Process this fact, because right now the President is tearing out his wispy hair poof…

There’s a meaningful chance Robert Mueller’s team now has all of the many, many NDAs Trump had with his many, many women.

And Trump’s tax returns.

And all the materials that Stormy handed over to comply with the NDA - letters, photos, maybe (gag) video.

31

Wouldn’t Mueller already have the tax returns?

Anyway, yes, the NDAs, all of them possibly.

And not just with the women.

There may be much more interesting NDAs lurking in the files.

Airtight.

We don’t know when he conducts interviews with people until after the fact. He doesn’t let people know that he’s conducting searches until after they’re well in progress.

Trump’s got no way to combat this except to try and claim Mueller’s some Democratic party operative (he’s a GOPer who got the Newt stamp of approval, right until Mueller started delivering indictments and guilty pleas).

Ingraham has a law degree, so presumably she knows about the crime-fraud exception to the attorney-client privilege. I’m assuming there is some significance to the fact that this stuff was seized as part of the service of a search warrant. Knowing that raiding an attorney’s properties is a high-risk endeavor that could backfire badly if done wrong, I’d have to assume that the search warrant is quite specific on what it’s looking for, and getting such a search warrant from a judge (who is, or was, a practicing attorney) would not be easy if it wasn’t for a sound cause.

As all the twitter JDs go scrambling for the crime-fraud exception as to how Mueller intends to use the windfall of info he’s just seized and what he intends to do to get Cohen talking about his favorite subject - Trump.

A reminder. This Cohen office search is being reported as not part of the Mueller investigation. There seems to be info that Mueller shared with New York prosecutors and is part of the Stormy Daniels investigation only…at this time.

And part of that may have to do with Mueller staying away from this to not run into any issues with his own investigations. It could keep Trump from further considering firing Rosenstein…and then having Mueller fired. Trump is going to try to sell this as overreach and he may not be able to.

And, is that info to help Avenatti’s case because it could be related to Trump financial records (see IRS tax forms).

It appears to be a further squeeze on Cohen to blow-up and turn on Trump. Mueller sees benefits in Avenatti taking on Cohen and Trump.

Of course Mueller followed procedure, and apparently what he had on Cohen yesterday was (a) criminal; (b) apparently unrelated to Russia; and (c) at least not clearly involving the Trump Presidential campaign.

However, if the Feds in New York find anything to contradict (b) or (c), I suspect they will be on the phone to Mueller’s people, one of whom will take the next flight unless he is already drinking coffee next door.

Probably not.

Next question?

My thinking is that the longer Trump waited, and continues to wait, to fire Mueller, the worse it gets for him if he does. Before the first indictments, he might have gotten the GOP to go along with arguing there was no ‘there’ there. Now, as it gets closer and closer to him, it becomes harder to argue that it’s not blatant obstruction.

He said it can’t be something as minor (in this case) as campaign finance rules, etc.

I think money laundering will have been chosen as the next crime to openly know about and to get closer to Trump as it’s easy to explain the crime to the the public:

* if you show money moving around.
* If you have a co-conspirator who has flipped they will plead guilty and can explain to the jury (and more importantly the public), how it was a crime.
* Having a single document signed by Cohen that shows guilt.

There’s no talking points around whether it was crime or not, and the public can see it’s a large amount of money, which makes (hopefully) most Republicans see that the leaders of their party are corrupt and need to be removed.

Mueller and his now extended team all know that there is a massive political angle to these crimes. Convincing the public that Trump and Cohen are guilty is almost as important to convincing a jury that he’s guilty, if not more so.

It’s not like the FBI will have forgotten the Oklahoma City bombing.

Not a single one of them. Not even the ones who are leaving or dying.

Well, many said that firing anyone to get to Mueller to have him fired would be a Constitutional Crisis and could lead to impeachment filings.

So, any way this goes down it is going to hurt the GOP.

Are they all prepared to see themselves the minority party in 2018?

I have assumed that Trump has been laundering money for decades, with the assistance of his consigliere. Whenever I say to my Trump worshipping brother that Trump was involved with the mob, his reaction was: “who cares” — that’s how you had to do real estate business in NY. So another characteristic of Trump supporters, they care nothing about the law or ethics and do not consider mob affiliations a possible disqualifier for the presidency.

It’s probably not that unusual among the upper middle class for one’s personal attorney to transfer $130,000 or some other trivial amount of petty cash to another party and forget to mention it to their client.

If people hate us more, it’s usually because we tell them the truth: you’re not getting a multimillion dollar settlement, litigation doesn’t work like on TV where it’s wrapped up neatly in a day or two, it’s a long messy process that sometimes you lose on and no amount of righteous indignation is going to change that fact. More likely everyone is going to be pissed off with the settlement and it’s going to be the least bad outcome.

