I used to live maybe 250 meters from these apartments. Almost filled out an application when I move to Jacksonville. More than a few times I saw Cop cars lined up on multiple streets leading to the apartments preparing to raid the complex.
Hell, the summer 0f 2006 it was pretty regular to have police helicopters orbiting around the complex.
It improved quite a bit during the last few years I lived up the street from it.

I particularly like seeing Kevin Williamson whine about how his free speech is being violated with an op-ed in the New York Times and Washington Post. I seriously have thought about penning an anonymous or with a pen name op-ed on the merits of Stalinism and submitting it to Kev’s old haunt of the NR and then when they inevitably turn me down crying that my free speech was violated.

Great movie. Yes, the flying death balls are memorable. They speed around through the air, and when they spot a target they extrude little buzz-saw appendages and slam into the victim’s forehead with them, then a drill emerges, drills into the poor sap’s head and pumps out all their blood.

The NRA and most US gun nuts are very clearly on a path of ever-increasing radicalization. It is inevitable that getting the NFA of 1934 overturned by SCOTUS will openly become part of their agenda in due course. If/when they are significantly thwarted in their exercises of power, their violence will increase.

Even now, I think they basically view the Las Vegas shooter as some kind of hero. They pretend they want to be law abiding, but assert a constitutional right to have such an arsenal and to extensively fantasize about using it when “the shit hits the fan” without any concern for the fact that large scale indulgence in such malignant role-playing will lead to real-life incidents.

I mean it’s not Mel Brook’s best movie, but Mel Brooks, is like pizza, even when its not great, it’s still pretty good.

With the exception of the Spaceballs cartoon which was flat out horrible, that’s the equivalent of putting pineapple on pizza.

I’m hoping someone here has some ideas about questions designed to determine which political party someone favors.

My local Democratic party has an idea I like a lot: figure out which unaffiliated voters are dem-leaning and add them to our GOTV efforts. We already know about some of them (about 20% I think) but there are a lot of blanks.

So we would like to go ask them. But independents don’t want to be asked if they are dem-leaning. They get affronted and say they vote for the candidate, not the party. And we don’t want to be too confrontational either. A question about whether they favor a wall to keep out immigrants would probably work, but it would also cause unpleasant interactions. These are volunteers we asking to figure this out - they shouldn’t have to be yelled at unnecessarily.

So we would like to figure out some questions that are reasonably pleasant but pretty good at sorting out who will generally vote for Democrats. I feel like I have seen something like this before, but I am not finding it. Any ideas?

Perhaps neutrally worded questions on what role (if any) the government should have on various issues (health care, regulation of business, environmental protections, etc.), one question per issue. I.e., policy questions like the wall question but which may be less of an immediate argument starter.

Why not initiate a conversation to ask them their opinion on certain topics: let them talk instead of initially presenting your ideas. For example, ask them how they feel about health care and what changes, if any, are needed in the current system. Perhaps ask them about taxes — big corporations — outsourcing or offshoring work , but all in a neutral way.

My local Democratic party has an idea I like a lot: figure out which unaffiliated voters are dem-leaning and add them to our GOTV efforts. We already know about some of them (about 20% I think) but there are a lot of blanks.

So we would like to go ask them. But independents don’t want to be asked if they are dem-leaning. They get affronted and say they vote for the candidate, not the party. And we don’t want to be too confrontational either. A question about whether they favor a wall to keep out immigrants would probably work, but it would also cause unpleasant interactions. These are volunteers we asking to figure this out - they shouldn’t have to be yelled at unnecessarily.

So we would like to figure out some questions that are reasonably pleasant but pretty good at sorting out who will generally vote for Democrats. I feel like I have seen something like this before, but I am not finding it. Any ideas?

Use questions that have the same trigger words that you would see in a Frank Luntz panel. They don’t have to be loaded questions, or even make a lot of sense, just use the right trigger words.

A question like, ‘do you support reduced health care costs and greater coverage at the price of an individual mandate to purchase health insurance’ or ‘do you favour expanded voting rights and hours’ will meet with broad support from everyone. But using specific words, like ‘do you support the public health insurance scheme broadly outlined by Barack Obama during his presidency’ will trigger people who belong to the cult. Similarly, using words like ‘Benghazi’, ‘Nancy Pelosi’, ‘standing for the anthem’ and worst of all, ‘Hillary Clinton’ will cause cult members to have immediate and noticeable reactions. The rest of the question can be something they have previously supported, or even be a random string of nonsense words, but using the words they have been trained to react to in a Pavlovian style will identify them.

