He hired a Disney star who is 22 and vaguely looks like his daughter for the Press Office. Other than that he’s been staying of the public eye lately … half a dozen aides piled on him.

Funny how conservative Christians never said this about President Obama …

Don’t they also argue that “Islam is a political movement not a religion, and therefore should not have I Amendment protection”? (Never mind political movements are protected by the I Amendment.)

Jerry Boykin: The Left Opposes Trump because They Can’t Accept That God’s Imprint Was On His Election (Right Wing Watch)

And no mainstream religious organisation (not individuals) will call this out.

The Family Research Council’s Jerry Boykin was the guest on today’s episode of “The Jim Bakker Show,” where he asserted that the left vehemently opposes President Trump because they refuse to accept that “there is God’s imprint” on his election.

After Lori Bakker applauded and proclaimed, “I love you, Mr. President,” Jim Bakker noted that “the other side is just as enthusiastic about killing him,” which prompted Boykin to declare that opposition to Trump is “diabolical” and “an absolute spiritual attack.”

“The first thing they did after he was elected was they came out with this, ‘Well, he didn’t win the popular vote, therefore he’s not a legitimate president,’” Boykin said. “That didn’t go very far, so then it was, ‘Well, the Russians gave it to him’ … So then it became, ‘Let’s kill him, let’s go over and blow up the White House, let’s hold up a bloody head of him and think it’s a joke, let’s assassinate him in a park play, let’s have actors calling for smacking him in the face.’ OK,that didn’t get too far, so where do you go from there? Well, let’s impeach him; that’s still on-going.”

I swear, it’s hard to tell whether gun nuts or conservative preachers are bigger snowflakes.

So this just happened in my subdivision…

Authorities respond to suspected human smuggling activity at Phoenix house
fox10phoenix.com

My sister and I live in this gated community. I was not home this morning, but she was and around 7:30am a strange man knocked on the door. She opened it to find a disheveled gentleman who was barefoot and could barely speak English. He seemed to be asking for help and saying someone had hurt him. She was freaked out and said she couldn’t help. She then called our Brother-in-Law to come over. She could hear the gentleman outside talking to someone but couldn’t tell what was going on. About 12 minutes later my BIL shows up and catches a glimpse of the gentleman going into our neighbors backyard. Police eventually show up and my sister goes to work.
About 8 hours later we both return home. Helicopter overhead and local police have some of the streets in our sub blocked off. Neighbors were milling about and sharing stories. News crews were here.
Apparently the gentleman had walked into an open house this morning too and encountered one of our neighbors, a lady home alone with her baby. She could speak Spanish though and he said he was being held captive, had been beaten and their families were being called for ransom. The lady was freaked out but kept calm and he left.
This evening we saw person after person being loaded into the DHS “tour like” bus. Someone reported it was 32 people in the house, including children.
I took some pics of the bus, but I guess I need to resize them because they won’t load. What a crazy, weird and sad night.

I came close to leaving it blank in the last election. I voted for President and Vice-President (all the rest of the positions were Republicans only running). On the local village board ballot I voted for one write-in candidate (she won) of the two seats I could vote for.

Howard Stern’s Blunt Advice For Trump: ‘Get The F**k Out Of There, Man’ (caution for autoplay video because Huffington Post does not conform to accepted Web design practices)

Howard Stern said he was offended when he learned that President Donald Trump is calling old friends for advice, but hasn’t reached out to him.

“He’s never once called me and asked for advice,” Stern said. “Which kind of got me a little upset.”

If Trump did reach out the “King of All Media,” he would get some pretty blunt suggestions.

“My advice would be, like, get the fuck out of there, man,” Stern said on his Sirius XM radio show on Tuesday, according to The Hill. “Why do you need that for? Go back to Mar-a-Lago and hang.”

“Just give it over to (vice president Mike) Pence,” he added. “Let him do his thing.”

Stern supported Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016, but has called Trump ― a frequent guest over the years ― a friend.

Not to mention that Nixon enjoyed better approval ratings than Trump has at any time in his presidency. While Nixon was personally unlikable, his presidency was treated fairly ambivalently until the full weight of Watergate came down on his head. It was only when his approval bottomed out that the GOP abandoned him like rats from a sinking ship.

Sadly, it feels like it needs to be 5 times bigger just to actually seed through, because Trump has skated away on several dozen scandals that would have sunk almost any other politician, especially any sort of Dem politician. Case in point:

It literally seems like any and all Trump sins get forgiven or forgotten literally on the basis of ‘But Her Emails’. That is almost all it takes to let Trump get away with anything short of literal murder, and he could probably get away with that too. Hell, he bragged about that very fact, remember.

