Carlos Lozada:

“…For all his contempt for Trump — he decries “the forest fire that is the Trump presidency” — Comey concludes that the president’s behavior, while disturbing and dangerous, “may fall short of being illegal.” But he’s not here as a lawyer or investigator, this is Comey the philosopher. He laments Trump’s lack of self-reflection or self-awareness. “Listening to others who disagree with me and are willing to criticize me is essential to piercing the seduction of certainty,” Comey writes. “Doubt, I’ve learned, is wisdom… . Those leaders who never think they are wrong, who never question their judgments or perspectives, are a danger to the organizations and people they lead.”

Trump is the most severe example of that tendency in this book. But he is not the only one.”

(while not noting at the time there was already an investigation into Donald Trump’s campaign)

Mr. Comey complaining he felt alone and mistreated because he put his thumb on the political scale? Cry me a river.

The American Physical Society is having their annual meeting in Columbus this weekend, and for some reason I have the business meeting video playing in the background.

Anyway, the DC Affairs guy (i.e., their lobbying arm) comes up and gives some stats, and presents this slide on graduate applications to physics programs in the US, from foreign applications:

He claims he’s spoken with his colleagues in other science professional societies and they are noticing the same thing.

The speaker doesn’t say so, but the implication is clear, given he brought up that these declines are not just showing declines from traditional Muslim countries - that Trump’s xenophobia is driving away graduate students from other countries.

Well that was an interesting hour. George S did a good job with the interview, I think. He didn’t softball. I found Comey’s reasoning WRT the fateful Hillary letter so much bullshit but he seemed sincere in his belief that he did the right thing, doubling down that he would do it again even knowing the outcome. I also saw a man who is always right - if you don’t believe it just ask him. The only times he agreed to question anything he said or did was when GS asked his if his answers to Trump’s loyalty and Flynn things were appropriate and Comey gave a shrugging eh, maybe coulda done better.

Ultimately, Comey came off looking real good and Trump real bad. Comey came off as professional, forthcoming, and trust-worthy IMO.

Remember, these are applications.

It’s too early to assess the impact on the actual admissions.

However, I think it is inevitable that either the number of foreign students will go down, or, if there are quotas to keep up the fraction of foreign students then the possibility that the quality of the students will decrease.

Whats the time period to wait after the death of R Lee Emery to start pointing out that that toward the end he turened into your typical crazy old person with the crazy beliefs about “liberal hollywood” vast left wing conspiracy to blackball him?

foxnews.com

“I’ve had a very fruitful career. I’ve done over 70 feature films,” Gunny told FOX411. “I’ve done over 200 episodes of [‘GunnyTime’]… and then [Hollywood] found out that I’m a Conservative.”

Actually, he corrected, “I’m an Independent, but I said something bad about the president. I had something unsavory to say about the president’s administration, and even though I did vote for him the first time around, I was blackballed.”

Gunny, who is an NRA board member, explained that his association with the organization and his disapproval of President Obama cost him acting jobs.

“Do you realize I have not done a movie in five to six years? Why? Because I was totally blackballed by the… liberals in Hollywood,” he alleged. “They can destroy you. They’re hateful people [who] don’t just not like you, they want to take away your livelihood… that’s why I live up in the desert on a dirt road… I don’t have to put up with their crap.”

He was in some good movies, but I have no use for him in the real world for him and his typical rwnj views.

Last Sunday whilst skiing at Snowmass I faceplanted in super-wet snow pretty hard, I’m glad I was able to ski away uninjured, though I definitely tweaked my right shoulder and arm. We’re talkin’ 30+ m.p.h. to zero in about ten feet. I hit a bad patch of slush and down I went face first like a sack of potatoes. My thinking at the time was “you haven’t crashed spectacularly (years, maybe?) in quite sometime, this had to happen. It’s karma.” It was witnessed by a man and his child who were about 25 feet away. I got up and said “I’m okay” after doing the limb check and dad says “That was gnarly, dude!”

