Russian state TV warns ‘traitors’ of the dangers of living in Britain

A presenter on Russian state television has issued an apparent threat to “traitors” living in Britain. Kirill Kleymenov warned of the dangers of spying on Russia and advised those who betrayed their country: “Don’t choose Britain as a place to live.”

The comments, made on Channel One’s Vremya news programme on Wednesday evening, came amid speculation over who was behind the attempted murder of a double agent on British soil.
“I don’t wish death on anyone, but, purely for educational purposes, I have a warning for anyone who dreams of such a career,” he reportedly said.

“The profession of a traitor is one of the most dangerous in the world.”

Given the recent revelations on Kaspersky, the cynic in me is thinking that “top-notch well-sourced actor” is probably the same intelligence agency that Kaspersky acts as a front for (Russia’s FSB) and one of their espionage tools got into the wild and are now trying to cover their tracks. Kaspersky is already on the NSA’s and FBI’s watchlists, and the last thing they want is some further attention.

Ironically one of the more sane gun channels on Youtube recently did a week long experiment of eating according to WWII British rationing. It was a bit bland but very healthy, nutritious & filling and with the various “holes” intentionally left for things not rationed, could be kept from being to boring.

Did you know that under World War II rationing, the health of the British public improved by virtually every objective measure? Caloric intake increased, lifespan increased, and infant mortality decreased. Despite being an island nation under severe submarine blockade, the United Kingdom managed to not just provide food for its millions of inhabitants, but actually build and maintain the public trust in government rationing. How did this happen? We will explore the question all week, while Ian eats a diet of only what a typical British family would have eaten during the dark days of the Blitz.

Day 1 Menu:

Breakfast: Oatmeal Porridge, tea
Lunch: Leek & Potato Soup, bread & margarine, water
Tea: Vanilla Depression Cake, tea
Dinner: Cottage Pie, ale

I like to dress it up a bit with a bit of carrot & celery and then at the end add some fresh sliced mushrooms.

OT I took the plunge and bought a new MacBook. This one is a MacBook Air. This was done because my old MacBook battery capacity was going down. I think I got the new MacBook set up but you are never sure until you test it. I think I am going to enjoy this new one because it is much lighter than the old one. It was a doozie to set up but I think I got it done.

I guess it was rather amusing to the farmers but scared the crap out of my brother. It came at him and jumped up wings flapping and he fell down. He got up running and the goose chased him. I don’t think I ever heard what he did to piss the goose off.

He never wanted to be around a goose ever again even though he grew up to be 6’7” and 275. He was that traumatized.

Geese are very territorial. I would fish with my cousin in Center Valley Pa many a moon ago. I would stay with them for a week once a year. The best part was we would be dropped off with some bait and tackle and just wander farmland and streams for about 6 hours. Had a pickup point. Catch grasshoppers, minnies. Discovered black angus bulls are not to fucked with. Basic milk cows have a demonic side when in herd formation not chewing cud. And geese are vicious bastards. We had a couple of instances with about 8-10 geese in tight formation, wings wide, honking. First time we just tried to use our hands to fend them off. Nope. Bastards bite. Hard. We learned to go around the houses that had them.

Don’t peel it with a peeler.

Cut in half, then into half-circles, then work around the exterior trimming away the rind, all with a heavy knife. I use a cheap Chinese cleaver, which has enough heft that you can use any part of the blade. If using a French-type knife, hack with the heel of the blade.

Much faster, a bit safer, and it won’t screw up you peeler.

Don’t peel it with a peeler.

Cut in half, then into half-circles, then work around the exterior trimming away the rind, all with a heavy knife. I use a cheap Chinese cleaver, which has enough heft that you can use any part of the blade. If using a French-type knife, hack with the heel of the blade.

Much faster, a bit safer, and it won’t screw up you peeler.

Trump’s a twit who opened the door to Jong Un calling the shots. Trump gave up leverage on North Korea the moment Trump opened his yapper.

North Korea hasn’t had a moment like this in decadesever, where they’ve got a US leader on a leash.

Trump and Fox think that this is all helping the US, but there’s zero evidence the US has achieved anything by Trump giving up the demand/requirement that the North Koreans first dismantle their nuclear program before we do direct talks.

