The Trump-Thing Kicks Off Sunday With a Trio of Unhinged Twitter Rants

Looking guilty as hell
Politics • Views: 37,986

You can almost see the flop sweat glistening on his orange forehead, as our so-called (hopefully soon erstwhile) president babbles incoherently about all the people out to get him.

And cites his favorite political adviser, Fox and Friends.

The whole nation is stuck in the room with racist grandpa while he rants and boasts and fantasizes.

So he’s admitting his prison system sux

One of the abilities of a conservative is to be able to hold conflicting ideas at the same time.

There have been no prison breaks here except when aided by corrections officers. On the other hand, scaring people into voting for the death penalty is predicated on the idea of prison breaks.

To be clear, we have had prison riots, in some cases where wardens or deputy wardens were killed. Even in those cases, prisoners did not escape.

The state has the history of the penitentiary system on a state Website:

A general strike would make more sense the day after he fires Mueller.

act.moveon.org

Map of all places in the USA where protests are planned within a day of Robert Mueller being fired. There are thousands.

The site also allows you to create a protest if one is not near you, and has a search function by Zip Code to find the nearest protest.

For me, the nearest planned are at the Alliance Post Office and at Sen. Ben Sasse’s office in Scottsbluff (both about sixty miles).

The map takes some time (at my data speeds anyway) to fill in because there are so many planned.

Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) said Sunday the House Intelligence Committee was not tasked with investigating collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, despite the committee issuing a report last week stating it found no evidence of collusion in the 2016 election.

“Our committee was not charged with answering the collusion idea,” Conaway said on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

“So we really weren’t focused on that direction.”

Two quick “Casual Observations” by Martin Longman:

It really should be very hard to put someone in prison, especially for things that they’ve said rather than done. That’s why I have mixed feelings about the ways liars can hide behind their “intent” when defending themselves against charges of perjury. Yes, of course, a lie is not a lie if you were simply mistaken or confused or forgetful. That’s still different from asking a prosecutor to prove that there’s no alternative explanation for your lies. Based on what I already know about what Jeff Sessions has said at different times under oath, I know he committed perjury but that doesn’t mean a prosecutor would necessarily win those cases in court. The dial seems like it’s turned a little too far in the direction of the defendant, which bothers me even though I’d rather have the dial turned that way than in the other.

and

You do think something is going to irrevocably break before we see the next Sunday?

The Nancy Pelosi Problem
The first female speaker of the House has become the most effective congressional leader of modern times—and, not coincidentally, the most vilified.

Gender scholars would not be surprised. For a 2010 paper in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the Yale researchers Victoria Brescoll and Tyler Okimoto showed study participants the fictional biographies of two state senators, identical except that one was named John Burr and the other Ann Burr. (I referred to this study in an October 2016 article for this magazine called Fear of a Female President.) When quotations were added that described the state senators as “ambitious” and possessing “a strong will to power,” John Burr became more popular. But the changes provoked “moral outrage” toward Ann Burr, whom both men and women became less willing to support.

Nancy Pelosi, by leading her party in Congress, has become Ann Burr. A woman can serve in Congress without being perceived as overly ambitious. By climbing to the top of the greasy pole, however, Pelosi has made her ambition visible. She has gained the power to tell her male colleagues what to do. (The pollster Celinda Lake notes that most ads attacking Pelosi show her speaking, not listening.) She has put herself, to quote the anti-Ossoff ad, “in control.”

Karo dark on white bread for dessert?

Living large when the condiments speak to you.
3 decker;
3 pieces of slightly stiff white bread
1st layer=Catsup/ketchup
2nd layer=mayo
bottom layer=mustard (yellow preferred to not overpower the blend.)
Cut crossways and present.

Makes me think about some places keeping packets behind the counter.
I’m sure it still is a meal.

A Sandwich involves two slices of bread. A filled bun is not a sandwich, it’s a filled bun. A bacon roll is not the same as a bacon sandwich. You don’t ask the baker for 4 rolls cut for sandwiches, you do when getting a loaf sliced.

