The plane was a Puerto Rico Air National Guard bird, and had apparently just departed the airport (where they also have a Gulfstream plant).

Can’t tell for sure, but the way it augured into the ground it may have had a prop go into an uncommanded reversal. It has happened before with older C-130’s.

The best, and really only argument I can see for the Emoluments Clause not applying to the President is that it’s an Article I provision and Article I pertains to the structure, scope and limits of the legislative branch.

The obvious problem with that is that the provision that immediately precedes the Emoluments Clause says:

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

Which clearly and by precedent limits the power of the President and his Executive Branch Treasury Secretary to pay for shit.

There’s a couple different cases going, and I wasn’t sure from reading this if this was the hotel owners case or the state AG case. I’m pretty sure at this point that standing has been resolved. I was thinking about that. Remember the Supreme Court decision that says that just because a law isn’t being enforced doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist? The lawyers should say that Congress hasn’t approved it. Just because they’re ignoring it doesn’t mean it doesn’t apply. It requires Congressional approval.

Yes. It’s pretty much impossible to recover the airplane. On takeoff you have a high angle of attack and the reversal will stall one wing almost instantly. Even if you cut the engine immediately you are already spinning vertically toward the ground.

You are just dead at that point. Rest in Peace to all involved. I feel horrible for the crewmembers and their families.

I heard a radio commercial a bit ago that gave an example of how that goes over in Trump Republican times.

It was for a Ohio State Rep candidate that was saying her opponent only declared to be a Republican in 2016 and has “dark money” from liberals behind her making her a fake Republican that is trying to sneak in and upset a REAL CONSERVATIVE…with anti-abortion credentials and 2nd Amendment stances.

Yep, that is exactly what would happen trying to help out the moderate Republicans.

That’s from the beginning of the article. And that is not what any sane person would consider to be part of a cheerleader’s job description.

Oh, and as I recently discovered, none other than Chief Justice Marshall wrote (in the murder trial of Aaron Burr) that the president would be subject to a subpoena to testify in court.

I’m really not sure if a state could bring criminal charges against a sitting president. That’s a whole new level of constitutional crisis. My gut would say that they could not (imagine some wingnut state AG bringing an indictment against a Democratic president, even on the flimsiest of grounds).

As for the presidential perp walk, what I imagine is Trump pacing the halls of the Capitol as the Senate votes on impeachment. And once that 67th vote for removal comes, him trying to return to the White House and the Secret Service stopping him and saying, “I’m sorry, sir, but you’re not authorized to be here.”

I’m really not sure if a state could bring criminal charges against a sitting president. That’s a whole new level of constitutional crisis. My gut would say that they could not (imagine some wingnut state AG bringing an indictment against a Democratic president, even on the flimsiest of grounds).

As for the presidential perp walk, what I imagine is Trump pacing the halls of the Capitol as the Senate votes on impeachment. And once that 67th vote for removal comes, him trying to return to the White House and the Secret Service stopping him and saying, “I’m sorry, sir, but you’re not authorized to be here.”

Realistically, there has to be a way to bring criminal charges vs. a sitting president. For example, suppose Trump really were to shoot someone on 5th avenue in broad daylight in front of hundreds of witnesses tomorrow. Saying that Congress would have to act to remove Trump from office via impeachment before anything else could be done is not an acceptable answer.

Edited to add: I agree that there’s a real concern with letting the states have too much power here, since state-level wingnuts would like nothing better than to arrest a (D) president for ‘presidenting while being a Democrat’. There’s just no good answers to the problems posed by an absolutely lawless US president.

Creating rules based on the most extreme circumstances rarely turns out well.

That said, I think one way your scenario could play out would be the 25th Amendment. That would at least temporarily remove Trump from office. In that scenario, he could stand trial, and if convicted the Congress could act to remove him from office. But Section 4 of the 25th Amendment has never been invoked, so it’s all uncharted waters and would still be a constitutional crisis.

My lady friend’s daughter tried out to be a Denver Broncos cheerleader and was cut only in the final round. She had years of dance training. She also had a masters degree in computer science from MIT. Her husband was a graduate of the same institution. They were making mucho dinero and had a beautiful young child. As a sixteen year old, he struck me as someone with a good heart who would be the Dem nominee if things were different, as a seventeen year old, he was someone who I thought still had a good heart but wouldn’t be a good President, and by the time I was eighteen, yeah this guy is a bit of a crank. The DoP wasn’t it though. It was stuff like ignoring humanitarian atrocities by people we rightfully were critical of but I didn’t feel and still don’t feel we should be at war with.

Imma stay on the sidelines a bit on this one, because I got singed back in the Al Franken debates in a similar conversation.

But, I have heard men described as sex objects by women. It is not as wide and as openly used, but it is there.

Also, I think the wording/term is used now for anyone that is considered extremely attractive, wrong or right.

I think part of the problem is the word ‘object’, you think of ‘object’ as in a thing, as opposed to object as in ‘the object of my affection’. And yeah, Tom Selleck was a sex object during his modeling and early acting days.

But my point is even a porn star like Stormy Daniels - and I don’t think porn stars of any gender can reasonably NOT be called sex objects - does not give up her right to deny consent, whether to sex, or appearing nude, or whatever.

IMO, the problem really isn’t the use of the term sex object. It’s the idea that because part of their job is to be physically attractive women that they give up the right to deny consent to being ogled during a photo shoot, or served up as escorts.

I am chuffed to announce that everyone survived and each and every wildlife was safely relocated back outdoors.

Their youngest son was the one who brought the bird outside. He’s in a little trouble from his mom, and I’d imagine his dad’s a little upset for having to climb that tree.

He is the kinda guy who is used to others making his problems “go away.” He figured that winning the election meant he could just add the DOJ to his list of “fixers.” Which is why he couldn’t believe Comey would not pledge loyalty to him, why Jefferson Beauregard would recuse himself rather than snuffing out any talk about Russia, and why Rosenstein would appoint Mueller when presented with the opportunity to put an end to any new investigations.
