Oops! Rudy Giuliani Screwed Up, and Now He’s Being Sent Out to “Clarify” His “Views”

What a gang of malevolent yet incompetent clowns
Politics • Views: 31,008

In today’s episode of the Comedy of Villains, Rudy Giuliani has been sent on the media rounds today, to try to walk back the insanely damaging statements he made yesterday about Trump’s hush money payoff to porn star Stormy Daniels.

The story they agreed on is that Trump just found out about the payoff.

The excuse seems to be that Trump is a busy man, and wealthy, and he has little people who scurry around with satchels of cash to hand out to any porn stars he needs silenced. Kind of like remora attached to sharks.

But this is the part that elicited an audible guffaw from yours truly.

In a telephone interview with NBC News, Giuliani insisted he only shared details of the payment with Trump about a week ago.

“I don’t think the president realized he paid him (Cohen) back for that specific thing until we (his legal team) made him aware of the paperwork,” he said.

Giuliani said the president responded, “Oh my goodness, I guess that’s what it was for.”

I just keep imagining Trump saying, “Oh my goodness!” and cracking up.

And here’s another new statement from Repentant Rudy. Trump must have read him the riot act. Oh my goodness!

So Giuliani, who just got ‘hired,’ just informed Trump that another lawyer/un-lawyer/coffee lawyer paid off a porn star to the tune of $130k to keep her from telling about a tryst they didn’t actually have.

This is like the thinnest of wet tissue papers of plausibility. And it’s very windy.

Today, the Right-wing nut-job-o-sphere is going crazy about U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III.

The difference, though, is we have different rules for candidates for office for a reason. For one, things like this open candidates up to blackmail.

It sounds more to me like Avenatti is genuinely VERY pissed off. He’s been really serious and angry during his news show appearances since Rudy’s meltdown on Hannity. He’s sick of this shit.

Also, it’s a patently ridiculous lie. He and Melania hate each other and if Trump wasn’t a candidate he wouldn’t have given a fractional shit about sparing her the embarrassment.

That for sure was a Trump entry. He always has to pile on the little negatives when he is being negative about someone, just as he also over adds the superlatives when he is being positive, especially when talking about himself.

It’s clear why Trump brought Yuck Mouth on as a lawyer - they both have palmetto-sized bugs up their asses for Clinton and Comey.

I can imagine these two bitter old sons of bitches, sitting around and taking turns jacking up each other’s hatred.

It’s not the optimum environment for devising a level-headed legal strategy, to say the least.

That’s how it goes with regional items. They get talked up, then when they come to your region, it’s just a disappointment. It was the same with Coors beer.

The only time I can think of when it wasn’t a disappointment was Krispy Kreme. Dunkin Donuts is just meh.

And don’t get me started on In-n-Out

I think the hype over In-n-Out was misinterpreted by everywhere not-California. They don’t have “good” burgers. You can’t get “good” burgers at a fast food restaurant. Ever. No matter what anyone says.

But for fast food they are considered by many to be on the better side of the spectrum. As far as I know, nothing there is ever frozen. I’d take them over McDonalds, Jack in the Box, Burger King, Wendys, Carl’s Jr, etc. any day of the week, but I’m not going to pretend like it’s a good burger or drive out of my way to get it.

We also have a Papa Johns, Papa Murphy, 2 Domino’s, and a Subway. Other choices include a couple of Chinese and Filipino restaurants. Now that the cruise ships have stared arriving there’s a couple of seasonal taco trucks located near the cruise ship docks.

Not many choices for fast food take-out.

A new 2020 primary poll has some really bad news for Bernie Sanders

A fresh 2020 Democratic presidential primary poll released Wednesday shows Sen. Bernie Sanders in a distant third place among a large pack of potential Democratic nominees — a troubling sign for the Vermont independent, who is mulling whether to make another run for the White House.

A Suffolk University poll of New Hampshire Democratic primary voters found Sanders trailing Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Vice President Joe Biden in the New Hampshire Democratic primary. In the poll, Warren leads the pack with 26 percent, followed by Biden with 20 percent and Sanders a distant third with just 13 percent.