Screen capture from Daily Wire, with Matt Walsh weighing in with a heavy load of derp:

archive.is

It doesn’t bother me that students staged a walkout over gun violence this week. It doesn’t bother me that many high school students are pro-gun control. They’re kids and they’re trying to figure out where they stand on things. What does bother me is that the public school system is very selective about the political speech it chooses to allow. I would wager that their tolerance for ideological demonstration would rapidly deteriorate if it weren’t for the fact that so many teachers and administrators personally agree with the point the students were making.

But I welcome the opportunity to be proven wrong. That is why I am calling for a pro-life walkout. After all, far more kids are killed by scalpels in abortion clinics than by AR-15s in the classroom. Why stop short in the anti-violence message? Why fight for the dozens of children killed in mass shootings while ignoring the millions of children killed by abortionists?

Let the schools prove that they really are so happy and proud to see kids taking a stand and getting involved in the issues. Let’s have pro-life students use their voices to speak out for the kids who truly cannot speak for themselves, and let’s force the schools to play host to this demonstration just as they did so willingly for the anti-gun crowd.

(more derp at the link, and too much to deconstruct here already)

For all of 5th and 6th grade my mother made us peanut butter and oleo sandwiches, cheese curls (Cheetos’ cheaper. more disgusting cousin), and off brand marshmallow pies for lunch. Every. Goddamned. Day. Two years straight. At first it was because it was cheap and filling. After a few months when we kids started complaining she kept it up to teach us a lesson. The second year it was because she always was kind of a dick. As I recall Dad was making some good money after joining the painter’s union, so she could have given us bologna once in awhile. Or even braunschweiger fer chrissakes.

One day in year two I had a bit of a breakdown at school and just couldn’t deal with that lunch. Again. The school called my mom and she told them to send me home for lunch, where of course she made me eat that same damned lunch. Like I said, dick.

We got ramen noodles so much primarily because we were so poor, not that my mother was being cruel.

We ate the standard school lunch, though at the time free school lunch tickets in my school were a different colour than paid tickets, so they could be extra-special cruel (no seconds, no substitutions, &c) and all the other students got to poor shame.

To be fair to Buffett, he appears to be saying that if you’re basically an unhappy person, money won’t make you happier. But it’s worth noting that one of the biggest, if not THE biggest reasons for friction in relationships is money.

Mrs. FBW has asked me more than once what I would do if I suddenly became fabulously wealthy. Usually I ask, “Is there something you want to tell me?”, but no, there never has been. Dammit.

Anyhow, I always answer honestly that I don’t have a clue, because since I was 21, I’ve never had the option of not working. And money would change a number of my hobbies, quite a bit. Take watches - I’d have time for all the training in watchmaking I wanted. But part of my interest has always been to be able to take the clunkers that I can snag on Ebay for $10-$30 and make them into working watches, because I can’t afford to collect the best ones. If I could afford any watch I wanted, it would make the ‘bottomfeeding’ approach to collecting silly for me.

Somewhat off-topic: My favorite photo caption on Wikipedia is for this Dagwood sandwich:

“A Dagwood sandwich. The sandwich took 43 minutes to construct and partially toppled twice during construction. The final weight of the sandwich was 5 pounds 4 ounces (2.4 kilograms). Contents of the sandwich include: 1 lb. bread (whole grain) 1 lb. 4 oz. chicken salad (10 oz. chicken, 6 oz. grapes, 4 oz. mayonaisse) 9 oz. sliced turkey 8 oz. roast beef 8 oz. pastrami 9 oz, cheese (4 oz. cheddar, 5 oz. Muenster) 7 oz. tomato 4 oz. mustard 5 leaves of butter lettuce 1 olive The sandwich took just under two hours to consume.”

I bookmarked it. Thanks for that info!

