White House Meltdown Watch: Unbelievably Lax Security Clearance Handling

More staffers who should never have been able to see classified material are fired
Politics • Views: 35,791

What can you even say at this point? It’s been clear for over a year that the federal government is in the hands of a gang of incompetent, reckless, malevolent clowns: Several White House staffers terminated or reassigned for security clearance issues: Sources.

Several White House staffers have been terminated or reassigned for issues related to their security clearances — with at least one individual employed in the Office of the First Lady relieved of duty, sources with direct knowledge tell ABC News.

There is a list of several other individuals with security clearance issues that are under consideration for possible termination or reassignment in the coming days, sources also tell ABC News. These individuals are likely lower level and could include people who work in the complex but not necessarily in the small confines of the West Wing.

I have no doubt that the reason Sessions and Trump are coming to California to rattle on about the evils of brown immigrants is to try and deflect attention away from the messes in the Administration.

I can only hope that marshalls for whatever superior court is handling the Daniels affair are on hand to serve papers.

Whenever a discussion comes up about Trump with people I do not know and do not want to get into a drawn-out discussion with, I simply state that I do not find him qualified for the office.

This is more evidence that he is not at all qualified to be Chief Executive.

GOP spent months claiming Clinton didn’t handle classified info correctly, and yet refuses to demand accountability when there are dozens of people in Trumpworld who have been accessing classified info who had no business anywhere near any information, let alone have a job, in the WH.

That includes Ivanka and Jared, who are absent from the list.

Reducing their clearances is insufficient. They should be booted from the WH for lack of security clearance. Food handlers in WH have higher clearance that those two.

Heck, the food handlers should have higher clearance than Trump himself. If Trump were anyone other than President, he’d be incapable of getting clearance. That was self-evident from the day he announced his run until today. He shows an absolute disregard for security clearances, safeguarding classified info, and his entire team shows no interest in protecting US national security.

Seems to me there is no way out of this where Cohen isn’t fucked. The only possible outcomes now are that he says he did all fo this on his own, faked Trump’s involvement, perpetrated a fraud upon the Court, unethically forced Daniels to sign a statement that Cohen knew to be false, is prosecuted for an illegal campaign contribution and is disbarred … or an investigation into his conduct reveals coordination with Trump and takes him down too.

Trump expected to inspect border wall prototypes in California next week

While there, Trump is expected to travel to San Diego to view the eight prototypes for the president’s long-promised border wall.

Sure, AF1 can land at North Island or Miramar no problem, but the only way Trump will be able to avoid the masses is by moving around by helicopter.

And he’s going to a fundraiser in Los Angeles. As if there won’t be a lot attention up there.

See, this is the thing. We’ve had bad American presidents before. We’ve had foolish American presidents before. We’ve even had criminal American presidents before. But they’ve all had redeeming qualities. They’ve all believed in the value of the American people and the American state, and they’ve all had at least some empathy and some concern for humans that aren’t themselves. Furthermore, they’ve also been men of personal accomplishment (except maybe W), who have demonstrated success in other fields and risen because of that. And even W at least had extensive political experience.

But now, not only do we have a criminal and woeful American president, but also a singularly disgusting and vile human, with no redeeming qualities at all. None. The fact that millions of Americans think that this is normal and even desirable is a stain on this nation that cannot be erased.

I think Robert Mueller is a very organized man. He will put all of this in proper perspective and detail how it all went down and its connections to everyone that is connected.

I happen to think he sees this as a historic mission and a big need to bring this whole sad episode to a proper end with a lesson learned that may last for a long time.

He is old enough to have seen this whole change in politics fueled by such BS as Fox News and wingnut radio. He has a chance to kill a lot of bad and I think he understands that and is prepared to do whatever he needs to do it.

I think he sees it as a war for the soul of this country.

re: #73 ObserverArt

I think Robert Mueller is a very organized man. He will put all of this in proper perspective and detail how it all went down and its connections to everyone that is connected.

I happen to think he sees this as a historic mission and a big need to bring this whole sad episode to a proper end with a lesson learned that may last for a long time.

