Trump Follows Giuliani’s Stunning Admission That He Lied About Stormy Daniels With an Even More Damaging Twitter Rant

Politics • Views: 31,018

OK, folks. Coffee break’s over. Back on your heads.

Today our so-called president followed up Rudy Giuliani’s stunning admission that Trump outright lied when he said he knew nothing about the Stormy Daniels case (he knew plenty) and hadn’t authorized any payments (he did) with an even more damaging series of tweets trying to talk his way out of what was very clearly a violation of campaign finance laws at the very least.

And a violation of all standards of simple human decency as well.

“Played no roll.” LOL.

Notice that he forgot how to thread his tweets again.

It would be the height of poetic justice if Trump’s affair with a porn star is what starts the dominos tumbling. The sleaziness. The sleaziness.

Those tweets are HILARIOUSLY not written by Trump.

Also, investigators had been wiretapping Michael Cohen’s phones for weeks before the raid into his office, home, and hotel. And they have at least one call between the White House and Cohen.

All irony records are being shattered today as serial adulterer, crotch grabber, and corrupt foreign agent Donald Trump presides over National Prayer Day.

This is my offering for the Commander ‘n Thief and his media shills:

You cannot be a party to a valid contract that you didn’t sign and knew nothing about. Valid contracts also require “consideration” between the two contracting parties, so if Daniels wasn’t paid through a specific overt act by Trump intended to compensate her for signing the NDA then there is no contract. These are basic, widely known required elements of contract law. Every small business owner who has ever hired a contractor knows this, ever photographer who has ever crafted a model release knows this.

Saw your question earlier about Hewitt and how dumb he is…

For the record, I didn’t actually take Hewitt’s class, I took John Eastman’s class (Eastman is incredibly smart but also very wrong on a lot of social issues). Hewitt’s class was often referred to as “show prep” by my classmates who took it.

And as I’ve always said about Hewitt, he’s not dumb but he is a bit of a hack. Specifically, he’s one of those people who see politics as a game, and he roots for Team Republican, so he will forgive/explain away any mistake they make. He will also change his tune when the party goes a different direction. In 2008 he was Team Romney until McCain won, and then McCain was always his guy.

He’s also a fan of the Browns, so he’s spent his entire life talking himself into a questionable decision being a good idea.

“The president doesn’t have to have a justification to fire him.”

Here’s the thing, if the original answer (and then consistent) answer from the White House was “the president and the American people thank Director Comey for his years of service to this nation; however, the president believes it is in the best interest of the DOJ and the FBI for new leadership…” a lot of us would have been skeptical, but they wouldn’t have run headlong into a minefield.

From downthread, from a discussion about memes.

re: #622 I cannot.

Things like “All of them, Katie” are memes…I haven’t seen a shop for that. Memes are designed to get a certain relatively simple idea across easily and quickly, and to reinforce that idea in those who already have that idea.

They can be done in text, visual or audio or some combination.

I first heard the word “meme” from, believe it or not, Richard Dawkins. This was back in the late 1980s, way back before his head expanded. He presented this documentary, on BBC2’s “Horizon” science series, about evolutionary biology. I’m pretty sure this documentary is YouTube somewhere. This would be around the time of his book “The Blind Watchmaker”.

In one segment, he has a simple evolutionary model running on a computer- this being the UK in the late 80’s, it’s an Acorn BBC Master 128. After this, Dawkins points out, that, if you can demonstrate evolution in what we would call today a virtual environment, then evolution does not necessarily need to apply to purely physical attributes, it can also apply to abstract concepts, such as thoughts and ideas. He refer to these evolutionary traits as memes. (Dunno if he he came up with the word, but he was certainly using it like he owned it in his books of the time.)

So that’s how I understand the word: basically an idea or concept subject to evolutionary selection that manages to catch on. Doesn’t matter the format- it could be argued any religion or political stance is a meme.

Of course, the thing about memes as evolutionary traits is that most evolutionary traits are ephemeral in the long run. In terms of memes, “Maybe we should be nice to each other” seems to have held up pretty well. Not too sure, on the other hand, about Rick-Rolling.

