Stunning Video Shows Cambridge Analytica CEO Discussing Using Bribery and Sex Workers

Politics • Views: 53,425

YouTube

There’s some rather amazing stuff in this Channel 4 undercover investigation, including the CEO of Cambridge Analytica offering to “send some girls around to the candidate’s house,” discussing using bribes and fake IDs, and more.

The more that emerges about Cambridge Analytica, the worse they look. High-tech sleaze. Which shouldn’t be a surprise, I guess, given their close association with the Trump gang.

when people started using social media as a source of news, they left us open for some major manipulation. these people were just exploiting a vulnerability for financial gain, the very driving force of modern capitalism

I’ve seen a few tweets from people like Ken Vogel saying “Cambridge Analytica charged a lot of money for very little demonstrable impact” and someone else with “CA wouldn’t know what to do with all that data even if they did get it!” Seems like there’s a lot more to the story.

The NYT and Guardian pieces went into depth about value and implementation so I’m not sure that line of thinking is very viable. And a lot was known even before our last election because it was done in other countries.

And then of course they did steal the FB data.

Tom Nichols is having a lot of fun on his timeline, having said that rural America should stop thinking of itself as ‘Default American’, because since the founding of the Republic, the population has consistently been getting less and less rural. This came out of an article from someone visiting some small town where the gas station also sells enough guns to outfit the Wolverines.

This led to a lot of rural types touting their superiority over the Coastal Elites….

I met a nice woman last month who retired here after teaching special ed for 20 years at a tiny town almost 100 miles from here, She named it and I said, ‘I’ve been there, and I got the t-shirt!’ She said, ‘They have t-shirts?!?’

I posted this in the last thread:

A little speculation on the Cambridge Analytica video…

Given as how Bannon was pretty closely tied with the Mercers, who’s to say that CA didn’t turn that bribery - sex workers thing on their own party?

You know Bannon would be down with it. And it would go a long way in explaining why no one on the R side has made a peep in opposition to Trump.

(I’m convinced that Republicans have been forced into acquiescence due to blackmail. I’ve always thought the raw materials for blackmail came from the Russian hack of the RNC, but this CA story seems like it could have been used against ‘friend’ and ‘foe’ alike, given Trump’s paranoia and Bannon’s worst impulses.)

After watching that video, it seems even more plausible that Trump/Bannon could have run a sting on their own presumptive party.

Isn’t Nichols from Wisconsin? And yeah I get tired of rural America’s superiority complex and its idea that it’s “real America”. It’s all “real America” but to be honest the cities and burbs resemble more what we are.

There has always been a split. Hamilton and Franklin were city types who saw America’s future in the burgeoning cities of Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. Jefferson and Madison were countryfolk who believed the future was in the yeoman farmer. The Civil War pitted the northern industrial cities against the southern (rural) plantations. Even during the post war boom, as more people moved to cities, there were plenty of politicians who would lionize the noble farmer/rancher who put food on our table. It’s become more noticeable in the internet age and all the stories of communities being left behind, but it really isn’t anything new.

Fortune, December 11, 2015:
Ted Cruz’s Secret Weapon: Your Facebook Likes

“…Cambridge Analytica’s data seems to come from a Cambridge University professor named Aleksandr Kogan, who started conducting a large-scale personality survey in 2014. He relied on Amazon’s Mechanical Turk service to find people who wanted to participate in the study in exchange for compensation.

Kogan’s company paid people $1 to take the study and give access to their Facebook (fb, -6.53%) profiles, which would be automatically scoured for data like name, location, and gender, and Facebook likes.

But people who have never taken a Mechanical Turk survey might find themselves in the dataset, because Kogan’s company also captured the same data for each respondent’s friends. The vast majority of those contacts never gave Kogan permission to use their Facebook profiles.

Sure, it’s fucking easy to say that. Everybody’s corrupt, they’re all in on the con, yadda yadda.

But it’s pretty close to impossible that every single Republican is equally corrupt. Easy to make that charge, but I doubt it.

Blackmail is essentially exploiting a pressure point. A pressure point for any given politician would be different, and not all blackmail pertains to purely political situations.

No one is going to convince me that every single elected Republican has zero fear that they could be ruined in front of their families and peers. Sure, they’re craven, but craven enough to give up their families or standing in their community?

Well, I don’t think it’s so much a question of having zero fear of being ruined, but of not doing anything that their families or communities would be ashamed of.

There are probably some Republican Congressmen with live boys in the closet and so on. But what could they possibly be blackmailed on? The president had an affair with a porn star and illegally paid hush money out of campaign funds, but his supporters haven’t changed their minds one bit.

Republican voters and Republican communities wouldn’t abandon their representatives over anything that there might be credible blackmail material on. Selling secrets to foreign nations? The administration does that in full view and Republicans don’t care. Planning violence or fraud or other crimes to harm their opposition? Republicans would cheer at the thought of their congressmen wanting to hurt liberals. Sex crimes? Democrats are still worse.

Blackmail implies that there’s something that might be uncovered that would lead to public shame or criminal charges. But there’s no such thing to Republican voters or Trumper communities. The only thing that’s shameful is being a liberal. Doing anything else is fine, as long as they’re still part of the tribe. Doing anything terrible for the purpose of hurting liberals is not only fine, but laudable. That’s why I don’t think Republicans are being blackmailed. I don’t think they would think anything they’re doing is shameful.

Hey, maybe this is why Brad Parscale had to rent those ‘thousands of hotel rooms‘…

Parscale recently spoke about how his San Antonio-based firm was big enough to help boost the local economy.

