Oh, look. I CL’d myself!

Rest in Peace, Barbara Bush. Tough lady, through and through.

(NB: She Who Must Be Obeyed is still annoyed about the coverage of her decision:

“Former First Lady Terminates Medical Care”

Her response:

“Such bullshit. She made an informed decision. Palliative and Hospice care *is* medical care.”)

I used to argue that W gave Osama bin Laden everything he could have hoped for in the wake of 9/11. The domestic paranoia and the war in Iraq was what he wanted to happen. This country hasn’t been the same since.

I’ve seen it happen a couple of times, once in 1993 and then in 2011. Huge snowstorms in the upper midwest followed by heavy rains after the melt. They call those years “Great Floods of the Mississippi.”

I LOVE Kendrick. My first experience with his music was at a SWAC basketball tournament 4-5 years ago that I was shooting for the local fish wrap. I was editing pics and all of a sudden “Swimming Pools” comes on and the security guards on the floor were bumping to it. I yelled at one of them “Who is this guy? He’s awesome!” He replied “Kendrick Lamar, dude!” Been a fan ever since.

I got lucky in that one time, when he was with my dad and I, he opened up a little bit and told me some of this and some of his service in the Indiana State Police as an investigator. My wife told me about it at dinner, I was skeptical. We came home and gave it a quick listen. It’s really good and she plays most of it pretty straight. Turns out ON-J was her idol when she was a kid.

Nice to see her getting back in the game, too. Could a new Liz Phair record be far behind? :)

I only owned “exile in guyville.” But I think The Breeders are reunited. I wish Kathleen Edwards would re-emerge.

No minutemen here. Fourth great grands arrived from Alsace during the French Revolution. Most recent was in 1921 and was my Grandmother’s Mom.

Had both a minuteman and a Hessian, which was also a neat find for me. My family has been here a long time, which makes an interesting contrast with Mrs. Fish, whose family emigrated to the US in the post-Civil War era.

Well, there’s the end of the moisture. It’s cloudy and dark to me east, but the blue sky has appeared above me, and to the west is a textbook Colorado sunset, with a lot of orange colors.

It’s gonna get cold tonight. Good thing I bought two 40 lb. bags of pellets for my pellet stove.

No?

then STFU about bernie’s common ground.

“Common ground”? Well, the first portion of that “common ground” should be “thou shalt not campaign against thine own political party.” If he wants to run against the DNC, then he can do so as an Green party candidate or on a write-in bid. He is not going to run again in the DNC’s own primaries on a platform of “THE DNC IS A WRETCHED HIVE AND VOTE FOR ME BECAUSE I’M NOT PART OF IT!”

Trumpworld is the incompetence and mediocrity we’ve come to expect from right wingers who constantly complain about how government doesn’t work.

None of them care about the details. These are the people who claimed that they had a tax plan and a health care plan in lieu of Obamacare, and when they were actually required to show their work, they were writing on napkins in crayon and in the margins at the last minute.

Trumpworld doesn’t care about competency, only loyalty. They aren’t interested in quality assurance and fact checking everything leaving the office, or making sure that names and dates are correct. That’s all beyond them.

This song came out in 2006. Very cynical.

Flesh Storm

Take a deep breath
‘Cause it all starts now
When you pull the fuckin’ pin
The shrapnel burns
As it tears into the skin
Every wonder what it takes
To be questioning your faith
This is what it’s like
When it happens every Goddamn day

Violence is our way of life

Shards of life
Like confetti in the air
The flesh storm grows
As it breeds despair
You hear screams in the distance
Fighting the resistance
Not cries of war
These are just the sounds of pain

It’s all just psychotic devotion
Manipulated with no discretion
Relentless War

Killing’s in style
And it’s not the main event
The cameras are whores
For the daily bloodshed
Like a junkie
Hungry for a fix of anything
The media devours
And feasts upon the inhumane

Violence is our way of life

It’s all too fuckin’ clear
We can never coincide
So let’s all drink
To genocide
All the venomous sights
Border on the arcane
In times of war
Everything is bound by pain

It’s all just psychotic devotion
Manipulated with no discretion
Relentless
Warfare knows no compassion
Thrives with no evolution
Unstable minds exacerbate
Unrest in peace

There’s no future
The world is dead
So save the last
Bullet for your head

Only fallen have won
Because the fallen can’t run
My vision’s not obscure
For war there is no cure
So here the only law
Is men killing men
For someone else’s cause

It’s all just psychotic devotion
Manipulated with no discretion
Relentless War

That’s exactly right. If you haven’t actively worked in the field, you have a background in a subject, whatever it might be, as far as Professional Licensing is concerned.

Although, I must admit, I wish I had an MS from the CSM. That is a kick-ass hard rock school. My little BS from Tulane pales, although it gave me a nice career.

totally OT but I am so excited to announce that after MONTHS of watching an avocado pit sit in water doing absolutely nothing…I checked it today and IT HAS A ROOT!!!!

So, I managed not to kill it after all…

Did you drop the whole put into water or half like a potato? When you plant it, do you plant the entire pit in the soil or half above soil? I’d like to give that a go.

I cut off the top part of a plastic water bottle, inverted the top into the lower part, put the pit in the top, and filled with water so the pit would be roughly half submerged. Put the works in a warm spot in the kitchen, out of direct sunlight, and changed the water from time to time. I’m waiting for the stem/leaves to appear before planting in soil.

Asahi Shinbun is reporting that Trump and Abe are in full accord on how to proceed with negotiations with Kim, and that Trump has (I think I got this right) agreed to mention NK’s kidnapping of several Japanese citizens, in particular (of course) those who remain unaccounted for.

This is something Japan really wants resolution on. But I don’t trust Trump to do it right, not at all. I think Abe is nuts to try and work through Trump.

There is nothing in the US Flag Code for the spouses of government officials. Ordering the flag to half-mast for the wife of a president is solely the discretion of the President or a state governor.

As of yet, there are no notices on the White House Website, or any state Website.

She shouldn’t be that hard to replace—she had zero foreign policy experience or knowledge; zero background in diplomacy.

Compare and contrast:

Samantha Power—JD from Harvard; war correspondent; Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy; Senior Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights on the National Security Council; Pulitzer Prize winner and more BEFORE she was UN Ambassador.

The South has still not moved beyond its historical racism. People who move there from the North can be infected by this disease. I had a girl friend who, though born up North, spent part of her childhood in Florida. When Obama was running for President in 2008, it was shocking to observe her total contempt for him and for MLK. Shortly afterwards, our friendship dissolved.