Perhaps I should say something positive about Lubbock.
They have a fantastic traditional, 100% authentic greasy burger joint called Pete’s Drive-in. In fact, there are several of them. They use the giant extra large buns, they cook on a solid grill, and they have a full menu of other old time favorites, like chicken fried steak and Frito pie. They do nothing to cater to yuppies or hipsters and the college crowd does not even know they exist. Having had cardiac issues, I could eat there only occasionally when I lived in Lubbock, but I go there every time I visit now.

Belafon  May 4, 2018 • 2:08:09pm

If you want to open a burger place, find the neighborhood in your town that has the most Texans, and open a Whataburger. We were at the one in Rockwall the other day, and were talking to a couple while waiting for our food. Her husband was from Nashville, and she’d been there for the last 8 years. When they came into Texas for some softball thing for their daughter, she had to stop at a Whataburger.

I find it interesting that both Whataburger, and Taco Bueno, which are well loved here in Texas, aren’t trying to grow super fast. They have places throughout the country (they’ve both spread across the south and up toward the north east) but they haven’t pushed to get everywhere as fast as they can.

Overexpansion is the kiss of death. We had a fish ‘n’ chips chain here in WA (mostly) that was just head and shoulders above all their competitors. (Never-frozen, Puget Sound fish, etc.) Then they decided to expand all over the U.S. west of the Mississippi. Of course, the quality went to hell, they immediately tanked, and they slowly went out of business even here. (A couple of owner-operated stores held on for a while.)

You can still get their tartar sauce and clam chowder in stores, and now I see on Yelp that they’re trying a comeback as takeout kiosks in a few AM/PM Mini-Marts, but I haven’t tried them for fear of being disappointed.

I think In-n-Out sucks. I have no idea why this is a thing. At all. Their burgers are not good in any way. And their fries are as good as their burgers (not at all).

Personally, when I am out west, the first thing I do is get a low-carb Carl’s Jr. burger. I love those. (And they are not the same as Hardees, even as they are owned by the same company.)

I haven’t tried 5 Guys. I think that’s on my list since they supposedly have good burgers and they do low-carb. And they are somewhat local. Win-Win.

I had to find a new taqueria when our facility moved from South City to Brisbane. South City has a lot larger Hispanic population, so there are at least 1/2 dozen taquerias just in the downtown area. Luckily, there’s ONE in Brisbane that’s not so bad.

They have a very different take on ‘taco’ from my South City favorite, though. Instead of meat, lettuce, and pico de gallo on the regular corn tortillas, this place uses the little tortillas, and top with onions, cilantro, and spicy salsa. And they really work the carnitas on the flat top - not just chopped, but almost shredded, and really crispy!

The problem is 3 tacos are barely a meal, and the idea of ordering 4 is just too much!

I suspect 2020 will play out a lot like “normal” election cycles. Come January 2019, a lot of Democrats will suddenly be spending time in New Hampshire and/or Iowa, and probably in Nevada. But the field will get winnowed down fairly quickly as it becomes more and more clear who is viable and who is not. I don’t think we’re going to see a 1992 style campaign where five different people win primaries, nor do I think we’ll see a 2000/2016 style coronation. I’d guess 2004, sort of in the middle of those examples, would be the most likely precedent.

If Bernie decides to run, the Russian bots will be out in full force supporting him, even more so than in 2016. It may depend on how much Putin wants him to disrupt the Democratic primaries.

Hopefully the experience of 2016 (and this year) will have voters more aware of meddling.

Or even better, hopefully Facebook and twitter will have died a painful death by then and social media will be pictures of kids and puppies again.

Tacos made with cilantro, onion and salsa are considered “authentic” street tacos around here. Finding one made with lettuce is usually only done by gringos.

Maybe, but when I go to the taqueria in South City, my gringo-ness makes me stand out like a sore thumb!

Besides, I though the ultimate gringo taco was a hard-shell with ground beef with McCormick Taco Seasoning, with grated cheddar cheese and Old El Paso “salsa’.

re: #304 freetoken

I have written this here before and will repeat it again: we here are a self-selected (except when Charles has to do banning) group of mostly older people who, even if we don’t have a lot of formal education, have learned through our lives quite a bit.

And we’re fairly literate.

But this is not true of the population in general.

Which is why our opinions here are often the minority compared to the greater population.

This is why I am very cautious about extrapolating my own conclusions, about this or that issue or person, to the population at large.

If Facebook has any value at all, it has shown me just how many of my relatives are latent (or out) bigots. Also, the plethora of Facebook groups dedicated to the most idiotic items is astounding.