True story.

Interesting Times  Apr 15, 2018 • 8:43:57pm

THIS THIS THIS:

Everything I’ve been trying to say re Democratic messaging, though this article explains it better than I ever could:

Each respondent was shown two flyers. The first used classic dog whistling, taken from a real Republican mailer now circulating in Minnesota. Arguing for more tax cuts, an unnamed candidate describes his opponents as “demanding more sanctuary cities for criminal and illegal aliens.”

From there, half the respondents were shown a flyer detailing a progressive populist agenda silent on race - the settled wisdom of the class-left. The other half were shown a race-class narrative that describes how certain politicians use racial division to cleave us from each other in order to gain and hold economic power.

The test was over which narrative - the one that avoids race or the one that uses race to explain the origins of economic inequality - could more effectively beat real Republican messaging. Among white respondents, a majority agreed with the initial dog whistle script. When these respondents were shown the class-only progressive flyer…55% stuck with the racially divisive politician, and 44% shifted to the progressive candidate.

But for those shown the race-class message the numbers flipped. Only 43% stayed with the conservative candidate while 57% switched to the progressive who addressed race and class together. Put bluntly, the race-class message was significantly more effective at generating progressive votes than the class-only script. And this was among white voters initially keen on the divisive message.

And what, might you ask, was the race-class message they used in the experimental flyers?

The race-class flyer says “Whether white, black, or brown, 5th generation or newcomer, we all want to build a better future for our children. My opponent says some families have value, while others don’t count. He wants to pit us against each other in order to gain power for himself and kickbacks for his donors.”

And Comey thinks this is news? The only person who said otherwise was trump.

Comey lost the plot when he attacked Hillary Clinton. He bought the b.s. from the republicans in congress and decided he would change the path of history. He has to live with what he elected and no way can he EVER validate what he did.

That trump fired him for making sure Hillary was defeated is the weird part of this story.

And you know what else I hate is after the golf Masters last week, Patrick Reed who won, was revealed all the skeletons in his closet. Alcohol abuse in college, alleged cheating in college golf tournaments, and him disowning his family after he decided to marry an older controlling woman. People were upset because this became public after his success. The typical response was “ i dont care whats in his personal life, as long as i can watch him play great golf” Sound familiar? But that is the price of becoming famous in todays world. If you dont want your flaws to be subject to scrutiny and a subject to all kinds of journalism, nobody is forcing you into the public eye. You choose to be the best in your field, you get everything else that goes with it.

You only contribute to society, in Trump’s eyes, of your daddy have you lots of cash, you know, like Romney’s roughing it in college, living off of his daddy’s stock options.

Like you, I have little sympathy for Comey. He broke with the discipline and professionalism of the FBI and dragged that organization further into politics.

But I always just assumed that Trump saw what Comey did to Clinton. And on seeing that decided to do Comey in before Comey could do unto Trump.

I hadn’t thought of that - could well be the reason. Why would Comey stop at ruining a presidential candidate when he could then take down a President.

The typical response was ” i dont care whats in his personal life, as long as i can watch him play great golf” Sound familiar? But that is the price of becoming famous in todays world. If you dont want your flaws to be subject to scrutiny and a subject to all kinds of journalism, nobody is forcing you into the public eye. You choose to be the best in your field, you get everything else that goes with it.

Interestingly enough, I worked in sports talk radio when Le Tigre fell and a lot of the response from golfers was the exact opposite. They were quite happy to see his personal foibles take him out.

So Mr. Comey thinks that Trump is morally unfit to be president, but doesn’t think impeachment is an appropriate route … the voters should just vote him out in 2020.

If he was just an incompetent boob but surrounded himself with expert advice, I might agree with that assessment.

You don’t wait for the next family caucus to wonder if an arsonist should be booted out of your home while burning it down, even if someone in the home originally invited him in.