Apparently Cohen is very rich (per Josh Marshall, I think). Inquiring minds might want to know what proportion of that came from getting on the ground floor of various enterprises (who knows, maybe they even involved the laundering of money) rather than actual payments client-to-lawyer.

Even without a specifically legal background, surely Donald Trump knows that there are these things called “warrants” that have to signed off on by a judge, and that (despite what one sees on TV) the “break-in” is likely to have been far less dramatic than battering-rams and SWAT shields at 3:00am?

He thought he had one card left to play - whether to co-operate or not with Mueller.

But Mueller can almost certainly prosecute Trump without Manafort’s help now.

Which means Manafort has no move left to play.

I’m going to let it play out. It’s a big change in the dynamics kind of day. And yes, something big is going to happen. Everyone is on this story big time. They all see it is big. They all know it is a huge pressure point.

There seems to be times when saying something could turn positive is still met with “nope” it is all going to go bad. I just do not think like that. So sometimes it is best to watch.

I completely agree with you. I wasn’t disagreeing with that. At all. I just think it’s likely trump doesn’t understand. Anything. That was the only point I was making. 🙂

He likely made the “one-time offer” to Pauly: Roll on Trump and the charges will be busted do such that he only does less than 2 years in a federal pen, followed by a few years probation. The ankle monitor comes off, he’ll get his passport back after his probation ends, and his accounts will be unfrozen (barring any that Mueller can prove are filled with ill-gotten loot). But once he turns down the offer, that’s it, then the screws really get tightened.

Manafort thought that it was a bluff, that his testimony and evidence would be too valuable to Mueller that threats of prosecution were “empty.” Recent events have likely awakened him to the reality that he’s going to prison for a very long time.

That was never the point in my comment. Go back and read them. I was only talking about Trump being in a tough spot with today’s news. What has that got to do with his own understanding?

And how the Cohen searches are going to mess him up and hopefully he will do something dumb to really hurt his case.

Also my points are how the GOP is now being boxed in and they have to deal with it Trump realistically and depending how they do it, it could hurt them politically.

Actually I am not really saying much about Trump as more of how today changes everything around him. He can be as addled and ignorant as he wants. It is only going to hurt him and it doesn’t mean anything to prosecutors.

As a reminder, a nationwide protest is planned if Robert Mueller is fired:

act.moveon.org

The Website includes a map to search by Zip Code, and a place to create an event if none is near you.

Donald Trump is publicly considering firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the person leading the Department of Justice investigation of possible criminal actions by Donald Trump and members of his presidential campaign, as well as the efforts to conceal those activities.

It’s also possible that, rather than firing Mueller, Trump will obstruct Mueller’s investigation by issuing blanket pardons of key figures being investigated, firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein (the person overseeing Mueller), or taking other actions to prevent the investigation from being conducted freely.

Any one of these actions would create a constitutional crisis for our country. It would demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump.

Our response in the hours following a power grab will dictate what happens next and whether Congress—the only body with the constitutional power and obligation to rein Trump in from his rampage—will do anything to stand up to him.

That’s why we’re preparing to hold emergency “Nobody is Above the Law” rallies around the country, in the event they are needed.

The big one to watch is Paul Ryan. He hasn’t even declared he is running yet has he?

Did a search to find out…saw this new article from Politico. I am keeping in mind it is Politico.

Politico - The race to replace Paul Ryan is on

Two top members of Paul Ryan’s leadership team, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Majority Whip Steve Scalise, have begun angling for his job in the event the speaker calls it quits after the election.

They’re closely monitoring the moves of the other and quietly courting Republicans who could help either of them clinch the top post, according to 20 GOP lawmakers and aides interviewed for this report.

Neither is actively rounding up votes at this point, and both downplayed the possibility of a looming clash. Scalise said in an interview that he would not challenge McCarthy for speaker — “I’m not running against Kevin for anything,” he told POLITICO — while McCarthy said he’s focused solely on keeping the House in November and pursuing President Donald Trump’s agenda.

But Scalise also expressed interest in leading the conference someday — remarks that only intensified simmering speculation in GOP circles about his intentions. Adding to the intrigue, some of Scalise’s allies have urged him to be ready should McCarthy falls short for speaker, as he did in 2015. And some of McCarthy’s allies discount Scalise’s vows not to mount a direct challenge, noting Scalise’s willingness to attempt to leapfrog more senior Republicans in the past.

Full Transcript of Trump Pool Spray Rant on Cohen FBI Raid | Talking Points Memo

A veritable cornucopia of bad sentence structure and bad craziness.

re: #76 ObserverArt

Mueller’s investigation continues. The FBI is investigating crimes and potential crimes. They find more evidence of criminal wrongdoing, and that gets spun off.

