There are going to actually be quite a few people angry if the investigation is cut short.

The Republicans are a shit party full of shit voters who vote for piece of shit candidates.

It really is that simple, and if the mainstream media wants to continue to ply its trade in something resembling a free nation, they better start accurately reporting on Republicans this way before it is too late.

Curious if they will cancel elections going forward since they don’t seem to feel the need to stop what they are doing even though it is highly unpopular throughout the country.

People have been paranoid about that forever. They’re probably just extremely short-sighted like most people. Assuming that people are rational and plan for the long-term is usually a mistake.

I think they have a plan and a contingency:
1. They hope gerrymandering will keep them in power.
2. If not, they hope they’ve stolen enough out of the bank to not be affected.

What a lawsuit will do to Alex Jones:

In a YouTube video, Jones said he now believes the shooting really happened, and that the families are being used by the Democratic Party and the news media. Jones invited the parents onto his program for a discussion about guns.

In the past, Jones has repeatedly claimed the shooting was staged and that parents of children who died in the shooting are actors.

About the only rational argument I can think of for the Republican party to continue to hold elections is that the unrest that would accompany a transition to full fascism would be bad for business and upset the chamber of commerce part of the party.

Short version: Employees at an LA Fitness tell two black men - one of whom is a member and the other who was in with a valid 4 day pass - were told to leave. The cops did the right thing, and now, the employees involved no longer work there.

Also telling that he simply cannot bring himself to reckon with the fact that he violated DOJ procedures and precedent when he excoriated Hillary Clinton for her various ‘sins’ as he saw them while declining to prosecute and then very publicly launching the investigation right before the election (in violation of policy again!) while saying NOTHING about the investigation that was looking at the Trump campaign(which should have been the case for both!).

He still sees nothing wrong with that, but makes himself into the victim, natch.

Ok. I’ll bite.

Was one major party completely nuts?

We’re they beholden to a foreign power?

A major wing of the Democratic Party (in the South) was completely nuts. They were fighting desegregation across the board. They were actually using violence against peaceful protesters (as well as supporting lynchings).

A major wing of the Republican Party was also completely nuts. They were stoking fears of communist infiltration. They were using the power of government to ruin lives.

So, the crazy was a bit more bipartisan. They weren’t beholden to a foreign power, but the Red Scare folks were effectively doing the work of the Soviets by sowing discontent and fear.

We have a unique perspective because we are living through it, in a time when information is instantly available and comes non-stop from countless sources. But our history isn’t nearly as rosey as we tend to believe with hindsight. Those opposed to the ratification of the constitution called Federalists “traitors to the revolution” because they believed the new constitution went too far. It is always bitter in the moment, but I believe that the course of history is ultimately just - we will survive this, and the chapter in future history books will be as kind to Trump and his minions as current history books are to Andrew Jackson.

AUSTIN, Texas — Lance Armstrong has reached a $5 million settlement with the federal government in a whistleblower lawsuit that could have sought $100 million in damages from the cyclist who was stripped of his record seven Tour de France victories after admitting he used performance-enhancing drugs throughout much of his career.

The deal announced Thursday came as the two sides prepared for a trial that was scheduled to start May 7 in Washington. Armstrong’s former U.S. Postal Service teammate Floyd Landis filed the original lawsuit in 2010 and is eligible for up to 25 percent of the settlement.

You know, I’m not sure. Newt showed that you can succeed by flouting all the norms, by making compromise a dirty word, by saying whatever works without caring whether it’s true, by simply denying it when caught in a lie.

Newt paved the way for Trump by demonstrating that the GOP could simultaneously be moralistic and deeply immoral, that hypocrisy is only a problem for those capable of shame, and that telling people what they want to believe is more effective with a large segment of the population than telling the truth.

Good read here. A veteran defense attorney talks about how completely fucked Says Who is.

Basically, Bob Mueller is playing three-dimensional chess, and Trump is playing tiddlywinks. Mueller is pummeling the shit out of him, and every lawyer on the planet can see it.

Here’s how I know: Every lawyer I know who has been contacted by the White House has represented terrible people in the past, and they all said, “no thanks.”

Two reasons: One is the traditional stuff, he’s a terrible client who won’t listen and won’t pay—a disaster combo. The second reason is the stink of it. Their job is not to divine who’s good and who’s bad—defense attorneys ensure that even the most disgusting among us get due process.

But this has other value judgements—no one wants to take a case with all these other headaches and go down in flames in front of the entire world. Be associated with this guy, spend all your time and not get paid, alienate all of your other clients (current and future) and lose dramatically? There is just no upside.

It’s hard to tell. Tunch’s dead was sudden, shocking, and swift. John might be there for Lily in the end, but he can also see her suffering, which is a whole different type of heartbreaking, to know you’re the one that has to let them go. Not to mention Lily was his anchor after Tunch. I know he loves both Rosie and Thurston, but he made it clear how much Lily specifically meant to him.