Indeed, most of the memes you hear about don’t actually last even the short term. Which is exactly how you expect it to work in evolutionary terms. Hence I observe all those right-wing memes being subsumed into a cultural evolutionary process, and spat out not long afterwards, and I have to bite my lip when they go on about evolution being a myth.

Hence I observe all those right-wing memes being subsumed into a cultural evolutionary process, and spat out not long afterwards, and I have to bite my lip when they go on about evolution being a myth.

this is very good

i would add that memes used to evolve, er “organically” in that no one was trying to create one and have it catch fire

they were things that we became aware of as “existing”

now with tech, everyone is ‘creating” memes instantaneosly and non stop hoping for the “viral” catch on and win their 15 minutes

tech also allows the instantaneous passing around of the thing.

imo tech is either diluting or morphing the meaning of meme.

nailing together two ideas in photoshop doesnt necessariyl make a meme. it makes a meme-like thing. to be an actual meme, it would have to be passed around widely and demonstrate some staying power by withstanding a test of time

So Trump’s been lying to his outside counsel team the entire time and brought Rudy on to break the bad news to them. It’s dysfunctional fuckery all the way down.

[Embedded content]

There was reporting yesterday that Trump and Cohen won’t tell Trump’s legal team what they think/know is in the seized Cohen documents. That is, rightly, terrifying the lawyers because how the fuck are you supposed to litigate a case if you don’t know what the evidence is?

I am not at all surprised that nobody knew this until Rudy said it on TV. Nor am I shocked that Rudy is spouting off on live national television without the minimal forethought.

Flood was apparently hired as a White House lawyer, rather than a personal lawyer. So he’s client is more the office of the president than the president himself.

I’m still not sure why anyone would want to work for Trump at this point. Even if you’re doing so out of a sense of loyalty to the nation, you have to realize that the cancer affecting the body politic is emanating from the Oval Office.

They got former Dolphin possession receiver Jarvis Landry a month or so ago. Added to Josh Gordon, if he can keep himself out of trouble and on the field, they now have a pretty solid starting duo. If the risky choice of Florida receiver Antonio Callaway works out they may have gotten a steal there too.

Also, heard earlier today, they are “exploring” options for either reconfiguring existing stadium or looking to build another.

The lack of male spaces in our culture begins in the home, where a man is often forced to set up his “man cave” in the garage or the basement if he wants any space to himself in the home he owns and pays for.

This needs to be broken down, because it is some highly enriched retrograde derptitude.

First, there are not male spaces or female spaces in our culture, other than possibly bathrooms and locker rooms. There is only space, where we are all free to move about, if we so choose. That, after all, is what a free society looks like.

Second, nobody is forced to set up a man cave. Hell, many people don’t have the spare room/garage/basement to set up a man cave. And if someone chooses to set up a man cave in one of those rooms, it is, again, their choice. They are choosing to remove themselves from the shared spaces in the rest of the house. And let’s be clear when you choose to live with someone else, particularly a spouse, it is all shared space.

Third, it is quite presumptuous to think that only the man pays for the house. Beyond the fact that many/most women work outside the home; realistically, in this market you can’t buy a house without two incomes.

Fourth, I get that you sometimes need time/space to yourself. But if you need feel the need to constantly escape your family, might I suggest contacting a divorce attorney, because obviously being a husband isn’t quite working out for you.

Nashville police respond to report of shooting at mall

(CNN)Nashville police are responding to reports of a shooting at the Opry Mills shopping mall, law enforcement sources told CNN on Thursday.
One victim has been transported to Skyline Hospital in critical condition, according to tweets from the Nashville Fire Department.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tweeted that the agency is responding to the scene.

A little too close to home for me: my mom works for Marriott at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in the hotel’s commissary way at the opposite end of the property from the mall (probably about a half-mile away) and my brother was on his way to go get her from work when all of this was going down. Watching the local TV news video and from what my brother and mom were saying, the whole area, almost a couple of square miles enveloping the mall, all of the adjacent Gaylord Opryland Hotel property, plus five nearby schools, including two on my side of the river well away from the mall, was locked down tight and fast and still mostly is, even after Metro said they’ve got the suspect; my brother was able to get through the PD roadblocks to get her and one of her co-workers that needed a way out, because her own ride was stuck waiting for her kids at one of the nearby schools that were also locked-down during this.