While James Comey was a long-time FBI employee, he is first and foremost a conservative.

Everybody’s the hero of their own story. James Comey will acknowledge that it was a mistake, he’ll say he made a bad bet, he’ll even acknowledge that Trump is a dumpster fire. BUT he will never say it was wrong to make that decision because it would mean taking some measure of responsibility for Trump’s win. So he’ll rationalize his decision, he’ll make excuses for why it was the right call, but he’ll never say “I was wrong for making that decision.”

Giuliani was certainly hinting at something before the letter was released and I wouldn’t be surprised that, if Comey hadn’t released his letter, the NY office would have would have claimed there was a coverup. I know that at my level the FAA can seem incompetent, but when it came to public saftey they were excellent. But how they are brushing the problems with Allegiant under the rug is disturbing. Large societies don’t change quickly.

Even when new toys (engineering marvels) enter the picture, societies have shown a tendency to not want to change.

In physics we’d call that “stiffness”, as in material science.

The idea of “elasticity” in economics is not really the same thing, but can also be used as an analogy to what I am addressing.

As we grow older it is very hard to change our habits.

And we are a society with lots of old people.

During my lifetime we have seen change. The Civil Rights movement did indeed bring about change. The “sexual revolution” has indeed brought about change.

However, these changes are into a matrix of a society born out of a very rigid patriarchy, and the changes are incremental.

When my grandfather came to this country, roughly a quarter to a third of the African Americans living at that time had been born into slavery.

Something to think about.

Giuliani was certainly hinting at something before the letter was released and I wouldn’t be surprised that, if Comey hadn’t released his letter, the NY office would have would have claimed there was a coverup. The press would have jumped on those allegations and made them the main story for the few days remaining in the campaign.

I honestly thought this was already accepted (in Democratic circles) as one of the factors/threats he used for his calculation. And yet it still was his decision and he made a bad one.
And no, I don’t expect him to admit it. He’s a Republican FBI company man thru and thru.

This is important: US universities have often attracted the best and brightest students in the world.

With Trump’s xenophobia being now US policy, some of those students will decide to not come here.

The counter-argument is that these students were taking places away from deserving, hard-working Americans.

The counter-argument is that these students were taking places away from deserving, hard-working Americans.

Well yes, that’s what a xenophobe would say.

But that is not how graduate studies work.

Graduate students are low-paid trainees, who exchange their work (teaching assistant, research assistant, or admin assistant) for being trained in their specialty.

A graduate program has a budget but it doesn’t really cost more to teach a grad class of 8 students compared to 7 students. So admission limits are really down to how the university wants to charge for graduate tuition. For many programs in technical fields, a student working for her department will often get that tuition covered by their department.

The big question is always the quality of the student. Many people get B.S./B.A. degrees - it’s not that difficult today, other than cost - but not everyone is interested in doing what it takes to get a Doctorate (or whatever the final degree is in the profession.)

Back (long ago) in my senior year of college I was pretty burnt out (double major plus a minor, no breaks over 45 months straight), but still applied to a couple of grad schools and was accepted, with the usual assistance offers. I decided instead to go to work for money, a decision I still wonder about to this day. How different would my life had been if I did go to UCSB or Rochester, instead of going to work for the military-industrial complex?

So, there are likely many promising future scholars who, because they are no longer welcome in this country courtesy of Trumpian policies, who either will not go forward in their field, or just go elsewhere.

The long term impact details of that is unknown, but I don’t see how it can be anything but negative for the US.

Large societies don’t change quickly.

During my lifetime we have seen change. The Civil Rights movement did indeed bring about change. The “sexual revolution” has indeed brought about change.

However, these changes are into a matrix of a society born out of a very rigid patriarchy, and the changes are incremental.

I think that the Sexual Revolution is still going on: attitudes about women are still shaping: before the sexual revolution, there were two classes of women: virgins and sluts. The former were to marry and raise families, the latter deserved whatever fate befell them.

