Dr Lizardo  Mar 19, 2018 • 9:04:06pm

It seems Cambridge Analytica has been slapped with an emergency data seizure order:

Following the segment on those secret recordings, UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said she would seek a warrant on Tuesday forcing Cambridge Analytica to hand over relevant data, after she said the company had refused to respond sufficiently to earlier requests.

Adding to a sense of drama, as Denham was on television saying she would apply for the warrant, a Channel 4 reporter posted outside the company’s headquarters reported that a team from Facebook was inside the building ensuring that their purloined data had been deleted.

That series of events sparked one senior politician, live on air, to outline his concern that the company could be deleting incriminating data as they were talking. Soon after, other journalists and politicians expressed their dismay at the two-day lead-time that a company that has just been shown to be unscrupulous and may have committed criminal acts was being given to delete any evidence of wrongdoing.

Less than an hour after the program aired, the authorities announced they had received a warrant to search Cambridge Analytica’s offices that very night.

What seems to be forgotten in this post Trump made was it was a response a Cruz PAC took out in Utah attacking Trump by plastering billboards all over Utah with Melania Trump’s lingerie photo shoot.

You might also recall thinking back to the GOP Primary that after that Cruz advert came out, Trump threatened Cruz by saying he would “spill the beans” on Heidi Cruz. His comparison photos of Heidi Cruz and Melania Trump were sent out days later.

I personally have no sympathy for either Ted or Heidi Cruz. Ted threw his own wife under a bus after that attack when he went to work for Trump’s campaign (and his father after Trump insinuated Cruz’s father had a hand in assassinating President Kennedy).

Heidi Cruz also sucked it up and said nothing, because being personally insulted by Trump and ignored by her husband were not as important as her husband gaining and maintaining power.

While I don’t care that Melania Trump was a nude model before the campaign, I don’t feel sorry for her either for being married to Donald (and she’s a birther too, or maybe that’s in her pre-nup agreement).

It’s a witch hunt!

Don’t rush to conclusions…

Rush - Witch Hunt - Dublin May 12 2011

The GOP will trot out witch hunt because they know that Mueller’s on to their entire act and the fact that there are already multiple indictments and guilty pleas shows that this is anything but a witch hunt.

They’re left with trying to attack Mueller directly by claiming he’s a partisan hack (he’s a registered Republican, and right wingers like Dinesh D’Souza de felon and Newt Gingrich were both vouching for his credentials - before he started racking up indictments).

Trump only knows how to react to events. He doesn’t know what he’s doing otherwise, and the chaos in the WH is entirely the result of his sheer incompetence and surrounding himself with sycophants who aren’t any more knowledgeable about events and policies/practices than he is.

His legal strategy is a mess mostly because he’s a mess and awful as a client. He wont listen to anyone who tells him what he doesn’t want to hear, which is why he’s in the position he’s in.

And it’s not going to get any better.

There will be more indictments.

There will be more guilty pleas.

And there will be people even closer to him than Manafort, Gates, or Flynn.

Throw in state criminal charges against people like Kushner and you’ve got a wide range of liabilities and criminal actions that have thrown all of Trumpworld into chaos, and thereby causing chaos for the operation of the US government.

We’re just days away from yet another government shutdown because none of the GOPers knows what they’re doing. GOP controls Congress and WH, and this would be the record smashing 3d shutdown of Trump’s presidency when the same party controls Congress and the WH. It’s unprecedented and never happened before in our nation’s history until Trump and this GOP decided that they would not govern or legislate.

They’ve made their mission to sabotage functioning government and to slash and burn the safety net by any means necessary and use the wreckage to fund their tax scam cuts.

Morning. Another day in America…

I was just checking my email at ATT/Yahoo and saw this.

Shooting Reported At Maryland High School, Authorities Say

A shooting has been reported at a high school in Maryland, authorities said Tuesday morning.

“There has been an incident at Great Mills High School,” the Sherriff’s office wrote on Twitter. “Parents please DO NOT respond to the school. Report to Leonardtown High School.”