This is not snark. This is precisely how you identify people who belong to the cult. This is what I do in my daily life in conversations and with potential social contacts.

The poll was conducted April 3-5. It surveyed 800 likely primary voters, evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. Sarpolus said the responses were weighted according to counties that tend to have heavier turnout for one party or the other, as well as gender, age and race.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. Interpreting science is messy because humans are messy. I agree. The idea that the scientific method (capital T, S and M, from the video), is incorrect because we are messy humans - I’m not buying that so much. There were interesting points about how societal influences could impact the result of an experiment’s conclusion. But nothing in this interview (for me) supported the idea that the scientific method is flawed.

The concept of falsifiability (sp?) is neat. Disproving a hypothesis is sometimes as valuable as proving one.

The concept of falsifiability (sp?) is neat. Disproving a hypothesis is sometimes as valuable as proving one.

In traditional (e.g. Popper) ideas of science, disproving a hypothesis is exactly what science does. “Proving” is often not attempted as it can not be tractable.

Still, that video is about broadening the understanding of science. The topic of Carroll’s paper came about because of the problem of the multiverse (namely, whether such a proposition is “scientific” or not) in cosmology.

I think the presenter of that video is a bit too lazy and careless in his words. Still, the idea that is important is that science proper cannot be put into a neat Popperian box.

I for one find little reason to believe in the multiverse. I’ve posted quite a bit a few weeks ago about problems in cosmology, how many people don’t really grasp the idea of the observable universe, and how that is problematic.

Put simply - it is unfounded (because it is arbitrary) to think that the universe is limited to our observable (in space-time) horizon. However, it does not follow that we must then embrace the multiverse as such idea is often described in the popular media.

So the multiverse problem led Carroll to ponder more broadly about what science is today, what it really means for something to be true in science.

This I’ll bring up again if I get around to writing one of my morning missives, on some new social-science research on “fake news”.

As someone pointed out here a few days ago, the idea of running on “they’re running for their wealthy benefactors and not you” was one of the best-received potential messages for a candidate. He is running specifically on that.

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Democrat Gary Trauner met with Goshen County residents on Thursday at the Java Jar during a stop in his campaign for the U.S. Senate.

He is seeking to replace incumbent Republican Senator John Barrasso for the seat. Barrasso has held the seat since 2007. He will also be running against independent candidate David Dodson.

Trauner said he is running in the hopes of breaking up the deadlock of modern politics in Washington D.C. The state’s current congressmen, he said, focus on helping themselves and their supporters to the detriment and against the wishes of their constituents.

“They’re being supported by Wall Street,” he said. “They’re getting their money from corporate entities and that’s what they support.”

He pointed out policies that give lower tax rates to New York businessmen and that deny Medicare the ability to negotiate drug prices.

“I would argue that literally nobody in Wyoming (supports them),” he said, “except for our federal delegation.”

He also pointed to the 2017 tax bill, which he said gave temporary tax cuts to the middle class while giving permanent cuts to the wealthy.

We were on the south edge of totality. Nevertheless, we had over a thousand people from out of town in the park across the street to observe the eclipse.

We could have gone up to Alliance, but it was a cluster … Carhenge was overwhelmed, and on top of that someone called in a threat just before the eclipse.

One of the members of our village board was tasked with going up and down US-385 after the eclipse between our county seat and Alliance with gasoline cans for stranded motorists. The traffic jam out of Alliance lasted well into the evening.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. Interpreting science is messy because humans are messy. I agree. The idea that the scientific method (capital T, S and M, from the video), is incorrect because we are messy humans - I’m not buying that so much. There were interesting points about how societal influences could impact the result of an experiment’s conclusion. But nothing in this interview (for me) supported the idea that the scientific method is flawed.

There’s a famous null result from physics that is a good example: the Michelson-Morley experiment of 1887. Michelson and Morley were convinced that the speed of light as measured from the moving Earth would be different depending on the relative direction of the light beam to the Earth’s orbital motion. They designed an ingenious apparatus to measure minute differences in the speed of light (the interferometer), and after many attempts found NO differences at all. Big puzzler.