The Trumpsters I know are all literate. Educated people are not exempt from racism or religious fanaticism or Netanyahu worship or Fox brainwashing.

If you are going to do in-n-out you nee to do it right…double double (or bigger) animal style and ask for fries well done. Way better than Carl’s Jr. (although their sliders were pretty legit). Five guys is prWeetty darn good and so is Fat Burger. That covers fast food.

If you want a really good burger and have access to a Lazy Dog Cafe, their black and blue burger is legit. Then there are the local places (near long beach CA) that are hidden gems too.

We got a double-double. Meh. Completely. What is animal style? Rare? I know we didn’t ask for that. I didn’t realize you could specify well done fries (the best way to eat fries…which I no longer eat).

I am in Michigan (ish) now. So my FF options are limited…few west coast chains here.

For sure! And yes life in Ireland especially Conneacht was tough but my third great grandfather was a free man. He was able to leave with his family to a better life. It annoys me so much when other Irish-Americans try to talk down to African-Americans like yourself by saying “Well the Irish slaves”(which is bullshit anyhow) or “My family”, no, we had it hard but we didn’t have generations of men, women, and children enslaved who had to worry about what would happen if we looked at someone wrong. And I wish that the former peasants of Europe had teamed up with the freemen to kick some serious ass.

re: #426 Hecuba’s daughter

Politifact (?) found her to be the most honest of the 2016 candidates and Trump the most dishonest, even more dishonest than Cruz. If the media hadn’t been relentless on the emails, and the GOP hadn’t fabricated the Benghazi inquisition, she would have won handily. If the MSM had done their job, we wouldn’t be facing this calamity.

That’s exactly what I mean. There’s a narrative that HRC is dishonest and not straight forward but not only is she more honest than Trump, she was more so than Bernie as well and she had a more comprehensive plan than Bernie. The sad irony about Hillary is that people like her more once she’s already in office and doing her job but they don’t like her as a candidate. She pointed out more than a few times that there were quite a few Republicans that praised her work in office but were too chicken shit to say it aloud because of the GOP base.

re: #226 Unshaken Defiance

Here’s the secret of why “reasonable” is so offensive to them.

Because part of their demimonde is the fantasy of being unreasonable and not just getting away with it, but being praised.

If you look at the stories that these people tell themselves about who they are and who they want to be, it’s always, always that their anger and violence is justified, and that “evil” and crime are things encoded in being not-like-them. Built into the competence fantasy—in which their violence is a sign of superiority of skill and preparation—is a moral fantasy in which their violence is always necessary and justified, and that it is weakness to doubt the application of lethal force. Consider all of those stories in which lack of mercy is a merit—every single version of “urban youth will riot, and then we’ll have to shoot them all.” The fantasy is to be heroes and get to kill—coincidentally, “anybody” tends to be people that are different, not your neighbor Bob—and still be axiomatically righteous…and have fun.

The flip side of their fantasies is the “that weak liberal would let his family get X because he’s too weak to kill” just-so stories. It’s a whole genre. Remember that one by Phil Robertson? I remember because halfway through his home-invasion rape-murder story he switches for the third-person “criminal” to the first person. Which isn’t a surprise. The story…the genre…exists to stimulate that sense of being morally superior and more puissant than the unarmed. The fictional guy watching his family get raped and his dick cut off exists so that Phil Robertson—or any other raconteur working in the same standard form—can feel superior to the straw man.

This is an enclosed cultural group that has established a canon, and in that canon their actions are a priori moral: belong and you’re the good guy. Their analysis of everything…crime, rights, moral implications of lethal force emanates from the base assumption that they can’t be wrong. It sells anger, smugness, and a chauvinistic distinction of the armed versus the inferior unarmed. Back to Phil Robertson’s story…or pretty much anything Ted Nugent says, or the flights of fancy by various Twitter warriors…the recurring theme is that you are better not just than the criminals, but than the people you are “protecting.”

How often do lizards encounter 101st Chairborne that are specifically posturing themselves to seem dangerous, or saying versions “I could kill you” or “I’m prepared to kill people”? How about versions of “You better be grateful that I’m prepared to shoot someone?” How often does the boast of competence include an implicit threat not just to wrong-doers, but to insufficiently compliant onlookers? Or, in the case of Ted Nugent—NRA board member—an explicit one?