We are starting to recognize that women need not belong to either category.

“Slut shaming” is still a thing, as well as the notion that women who “dress like whores” deserve whatever happens to them. That is starting to change but is still well entrenched in a lot of society.

Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel  Apr 16, 2018 • 1:50:19am

Contrary to much of the current slavery apologist propaganda, the slave trade was furiously controversial in both England and Spain right at the beginning, as was Spanish treatment of native Americans. Clergymen and philosophers railed against it, and many sea captains and common sailors refused to have anything to do with it. The profits were phenomenol however and successive governments found ways to allow it, mostly on the grounds that if we don’t reap those profits, someone else will. By the 18th century the opposition had become muted, almost resigned to it, only to be revived during the Enlightenment. This revival of anti-slavery agitation was ultimately successful but only after an epic political, moral and military struggle.

It really is a good study in how a practice becomes “normalized”.

From the middle 17th century to the late 18th century the continued practice of slavery made it “normal”.

But even at the time of the writing of the US Constitution there was a debate over whether slavery ought to be kept.

And Haiti became independent shortly after the 19th century started and that was a the forefront of finally eliminating slavery in the Americas, in which we ought to point out that Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was late compared to what had gone on the previous 6 decades.

But, back in the middle 17th century, the rapid increase in wealth from tobacco and sugar drove the acceptance of slavery as the way to do business in the New World, for the colonial powers.

Ultimately, slavery was about the desire for wealth.

While that may be seen as the proximate issue leading up to the Civil War, there were many Americans concerned about slavery, enough so that after about 1790 laws became increasingly about restricting aspects of slavery.

See: academic.udayton.edu

Plenty of Americans were not only aware of the issue, but were divided over it.

This gets back to why slavery developed as it did in the New World: as part of the economics of agriculture. This is how slavery was “normalized” in the places where tobacco and sugar (and eventually cotton) were grown. In these regions the consciences of the lawmakers were seared by the flames of money.

How stupid do you have to be, to commit extra felonies while covering something up, that could otherwise be done legally?

Paying someone some money to not go to the press should be a relatively simple matter for a competent lawyer. But instead Michael Cohen tried to cover Trump’s tracks, and has given the FBI one of the easiest crimes to convict him of.

Assuming that he did lie on the bank loan application, all the FBI has to do is show that it was him that filled out the form….they don’t need to prove collusion, they don’t need to show state of mind, they don’t need to explain complicated financial transactions to a judge or jury.

All they have to do is show that Mr Cohen used the money for paying someone off, but didn’t write that on the application form.

A white collar lawyer has reportedly declined the chance to serve on President Trump’s legal team.

CNN reported New York attorney Steven Molo — a former special prosecutor who specializes in white collar defense — was contacted by people close to Trump.

Molo declined the offer due to an unidentified conflict.
“I regret a current conflict related to the investigation prevents me from representing the President at this time,” Molo told CNN.

“unidentified conflict”….LOL

We see this even with Stormy. Many people, men but also some women, speak of her derisively as a “porn star”. Well, she was that, but why would that be any worse than say a “reality tv star”.

And she is wearing her business/economic choices like a crown

One reason why she’s doing so well in the media. She’s left them nothing to “attack”

Ultimately, slavery was about the desire for wealth.

of course it was
if they didnt need so much “free labor” there would have been no point to it

He never cared whether it hurt other people. Most of the tech billionaires don’t care about whether their products hurt others — they care about creating something new and exciting and making money.

OTOH it’s not only tech billionaires who are like that — the pharmaceutical heads didn’t care when they marketed the highly addictive opioids nor tobacco companies care that their products kill millions. Hmmm — maybe the issue is that many people don’t care what they do as long as they acquire great wealth in the process.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area.

Everyone on the right is playing to type.

