Repeat from downstairs with additional comment:

America, 2018, rural Washington state style:

Letter: Globalism vs. Nationalism

Globalists believe that the welfare of mankind is ultimately best served by an educated elite ruling within One World Government in order to avoid major wars and catastrophic events. They support bigger controlling governments to that end, forcing one’s will upon others in that whatever is best for the whole overrides individual rights. They usually support open borders, Democrats, anti Second Amendment, atheism, evolution, situational ethics, and man’s wisdom over God’s.

Nationalists believe that the welfare of mankind is best served by independent nations competing against each other with mutual cooperation of free trade on a level playing field in order to bring out the best in everyone. They believe that the stronger benevolent nations can best keep any rogue nations in check that wish to distribute evil weapons of war and to make war. They are patriotic to their national interests and welfare over other nations. They usually support local and limited government, individual rights, closed borders with legal immigration, Second Amendment, creationism, and trusting in God and his absolute truths that never change.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and as a person’s power increases, usually their sense of morality decreases. Do you support Globalism or Nationalism?

LEE WALTER, WEST RICHLAND

So there you have it, you evolutionist globalists.

Anyway, the letter is distillation of the religious-right — Trump alliance.

A lot of that seems like projecting. Individual rights. Tell that to the people who want to smoke marijuana without Sessions interfering with them. Or the people who want to be gay and be happy and not have reparative therapy. The nationalists are pricks who want it bot hways.

Nonsense of the highest order. A meaningless set of attributes that don’t apply to either category. But given that 46% of voters thought it was a good idea to make Trump president, it’s not surprising that so many Americans believe and promote such dishonest and destructive ideas. One cannot have a civil conversation with someone who adheres to such an ideology.

I could have an absolute field day with that whole paragraph on “nationalism” alone. just the 20th century alone disproves most of the damned thing, whether it was the superpowers provoking proxy wars in which the side the sponsored was showered with weapons and the opposition deemed a “rogue state,” to the “level playing field” of an America using its relatively unscathed status post-WWII to dominate international trade, to those “limited government” states promoting racism and bigotry in the name of God and trampling all over individual rights.

But it would be an absolute waste of my time, because any person who is saying these things is not making an intellectual argument, he’s regurgitating religious dogma and thus is beyond any rational arguments.

HappyWarrior  Apr 27, 2018 • 5:49:07pm

If being a globalist means I acknowledge I live in a global economy where I buy global products and interact with people all over the world either directly or indirectly, so be it. As for the elites part though. I just have to laugh my ass off at that considering that the Trump administration is nothing but elites.

A challenge for Mr. Walter - name one … just one country that embraced nationalism that also believed in the liberty of ALL of its countrymen, and not just the “chosen” ones.

Figure I’ll be waiting a long time for an answer to that one.

That sounds sooo good.
Just to share a wildly off topic thing. Every once in a while my job lets me see amazing things related. Yesterday I got a close up look at a diamond necklace from about 1850. Certainly pre civil war American made. I hit up the owner to let me do a magazine cover style shoot and feature pictorial on this artifact. Fingers crossed. The way it’s made fascinates me, literally created tiny 4 prong silver settings, or a rose gold foundation layer all strung on wire. But it comes apart into bracelets. Or a choker. Auction price would be low six figures. Anyways gtg to a meeting. See ya all in the late shift.

re: #26 HappyWarrior

Wow that was a helluva a read.

And it also ties in to what I posted about the race vs. class messaging experiment, where the only message that succeeded in winning over a majority of otherwise bigotry-inclined white voters was:

“Whether white, black, or brown, 5th generation or newcomer, we all want to build a better future for our children. My opponent says some families have value, while others don’t count. He wants to pit us against each other in order to gain power for himself and kickbacks for his donors.”

I think this wins because it confronts appeals to racism head-on and frames them as a front for corruption that hurts white people as well. Naturally there will be far too many white voters who’ll be perfectly fine with any obscenity that promotes white supremacy. But some will feel more resentment at the thought of being tricked and taken advantage of, and if you manage to persuade enough of these people in the states that matter, you can win elections.

A beginner’s guide to the world of weird and wonderful Japanese import cars

Did you grow up playing Gran Turismo, marveling over the weird and wonderful Japanese market (JDM) cars that never made it to these shores? If you, too, always wanted to drive JDM exotica like a Nissan Skyline, Toyota Century, or Mazda Cosmo, prepare yourself for good news.

H.R.2628, the “Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act of 1988,” has long been a thorn for automotive enthusiasts in the USA. This is the official reason why, after you discovered those cars in Gran Turismo, you couldn’t actually buy one. Known as the ‘25 Year Rule,’ H.R.2628 essentially requires auto enthusiasts to wait 25 years to the month from when a vehicle was first manufactured before it can be legally imported if the vehicle wasn’t originally meant for sale in the US market.