There has been an incident at Great Mills High School. Parents please DO NOT respond to the school. Report to Leonardtown High School— St. Mary’s Sheriff (@firstsheriff) March 20, 2018

Eyewitnesses and students began posting firsthand accounts on Twitter Tuesday morning. “There was a loud sound and everyone started screaming and running,” one Twitter user, Mollie Davis, who identified herself as a student told a reporter on Twitter.

The school is about 70 miles south of Washington, D.C.

Hi Twitter. I am in Great Mills HS. My school is on a very real lockdown threat and there’s already someone possibly dead. Please pray for us.— Mollie Davis (@davism0llie) March 20, 2018

Unshaken Defiance  Mar 20, 2018 • 6:30:42am

Good Morning, or whatever is appropriate in your locale. Nat’l weather would like to have a word with SoCal residents and first responders.

It all starts today. The season`s largest storm will begin to
affect the Central Coast this morning and will then bring rain
(heavy at times) to the entire forecast area through early Friday
morning.
forecast.weather.gov
A 540 DM upper low is 1000 miles west of the Bay Area. This is an
atypical location for upper lows which are usually further east
and north. Due to the position of this low there is a very long
fetch of west flow extending from under the low to SRN CA. This
flow pattern has entrained a plume of subtropical moisture which
will advect of the area over the next 72 hours. This plume has
impressive precipitable water values with .5 to 1.0 inches just
off the coast and 1.5 to an impressive 2.0 inches in the heart of
the plume.

Current mdls consensus is that the axis of the plume and thus the
heaviest rainfall will be over western SBA county which is a
little further north that some earlier forecasts. If this is true
then LA county will not see the worst effects of this system. The
NAM is the outlier and it directs the plume at the City of SBA.

This kind of storm is classified as an Atmospheric River or AR.
The rainfall produced by an atmospheric river rarely of constant
intensity and quite frankly the current state of the art computer
modeling is incapable of forecasting these variations in
intensity. People in SBA and VTA and to a lesser degrees SLO and
LA county can expect to see rainfall rates ramping up and down
during this event.

The orientation of the AR is very important as it determines the
amount of the orthogonal component of the AR to coastal slopes. If
the AR lines up nearly parallel coastal slopes there will be
little enhanced precipitation. If…however…it is almost
perpendicular to the slopes the rainfall rates/amounts could be
three to 4 times as great as the values across the flatter
terrain
.

A good paragraph about the Trump campaign and CA:

There’s a lesson here for our understanding of the Trump presidency. Trump and his lackeys have been waging their own sort of psychological warfare on the American majority that abhors them. On the one hand, they act like idiots. On the other, they won, which makes it seem as if they must possess some sort of occult genius. With each day, however, it’s clearer that the secret of Trump’s success is cheating. He, and those around him, don’t have to be better than their opponents because they’re willing to be so much worse.

Holy shitsnacks… NWS has upped the snow totals in Bergen County:

Snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely before 7am, then snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. High near 32. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Breezy, with a north wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.

Wednesday NightSnow, mainly before 11pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 29. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. North wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.

That’s 11-19 inches.

Yes. Very few seem to understand - more importantly, want to understand - that any person or group that uses the threat of violence to change behavior is causing terrorism.

There is a legal definition of terrorism that requires knowing a motive. As we still have no idea who is doing it or why it is just a serial bombing. Maybe it is just a guy getting off on the press coverage. Maybe there was one intended target and the other bombings are to muddy up a link like the tylenol poisoning thing years ago. You can feel free to go ahead and call it terrorism, but law enforcement and government officials really shouldn’t.

The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives” (28 C.F.R. Section 0.85).

Billy Graham’s Daughter: We Deserve To Be Hit With A Nuclear Strike

If she were only talking about the evangelical grift industry, I might be inclined to agree. Alas, she wants to include the rest of us:

In keeping with her brother’s theme that the United States has a ‘sin problem’, Rev. Franklin Graham’s sister, Anne Graham Lotz, told Decision Magazine that God will send a nuclear strike to punish the country’s immorality.