Dershowitz attacking the ACLU on Fox, claiming that they don’t protect everyone’s civil rights (patently bullshit, but that’s what we expect from a guy who continually goes on Fox to audition for a role in Trump’s legal team, even as he knows he’ll never get paid for that work should Trump get him to sign on).

Then there’s the nonstop attacks on Comey from the right from Fox, White House toadys, etc.

It’s entirely predictable and expected.

The problem for all these people is that the Comey book, the Steele dossier, and FBI behavior continues to get corroborated by events and facts every day since Comey interceded with the Clinton letter in October 2016.

Comey’s behavior then was inexcusable and wrong, but what he says and does about Trump can be accurate and factual. These are not opposite views that cannot coexist.

They are positions that can coexist, mostly because we’ve seen allegations against Trump get corroborated from multiple sources in multiple ways.

Trump lies. We know this. We see this daily. He lies about everything - big and inconsequential. It’s what he does.

He bullies. He is reactionary. He doesn’t have a sustained worldview or hold any near and dear policy positions, because he can’t remember what he said or tweeted previously.

It’s all seemingly stream of consciousness - pure ego, vanity, and insecurity.

But there’s one bit I want to reiterate.

Right wingers attack Comey and the FBI and the Steele dossier claiming it’s all proof that Comey was a Clinton hack whose lies and covering for Clinton makes her treasonous.

These same know-nothings would have treated a dossier about Clinton as the Holy Grail that the FBI, DOJ, CIA, NSA, and every other govt entity and law enforcement at every level would have needed to treat as a top priority to prosecute and convict Clinton (skipping the indictment and presumption of innocence). But because it’s Trump, they’ll deflect and project.

I’m also thinking that he was probably played by the NY office, which seemed to have it out for Clinton, but he doesn’t want to attack that office since they’re engaging in ongoing investigations into multiple Trump criminal acts right now.

Comey should have kept quiet on both Clinton and Trump investigations until there was more known about both. Or he should have said that both were under investigation.

Saying Clinton was and Trump wasn’t when Trump clearly was is where Comey’s problems start.

To say Comey is a Clinton loyalist shows the pretzel logic behind all this. Comey’s actions clearly helped Trump and harmed Clinton. The effect to which might have been small, but sufficient to sway just enough people in just enough places to throw the election to Trump.

And that’s the problem. Comey did interfere. And he is trying to rationalize his actions as though it was for the greater good when his omission was an even bigger problem.

Two things here.

1) Govt can claim Cohen wasn’t practicing law re: Trump, and therefore no attorney client privilege exists and the crime fraud exception isn’t applicable.
2) Govt can treat Cohen as a lawyer and rely on the crime fraud exception to go after Cohen and Trump because of their criminal acts.

Again, these theories can both be used in the case.

Govt can claim he’s not acting as a lawyer in regards to Trump, Cohen can assert he’s a lawyer, and the govt can rebut with the crime fraud exception.

Either way, Trump and Cohen are in jeopardy because Cohen’s been Trump’s fixer for a long time - not handling legal matters, but as an extension of Trump’s bullying and bloviating methods.

The problem is that the legal team he’s up against is far better and more clever than he is.

As I pointed out, the warrant was issued using the crime fraud exception. So, even if he was practicing law, he’s rogered thanks to the fact you can’t use attorney client privilege to shield criminal acts, frauds, and misdeeds like this.

But if he’s limiting himself to these three clients, then he’s got a problem too, because any other correspondences not relating to those three clients is therefore not governed by attorney client privilege and there’s a lower standard of evidence involved.

For the three clients, the government’s already got the crime fraud exception in play.

And this morning’s news in my immediate area…

Police on Long Island have seized multiple weapons and ammunition from the home of a man accused of threatening an employee of a school in Rockland County.

Clarkstown police notified Suffolk County police that 32-year-old Robert Csak, of Lindenhurst, left a threatening message on the answering machine of an employee of the Summit School in Upper Nyack on Saturday.