Then Einstein in 1905 publishes his first relativity paper, which in part says, “Oh the speed of light is invariant. Everybody no matter how fast they are moving — or in what direction — will measure the same speed of light.” So, the M-M experiment verified Einstein’s postulate years before Einstein published it!

Interestingly, Einstein claimed he was not aware of the Michelson-Morley experiment before he published in 1905. It was only after that colleagues told him about it.

Earlier I said my cuz lives in Waimea. Wrong. It’s Kamuela, but still far from the volcano.

This cousin I may have mentioned before. She was the “mystery cousin” who disappeared from view for close to 30 years. Two of us managed to track her down finally only a few months ago. Phone calls were unsuccessful — she lives in a senior citizens community and the office people were not being especially helpful. My cousin B wrote her a letter, which was delivered, and about two months later, she called him up.

I’ve talked to her twice in the last week for about 90 minutes each. She’s 73 but still as sharp as a tack, and as talkative and opinionated as I remember.

Say what you will about those “people search” websites, sometimes they can be used for good as well as evil.

Delusion-prone individuals may be more likely to accept even delusion-irrelevant implausible ideas because of their tendency to engage in less analytic and actively open-minded thinking. Consistent with this suggestion, two online studies with over 1000 participants demonstrated that delusion-prone individuals display an increased belief in fake news, which often features implausible content, and that this increase was partially explained by cognitive style. Exploratory analyses showed that dogmatic individuals and religious fundamentalists were also more likely to believe fake news, and that these relationships were fully explained by cognitive style. Our findings suggest that existing interventions on analytic and actively open-minded thinking might be leveraged to help prevent the deleterious effects of belief in fake news.

Then yesterday (4th) someone who follows the issues of fake news blogged about it:

People who are delusional, dogmatic, or religious fundamentalists are more likely to believe fake news

It seems as if this paper could cause a lot of people to…get very angry very fast. I asked Rand [one of the authors] to go over the biggest caveats with me — what he thinks people should definitely keep in mind before drawing big conclusions. Here’s his email back to me:

(i) Correlation vs causation — We definitely can’t (and aren’t trying) to say that being delusional, dogmatic, or a religious fundamentalist causes you to believe fake news. What we definitely are saying is that these things tend to co-occur. In terms of what causes what, we can’t say anything definitive. What we do is provide circumstantial (correlational mediation) evidence that supports a story whereby being less open-minded/reflective leads simultaneously to all of these things — delusionality, believing fake news, being dogmatic, and being a religious fundamentalist — and explains some/all of why they are correlated with each other.

(ii) The size of the correlations isn’t huge. That is, it’s not like “Oh, you scored highly on the delusionality scale, so that means you’ll believe all fake news headlines” or “oh, you are a religious fundamentalist, so you’ll believe all fake news headlines.” But at the same time, the correlations aren’t nothing.

The blogger, to make the point that the effects (of the impact of such things as a tendency towards delusional thinking making one accept “fake news”), includes the following diagrams from the paper (which you can download at the SSRN site):

The point being that there is a statistically significant correlation but the differences between people are indeed small.

However…

I propose that there exists some deeply missed points by simply looking at correlation statistics (in this case the researchers used Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, which may be all they could use, but it simply is a measure of whether a monotonic relationship exists and I propose that the human qualities being explored will not necessarily form monotonic relationships with each other.)

Namely, that the results of the research don’t really tell us what is not obvious, and that other researchers have already (or are in the process of exploring) the extent of delusional thinking on accepting whether a story is true or not.

One can read in the methods section how the researchers did a trial run, then two runs with different groups of people. However, the first thought that crossed my mind is if the people being tested were also being trained while undergoing multiple tests. I think there is a real problem of feedbacks popping up here. That is, by giving multiple tests, a subject may after taking the first test be modified just slightly when they take the next test, etc.

Anyway, it’s not a peer reviewed paper and I wonder how much of it will stand up to peer review.

And, I think there are some more direct approaches to understanding why some people buy into false stories more so than other people. Namely, to monitor a subject and actively given them information and see how they change over time.

Still, my biggest concern about these kind of studies, which trumpet the subject of “fake news”, is that the academics are unwittingly reifying the likes of Trump. Cries of “FAKE NEWS!” were not so common before Trump made that phrase mainstream.

By repeating the idea that “fake news” is a real thing, rather than calling false stories as simply that - false information - the need for people to selectively hear what they want to will lead to a vicious cycle.