Guess who gets screwed by all this? South Korea and Japan, because this helps create a schism between the longtime allies of the US. North Korea gets a win for doing nothing.

Promising to not launch missile tests is easy when the North Koreans can use the time to do more tinkering with their systems and their nuclear program continues to inch forward.

At the same time, Trump’s busy bitching about the Iran deal, which has kept Iran’s nuclear ambitions in check. Trump can’t help but try to unravel that deal too, which makes one wonder how and why Trump’s actively undermining US national security all over the world. None of this benefits the US. It does help the Russians, who benefit from the chaos Trump has sown among our allies and partners.

This is all helping Putin beyond his wildest dreams.

So, it’s been a week since the latest Nor’easter came through the NYC metro area. I did some driving out in Wayne NJ today, and it was eye-opening. There were stretches where there were massive tree branches down everywhere.

Just off Hamburg Turnpike, there was a road where there was an apartment complex - 2 story coop/condo style homes - attached.

There were tree branches down absolutely everywhere - branches into/on every single roof as far as you could see.

Any plane nuts, pilots or even just WWII fans? I was looking for something else when I found this video by the late Jeff Ethell on flying the P-40E. It’s an interesting video, especially when he talks about how maneuverable it was (“like a Pitts with an Allison up front”) and then remembering how I’ve read that the engine could be over powered to 75” hg in combat. A far more impressive aircraft than the mythology of WWII would lead you to believe.

Yeah, I just went to Wikipedia after posting and read about how Allied pilots generally said that a P-40 and a Zero were on equal terms as long as you kept your nose down and didn’t lose too much speed.

I agree, but DeVos doesn’t seem to believe public schools turn out highly intelligent students like the Parkland students. Her focus seems to be on how to use public funding to enrich her buddies via charter schools run by private companies. We tried that here in my Middle GA city years ago. Edison received a multi-million dollar contract to ”transform” a struggling public school. The company had promised to increase student test scores. The venture was a major fail. The city ended the contract and gave Edison the boot in less than two years.

I talk politics with my kids, and I have them read and watch things to expand what they know (like I’m making my youngest read The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges). They’re outsiders, looking in, and critiquing the “many problems” they see in public schools without realizing that the “many problems” they’re identifying has everything to do with their policy positions on public education.

I think they’re causing these problems to weaken the public education system.

I talk politics with my kids, and I have them read and watch things to expand what they know (like I’m making my youngest read The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges). My middle gets rather frustrated at times at how incurious his classmates are, and how little their families seem to engage with them on topics. Then again, I get frustrated at the people at work for the same reason.

Son2 blew away his Olympics of the Mind teacher by identifying Moshe Dayan. She wanted to know how an Alabama Goy HS kid would know that. He admitted that it came from our dinner time dirty joke about a rabbi, a parrot, and the good general.

So, it’s been a week since the latest Nor’easter came through the NYC metro area. I did some driving out in Wayne NJ today, and it was eye-opening. There were stretches where there were massive tree branches down everywhere.

Just off Hamburg Turnpike, there was a road where there was an apartment complex - 2 story coop/condo style homes - attached.

There were tree branches down absolutely everywhere - branches into/on every single roof as far as you could see.

We’ve got another one coming tomorrow night, and they’re saying our part of the island could get 8 - 10” of snow.

I might end up getting to use the snow blower after all, but I’d rather not TBH.

Depends on the coal. Per a recent NPR discussion, we export $1B in metallurgical coal to Brazil, who turns it into steel, much for export to us. Guess who is going to get screwed in a tariff trade war.

My son was complaining that he wanted everything to useful, utilitarian, in his worldview. I bought him a copy of JS Mill’s essays ;) I don’t think he’s started reading them yet (I especially pointed out Utilitarianism) but I think the seed has been planted. I also hope he’ll read On Liberty as I think he’d find that useful < rimshot >

That’s cool. Other than the health issues, which is being mitigated by robotics, and environmental issues, non-fuel uses of coal are fine.

Don’t I know it, from travelling around 50’s Uniontown at night. The NPR guest did not specify where it was coked, though he left the impression it was in Brazil.

In the 50’s, it was done in fairly small ovens, reaching to the horizons in a grid pattern. Poured out coal-tar derivatives like the furnaces of Hell.