Police say Csak attend the school in 2002. Officers went to Csak’s home and after obtaining a search warrant seized 19 firearms, including a shotgun, a Tommy gun, high-capacity magazines, night vision goggles, a bump stock and other items.

I heard the police spokesman on the radio last night. He sounded positively shook that this guy had such an arsenal. He said ‘There’s no telling what we might have prevented here.’

re: #283 lawhawk

Two things here.

1) Govt can claim Cohen wasn’t practicing law re: Trump, and therefore no attorney client privilege exists and the crime fraud exception isn’t applicable.
2) Govt can treat Cohen as a lawyer and rely on the crime fraud exception to go after Cohen and Trump because of their criminal acts.

Again, these theories can both be used in the case.

Govt can claim he’s not acting as a lawyer in regards to Trump, Cohen can assert he’s a lawyer, and the govt can rebut with the crime fraud exception.

Either way, Trump and Cohen are in jeopardy because Cohen’s been Trump’s fixer for a long time - not handling legal matters, but as an extension of Trump’s bullying and bloviating methods.

i read cohen may want to represent himself
what an irony if he’s approved to be his own lawyer and then it’s ruled he wasn’t trump’s lawyer

So, there was a prison riot in South Carolina, and we’re starting to learn details of what happened.

Prisoners fought and killed each other, and corrections officers didn’t do enough to stop the fighting - leading to still more casualties.

This is no way to run a prison system. That’s not what it’s there for.

UPDATE:
At least 7 were killed in this single deadly outbreak of violence, but since 2017, 20 have been killed in South Carolina prisons.

Again - this goes to how the prisons are being run with a disregard for the safety of the prisoners and corrections staff too.

If you make the prison dangerous for the prisoners, you’re making it more dangerous for the corrections officers as well.

He was apologetic about bringing his bike to have somebody else fix it, but he’s a man smart enough to know his limitations on the rare occasion when he reaches them. (The rear tire is flat, for possibly the first time in 21 years, and it has a weird cable-actuate hub brake that he didn’t want to mess with. This is a guy who cut his frame and welded it back together to make the steering less twitchy.) He also apologized for not remembering my name. No problem, it is weird that I remember his. The old memories still work, it’s the new ones that don’t.

He drove off in a truck older than I am. Looks like a 1956. I’m a ‘58.

And this is where the GOP is shooting itself in the foot: a lot of immigrants are socially conservative and believe in strong families and the American Dream. Unfu…

NOPE. Totally fucking believable. Hannity, who spends every moment in the media shilling for Trump and spewing misinformation is up to his eyeballs in Trumpworld.

How do we get from there to here? Via Cohen? You don’t say. There’s a reason that Hannity gets louder and louder in attacking Mueller and the FBI and the ongoing investigations. He knew that his name was going to come out as being wrapped up in all this.

Now watch how Hannity wrap himself in the 1A to claim that he’s done nothing wrong and that he’s protected under the 1A.

Except that it’s not protection against a crime. That’s the 5A Sean.

He’s not protecting his journalistic sources.

Cohen’s not able to protect his conversations with Hannity if they’re engaging in crime or fraud (crime fraud exception).

Oh, and Hannity will now spin this as the Deep State trying to take him out. Yeah, and his misinformed viewers will buy that bullshit too.

threaded that one… because the beauty of this is that Hannity isn’t some disinterested party here.

He’s up to his eyeballs and is surrounded by people under investigation. His lawyer is under investigation. His own communications are now suspect. There’s no 1A protection here.

Hannity has a 5A right he can assert.

Hannity’s not in the role of a journalist if he’s communicating with Cohen or Trump via Cohen about coordinating strategy, including smear campaign against Mueller, Comey, and FBI.

Of the four main team sports, NBA seems to lean the most liberal in my observations. I don’t know if too many prominent conservative NBAers. Barkley gets called conservative but I don’t think he is.