This is the problem of headlines - if that is all people read, that is all they will know. And, since people read the headline first, their immediate impression based only on the headline can influence how they interpret the body of the story, should they choose to read the body.

These problems about empirically studying humans are not new to social scientists of course. Libraries are filled with discussions of the problems of evaluating people.

So I caution, if over the next few days this study (or others like it which are being undertaken) get put into the headlines of major outlets for the lay person, there is a great likelihood that all the nuances will be lost.

After looking at how the election propaganda affected my own Facebook stream, it is pretty clear that the entire process is one of manipulated reification. People were told what they wanted to believe, and that is why they believed it.

This is something the above study doesn’t really include, because for all the tests that were done, none were really focused on human desires.

Michelson and Morley were “old school” physicists, who accepted the prevailing model that light was a wave and the Earth was an object, with both moving through the “aether,” an invisible, massless medium that existed apparently only to carry light waves. Their experiment’s null result confounded them, because it seemed to suggest that there was no aether and/or the speed of light was not affected by the motion of its source or the observer.

Einstein realized that, first, there was no aether, and second, as light was massless, it did not need to obey traditional laws of physical motion. He started with the postulate that the speed of light was invariant, and his conclusions about special relativity followed logically from there.

The aether was physicists’ version of phlogiston.

Yes. Young’s double-slit experiment suggested light was a wave. It was assumed that all waves needed a medium to carry them. So, the aether was proposed as that medium. As postulated, it was presumed to have no mass. It was undetectable, and essentially incorporeal — or so tenuous as to be close to incorporeal.

Looking back, it was a weird idea, since science is all about detecting and measuring stuff. But to keep classical physics intact as an overarching theory, the aether was a necessary addition.

There’s a famous null result from physics that is a good example: the Michelson-Morley experiment of 1887. Ok since we’re in a long thread now, I’ll share some OT things….
Last weekend the Husband and I went to see the Foo Fighters and it was so fun!! Great show and yes, I hurt myself dancing like a fool for 3 hours.

Then on Tuesday ,The Kid went to see Stone Sour. He ended up meeting Corey Taylor before the show and Corey took the time to sign The Kid’s vinyl and CD covers and take a photo with him. Now, Corey didn’t have to do that, there were 100 dollar VIP tickets for people to do that and he could have just blew the kid off but he didn’t. This meant so much to my son, Slipknot and Stone Sour have got him through some shit in his life. Corey Taylor is my new secret boyfriend, don’t tell anyone….

apropos of the top of this thread and this entry, on my run this morning i started playing around with scenarios re the stormy daniels payment and how this all could have worked for trump to be “innocent”.

i concocted one scenario - totally possible and also highly improbable that actually insulates trump from the problems with the FEC only.

say cohen actually set up the nda and paid the money all on his own. neither trump nor anyone in the campaign were aware. (i said possible.) cohen is screwed with the fec, his legal license, and the nda is n/a so trump loses on that score. cohen is probably also screwed with regards to various federal and state income tax laws

say later that cohen asks trump for money, doesnt explain, doesnt segregate fees from reimbursed costs on any billing documentation (could happen) and trump doesnt ask, just pays.

so trump and the campaign dont find out until recently whats really been going on. immediately they could/should amend their fec filings because, gosh darn, they just found out themselves!

bizarre, yet possible.

Any other scenario and it’s an organized, planned conspiracy and cover up. they are all screwed. and i cant come up with anything where cohen isnt toast

of course i dont believe any of it
and that penny is gonna drop anyway because its way bigger than just this issue

That’s why they’re trying to play both sides of the fence. Cohen’s assertion he paid the money without Trump’s knowledge, then when it was noted that might be considered an in-kind campaign contribution, the story shifted to “Trump repaid him,” (which doessn’t get Cohen out of the problem).

Now they’re trying to assert everyone does that. Giuliani’s trip to television didn’t help them very much.

Good. She just had Richard Painter on, the ex-Republican that has recently changed from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party and is running for Al Franken’s old Senate seat.

She asked him why he changed parties and more or less hinted that Democrats would be suspicious of someone who has been a lifelong Republican. He said it was because the Republicans are not the Republicans he grew up with and have been changing for the past 20 years. He feels his positions are now more Democratic than Republican, especially Trump Republicans.

He also said Minnesota folks should have had an opportunity to have a say in Franken’s future rather than him having to resign under pressure. He felt that was unfair to Franken and Minnesota.