There is something called the work product privilege. It’s related to the attorney-client privilege, but covers stuff that a lawyer/law firm would be doing on a case. Things like the attorney’s notes and research, documents and internal communications related to strategy. There is also what you might call a settlement privilege, which is basically that communications related to settlement between the parties and counsel are privileged in that they cannot be entered into the record. But neither of those privileges are going to help Rudy very much.

I don’t care how one feels about the Bushes. I csnt imagine the sorrow of losing a child that young and having the courage to go on. My dad’s aunt was a little older when she died. My grandfather had no memory of his big sis since he was a new born when it happened. I’m not sure if there’s an afterlife but I hope there is for cases like this.

According a Monday report from In These Times, police associations, police unions, district attorneys, and cops in leadership positions have been lobbying in favor of “protest suppression” laws in at least eight states:

According to research conducted for In These Times in partnership with Ear to the Ground, law enforcement in at least eight states—Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Washington and Wyoming—lobbied on behalf of anti-protest bills in 2017 and 2018. The bills ran the gamut from punishing face coverings at protests to increasing penalties for “economic disruption” and highway blockage to criminalizing civil protests that interfere with “critical infrastructure” like oil pipelines.

Emboldened by the Trump administration, at least 31 states have considered 62 pieces of anti-protest legislation since November 2016, with at least seven enacted and 31 still pending. The full scope of police support for these bills is not yet known.

We lost my cousin to leukemia at the age of 14. I was a freshman in college, so mid/late-90s. He had two younger brothers, his youngest brother, who is now somewhere around 30 doesn’t have any memory of him. I don’t know how my aunt and uncle survived that, let alone stayed married to this day.

The police and district attorneys have always leaned hard on the law and order stuff, they believe that’s their job. And typically don’t like be challenged, especially publicly. Can’t say I’m particularly surprised by this. Hopefully the legislatures and governors in those states are smart enough to realize they’d be passing unconstitutional bills.

Good read here. A veteran defense attorney talks about how completely fucked Says Who is.

I have to add the final two paragraphs, when taken together made me howl with laughter.

It’s one thing to take a case that’s really tough, we all do that every day. It’s an entirely different thing to take hold of a fucking rock and jump off a ship and sink to the bottom.

Update: Shortly after this interview was published, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was previously the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, joined Trump’s legal team. He told the Washington Post: “I’m doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country.”

It’s tough as hell I bet. It’s honestly why I don’t look at the good old days. I mean obviously children still die sadly but childhood mortality is way down. Thinking about it, all but one of my grandparents lost a sibling and the one who didn’t lost her mother at ten. I really hope somewhere Barbara is reunited with her little girl.

Reading Cole’s post on Lily brought back memories. Of course you all know about Zeena because I told you about the ups and downs of her last weeks. That broke my heart, but when our first dog died, I was totally fucking crushed. Rhyo. He was a Golden we got as a puppy. Being a Golden he loved everyone and just knew they loved him back. He was fine on Thursday, a little down on Friday afternoon, and by bedtime Friday he was in such obvious distress we took him to the emergency vet clinic.

Hemangiosarcoma. Spleen thoroughly involved. Two big mets in his liver. Bleeding internally. No choices.

The swiftness of it leaves no chance to get used to the idea before you have to say goodbye. I was fucked up about it for a week. If anything, Cole is closer to Lily than I was with Rhyo, who was more Mrs. FBW’s dog than mine.

Since we (the USA) are basically telling PR to fuck off and die, is the a possibility that the idea of a revolution could take hold? I don’t know enough about the political situation but I do know when things get desperate, this is the sort of thing that can happen.

As with everything in life, it’s complicated. There are revolutionary elements, but these have been marginalized and demonized for a long time (this has been happening since the 40s and 50s). A revolution won’t be happening.

The pro-statehood party has devolved into a single issue party: statehood at any cost. And partly that’s what’s happening. In their quest for statehood, they have been doing concessions left and right, and not fighting hard enough.

There’s an ironic way out: migrate en masse to the USA. The second wave might get even stronger.

Sorry for the lack of details … I’m on the move right now.

(I wrote a quick primer on the political parties in PR some time ago, but never posted it. If you’re interested, I can find it and make a page.)

I remember when he and Al D’Amato wanted to grab headlines for being tough on drugs, so they grabbed some Hell’s Angels colors out of an evidence lockup and headed up to Washington Heights to buy some crack.

Which ended up costing the city a few million dollars after the Angels’ lawyer (Ron Kuby, IIRC) got through with them. Kuby made the Angels a lot of money from the city, because Rudy and the NYPD just couldn’t stop breaking balls. Dopes.

All they would have to do is approach Cuba for direct relations and make separation noises. A mere territory has a lower bar than a state to secede right? Has more independence to act. The following shitstorm would be bigger than the hurricane and bring every resource into play fast.