I called this at the time. The claims appeared in RT and Sputnik well before Alex Jones and the Texas GOP picked them up. The following dog pile is where I get my often-questioned, but never refuted, idea that the Russians own the conspiracy industry, and have direct influence down to the state and local level. They have been cultivating both since at least as early as 2009 and the start of the Obama administration. Hayden’s assertion that this success encouraged the Russians to interfere in the electoral process is certainly interesting and matches up well with the events.
I believe that Mueller’s investigation is taking so long because it is much larger than commonly realized, though still well within his legal mandate. I would not be surprised if there are thousands of indictments before it is over.

On twitter today someone (Hoarse Whisperer? Caroline O?) mentioned that Giuliani’s purpose was to get out in front of the news and let Trump’s base know that the charges are serious. And that Trump’s ‘braintrust’ is planning on legal/political war.

I strongly suspect that DOJ was already well aware of the information released by Giuliani.

Two things that interest me are the time frame of the warfare with respect to the midterms. And whether this major swerve of Trump’s will shake off any of his base.

Yes, and I bet Rudy knows it too.

It seems Trump and Gang are selling a lot of scenarios to their ignorant base. We see how they buy everything as a legit explanation.

It will become gospel and then the base will raise hell when anything happens to Trump.

They hope to scream and act their way out of this mess by scaring and bullying Mueller and Democrats, and even any Republican that might consider action against Trump.

re: #194 JordanRules

The average hourly rate for an attorney in New York is about $775 an hour. Assuming Trump paid Cohen $460k total, less the settlement amount, that leaves $330k in legal fees. That works out to 425+ hours at $775/hour.

Cohen is a sole practitioner, so that means he would have had to log 425 hours by himself on the case at that rate. That would be 80 hours a week for 5 weeks. Even if Trump were his only client, and this was his only case, there’s no way that makes any kind of sense given the nature of the agreement.

Even if you put Cohen’s rate at $1500/hour, you’re still looking at over 200 hours on this settlement. And having read the settlement, that is not the sort of document that took 200 hours to draft.

“After the campaign is over, they set up a reimbursement, $35K a month, out of his personal family account,” Giuliani said, adding that over all, Cohen was paid $460,000 or $470,000 from Trump through the payments, including for “incidental expenses.”

i think ted’s mistaken in his interpretation
payments including for incidental.., not only for

that means some of that 460k was fees for professional services - ie income to cohen
did he report it and pay taxes?
was there paperwork supporting the payments? did cohen bill trump? did the trump disbursements have notations? ie how much was fees and how much expenses? if not, then it’s all fees
if there was documentation, then trump was assuming responsibility and ownership for the 130k

the money was disbursed to daniels before the election - did trump know about it?
if not, if cohen shielded him, then cohen had to report it as an in kind contribution
if trump knew, well then…..

and still i want to know how both the 130k deposit and the payment to daniels were reported on the books and tax returns of the delaware LLC

there are a myriad - ok maybe 10 ways to breach this thing

Twitter has recommended its 336 million users change their passwords.
The company announced on Thursday it discovered a bug that saved user passwords unprotected on an internal log.

Twitter said it has since fixed the issue. Although the company said there is no evidence passwords have been leaked or misused, it is urging its users to update their passwords.

“As a precaution, consider changing your password on all services where you’ve used this password,” the company tweeted.

And then I went on twitter and realized it might be the most difficult app on which to change a password. As in, I still haven’t figured out how to change my password.

I don’t care that Trump, prior to being president, had an affair (or more likely: multiple affairs). I don’t even necessarily care that he and the woman (ore more likely: women) signed an NDA.

I do care that said payments were not disclosed during campaign as in kind contributions. But on my outrage meter, “campaign finance violation to cover up affair” generates about a 0.05.

What I care about by several orders of magnitude is Trump’s apparent dealings with a foreign government to tilt the election in his favor. I care about Trump’s attempts to destroy norms and undermine institutions in order to hold onto power. Do. Not. Fck. With. The. Society.