“We spent nearly $100 million in the course of the campaign with our operation based in San Antonio,” Parscale told the Rivard Report, a regionally-based digital news outlet, “and a ton of that money was spent in San Antonio on campaign-related employment, thousands of hotel rooms, all kinds of economic activity.”

He added: “Many of the employees that worked on the campaign have spun off their own enterprises, using the campaign as a catalyst to better success.”

This post includes all known videos and updated information on that terrible chairlift accident in Georgia.

A voltage fluctuation resulted in the death of a woman from Texas last winter at Ski Granby Ranch, CO. While the lift was in operation it suddenly sped up and slowed down, resulting in chairs slamming into the towers. The woman’s chair slammed into a tower which threw her and her two young daughters off the chair. She died at the scene and her two daughters were seriously injured. A lawsuit filed by the family against the ski area is pending.

I don’t think it was a voltage fluctuation. This was the dreaded rollback. Two things have to fail on the chairlift, the gearbox on the motor and the primary motor brake. When those things go you have to use the bullwheel emergency brake, which finally stopped that chairlift in Georgia after 90 harrowing seconds.

Bergen County is in for it as well… although the spread on snow is impressive.

4 inches to 10 inches.

An inconvenience to a significant drubbing (and given that this is another one of those super heavy dense snows predicted, it’s going to mean more power outages and downed trees).

Yeah, you need a goddamned scorecard to keep track of Trump family values.

Don Sr: cheated on 1st wife with 2d. Cheated on 2d with 3d. Cheated on 3d with at least one porn star. He cheated while his 3d wife was post partum.

Don Jr. cheated on his 1st wife while pregnant with his 5th kid. He had affair with Celebrity Apprentice contestant Aubrey O’Day (who I’d never heard of before today).

And here they are about to have the 3d shutdown under Trump, which is unprecedented and a record. No other time in our nation’s history have we ever had even a single shutdown when the same party controls Congress and the WH, and they’re about to do it a 3d time.

They aren’t just incompetent and incapable of negotiating a budget deal. They are incapable and unwilling to govern and voters need to be reminded of this every single day between now and November.

That’s on top of everything else that the GOP is doing to destroy functioning government.

In the rock tour weirdness department - Rundgren announced a Utopia reunion tour a few weeks back, but now they’ve learned that keyboardist Ralph Shuckett is not physically up to doing the tour.

So, what do they do? They put out a public call for a keyboard player. The official statement from the band:

“While discussing a replacement keyboardist, it occurred to us that there may be someone out there who already knows the music and vocal parts and would like an opportunity to tour with us. So if you think you could fill those big shoes, we invite you to submit an audio and/or video sample to us.

“We are on a very fast track, so the decision will be made this week. Band rehearsals begin in 2 weeks, so you won’t have a lot of time to learn the set. If you still want to try out, send your submissions (mp3s or links) to info@panacea-ent.com. If audio-only, a photo would be nice but not required.”

Know any keyboard players who can play the Utopia stuff? Send them the link!

Once again I have perused FR and I have learned that Cambridge Analytica has always been a liberal organization, CA didn’t do anything with info from Facebook that everyone else wasn’t already doing-all perfectly legal, and Obama used CA for his campaigns.
The Stupid. It burns.

Interesting, since Cambridge Analytica didn’t exist when Obama ran for his second term.

Well, this is interesting. theintercept.com

AS A PRIVATE attorney in 2016, FBI director Chris Wray supervised a team of lawyers that informed the Justice Department that Blackwater founder Erik Prince had likely violated U.S. law while trying to sell secretly modified paramilitary attack aircraft to Azerbaijan’s military.

Wray and Robert Hur, now a senior Justice Department official, were both partners at the powerhouse law firm King & Spalding in 2015 when officials at Prince’s Hong Kong-based logistics company, Frontier Services Group, discovered suspicious activity by Prince over the proposed sale of the planes. Hur is currently the top lieutenant to Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general. At King & Spalding, he was one of the lead lawyers on the Prince investigation.

FSG retained King & Spalding to conduct a review of the company’s legal exposure to violations of U.S. law on weapons sales and the export of defense services to foreign governments and militaries. The attorneys concluded that Prince could potentially be charged with brokering defense articles without a license, according to a copy of the review obtained by The Intercept. The FSG-hired lawyers briefed the Obama Justice Department’s National Security Division in February 2016 on Prince’s activities and, a month later, FSG’s CEO notified the State Department that FSG intended to voluntarily report its possible violations of U.S. defense export laws.

“The potential violations stem principally from conduct of Mr. Prince, a U.S. person,” CEO Gregg Smith wrote to the director of the State Department’s Office of Defense Trade Controls, which regulates the export of defense articles and services, in a letter obtained by The Intercept.

I especially like this:

In the letter, Smith promised to provide the State Department with a copy of the findings of FSG’s internal investigation. In April 2016, The Intercept published two reports detailing Prince’s attempts to modify small aircraft for sale to militaries in Africa and the Middle East and a federal investigation into his alleged business ties to Chinese intelligence. According to a second letter dated April 13, 2016 and seen by The Intercept, Smith asked the State Department for an extension so FSG could review the report for more potential violations of U.S. defense export laws.

Read the whole thing. This fucker belongs in prison and should have been for a long time now.

Thanks for that info. That’s probably something many folks don’t know. Someone should tweet that to Wikileaks. Our side has to push back against untruths every chance we get.

I promise you that WikiLeaks is very well aware of that. Folks in the replies are giving him crap per usual. The major media needs to make sure they don’t give any of these gaslighting attempts more fuel.