But what makes this entire episode even more bizarre is that while all this is going on, the Trump administration has put its full weight behind promoting sexual abstinence — not just for teens, but also for adults — as the only acceptable choice for the most people, who presumably don’t have the money to cover up their private indiscretions with large payouts.

On Wednesday, three organizations — the ACLU, Planned Parenthood and the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association — joined together to sue the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Population Affairs for drastically rewriting its Title X funding priorities to grant awards to programs that favor abstinence programs over contraception provision. Title X was explicitly created in 1970 to help low-income women obtain contraception, but the Trump administration’s new guidelines indicate a preference for programs that discouragecontraception use in favor of advising women to abstain from sex when not seeking pregnancy.

I’ve been reading my old philosophy teacher’s memoir of teaching. He was and is quite liberal but he writes of having supported the war in Iraq due to the post 9/11 trauma many had. I didn’t have it but I sympathize with those who did and got led the wrong way by the administration.

Because Nathan Montgomery had the temerity to retweet Ed Stetzer’s (a bigwig in the evangelical world and holder of the Billy Graham chair at Wheaton College) statement that Patterson should resign.

Patterson is scheduled to give the “convention sermon” at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas in five weeks. I believe it was Stetzer who said that Patterson would receive a standing ovation in Dallas and Stetzer thought it would be a bad signal to women. (Ya think, Ed?)

Personally, I’m hoping for Patterson’s latter years to be dominated by the suit called Rollins v. Second Baptist Church, et. al. Rollins is a guy who claims he was sexually assaulted by Patterson’s good, good buddy Judge Pressler numerous times. I will confess that I thought it sounded weird and I thought it was kind of a crazy lawsuit when I first heard of it except that he had real attorneys backing him up.

Last month, Rollins’ attorneys came forward with sworn statements from two men, one from ~40 years ago and one from more recently, indicating Pressler’s inappropriate activities towards them. And yesterday, a federal judge sent the case back to state court, not finding a federal question. I suspect Second Baptist Church (and the Southern Baptist Convention, also a defendant) were looking for a finding of “ecclesiastical abstention doctrine,” i.e., that this was a church matter that should not be in a court. The judge probably rolled his eyes as he drop-kicked the case, finding it’s a tort case with churches and parachurch organizations as defendants (along with Pressler and Patterson).

I think you have a habit of getting way too pedantic over words. I share your skepticism with Painter becoming Senator but I think you have to realize that we all come to our destination at different times. Like yourself, I can’t imagine myself having been anything other than a liberal but you know what, I have a lot of friends here who started out on a different path and they do feel the party left them. You’re right. Those you speak of did engage in that but we’re human beings. Even my grandfather, the man who influenced my Dad and by extension my liberalism was born into a Republican family in Pittsburgh.

Note that when good churchgoing people hear this over and over and over again in the rambling nonsense that a lot of the men occupying pulpits call sermons, it gets hammered into their heads that women should not be leaders. And that, as much as anything else, told the people of the religious right that they should not vote for Clinton.

I was on a site called Moon of Alabama, writing critically of the mullahs who were upset about the Mohammed cartoon kerfuffle and they told me to “go post at Little Green Footballs”. Must’ve been around 2007.

It was rather conservative and anti-Islam at the time, but they did not tolerate creationists or science deniers and the tone was generally civil.

Basically…impressions that evoke strong emotions are True, in the epistemological sense, so everything, including policy, becomes about what looks good on a very shallow level.

You can see the changes from an NRA that was once fine with registering guns and the NFA, to a pro Union plank in Eisenhowers day. It’s a long road that may have been pointed in the wrong direction but most unfortunately has narrowed to billionaire white men only.

Even when I thought I was pro-life, I did hate the anti abortion movement. I never thought it was proper to go to the clinics to shout at people. I did think that maybe the counseling was okay but I realize now that a pregnancy is a very personal issue to a woman and ultimately it should be her choice. My sister in law loves her daughter, my niece very much but she told me that the pregnancy experience made her firmly pro-choice. I still remember a childhood friend saying “Just give up the kid for adoption” as if pregnancy is that simple.

Well, I can’t say for sure. I view “the party left me” statement with some scepticism, particularly since it has been racist, misogynistic, and hateful toward the poor all my life.

