s involvement.

If Trump or his attorney wants to counter sue, or even go to court on this one, I wonder what can come out in a discovery process.

The reason nobody could take this guy’s guns or stop him from buying more guns, in spite of multiple reports about his threats and his general weirdness and probable dangerousness…

Is because Florida specifically chose, at NRA request demand, to invalidate previously existing Red Flag laws. (14 states have such laws. All blue states.)

Some people dismiss Mr. Kudlow as an ideologue. Others find him slick, shallow, overly opportunistic. I know right? Really petty thing to go after someone for not to mention it’s a dog whistle, look y’all O’Rourke uses a Spanish nickname. Apparently though it’s common for Anglos to adopt Hispanic nicknames in El Paso and even if not, who cares, his majority Hispanic constituents don’t mind his nickname.

283
Belafon  Mar 6, 2018 • 7:11:46pm

I went to go look up where Beto came from, and ran across this about O’Rourke on Wikipedia:

O’Rourke attended Carlos Rivera and Mesita Elementary Schools and El Paso High School. He graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1991. In the early 1990s, he was a bassist[8] in the band Foss, which included Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocalist for At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta) on vocals and drums, Arlo Klahr on vocals and guitar, and Mike Stevens on vocals and guitar. The group released a self-titled demo and a 7” record, “The El Paso Pussycats”, on Western Breed Records in 1993. They released a subsequent album, “Fewel St.”, in 1994, also on Western. Foss toured the United States and Canada in the summer of 1993 and again, along with Bixler’s concurrent band, Los Dregtones, in the summer of 1994.

It’s going to be a serious fight. And it sounds like it’s going to be nasty if Cruz is already starting. Cruz is going to overreact, though. Like any Republican, he assumed that once he got elected the first time, it would be easy after that.

From a Russian government-backed news outlet/ website:

Mainstream Media Continue to Swallow Any ‘Absurd Claims’ Levied Against Russia

Another day, another set of allegations levied against Russia. And wasn’t Mexico reported as one of the nation states that has tried to take advantage of his compromised position already? This is crazy.

Yes it is. It’s possible that he’s really going there to reassure them that no matter what they may have heard, he still has full access to the most sensitive US info through his father in law and wife, so he’s still open for business.

It’s a funny thing to look back on, but if she hadn’t dropped out, I would have voted for her for senator in Louisiana when she was thinking about running against Vitter (open primary here, and no Dem had a chance). For one reason, fucking Diaper Dave. For another, she actually seemed pretty smart. If somehow today she came to be running against Trump, Cruz, or any other Republican in any state or city in the land, I’d be wishing her well.

“…The Texas secretary of state says the Democratic and Republican parties pay for polling locations during the state’s primary elections, meaning that ballots for both don’t necessarily have to be offered at all locations.

There were reports during Texas’ first-in-the-nation primary Tuesday that two polling sites in Houston didn’t have Democratic ballots.

Secretary of State spokesman Sam Taylor says parties sometimes opt to consolidate precincts or otherwise forgo having joint polling stations with their counterparts. That can mean that voters wanting to cast ballots for the other party in certain areas have to head to another location.

Texas has a semi-open primary, meaning voters can choose whether to vote Democratic or Republican. The problem doesn’t apply to the general election since no party choice is made.”

How can that be legal?? Hopefully during the November election the polling places will have complete ballots.

$20 porn-unblocking fee could hit Internet users if state bill becomes law

State legislation pending in Rhode Island would force Internet service providers to block “sexual content” by default and charge a one-time fee of $20 to any Internet user who wants to view porn or other “offensive material” online. ISPs would have to hand the money they collect over to the state so it can “help fund the operations of the council on human trafficking.”

The bill was introduced on Thursday by Democratic state Senators Frank Ciccone and Hanna Gallo and is titled “An Act Relating to Public Utilities and Carriers—Internet Digital Blocking.”

ISPs “shall provide… a digital blocking capability that renders inaccessible sexual content and/or patently offensive material as defined in § 11-31-1,” the bill says. Under that state statute, sexual content includes depictions and descriptions of any act of sexual intercourse, whether “normal or perverted, actual or simulated.” Depictions of masturbation are also considered sexual content under this statute.