And, because the Boston Celtics are my number one love (and I noticed you praised Auerbach, so I guess there’s at least one Boston team that escapes the smack talk—heh)

The first black player drafted by an NBA team was Chuck Cooper, picked in the second round of the 1950 draft by the Boston Celtics, and in1966, Bill Russell became the first African American coach in North American professional sports when he took over the reins from Red Auerbach.

KGxvi  Apr 16, 2018 • 12:12:53pm

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate what has happened in the last year at Fox News:

1. Bill O’Reilly has been fired because sponsors bailed on his show when it came out that he is a serial sexual harasser who has had to pay millions of dollars to women for said sexual harassment.

2. His replacement, Laura Ingraham, is about to lose her show because sponsors are bailing on it because she made fun of a 17/18 year old high school student (who survived a mass shooting at his high school) because he didn’t get into the college(s) high on his wishlist.

3. Sean Hannity, who has spent more time sniff and promoting Trump’s jock strap, has been identified as one of three clients for Michael Cohen - an “attorney” or lawyer-ajace - whose only apparent legal work is writing non-disclosure agreements for wealth/famous men when they have been accused of sexual misconduct.

If we are in a simulation, we’ve reached the point where the entity playing the simulation got bored and is now just fucking around to see what chaos it can create (I know this feeling from having played the old versions of Sim City and Civilization 3 & 4)

Hannity’s days at Fox may be numbered thanks to his dumbfuckery and thinking he could get away not mentioning the fact that his lawyer is none other than Cohen - the same guy repping both Trump and Broidy.

Hannity should consider getting himself another attorney (his own attorney has already taken that route).

I remember when “Raiders Of The Lost Ark” came out - the nonstop action, for the whole length of the movie was just mindboggling. I don’t remember any movie like it before, one action scene with harrowing escape after another for two hours!

This Cohen/Hannity thing made me think of that. This whole Presidency has been like that. Or maybe like one of those Popeil ads - “What would you say to that? Don’t answer yet, because THERE’S MORE!!!!”

This poor person is an example of how Fox News takes away all forms of human reasoning. Her first reaction: Blame Left Wing Media.

I thought that was snark.

Seemingly every major white shoe law firm has offices within a square mile of Fox News hq in midtown.

He could have walked down the block and found law firms that specialize in entertainers/journalists and reputation-related issues.

He picked Cohen.

If it’s not sexual abuse or harrassment what else could it be do ya think?

I only say this because Yashar has consistently said, no matter how much of a hack he was, the word on the street is that he’s not that. And that type of insider info is Yashar’s lane. Of course he still could be but I do wonder what else could be in play.

If the claim is true that he was never involved with any third party concerns but was asking for legal advice, I’d bet Lumpy was trying to figure out how legal - or illegal - his cooperation with Assange was.

lawhawk  Apr 16, 2018 • 12:43:15pm

re: #600 JordanRules

If it isn’t sex harassment/abuse, then my guess was that Hannity was using Cohen to pass info back and forth to Trump, and then hoping to use attorney client privilege to protect the conversation - all while ignoring that conspiracy against the US and other criminal acts are not protected by attorney client privilege.

Coordinating attacks on Mueller with the Admin is a possibility and puts Hannity and Fox in legal jeopardy. That adds to the obstruction of justice case against Trump and expands who else would be involved.

And you can bet that Fox has better attorneys than Hannity.

imagine hannity’s downfall at fox, fox, is because of a journalistic ethical violation

Somewhere in the sub-sub-basement of FoxNews HQ, in a small, dingy office, the sole member of the ethics department slumbers. The phone rings. He awakens, and slowly rises from his chair and walks over to the desk and picks up the handset. As he raises it to his ear he thinks, “At last. My time has come”……..

Also, legally, it doesn’t matter if the client pays you or not, when deciding whether the attorney-client relationship formed. Technically, it could form, for limited purposes through nothing more than a ten minute case review and consultation.