That’s why I’m worried about the results of this sort of thing: Trump has literal cultish, messianic devotion to him that Nixon never had. And it’s an extension to the literal cultish, messianic devotion the GOP as a whole has, especially from our own media which repeatedly gets bashed by the GOP and treated like the degradation of all things, and continually responds by scraping and promising to stop treating conservatives so bad.

The thing about cults is they tend to fall apart once it becomes clear that the cult leader is a charlatan. If the cult members have the least bit of doubt in the guy at the top, then that doubt grows and spreads until the congregation can no longer sustain its devotion. Eventually the cult either falls apart or destroys itself in a final act of suicidal activity brought on by the leader. If the GOP takes a walloping in November, particularly if a lot of those who fall are seen as closely aligned to Trump, then the cult of personality built around him will begin to fall apart. Such that when he’s gone, they’ll immediately renounce him and insist that his crimes are solely limited to him and the party totally blameless.

It is for all those reasons and more that I argue conservatism at its core is a religion.

Nixon when he left office had a corps of supporters around what is now known as the Keyes Constant.

Trump, whether he is removed, resigns, or completes his term, will have the same.

Wasn’t Hannah Montana her character’s name?

Hannah Montana was the name of the show and her character’s name. Miley Ray Cyrus was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, so says Wikipedia.

Her birth name, Destiny Hope, reflects her parents’ belief that she would accomplish great things, and she was given the nickname “Smiley”, later shortened to “Miley”, because she often smiled as an infant.[4] She changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus; her middle name honors her grandfather, Democratic politician Ronald Ray Cyrus.

They’re running a Nazi for a seat in Illinois. While people keep saying that’s a Democratic-leaning district where he has little chance, it’s that sort of attitude that depresses liberal voter turnout (we’ve already got this, &c).

Trump had little (but not no) chance as well.

It is just that I cannot agree with the way that most modern “conservatives” want to interpret or seek to implement these values.

Homeland Security is a newish thing, being formed during the GWB admin. Folded into it were a bunch of already existing agencies, including FEMA, Coast Guard, ICE, Border Patrol, Customs, Secret Service, etc.

Which turned out to be a bad idea; FEMA later got pulled out became its own agency again, Secret Service used to be better at their jobs when they were part of Treasury, etc.

But ICE (aka “la migra”) has been a real thing for my entire life, and Spanish-speaking people have always been afraid of them.

ICE can never be any better than the body of laws and regulations it is based on. And what we have is a patchwork of ineffective measures (threats, detention and deportation) that are applied inconsistently, and often unjustly or even inhumanely.

Morning!

I see where Stormy’s lawyer is really messing with Trump now calling for him and lawyer Cohen to be deposed.

This is going to get nasty. Michael Avenatti is doing a Trump on Trump and Cohen. He’s not just threatening them, he is carrying it through.

And speaking of nasty. The primary race for Ohio Governor to replace John Kasich is getting nasty too. It’s between Mike Dewine and Mary Taylor.

As both BeachDem and I have posted before DeWine has had just about every freaking Ohio political office in his career. I’d love to see him defeated because this may be his last run.

Mary Taylor is Lieutenant Governor of Ohio. She is just another Ohio Republican running for every office she can.

Currently they have both decided to go low and attack each other. RIght now DeWine is ahead of Taylor and has up to now ignored her.

Here are the current commercials. What I am hoping is people get sick of this crap and it hurts the Republicans. And it is also telling a Republican (Taylor) is running against another Republican (DeWine) and saying their opposition isn’t Trump enough. That may be a trend in other Republican races.

Who is the Dem favorite? I know Kucinich is running but he can’t be the front runner.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. Expect Trump to crow about a new trade deal between the US and South Korea.

First, some background. The US entered into a free trade agreement with South Korea under Obama.

During campaign, Trump said he’d repeal it and replace it with a new deal.

He never really got off that talking point. Trade negotiators finally did reach a deal yesterday, and it involves South Korea reducing steel imports to the US by 30% and there wont be tariffs imposed. At same time, there were some adjustments on cars imported to South Korea.

Trump’s going to spin this as a win, and yet American consumers are going to pay more for steel. It’s not going to suddenly (or even over a few years) create new steel jobs.