Lotz says she believes severe judgment is coming and has partly begun. “And I’m talking about something like a nuclear strike, an earthquake that splits us in two, an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack that devastates our electrical grid. Something major that would be a game-changer for America, because we are so defiant and rebellious and idolatrous and immoral, and we know better.”

Here’s the full statement from FedEx:

FedEx has confirmed that a package detonated at a San Antonio FedEx Ground facility early this morning. We have also confirmed that the individual responsible also shipped a second package that has now been secured and turned over to law enforcement. We are thankful that there were no serious injuries from this criminal activity. We have provided law enforcement responsible for this investigation extensive evidence related to these packages and the individual that shipped them collected from our advanced technology security systems. The safety and security measures in place across the FedEx networks are designed to protect the safety of our people, customers and communities, and to assist law enforcement as appropriate.

Watched it every day after school even after I became “too old”. He just made me feel better. When The Boy was little he wasn’t much into Sesame Street…and not allowed to watch Barney…but Mister Rogers was absolutely his friend. Now The Boy is 30 and he’s passing it on to his girlfriend’s kid. Mister Rogers and Python. I did good.

That’s what it’s all about. One of the first books my brother got for his daughter was The Giving Tree, his old favorite.

Billy Graham’s Daughter: We Deserve To Be Hit With A Nuclear Strike

If she were only talking about the evangelical grift industry, I might be inclined to agree. Alas, she wants to include the rest of us:

Lotz says she believes severe judgment is coming and has partly begun. “And I’m talking about something like a nuclear strike, an earthquake that splits us in two, an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack that devastates our electrical grid. Something major that would be a game-changer for America, because we are so defiant and rebellious and idolatrous and immoral, and we know better.”

She’s talking about The Donald in that part I highlighted in bold type isn’t she?

That is the reality anyway, whether the Evangelicals believe it or not.

And probably actualy funny unlike what pases for conservative humor.

It’s all empathizing with someone practicing cruelty, and feeling that the person receiving cruelty deserves it.

I mean, that’s a thing everyone sometimes does when it appears in fiction, but their “humor” is all about actual people deserving whatever abuse is dropped on them.

It’s not a coincidence that conservative “media” stars are people who failed in the mainstream comedy world. You can look at their work and see how they can’t make a joke land…cruelty—not even clever enough to merit the term mockery—is easier, which is how they end up over in the demimonde.

(And, I suspect, because those failed comedians don’t feel that their material was shit, but are resentful that normal folks didn’t appreciate them, and that the latter is a sign of genius.)

Just after I took this, a girl stuffed a bunch of ballots into the box. It was quite spectacularly planned - they sent several annoying people to try to distract the observers by pretending to talk to me - but we still saw it. Police and poll workers pretending nothing happened

As if there was going to be any question of the outcome, but they felt compelled to swell the numbers…that is the sign of servile sickness.

This is going to be a very interesting case before the Supreme Court:

These centers ― “fake clinics,” as reproductive rights groups call them ― are the subject of the U.S. Supreme Court’s first abortion-related case under President Donald Trump. When arguments begin Tuesday, an attorney representing the Christian-run Pregnancy Care Clinic in El Cajon, California, will argue before the high court that California violated the clinic’s constitutional right to free speech by enacting a law that requires centers that are licensed as family planning facilities to notify women that the state offers free or low-cost birth control and abortion services. The law also requires pregnancy centers to disclose if they have no medical providers on staff.

Free speech doesn’t protect fraud. And I think there’s a fairly solid argument that these crisis pregnancy centers are perpetrating a fraud on the public by holding themselves out as something they clearly are not. On top of that, there’s this wrinkle:

The stakes are high for this case, which will be the first to indicate how the current Supreme Court may treat abortion rights for decades. And free speech questions are tricky: If the court strikes down this California law, the decision could also have implications for laws in red states that require doctors to convey state-sponsored anti-abortion messages.