Jared Kushner’s family real estate company filed false New York City housing paperwork (Chicago Tribune), more at the link:

When the Kushner Cos. bought three apartment buildings in a gentrifying neighborhood of Queens in 2015, most of the tenants were protected by special rules that prevent developers from pushing them out, raising rents and turning a tidy profit.

But that’s exactly what the company then run by Jared Kushner did, and with remarkable speed. Two years later, it sold all three buildings for $60 million, nearly 50 percent more than it paid.

Now a clue has emerged as to how President Donald Trump’s son-in-law’s firm was able to move so fast: The Kushner Cos. routinely filed false paperwork with the city declaring it had zero rent-regulated tenants in dozens of buildings it owned across the city when, in fact, it had hundreds.

As someone who has occasion to peer into college classrooms as they are in progress from time to time, I can tell you that about 1 in 15 students uses the laptop to take adequate notes. Some just watch ESPN; some shop; a lot think they are taking notes by zoning out between what they consider fluff to check other screens and then coming back to take a note on what is usually just a topic shift.

We never had it in the fridge at our house. My mother, apparently, put her foot down. Grandma always had it, and my dad was in heaven whenever he had a sandwich there.

I don’t like it because I am (mostly) a sweet/savory Nazi. Sweet is for dessert, savory is for all else. Some exceptions, but putting a hugely sweet condiment on anything is mostly a no go for me.

I have to say though, on rare occasion, Miracle Whip is kinda good on a ham and swiss sandwich. Maybe once every three or four years. :D

The Guardian is trying to operate on a different model than the standard newspaper sell subscriptions and adverts model, which is failing so many newspapers now.

They are now operated as a not-for-profit, and run the newspaper and site on cash donations, much like a blog like Little Green Footballs. (I’m not sure if their print newspaper in England costs more or still takes adverts.)

Using that model, The Guardian has been able to expand its newsroom and invest in long-term journalistic exposes (such as the recent Cambridge Analytica articles).

Yeah, definitely a new factor in the confrontation with the guy in the median at a stoplight with a sign.

Damn. I didn’t even think of that.

As one person noted, it would solve the panhandling problem (by converting it to armed robbery).

Nope. Guns.

They want to arm homeless people.

OT: I’ve been watching a show called Chain of Command on the National Geographic channel, about our military’s anti-terrorism efforts in various places. In the final episode, the NatGeo film team had embedded in Niger with the team that included the 4 killed last year (the team that Trump and Kelly were such assholes to the widow); to get the whole episode you’d need to sign in through your cable system, but here’s a clip of LaDavid Johnson. He’s got the sweetest smile.

Wow. That should be seen by all.

He’s been pretty much forgotten.

My wife the Libertarian points out that this “give guns to the homeless” idea could fit within the Libertarian rubric of “taxation is theft at the point of a gun.”

This candidate just wants to cut out the middleman (government).

I ski on Wagner Custom Skis, I sent the builder specs (tip, waist, tail measurements, and based on a profile I filled out, they made the skis out of aspen and fir, which makes them torsionally stiff, and a vertical ceramic sidewall) and they built me two pairs, my 90s and my 100s (that’s the waist measurement, how wide they are under my feet, in millimeters). Best goddamn pairs of skis I’ve ever owned.

Oh I know. I just went to the Rossi website because that’s the kind of skis I have.

I had a pair of Rossignol PowAirs, an all-mountain twin tip. I snapped one of the skis in half doing a mogul run in Steamboat. That was in 2003. They wouldn’t replace them (they were only a year old). Haven’t skied on Rossignols since. Until my Wagners came along, K2 was always my go to brand. From 2000 to 2010 I bought five pairs of K2 skis. I was bummed when they closed their factory in Washington State in the late 90s (all their skis are made in China) but goddamn it, they make a good ski.

Why are they taking a helicopter from DC to NYC? Aside from the noise of helicopters, and the fact they are way less efficient than aeroplanes, and they’re not supposed to be in the government at all in any position (remember the ruckus the GOP raised when Bill Clinton had Hillary Clinton work on a health plan), they are generally less-safe to fly.