And there are far more consumers than there are workers in steel industry, so it’s a net negative IMO.

Art, Frothy was a creation of Richard Mellon Scaife. Scaife poured a lot of cash into Frothy’s campaign to unseat Democrat Doug Walgreen. From there the 1994 midterms provided lots of Clinton hate that propelled Frothy into the Senate. In 2000 there was an nasty Democratic primary where a lot of blood was spilled against Democrat Ron Klink and that let Frothy get in again.

Bob Casey beat Frothy in 2006 by double digits by hammering away at Frothy not living in PA. Bob also used TV ads with real couples (including an interracial couple because Frothy shot his mouth off about Gawd not liking that).

Ross Perot is no Donald Trump or Ralph Nader. He actually knew how to run a company and his TV ads were the best ads for a candidate. He earned his wealth rather than inheriting it and he was attune with the modern technology of the time. Of course, he was crazy but he probably wouldn’t have been the worst president we ever had.

Well, certainly not at this point.

Humphrey reminded me to tell about what I saw when I opened the kitchen blind this morning. A deer face looking at me. I swear it was only 4’ separating our faces, the width of a sidewalk plus my distance from the window. I always thought all those deer I see around here were whitetails, but now I think maybe mule deer. Those ears were HUGE. And the tail, while it was white, looked more like the mule deer tail. Four were in the driveway, trimming the weeds. No antlers. I think it was 2 does and 2 yearling fawns.

Again, are we talking about legal or illegal immigrants here? And then there is the legal gray area of children who came here illegally but as minors, and therefore cannot be said to have committed a crime in doing so.

WE NEED COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION REFORM and not just these grandstanding measures.

Houston officer kills unarmed man walking with trousers down

Police dashcam video shows Danny Ray Thomas, 34, walking towards the officer on a road in Houston, Texas, last Thursday before a gunshot rings out.

Deputy Cameron Brewer repeatedly shouts “get down on the ground” before firing. Both the officer and victim are black.

Mr Thomas’ family say he suffered from depression after his children died…

According to relatives, Mr Thomas’ partner murdered his two children in 2016.

She is awaiting trial for the deaths, which happened while Mr Thomas was in prison serving a three-year drug-related sentence.

Getting over a nasty case of food poisoning. I was basically laid up at home since Sunday and only came back in to work today. Still not 100%, but still way better than I had been.

Eating is almost as dangerous as not eating.

I hope it all goes well from here on.

re: #321 Dr Lizardo

On the other hand, she could be getting ahead of the curve.

Remember, Coulter was one of the very first to wholeheartedly support Trump - and say he’d win - back in the primaries when he was still regarded as a novelty candidate.

If Trump’s presidency ends in disaster, she’ll be ahead of the curve again by denouncing Trump…..and just you wait and see, the GOP will denounce Trump even more vociferously than they denounced W back in the day.

As vile as she is…….she’s not stupid. She has a good instinct for detecting which way the political winds are blowing.

Maybe so, but if Trump goes down, the crazy base of the GOP, who also are Coulter fans, are going to hold her as one of the people responsible. She may have a good feel for reading the political tea leaves, but that will not matter to anyone angry their Trump was damaged.

I think the way the Republicans have stayed away from attacking Trump too much is an indication they all know taking Trump down is going to cost.

It will take at least two election cycles to make wingnuts forget what happened to Trump.

The cop felt threatened by the suspect’s dark skin, so even though he could’ve tasered the man, he won’t be indicted, much less convicted.

BBC article indicates that the cop was also black…curiouser and curiouser

It’s training. (And we can’t be sure that this training in also implanting biases in trainees’ mindsets).

Better question would be, do you really want to know that?

That’s kinda like the “if it wasn’t for my horse, I wouldn’t have spent that year in college” story, you need to tell to to someone else, or you’ll end up with an aneurysm.

And we know he has a cell phone. Doesn’t that give them justification to open fire?

re: #299 Backwoods_Sleuth

David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and…

actually, being turned by 4 UC’s isn’t like 4 different colleges rejected him; the University of California has pretty high standards for non-Californians. He got into a Cal State, a Cal Poly, and a uni in his own home state. He obviously knew he wasn’t an automatic acceptance, or he wouldn’t have applied to 7 schools.

The UC’s, all ten campuses combined, take approx 70,000 freshmen every year; more than 60% of those slots are guaranteed to Californians who’ve graduated in the top 12% of their class. For an out-of-stater to get in is almost as difficult as an Ivy.