He is old enough to have seen this whole change in politics fueled by such BS as Fox News and wingnut radio. He has a chance to kill a lot of bad and I think he understands that and is prepared to do whatever he needs to do it.

I think he sees it as a war for the soul of this country.

i agree and i’ll add that he is probably redoubling his effort and resolve every day as new things come to light - not all directly related to his work

the security clearances
the general chaos and dysfunction
what’s become a daily drama

none of it is normal for the office of the presidency and that’s what mueller is trying to protect/resurrect

Trump will raise money in Beverly Hills next week. Donors can give up to $250,000

The fundraiser is being hosted by Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, national finance chairman Todd Ricketts and deputy national finance chairman Elliott Broidy.

One interesting bit of info on the latter:

A Top Trump Fund-Raiser Says Qatar Hacked His Email

A cyberwar in the Persian Gulf reverberated in the United States this week as a top Republican fund-raiser accused agents for Qatar of hacking into his email to plant damaging articles in the American news media.

The fund-raiser, Elliott Broidy, 60, a national deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee, is the owner of a company with hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts to provide services to the United Arab Emirates. Qatar called Mr. Broidy’s charges a false “diversionary tactic to distract from the serious allegations against himself and his client, the United Arab Emirates.”

Mr. Broidy and Qatar each threatened legal actions.

[…]

Everything touched by Trump turns rotten.

Well, at least with Nixon, there’s a legit argument. Literally the only reason to say Obama is the worst president of the modern era is because he’s black. He had no scandals and he didn’t enact any outrageous policies. Obamacare wasn’t even all that unpopular, and that would basically be the single “worst” thing he did.

Under California law they don’t need to be notarized. And it actually complicates things if they’re signing under pseudonyms because the whole point of a notary is that the notary is confirming who is signing a document.

Did Cohen just have a form NDA that he’d fill in the blanks and cut checks to women on behalf of Trump? How often did this happen?

And if Trump didn’t sign and Cohen wasn’t authorized to sign, then these don’t have any force and effect, which means Daniels is under no obligation to remain silent (and all those other NDAs are likely done the same way, which means they too aren’t worth the paper written on).

Maybe “fake” NDAs are part of the Trump legal team toolbox. Trump probably figures everyone thinks he has the money and the resolve to fight them all the way and they fear him. So, they accept the NDAs. And I bet the way it works with his lawyers is he finds guys willing to do what he wants and not what a good lawyer would recommend.

Cohen’s a NY lawyer. Not a particularly good one at that.

He went out of his way to cross out that he was attorney for DD on the hush agreement, and put in that he was attorney for Essential Consultants LLC, which was an attempt to obfuscate the money source/who was bound to the agreement IMO.

This reeks.

It’s the latest thing on the Right - California has become like a 3rd World country.

You mean like France, Spain or Italy - countries whose economies are about the same size as California’s?

And if CA is such a shithole, how come so many people (like, say, one out of every nine Americans) want to live there?

I’m sure James Woods IS quite pissed off at all those “miles of tent cities” - they probably spoil his view as he tools past them in his Ferrari.

About the only time Woods might see tent cities is when he’s on the freeway on his way to the Bicycle Casino. And it’s definitely not miles of them.

Here is the story. Might not be as big as first mentioned.

NY Times - Trump Spoke to Witnesses About Matters They Discussed With Special Counsel

WASHINGTON — The special counsel in the Russia investigation has learned of two conversations in recent months in which President Trump asked key witnesses about matters they discussed with investigators, according to three people familiar with the encounters.

In one episode, the president told an aide that the White House counsel, Donald F. McGahn II, should issue a statement denying a New York Times article in January. The article said Mr. McGahn told investigators that the president once asked him to fire the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III. Mr. McGahn never released a statement and later had to remind the president that he had indeed asked Mr. McGahn to see that Mr. Mueller was dismissed, the people said.

In the other episode, Mr. Trump asked his former chief of staff, Reince Priebus, how his interview had gone with the special counsel’s investigators and whether they had been “nice,” according to two people familiar with the discussion.