He has been railing against Trump since he announced his run. He has been critical of Republicans for allowing Trump to do what he is doing and for actually working with him. All while being a Republican. He seemed to want to fix his party from within.

It was just recently that he grew so tired of them that he seems to have had a come-to-Jesus-moment and realized there is no fixing them.

So he simply announced he has switched parties. He didn’t do it with any ‘look at me’ fanfare or anything.

After seeing him speak on all of this for the past two years at least, it actually surprised me he announced the change, but then when you think of it, it really wasn’t a surprise.

I understand being suspicious, but I also understand that we may be seeing more of this happening.

If it fixes this country’s politics, I am in for their changing. It might be the only way to either fix the GOP or have it die.

I’m with you. My foremost feelings about the guy is that he’s coming at it as a carpetbagger. If Trump weren’t the president, he wouldn’t be running as a democrat, he probably wouldn’t be running at all, and he’d still be a lifelong republican. When Trump is no longer president, he’ll probably go back to being a republican again. He’s not jumping in at the base level, he’s going after the top spot in MN DFL politics when Tina Smith has been doing a great job. He strikes me as just another entitled rich white guy and in today’s political climate I trust him about as far as I can throw him.

That said, I have voted for republicans in the past who were actually in the republican party. Dave Durrenberger was great on health care policy, and Arne Carlson was just a good guy to have as MN governor. They did good work while remaining republican.

Let Painter OWN being a lifelong republican and try to change his OWN party from inside. Isn’t that what so many readers here are wanting to happen? A reasonable republican party?

Not sure. There is speculation that all the lava in the vent is flowing out down in Leilani Estates, as it’s lower elevation. But they’re not sure of that yet.

I did some research and it seems there were some unsavory background details involving Sherrod receiving certain payments from the Dept of Agriculture for clients that she represented that neither Vilsack nor Obama wanted to have aired, so they were forced to let it ride.

Backer Spielvogel Bates—when I freelanced for them it was during the “Best Burger in the Business” campaign with the obnoxious British guy and the ads where Dave Thomas was the spokesperson.

The reality is that throwing off my 9/11 trauma was for me a return to the same political views I’d always had.

9/11 turned a lot of people totally against Islam.

There is no question that Fundamentalist Islam is a threat to the freedoms that we have struggled to attain but we have to be careful not to equate it with the whole of the religion.

it does not help that we see nations such as Saudi Arabia as “moderate” Muslims because they are our allies, even though they actively fund and support Wahabism and were home to Bin Laden and 15 of the 19 9/11 assailants

Meanwhile, we worked to topple secular regimes in Iran, Afghanistan Iraq and Libya. The latter were not particularly savory, but were nonetheless no fans of moments like the Taliban, Isis or Al-Qaeda.

Thanks! I was wondering. Now that I think about it, I am now thinking Wendy’s was not one of SBC’s clients.

I used to do production work in the summers while going to CCAD back in ‘75 and ‘76. Shelly Berman Communications was in an old house on Oak Street right next to I-71 downtown. Since a lot of us art students lived on the near East side, it was easy to work there.

At that time Berman had The Limited, Ohio National Bank, Continental Office Furniture and some others.

One of the Art Directors was a guy by the name of Bob Brucken. What I remember now is Brucken moved to another agency in Columbus that had Wendy’s in like ‘77, ‘78 or so. I and a buddy from CCAD had a small design partnership and we did some layouts and paste-ups of national Wendy’s ads back then.

I still remember going over hundreds of slides of a woman biting into a Wendy’s double with everything…custom-kitchen photo prepared burger. We were looking for that just right shot. Took all damn day.

That all gave me a full understanding of what big agency work was going to be like. It made me stay away from big agencies!

I think Shelly had Wendy’s right before BSB—it was always kind of confusing, because they usually had a national agency and a local one. BSB’s office was on 161 in Dublin, right near the Wendy’s offices (hence the reason you could only bring Wendy’s into the office as corporate peeps were always dropping by to stick their noses in.

Now you’ve forced me to find my portfolio and pull out some of the Wendy’s stuff I worked on—tray liners for SuperBar, when they added pasta and burritos—that didn’t last long; Crispier Fries; and a calendar with ideas for going to Wendy’s every day. I mostly worked on radio and TV stuff—do remember production with Dave Thomas was painful—he was a really nice guy, but difficult to direct on camera.

Memories—misty watercolor memories…hey, everyone has moved upstairs, but we can reminisce here…