Last week, you may recall, news broke that, back in April, the Speaker’s office ousted congressional chaplain Fr. Pat Conroy, S-freaking-J, for a prayer that was insufficiently grounded in the Gospel According to Art Laffer. Conroy resigned. On Thursday, he un-resigned, with a bang. From Politico:

While you never spoke with me in person, nor did you send me any correspondence, on Friday, April 13th, 2018, your Chief of Staff, Jonathan Burks, came to me and informed me that you were asking for my letter of resignation. I inquired as to whether or not it was “for cause,” and Mr. Burks mentioned dismissively something like “maybe it’s time that we had a Chaplain that wasn’t a Catholic.” He also mentioned my November prayer and an interview with the National Journal Daily.

He just called you out as a gutless weasel, Mister Speaker.

Recently, on April 27, you publicly indicated that my “pastoral services” to some Members were lacking and that I did not offer adequate “spiritual counseling” to others. This is not the reason that Mr. Burks gave me when asking for my “resignation.” In fact, no such criticism has ever been leveled against me during my tenure as House Chaplain.

He just called you out as a gutless liar, Mister Speaker.

Trump being heavily into prayer is indeed bullshit of the highest order, even from a Republican (i.e., professional bullshit producer).

Unless, of course, the prayer is written for Trump by a bootlicker and runs something like this:

Our Master who art in Trump Tower, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily abuse; and forgive us our trespasses for consideration, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us into temptation, and deliver us to evil.

So, here’s a question or two:

Who were Trump’s other lawyers, before he was sworn in?

And certainly Cohen couldn’t have been Trump’s first lawyer - Trump has been doing his gig for over 40 years. So, who were Trump’s previous lawyers?

I wonder what they have?

His follower are in denial, but if I were sitting on a jury and someone before me was a defendant who admitted to being guilty to a particular accusation and then I had to rule on a similar accusation, I’d definitely be swayed by the previous admittance that said accused did it more than once.

Scout probably knows all about this latest MLB import…
Japan Times: Shohei Ohtani’s MLB fireworks wow Japanese baseball world

The Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters were busy preparing to face the Chiba Lotte Marines on Saturday afternoon when the events happening at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, reached the visitors’ clubhouse at Zozo Marine Stadium in Chiba.

Shohei Ohtani, their former teammate who is in his first season in MLB, had just hit another home run for the Los Angeles Angels.

“I know, I just showed all the guys,” third baseman Brandon Laird said excitedly after finishing up in the batting cage.

In the dugout, reporters pulled out their phones to check for video of Ohtani’s fourth MLB homer. On Twitter, former Fighters pitcher Anthony Bass, now a Chicago Cub, was incredulous. “Ummmmm … . . how???” he tweeted over a clip of Ohtani turning on a 97-mph (156-kph) inside fastball from New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino.

Fighters pitcher Naoyuki Uwasawa was caught unaware.

“He hit one?” a surprised Uwasawa asked. “Wow, amazing.”

That’s pretty much been everybody else’s reaction, too.

What else is there to say about a player who can throw 101 mph (162.5 kph) on the mound, the fastest pitch by a starter in the majors this season, multiple times on Tuesday and then muscle out a big league fastball an estimated 410 feet (125 meters) on Friday?

Sea Mexican!  May 3, 2018 • 5:12:50pm

re: #198 KGxvi

A brain fart I just had …

If we assume that every settlement involves a $130k payout, that’s three settlements, and dividing the remaining by $775 (the usual rate), it works out to 90 hours of work total, or 30 hours per settlement. That’s a bit more reasonable.

Here’s something that needs to happen in the legal world: a class action suit seeking to invalidate every Trumpco NDA. All of them. In one shot. Basically on the grounds that Trump is such a piece of shit he can’t engage in a legally binding contract.

The “Ice Poseidon” channel, which has more than half a million YouTube subscribers, often live streams derogatory clickbait content aimed at an audience that often presents itself as “ironically” racist. The main figure associated with the channel, Paul Denino, said on a live stream yesterday that Gionet was “working with my manager now” and Denino’s manager Brent Kaskel said he had given Gionet production equipment.

*snip*

In their first collaborative stream, Denino and Gionet had tried to make money by putting a young woman in a straitjacket and taping over her mouth with the premise that they were trying to find out if “she has what it takes to be a livestreamer.” The stream ended in a screaming match.