What brings these people together is not responsible ownership of firearms or thoughtful discussion about self-defense and lethal force as acts within a societal frame. It’s a fantasy in which their violence is inherently ethical and heroic, and questioning that assumption is a kind of treachery. All flavors of “reasonable” includes standards that cockblock that unlimited power fantasy.

Which is why we’re now at a place where mass shootings are (1) government frame-ups, (2) all done by “liberals,” (3) the victims should have been armed, (4) any survivors that criticize the ubiquity of ARs can be hounded as traitors and as having no soul.

Cannot be wrong; can only be wronged.

Weber once characterized “monopoly of violence” as a feature of government: who gets to hurt and kill demonstrates who has power. Map that concept onto to the full picture of the NRA—whose violence it excuses, whose violence it condemns, what kinds of violence it overlooks (domestic violence and murder…which they did just today, by ignoring that most mass shootings are multiple domestic murders…not in “gun free zones”)—and a picture resolves.

…and it’s a picture we can recognize from history all to easily: what kinds of extralegal violence get a pass…what vigilantes and mobs are simply let slide? Who deserved to die and why? Who is guilty enough to be killed outright and what’s the system by which that determination is made?

Reasonable is their wolfsbane. Reasonable suggests a consistent standard when their stock and trade is an inconsistent, tribal standard. Reasonable suggests that their basic distinction…we are the heroes, the rest of you are either dupes or malevolent…is hollow.

One million Irish did die in the manufactured potato famine. The food was there but the British landowners exported it.

I’m aware of the history trust me. I’m merely saying what the Irish went through does not compare to slavery especially in the New World where Irish laborers like my third great grandfather and his sons and sons in law had the ability to move from place to place. There wasn’t sexual predation against the women too in nearly the same scale as there was among slave owners as well.

I find it interesting that both Whataburger, and Taco Bueno, which are well loved here in Texas, aren’t trying to grow super fast. They have places throughout the country (they’ve both spread across the south and up toward the north east) but they haven’t pushed to get everywhere as fast as they can.

When I lived in Baytown and Houston Texas Whataburger was one of my favorites. Fuddruckers was good too.

Yep exactly. They’re treated as if they’re the most corrupt politicians out there. Reagan’s administration was by far more corrupt than Bill’s yet that’s ignored. Bill’s opponents had sex scandals of their own. That too ignored. I didn’t like HRC at first but I have to tell you the more I learned, not only did I respect her more, the more I liked her because she’s put up with a lot of bullshit.

When the Irish came here, their lives became infinitely better than the slaves. However, back in Ireland, their condition was very dire. If the comparison is in their life here, there is no comparison — they were not slaves and had opportunities that were closed to African Americans.

That’s entirely my point. However, at least in Ireland, they did have the freedom to leave if they so chose. They didn’t risk death by fleeing the Atlantic. I’m not downplaying what happened in 19th century Ireland, I don’t like what happened in 19th century Ireland used to downplay what happened in the 19th century South.

I think it was this reinforced message Hillary lies and can’t be trusted. You know why I think that? Because that was me for a long time. Klys helped set me straight more than anyone when I tried just seeing her as an extension of Bill rather than her own woman.

I am still stymied as to what happened after her announcement. The Ready For Hillary peeps showed up everywhere, and they were young, enthusiastic and motivated. I manned the Ready For Hillary table at our 2014 state convention and had several hundred people sign up to work, mostly young/mostly women.

That’s the one I’ve seen slavery apologists make - that the Irish were treated as badly as or worse than blacks. This is based on a single misinterpreted throwaway line from some Jamaican governor of the 18th Century, IIRC.

Then the usual next step is to conflate slavery and indentured servitude, and then finish off by talking about black slaveowners.

The funny thing? What’s the name of the most famous fictional antebellum slaveowning family?

Yeah I really hated the narrative that it was old versus youth regarding her and Bernie. The funny thing for me is many pushing that were older themselves. You know me, I liked Bernie at first but he really soured on me by the Winter of 2016. My Fuddruckers story is of ACTIVISM. They had one horrible video game with a gun that you could shoot a deer—it was nauseatingly lifelike and the kids all gathered around it. I went on a crusade to get it removed from our local store and finally succeeded. They probably just moved it to another location, but it felt good to get it out of ours.