Mueller’s tasked out some of the work to the SDNY - a federal prosecutor in Manhattan. That’s entirely normal and proper.

If some of this ends up being an entirely separate investigation into Trump-Cohen-Daniels wrongdoing, that’s on Cohen and Trump. It’s what happens when you break laws and prosecutors start digging in to the crime fraud exception to see what was really going on.

None of this is good news for Cohen, let alone Trump.

re: #258 Stanley Sea

That he kept saying that the special council FOUND no collusion is amazing.

The report is not out.

He’s such a blatant liar.

This is what I believe MsJ and others have been saying.

He doesn’t know the difference between a sketchy incomplete report from one (Republican) side of the House Investigation Committee and Mueller’s Investigation and The Senate Investigation.

Also, if it was all true as reported, he has been protected from the truth by his lawyers by them either keeping the facts from him, or outright deception.

So he may be saying only what his limited mind understands.

Not going to help him. It is what it is!

Yeah, the court isn’t going to look favorably on that.

So I sat through “Judge” Napolitano on Bill Hemmer’s Fox show this evening. The judge started to make a devastating case: Mueller found something, but let’s be clear, he can’t pursue it; it was at the level that a judge in SDNY approved. Is this big? asked Hemmer. Yes and no! says the judge. It’s probably about the $130K and what Cohen told the bank, so it’s bank fraud. [Big lean and implication time]: if so this has nothing to do with Trump and will be “seismic” in Trump’s response! [wink wink, fire Mueller]

Trump’s rant after raid on his lawyer shows urgent need to #ProtectMueller - now. Republican colleagues and all of Congress must stand up against possible interference. No excuse for silence.

7:22 PM - Apr 9, 2018

Yep, the pressure is on DC. People are watching and the whole Republican party is on the hot seat.

I bet the DC buzz is huge tonight, and the bars are busy.

And I also bet Mueller and the FBI are also watching. There will be people in panic mode and maybe they do dumb stuff trying to hide stuff, buy people off, loose talk, etc.

297
scottslemmons  Apr 9, 2018 • 5:32:16pm

I’m at the point where I suspect that everyone in conservative media (possibly including the secretarial and custodial staff), every Republican Congressman, and maybe a few state level legislators have incriminating emails with Russians filed safely away in Mueller’s files. Every time I hear about one of them ranting about firing Mueller, I half-suspect the subtext is “Fire him before he gets around to prosecuting me for treason.”

Absolutely. It would have been “please turn over your documents” at most levels. This is serious. Stormy Daniel’s lawyer on Ari Melber’s show through phone sounded deflated. It might be a good thing for his client, but he sounded scared for Cohen as if this were way beyond what they were charging.

I would imagine her lawyer was hoping to either have Trump/Cohen settle for a large undisclosed sum, or to gain a lot of fame through their trial.

Her story is very likely to be push to the background. It’s possible that her court case might not even proceed until Trump and Cohen aren’t facing criminal prosecution.

Yeah, right. Trump IS a “law and order President” in the classic Republican sense of the term (and one his base understands intuitively). All for upholding “The Law” as far as it applies to bashing non-whites (figuratively or literally, same difference) to remind them of their “place” in America: with occasional equal-opportunity bashing of any “leftist” agitation whenever it gets too public.

Ethics in government, though? Meh. Victimless crimes, just hardball politics, witch-hunt hysteria, etc. etc…..

To which, I will remind y’all, that WWE/McMahon paid $5 million, or possibly $6 million, over the years.

All for a few appearances by Trump in a couple of stories, one was the big Wrestlemania angle many years ago, the other the buy-out story a few years.

If WWE did that, how many of Trump’s other connections also did likewise, giving Trump’s “foundation” millions of dollars for token uses of his appearances, name, or connections?

And the pont is, the “foundation” does things like buy paintings of Trump. Perhaps it does some good work here or there, but I’ve not seen anyone report on that.

The important thing to remember is that Trump’s connections are not necessarily to who we all think as the bad guys. Rupert Murdoch simply makes money off of Trump. Trump’s friends include the inner circle of Comcast/NBCU, various real estate moguls, etc.

This gets back to the forced outrage over the Clinton Foundation. Wingnuts went wild with claims about the illegalities, though if one looks at what the Clinton Foundation actually does, it is the usual good works one expects of non-profits.

Meanwhile, Trump’s “foundation” is so sketchy that he keeps saying he’s going to dissolve it:

I swear that the media needs to put every Trump presser/statement on time delay to give them a chance to fact check it - and to lead with:

Trump lies about X.

Because that’s what he does all the time. He lies about everything, no matter how trivial or consequential. It’s time the media stops regurgitating what he says verbatim and instead lead with the real news: he’s lying again and again, and here’s what he lied about.