It’s an interesting idea. This might have some merit. There are Cold War vestiges that will have to break down (basically, communism = evul). But it won’t be mere noises. If PR as much as considers talking with Cuba, Cuba is going to fight with everything they have. Both countries have long considered themselves as siblings. There’s even a famous verse that’s referenced in non political terms.

Trump: ‘Human Trafficking Is Worse Than It’s Ever Been In The History Of The World

n comments advocating a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday, President Donald Trump said, “Human trafficking is worse than it’s ever been in the history of the world.”

“Drugs are flowing into our country,” he told reporters while visiting the Joint Interagency Task Force South in Key West, Florida. “We need border protection. We need the wall. We have to have the wall. The Democrats don’t want to approve the wall because they think it’s good politically, but it’s not.”

He continued: “If you look at what’s happening in California with sanctuary cities — people are really going the opposite way. They don’t want sanctuary cities. There’s a little bit of a revolution going on in California. Human trafficking is worse than it’s ever been in the history of the world.”

Do you have the flood-ers renter’s insurance info? If so, I’d imagine it’d be a lot like a not-at-fault car wreck, in which case you should be able to file a claim on your own without going through your upstairs neighbor.

Trump: ‘Human Trafficking Is Worse Than It’s Ever Been In The History Of The World

huffingtonpost.com

I hate this asshole with the heat of a billion suns.

Time for another love note to that motherfucker Trump:

Yo, shit for brains. Apparently you think your imaginary hordes of CA illegals amount to the worst human trafficking ever in the history of the world. Several centuries of the Atlantic slave trade is an easy and crushing counterexample.

Especially since your shittastic excuse of a political party is chock full of smegma elemental slavery apologists that would like nothing better than to bring back slavery and the slave trade.

Eat shit and die, you insufferably revolting and cancerous excuse for a human being. You corrupt and contaminate everyone and everything on Earth simply from your odious presence.

Let’s just ignore that California has a lower crime rate than Nevada or Arizona.

Maybe they need to build a wall between CA and those neighboring states. Because the threat is the GOP controlled states with lax gun control.

They’re all good dogs.

Last year, forest fires in central Chile wreaked havoc in the El Maule region with more than 100 different wildfires sweeping through the area and destroying over a million acres of forest land. It was the worst wildfire season in the country’s history, taking several lives and created an estimated $333 million of dollars worth of damages. The animals were forced to flee to safer areas.

The job to replant endless acres of forests seemed like a daunting endeavor. That is until three unusual workers took up the task. Six-year-old Das and her two daughters, Olivia and Summer are three Border Collies who have been trained to run through the damaged forests with special backpacks that release native plant seeds. Once they take root, these seeds will help regrow the destroyed area.

It turns out that Border Collies are an ideal breed for this specific type of job. Bounding through miles of forest terrain requires not only speed, intelligence, and endurance, but also a willingness to stay focused and not get distracted by wildlife.

Video at link.

You usually file with your own insurance company and they then subrogate (get the money back) the other person’s insurance company.

If you don’t have insurance company, get the claim number so you can contact their insurance carrier directly.

Stressing like I rarely do. You guys know I’m not one of those zero regulation guys at work. Proud that we make every effort to be kind to the air and water as we produce metals. Keep the guys safe and the metals pure. I (via my job) am in the middle of a fight between requirements of 2 powerful agencies.

On one side is a well meaning careful city fire department. On the other is the respected SoCal Air Quality Management District. Some large air quality gear is suddenly considered to be in the way of the fire sprinklers spray pattern. Ergo should be removed. That would violate the hell out of a permit. If I knowingly violated emissions rules and hid it I could be arrested. A twenty year old multi agency plan checked installation is now in violation. Jobs are on the line.

I am on four hours sleep. I can’t get this out of my head right since 2 am. If I was in for a blood pressure check it would not be healthy. A brick occupies a certain place in my gut.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on the fate of a U.S. citizen accused of working with Islamic State militants(all times local):

7:55 p.m.

A federal judge is blocking the government from transferring an American citizen accused of fighting with Islamic State militants to Saudi Arabia until he can fully challenge his detention in court.

The U.S. military has held the unidentified citizen without charge in Iraq since he surrendered in Syria more than seven months ago.

The judge sided with the American Civil Liberties Union, which argued that the transfer would violate the detainee’s rights and that the government has yet to prove that it is detaining him legally.

The U.S. says he was collaborating with the IS group. The ACLU says he was in Syria to chronicle the conflict.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled Thursday before a required 72 hours’ advance notice of the transfer was set to expire.

A lawyer is an option to fight, and not a good one apart from delaying actions, or last resort. It’s a genuine regulatory conflict. My newly hired fire sprinkler engineer will take a look tomorrow to try to create a proposal/plan. Ironically I’m often the jewelry expert called in for this stuff. it’s terribly obscure and technical rules language. I can hope a compromise or affordable engineering solution can be crafted.