For the record, I don’t think this case is about abortion per se, as the writer at HuffPo does. And beyond that, unless Gorsuch turns out to be a Souter-style sleeper on abortion rights, the make up of the Court probably hasn’t changed that much.

Peters resigns and drops a letter claiming that he’s ashamed of Fox and the toxic landscape there that he helped shape.

In particular, if I were to fisk this particular missive by Peters, I’d start by indicating that Peters was at the forefront of assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers.

As a Russia analyst for many years, it also has appalled me that hosts who made their reputations as super-patriots and who, justifiably, savaged President Obama for his duplicitous folly with Putin, now advance Putin’s agenda by making light of Russian penetration of our elections and the Trump campaign.

Peters was one of those same “patriots”.

To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit.

It was doing this all through the Obama years (and Clinton years before that) - attacking both Obama and Clinton because they were Democrats - assisting in the nonstop obstruction of Obama policies that included preventing Obama from having his Supreme Court nominee have his hearings and a confirmation vote.

The Fox News crowd cheered this subversion of the system and destruction of the comity in the Senate to give the president the ability to nominate and have advise and consent of the Senate. GOP made up bullshit claims to prevent Obama judicial nominees from being even considered.

The Mercers formed a new company last year which does the same sort of thing as Cambridge Analytica:

Cambridge Analytica executives created a company with the Executive Director & Deputy Chairman of Erik Prince’s Frontier Services Group

Filings on U.K. Companies House show that the two top executives at Cambridge Analytica are Directors of a company along with one of Erik Princes’ closest business partners.

On August 11, 2017, the company Emerdata Limited was incorporated in the U.K., and listed SCL Chairman Julian Wheatland as Director and 25-50% owner, and Cambridge Analytica Chief Data Officer, Alexander Tayler, was also listed as 25-50% owner. Both have since been removed as significant owners, but Wheatland is listed as an active Director, along with Alexander Nix, the Chief Executive of Cambridge Analytica.

The police officer is indeed a victim. He had to shoot someone he likely knew, and a child at that.

Regardless that the shooting was probably justified, he will have to live with killing a child for the rest of his life.

re: #588 dangerman

this is what i was getting at up the thread / this morning

if youre found to be doing official business on any other platform and youre not preserving the record (even paper) that in and of itself should be criminal

once its proven you crossed the line and have not preserved absolutely everything required, doesnt matter how many messages, what subject, over what period of time, it should be game over criminal.

destroying evidence doesnt make you innocent. its proof of guilt

Well, we saw how well that worked with Mike Pence using his AOL account (and his wife’s) to avoid Indiana sunshine laws. The press was mostly “meh” because IOKIYAR.

I archive every bit of my government E-mail and provide a copy to the village office once a year (or more often if it gets too unwieldly). Everyone in town knows I use my wife’s Website server, because the village government does not provide me with an official E-mail account. (If they did, I would use that.)

Says it’s Antifa but perhaps it is him

1. Probably predicting things after the fact.
2. If not, he’s sending them, trying to frame a group that wouldn’t be bombing families.

re: #600 JordanRules

Yup. Probably just another asshole screaming “LOOK AT ME while I blame a whole group of people I’m against for this and ignore that an antifa group would not be targeting black people!!!!”.
Probably.
Or, it’s him. In any event he needs to have a conversation with law enforcement, stat.

So Cynthia Nixon’s opponent called her an unqualified Lesbian. How does she know she’s not a qualified Lesbian? How does one become a qualified Lesbian? Is there a written test, or perhaps an oral test?

I have a new fantasy: We get Trumpy arrested, convicted and jailed on EMAILZ. That would be even better than getting him done on taxes. Both would be fine by me. Also, treason, perjury, possession, I. DO. NOT. CARE.

As Kruse points out, this particular email - proton mail - is used to make sure that messages get auto-deleted.

and since we cant know specifically what went through the account - because of it’s very nature, using it should be enough