That’s how you cover Trump. You don’t report Trump statement X, and then wait until hours later to fact-check his baffling BS.

And that goes for the Sanders pressers too. They’re lie-fests and the WH press corps needs to start treating her as a liar and tearing her a new one every single day.

I have an official FBI Guide to Subversive Organizations booklet from 1952. Besides known fronts, like the World Peace Council and the Communist Party (duh), it lists various artists’ groups, local civil liberties orgs (though not the ACLU itself), “negro” activists, various unions, and many others.
Today it would start with Fox News and work its way through the NRA, the Republican Party, the Birch Society, and a whole zoo of evangelical gun cults.

Would it though? I feel like BLM, SPLC (still, after all these years), orgs to help Dreamers, immigrants, Native folks, Climate Change orgs etc might still populate that list.
The FBI is still the FBI, actual threat to the nation not withstanding. They are and should be all in on that but I’m not sold on them having vanquished all their demons.

From Clarence Thomas’s wife Ginny:

Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, is sharing on her Facebook page a series of posts critical of the survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting, who have become vocal advocates for gun control.

Thomas shared a post Monday that included a pile of shoes from people killed during the Holocaust. The post was directed at students who walked out their classrooms last month to protest gun violence.

“To all the kids that walked out of school to protest guns. These are the shoes of Jews that gave up their firearms to Hitler. They were led into gas chambers, murdered and buried in mass graves. Pick up a history book and you’ll realize what happens when u give up freedoms and why we have them,” the post said.
Another post Thomas shared specifically went after Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg. Along with the post, Thomas wrote: “So, just wondering, who got the permits and paid for buses for this YOUTH march?”

A fact Trump used to manipulate his crowds.

However, as it becomes more clear that Trump may in the end be the biggest loser of all, the hate-right will have to make a choice of whether to stay with their loser or not.

FBI Raid Ignites Trumps Rage
It was a photo-op meant to portray President Donald Trump at his most commanding: Flanked by senior military leaders, Trump was there to plot America’s response to a suspected chemical gas attack in Syria.
Instead, his boiling display in the White House Cabinet Room on Monday evening only served to underscore the President’s most visible weakness: his ambient rage over Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

A toast to all who keep pushing Trumps buttons and driving him insane in his own vitriol

After the weekend news about the UPR, the UPR retirement system responded (Google Translate). One of the most shocking numbers I see is that, 3/4 of the UPR workforce can retire soon. Combined with the hiring freeze that the university has self inflicted in the last 8 to 10 years, the effects can be devastating.

Grandma knew how to make chocolate spaghetti that she served with marshmallow sauce, sprinkled toasted coconut and topped with a couple maraschino cherries. If I had only gotten her recipe written down!

Google knows everything. A search revealed several chocolate pasta recipes, generally similar to this one
You could do your own variation.

Has any Republican Congressperson said anything at all about today’s unholy “raid” on Cohen’s office, etc? I have not heard or seen anything. Anyone?

As outrageous as this is being made out to be by Fox News and some other wingnuts, you’d think a Cruz, Rubio, King, Jordan, Grassley….anyone…would be saying this is out of line, illegal, unethical???

Hmmm. Maybe not so out of line after all. Maybe those Republicans know this is a sea change, especially when they see Trump’s comments once he heard and was asked if he wanted to fire Mueller.

They may cater to Trump’s base, but now they are up against real law and the Constitution. They are looking at their futures.

I’m thinking they are quiet because they are all in various pow-wows in DC figuring out what to do now.

Nothing. Complicit & they will pay the price.

And we all have to remember, Mueller is our Manhattan project, a big massive undertaking, that might bring Trump down, but we have to be prepared for other possibilities. We also have to be cognizant that there’s going to be a long period afterward that’s going to require our attention.

Hi all. Back from a three week sojourn to the UK. Great trip to visit family and then up to Scotland for the Edinburgh Harp Festival plus a couple of days in Glasgow.

The weather was just shit. On Wednesday in Edinburgh we had two inches of slush and two inches of snow covering it because it was falling faster than it was melting. No footwear can handle it, except for Wellies, which we didn’t bring.

Saw Chris Stout and Catriona McKay that night doing their new album “Bare Knuckle” live.

Find it. Buy it. They have deconstructed Scottish Trad music and built it into something unique and truly exciting. Fierce stuff.

I didn’t think that there could be a more hated politician than tRump, but Theresa May is right up there in the UK. And Boris Johnson is more loathed than May.

DUDE! I was wondering. You’re lucky. You took three weeks off from the internet meat grinder. I just took *3 days* off and am back as of today. You lucky fuck!

Glad to see your dreck here again! Welcome back!