The episodes demonstrate that even as the special counsel investigation appears to be intensifying, the president has ignored his lawyers’ advice to avoid doing anything publicly or privately that could create the appearance of interfering with it.

The White House did not respond to several requests for comment. Mr. Priebus and Mr. McGahn declined to comment through their lawyer, William A. Burck.

Legal experts said Mr. Trump’s contact with the men most likely did not rise to the level of witnesses tampering. But witnesses and lawyers who learned about the conversations viewed them as potentially a problem and shared them with Mr. Mueller.

The CAGOP is an absolute mess. There are a few (current and former) Republican mayors, but the state party can’t get them to run for anything statewide. And there’s only about half a percent separating them from falling into third place in voter registration behind Decline To State.

Supermarket shelves up and down the country are empty as a result of panic buying and a lack of deliveries following a week of horrendous weather.

There have been reports of people queuing for hours to get their hands on the essentials and police have even been called to stores to deal with arguments.

But despite their desperation, there was one product that some people still wouldn’t touch - ham and pineapple pizzas.

I’m a Texan, and I’ve stopped expecting any improvement. They say we’re turning purple, but we never see any evidence of it — voters just keep voting for the craziest Republicans they can get. Who the fuck’s gun was it and how did this kid get it?

And what is this obsession with taking guns to schools?

Ok 3 questions

If the initial report is correct, the boy was using it as a penis enlargement.

AKA, the intended purpose according to the NRA.

Wait, wait, wait - the Left lives in gated communities? That’s funny, because the Right also says the Left are all lazy moochers who live on the dole.

How the hell do you live on the dole in a gated community?

You join the military. They pay for your family housing & medical (to a certain degree). In return, you just have to promise to follow orders and die if called upon. If you don’t die, well we have a program that may or may not help you. It’s called the V.A.

History seems to suggest that when it comes to that point, it becomes a matter of which warlord you have to fight. Humans abhor anarchy, and will organize to prevent it. Individual arsenals are useless in any case. Unorganized individuals can’t fight off anyone who is equally armed and organized.

Usually the idea is that if society breaks down, hordes of black (usually) people will swarm out of the cities and attack any white homestead looking for supplies. Why that, rather than forage or enter empty warehouses never occurs to them.

Incorrect.

They’re not afraid of Trump.

They’re afraid of their base/core voters. Trump isn’t the problem. He’s a symptom of the moral/ethical rot of the GOP voter base.

That’s why they aren’t moving against Trump. Because they are worried that the base would revolt against the sane minority among the GOPers in office.

That’s true but that sort of goes with Trump. Trump is much popular with the GOP base then tehy are. But I agree. Trump is the symptom of the GOP base’s rot. They are as HRC accurately described deplorable.

The Russians must have been well prepared to keep the Donald going as long as possible. And I think they run info through him as their paid puppet.

They most likely were thinking with the emergence of far right thinking, Nationalist thinking in America, etc. they could have a nice long run.

Tie down congress with some hacking of their emails, RNC server and probably a lot more, while doing the social media thing and paying who knows who besides the NRA (Fox/Hannity???) to talk up their guy.

It worked, but for how long now? Trump is pissing off so many in one direction, and Mueller coming from another. Meanwhile the Russians can make him sweat to get what they want, now probably on a quicker schedule knowing they might need to cut him off soon.

He is gonna blow up here big lee’ and probably make the mistake that will be new but fatal to his “political career.” The Mueller investigation might not even be the thing at this rate.

I think this overlooks the extent to which a hefty chunk of the GOP agree with him completely and find his consequence-free, constant bullshitting and corruption to be liberating.

Nothing matters. That’s the lesson of Trump.

Crossing the Kochs in re: tariffs could be one potentially fatal error. Trump has also lost many of the more conservative finance pundits, who see his bumbling about tariffs as the precursor to inflation and a screwed economy down the road. The danger, they say, is a failed economy would allow the Democrats to regain control of COngress and the White House.

Oh noez!!

The switch tends to lad trends a little bit here in Texas. Democrats were in power a little longer than they should have been, they were far more liberal than the state itself. Some of that is happening now. Texas isn’t going to flip blue in one election. But having more Democrats actually run will help change that.
